Welcome to WORDTheatre Weekly: The Short Story
Podcast where great authors and actors meet. I’m your host, Cedering Fox, WORDTheatre’s Founder & Artistic Director.
We are here with another story from Growing Pains, last month's NYC event back in May. J.K. Simmons, who has become one of Brian Doyle’s biggest fans, gave an excellent performance of his beautiful essay, Joyas Voladoras. Although Brian is no longer with us, his son, Liam, was able to attend the event. We are so lucky to know his wonderful family, and to continue to celebrate Brian’s work among them.
Brian is another author we found in the Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses anthology. We highly recommend purchasing The Pushcart Book of Twenty-First Century Poetry and Prose, which showcases some of the best literary work that has come out in the past twenty-five years. You can purchase this book, or any other titles written by authors featured on this podcast, through bookshop.org/wordtheatre and you’ll be helping two nonprofits.
Before we get started, please note that WORDTheatre holds the copyright to these recordings and no portion of anything you hear on WORDTheatre Weekly, our short story podcast, may be reproduced without permission.
And now, here is J.K. Simmons performing “Joyas Voladoras” by Brian Doyle.
SIMMONS PERFORMS THE PIECE.
You’ve just heard J.K. Simmons perform “Joyas Voladoras” written by Brian Doyle.
