Good morning and welcome. Today’s Torah portion teaches us about the visit of three angels to Abraham, who bear the joyous news that Sarah will have a child. Yet, when Sarah hears this, she laughs and denies it out of fear. Hashem challenges her, emphasizing the importance of honesty. The conversation transitions to the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah, cities ripe for destruction due to their wickedness. Here, we see Abraham’s incredible kindness as he negotiates with Hashem, pleading for the innocent. He begins with fifty righteous individuals, gradually lowering the number. Each time, Hashem agrees not to destroy the cities if the righteous can be found. This dialogue illustrates Abraham's unwavering commitment to justice and mercy. In the end, however, they cannot find even ten righteous souls, highlighting the depths of the cities' depravity. Abraham's efforts remind us of our responsibility to advocate for goodness and compassion. As we reflect, let us carry forward the legacy of kindness and justice.
