Your limiting beliefs are not just in your mind. They are not just excuses or things that you have to push through or something that you do wrong. Your limiting beliefs really are stored in your whole body. And I wanna talk about this today as I've been working with limiting beliefs for about, I don't know, seven, eight, ten years now. And I'm starting to see more and more through those sessions that I do with myself and with my clients how layered this work is and how much we have to look at the whole of you as a full tapestry of layers and parts of you that hold limiting beliefs and not just a part of you that is limiting beliefs and a part of you that should just push through and be productive.
Relinde:Or a part of you that really, you know, does things kind of wrong or poorly and a part of you that needs to be tough on it to be like mind over matter, you know? So I really want to, with so much empathy and with so much love, look at with you at this today. Where do those beliefs live? How do you find them? And how can you shift them just by bringing in more care and more compassion and more empathy to your self and to your tapestry of self?
Relinde:So I don't know if you have heard of internal family systems. This podcast is not just about that. But I've experienced that work quite profoundly in a training that I did. And I'm reading also the book. And what is really nice, what I really like that in the first chapter of the book that is written, that's called No Bad Parts, is that he talks about that we have kind of been raised by this idea of two minds.
Relinde:Right? Or this subconscious that one soul is like animalistic desires almost and wants things. And then we have the rational, the civilized mind that needs to put things in order and rule over over that mind. And limiting beliefs could be like these nasty things just in the subconscious mind that are coming up and that are sabotaging your success. And you are manifesting your failure, like whatever.
Relinde:This this kind of language. And what he says is he really works, you know, his internal family systems is about that we all have internal parts as a family system and that these parts hold beliefs. But also title of his book, no bad parts. So we have no part in us. That is the bad one or that we have to press down.
Relinde:Actually, like press suppress. That's the word that I was looking for. Suppress or override. Overriding or suppressing can look so subtle. It can look so successful.
Relinde:It can be something that people advocate. It's like, just don't listen to it and push through. Or the other side, like spiritual bypassing, it's like, oh, just be love and light. Don't be angry. Just only like love and light and everything is always okay.
Relinde:And both of these suppress parts and voices of you that also hold beliefs. And why am I saying all this? Because when you look at your whole self and this way as in a way as, okay, I am a layered, multifaceted human being. I'm going to have different parts of me that even believe different things. I'm going to have different voices inside of me and they all have a role to play.
Relinde:If they are in, if the beliefs are empowering, if the parts feel seen, if you are in harmony, if the trauma is gone, let's say, then all of them would work together really nicely. And you could always show up from a very, I would say, whole way. Like you're feeling whole, you're feeling present. And you can really come from a place where everything in you is empowered. That doesn't mean you don't get angry or sad or that you don't have all the emotions.
Relinde:It just means that there's no nothing is checking out or having a, I would say, a reaction or a trigger or a response that isn't serving the whole of you. Now and that is what we're looking for when we wanna shift limiting beliefs. So if you don't know, I work on a very deep level with belief work with all my clients. I call my work embodied vision. And in embodied vision, I have different layers, the belief work, the energy work and the embodiment work.
Relinde:And they are all coming together, but they're all almost like a different entry point. And today I really wanted to look at the beliefs, how they show up in your body, because they do. Because even if we rationally know something, but we don't have the energetic and somatic shift in the body, the beliefs still might come back and we're actually suppressing. So when we listen to the parts of us, the tapestry of us that makes us, and we can do that by entering, by being aware, by being conscious of the body, we can encourage these disempowered limiting parts and beliefs to let go of what they're doing because they're doing something to protect you and to show up in a more empowering, coherent, holistic, heal whole way. So how do you do that?
Relinde:One of the things is to regularly during your day get your attention to your body. With body, you know, body is often something that we create an image of and that we then have to fit into. Or even if you say, okay, I'm doing embodiment work. I'm doing CrossFit. I mean, I don't mind CrossFit.
Relinde:I think it's really fun. But it usually doesn't go into the deeper layers and tapestry of the body. So when I talk about embodiment work, you don't have to really do anything. You have to almost stop going out and projecting yourself on yourself, but you have to start sensing inwards. So sensing inwards can simply be, and it can be easier to close your eyes.
Relinde:Because when you close your eyes anytime that you do this, it's going to be easier to go inwards because you take out the information that you're getting in from the outside world where your energy or your attention is going. You go inward, and then when you go inward, you can sense in your body like which part is fully present, for example, which part is fully here. Maybe there's even parts that you can't sense so well. So something different to know that you have a shoulder than to have the feeling sense of how your shoulder is doing right now. Like the feeling sense of where that shoulder is in space right now.
Relinde:It's something different to know that you have a heart and then to say like, I come from my heart, but to really sense your heart, your energetic heart, your physical heart, the beating of your heart. And I actually really like the heart as a place inwards in the body. So if you're listening right now, you are not driving or you're not doing, you could go with me and just lay your hands on your heart and really meet it and just be aware of that beating of the heart. So this is a first beautiful first step to go from being out there in the world to really sensing, from having your attention outwards to really sensing inwards. And I think a simple thing like tuning into the heartbeat that's always happening, that we usually don't pay attention to, that we don't have to do anything for that is so magical.
