Amira Warren-Yearby: This Minnesota organization used legacy funds to bring happiness to seniors across Minnesota.
Teri Deaver: She was clapping and she was so incredibly excited!
Warren-Yearby: That's Teri Deaver, Managing Director of Alive & Kickin. Terry is describing the impact their ensemble had on a 98-year-old retirement home resident- who told her seniors often feel without a sense of purpose.
Deaver: she said to me how important it was that we were there's a lot of people have a really hard time getting out of bed in the morning

Warren-Yearby: Alive & Kickin is a senior rock ensemble whose mission is to give voice to elders and older adults.
Deaver: We've got people who are using walkers and in wheelchairs and people who are just bringing themselves to the stage.
Warren-Yearby: the ensemble performs all around Minnesota and hosts a free show monthly - operating support from the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund, helps Alive & Kickin to carry out a legacy.
Deaver: pushing against stereotypes, thinking about seniors and their capabilities and their life experiences and bringing them together to sing music across genres, across decades.
