Mekesia Brown: Hello and welcome to PNC
Tech Beat, where we bring you interesting

technological news occurrences, not
usually covered in all the other outlets.

We also cover an apple
and a meta occasionally.

Of course, anything we find exciting,
we're happy to share with our listeners.

First up, we have some news from ShopRite.

ShopRite's AI powered scan as you
shop shopping cart is a surprise

for the lucky grocery shoppers who
get to use them at select stores.

They're described as super efficient
and also makes grocery shopping much

easier for introverts who don't like
the social interaction at checkouts.

However, a recent Drexel University
study found that shoppers are

still more loyal to human checkout
experiences, so markets beware.

Next up we have some news
about robots in New York City.

Subways.

The K five robot leased from
California Tech Company Nights.

Scope has completed its pilot tour
of the Times Square train station.

However, we can't help but think
that the attention could have been

better focused on lessening bias
and facial recognition software.

Boston Dynamics Digi Dog had a New
York City lease that was canceled in

2021, but it's still in our memories,
especially since it was deployed

in some neighborhood incidents.

Recently we learned about some egg on
the face of the British Museum, at least

for lovers of African diasporic justice.

The Benin bronzes, the Rosetta
Stone, and hopefully other works

have been scanned into the electronic
realm by the art collective lutie.

Their digital repatriation utilizes
Web3 technology to educate the world and

empower victim countries of these thefts.

Ludis not the first to do it,
but they're one of the greats

grabbing lots of media attention
and creating great conversations.

The US Navy's marine mammal program
is teaching dolphins and sea lions

through video games to attach lines
to objects on the ocean floor.

One of the sea lions spike plays games
repeatedly and does a happy dance when it

completes a level Spike, a true Navy seal.

Finally, we have some news
from the world of unions.

You may remember back in 2021 when
Google formed the Alphabet Trade Union.

Well, Grindr has followed suit
this month, voting in the majority

to form Grindr, workers United.

Both were and are supported
by the communications workers

of a America Go Unions.