Relinde:And to just feel your own heart beating. And for some people, this might even already call up some resistance. The thinking mind might go take you away and do to do list. And that is because can be confronting to tune in. And when you tune in in that way, just being with your heart and just feeling the beating and you're landing in your body, You might want to keep your hands there.
Relinde:You take them away and then you allow yourself to really sense your whole body and just feel like make a mental map of where the whole body is in space right now. How does it feel to be you right now? And is there any part in you that feels more tensed or that feels less present, harder to sense. And then just bring your awareness there. It's very powerful.
Relinde:So just go there with your awareness. If you have children you could imagine like a small child that is sitting in a corner maybe back towards you and is just going there and being with it. Not forcing it. So if you're sensing that part of your body and just being and bringing your attention to it, First of all, describe what is the feeling in it. And it can be like it feels numb or it feels tensed, brittle, it feels soft or guarded.
Relinde:What are the sensations, the words that you that come up with that sensation of the area that you're going to? And then ask, what is this part of me believing right now? So if you are sensing into your part and then has a certain what is it believing? What is it doing? What is it protecting you from?
Relinde:If it is tensed, what is that function? Like, why is it tensed? What is it protecting? What is it working hard for? Because it is.
Relinde:And with so much love, just listen to it and just be present within, holding in in love and in awareness and in curiosity and care. And you might even feel that just seeing it and hearing it, we didn't do anything else, changes that part. So maybe there's an increase in somehow inflow. There's an increase in energy flow, in blood flow, in oxygen to that part. And it might change the way it feels.
Relinde:Just realizing, ah, that's what it believes. That's what it's doing. And just let it know that you are here and that it is safe. And allow yourself to see what it what that part would be if it wouldn't believe that limiting belief. For example, if you go in, I had this with my shoulder, I went into my shoulder, like really brought my attention there, asked it how it is doing.
Relinde:Felt it was a little stressed, intense. And I asked, what is the belief there? And the belief was I must work harder, must work harder. And I was like, oh, thank you. Yeah, actually, that muscle is working overtime.
Relinde:You can work less and it's okay. But thank you for doing your best and thank you for trying to protect me. And I felt it melt and you might feel that melting. Just let that melting feeling go through your body and it might even bring up some emotion or other feelings. And if you feel any emotion, like if you want to cry or laugh, Let that flow.
Relinde:And just let that feeling of melting move through the whole body. Until you gently come back. And to come back let's place hands on the belly just centering your energy there. Bringing yourself back. And this little practice can allow you to sense into the body what is going on and see if any body part is having any beliefs of its own.
Relinde:And by just allowing yourself to see that and by allowing that part to imagine what it would be if it would believe something else. So for example, my shoulder believes it had to work really hard. And I said, actually, you're working too hard. Like you can do less. It's safe to let go.
Relinde:It's okay for you to let go. And the moment that you allow yourself to do that and you allow your body bar to do that, what happens then? This really tunes into this whole tapestry of you that is constantly moving where there is so much wisdom. And again, if you come with curiosity and compassion and with care and you listen to it as if you would listen to a small child and really try to make it feel comfortable without it overriding, like really honoring what it's doing, You might find that these limiting beliefs are shifting instantly in that moment and that when your shoulder stops believing that it has to work really hard, maybe the rest of you also can let go a little bit more. Maybe your posture change, your energy changes.
Relinde:You can allow more support. You are more present. So this is just such a beautiful and simple way for you to tap in, reconnect, honor you, and then from then move into the rest of your day. And when you do this, often you become more and more aware of the signs your body is giving you. You become more and more aware of how you and this is very personal how you can communicate it.
Relinde:And when life gets crazy and when things get, you know, you feel like you're off track, you're like anywhere But with yourself, there's just one question to ask. And that question is: How do I get back? What is my pathway to getting back to this? And one of these things might become this little practice to close your eyes, sense into the body, ask how is it to be me today? Track any area that wants your attention, that feels more tense, more numb, that doesn't feel as great as the others, and that might be different every day, and then communicate with it.
Relinde:Describe and see it for where it is right now. Ask it what it's believing and then allow it to see another reality. Allow it to see that it doesn't have to believe that or to work so hard or to protect you from anything right now in that way. And that practice can be a really beautiful way to answer to the question: how do I get back? How do I get back when I'm stressed, when I'm stressed about my business, about clients, about money, about myself, about anything personal?
Relinde:How do I get back? And this is why I love, love, love somatic work because we don't have to imagine it. We don't have to make it up. We can't argue if it is real. You are here.
Relinde:Your heart is beating. Get back to something that is real right now. And that brings you back into this present moment, and that brings you back into sensing you. Now when you practice alone, you can sense you and be out there in the world. You could be in front of 10,000 people and still be with you, not lose you in the moment.
Relinde:Because you practice those two things being a reality always: you with you, the whole multifaceted tapestry of you, and anything that you need to do, anything that you put out there. Like I am right now really into my body, sensing it while I am recording this podcast. And that is the place where you can always come from, where you will feel confident, where you will very naturally, authentically confident because it's not even about I'm powerful, you know, it's just I'm here. I'm here. This is me and I'm fully present.
Relinde:And from that place, can teach, you can write, you can create, you can sleep, you can be, you can relate to others, you can create real connections, you can do sales calls, you can do all the things from that place. So I hope this practice helps you. I love that you were here today with me doing this and I'm wishing you a beautiful rest of your day.
