Shalom Aleichem, dear listeners. Welcome to our daily Tanya study. Today, we are delving into Tanya, Likutei Amarim, chapter 25.
Within this chapter, the Alter Rebbe beautifully illustrates the constant struggle between the animalistic soul, our natural, instinctive desires, and the G-dly soul, our divine spark that seeks to connect with Hashem. This struggle is not foreign, but rather, it is an everyday experience that we all face.
The Rebbe explains that our G-dly soul is like a small city, with two kings vying for control: the animalistic soul and the G-dly soul. Each wants to direct the city's inhabitants according to their will. This 'city' represents our body and faculties, which can be employed either for the pursuit of the physical or the spiritual.
The animalistic soul, originating from the heart's left side, pushes us towards worldly pleasures, while the G-dly soul, originating from the heart's right side, yearns to ascend and reunite with its source, Hashem.
But here's the comforting message: the G-dly soul is inherently stronger. Why? Because it is a part of Hashem and therefore, eternal. So, even when we feel overwhelmed by our instincts and desires, remember, we carry within us a divine strength that can overcome any challenge.
So, dear friends, as we go about our daily lives, let's remember this constant struggle within us. But let's not be disheartened. Rather, let's tap into the strength of our G-dly soul, striving to align our actions, speech, and thoughts with the divine will, making our small city a dwelling place for Hashem.
May we all succeed in this mission, with the coming of Moshiach speedily in our days.
