The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear President Donald Trump’s appeal in the E. Jean Carroll case, leaving in place a ruling that found him civilly liable for sexually abusing the writer and awarded her $5 million. Carroll accused Trump of assaulting her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in Manhattan in 1995 or 1996. Trump denied the allegation, saying Carroll was “trying to sell a new book” and that it “should be sold in the fiction section.” A 2023 jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse, though not for rape. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals later upheld that verdict, writing, “Mr. Trump has not demonstrated that the district court erred,” and that he failed to justify a new trial. Meanwhile, Trump’s Justice Department has opened a separate investigation tied to funding for Carroll’s legal expenses.

An Egyptian court has delayed the trial of Saeid Mansour Abdulraziq, a Christian convert accused of terrorism-related offenses after seeking official recognition of his faith change from Islam to Christianity. Abdulraziq, baptized into the Russian Orthodox Church in 2016, has been held since his July 2025 arrest, facing charges including joining a banned terrorist organization, contempt for Islam, and inciting unrest. A Cairo State Security Court was expected to hear prosecution witnesses on June 15, but instead postponed the case until Sept. 6. His lawyer, Saeid Fayez, called witness questioning “one of the most critical phases of a criminal trial” and said the defense is pursuing all legal safeguards. Christian Solidarity Worldwide’s Mervyn Thomas said Abdulraziq “committed no crime” and is effectively being prosecuted for exercising “his right to change religion.”

The Presbyterian Church (USA), the nation’s largest Presbyterian denomination, has reported another year of decline, losing 26,845 members and 128 congregations in 2025, bringing total membership to 1,019,003. A new statistical summary released ahead of the 227th General Assembly called it the denomination’s “slowest rate in a decade,” with membership down 2.6%, compared with an average annual decline of 4.6% over the past 10 years. The report also highlights an aging church: 60% of members are over 55, 35% are 71 or older, and just 4% are 18 or younger. PCUSA has now fallen from more than 2.5 million members in 2000 to just over 1 million. The Rev. Tim Cargal said, “Net losses do not tell the whole story,” while former Stated Clerk Gradye Parsons urged greater focus on “the Great Commission” and the “Spiritual But Not Religious.”

Minneapolis has officially repealed a 38-year AIDS-era ban on adult bathhouses and sex venues after Mayor Jacob Frey signed the measure as part of a broader “Pride in Policy” package. Frey declared on X, “Minneapolis stands with our LGBTQIA+ neighbors — we always will,” saying he was proud to sign the Bathhouse Repeal Ordinance. The City Council approved the move 9 to 2, with one abstention. Supporters, including Councilmember Jason Chavez, argued the old law was rooted in stigma, with Chavez calling the venues “places of refuge” and saying the repeal clears the way for “a proper public health and zoning framework.” Councilmember Robin Wonsley also backed the change, while opponent Elizabeth Shaffer questioned priorities, saying, “I don’t think this is a top priority for expanding city services.”

A growing number of churches and Bible platforms are distancing themselves from The Passion Translation, or TPT, as fresh scrutiny surrounds lead translator Brian Simmons. The controversy intensified after apologist Mike Winger and the YouTube channel Minor Prophets highlighted allegations of plagiarism, inflated credentials and questionable translation methods. Winger said, “Top scholars from a variety of Christian backgrounds unanimously say this is not a reliable Bible translation.” Bethel Church in Redding has reportedly stopped selling its special edition, and Life Bible, with about 1.5 million subscribers, has removed TPT from its app. In a notable reversal, pastor Damon Thompson withdrew his endorsement, saying, “Credentials have been misrepresented, and source material has been used without attribution,” adding, “My entire ministry has been built on a pursuit of both Spirit and Truth.”

In Texas, a controversy is growing after Arlington Independent School District announced Rylee Russell-Bruton as assistant principal at Joey Rodriguez Junior High. The district praised Russell-Bruton’s “rich background in student support, social studies education, and campus culture development,” but reports soon surfaced linking Russell-Bruton to drag performances under the name “Fauxbia.” State Board of Education member Brandon Hall is now calling for an investigation, writing, “Children are worth protecting. It’s time to stand up.” A 2019 Voyage Dallas interview with a performer believed to be Russell-Bruton described drag as “the expression of gender” and said, “nothing on this planet makes me feel more proud to be a woman than when I am in drag.” Arlington ISD had not publicly responded, and Russell-Bruton was not listed on the school’s staff directory.

In Los Angeles, public school teachers are no longer required to explicitly “affirm” the gender identity of LGBTQ+ students as part of mandatory district training, after legal pressure from the conservative Christian group Liberty Counsel. The Los Angeles Unified School District changed its questionnaire from requiring teachers to say, “I am aware that LAUSD policy requires me to affirm and respect the identities of all students,” to a narrower acknowledgment of district nondiscrimination policies. Liberty Counsel founder Mat Staver called it “the right thing,” adding, “Title VII ensures that people cannot be forced to choose between their faith and their livelihood.” The group said Christian educators objected on religious grounds and warned the previous language may have violated federal civil rights law. One unnamed sixth-grade teacher said, “I feared losing my job,” calling the policy change “a victory for religious liberty.”
