Hello and welcome to PNC Tech Beat, where we bring you interesting technological news occurrences, not usually covered in all the other outlets. We also cover an apple and a meta occasionally. Of course, anything we find exciting, we're happy to share with our listeners.
First up, we have the Skeletonics exoskeleton suit wowing viewers and media outlets alike, like Insider, SupercarBlondie, and Make Media. The 10 ft. tall, 90 pound, fully mechanical exoskeleton suit was created by a group of Okinawa National College of Technology Japanese students in 2010 and its evolution is something to behold. Lucky attendees of the 2014 Tokyo Maker Faire stepped into the suit and gave it a ride (well, a step or two). Click the links in the show notes to see for yourself.
Pivoting to Maker Faire news, the 2024 Maker Faire will be held in the Bay Area where their original 2006 event took place. The tech enthusiast and STEAM education playground is on October 18th to 20th of 2024 at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Innovators meet and change maker history here, like Bruce Shapiro’s launch of the Eggbot 2.0 in 2010 with Oskay and Edman of Evil Mad Science Labs. Or the many products sold on Maker Shed that showed makers how their creations filled the needs of their customers.
Even though the Bay Area faire is the featured event there are dozens of faires around the world. Be sure to visit one and take the opportunity to see the future of 3D printing, and robotics like the Skeletonics projects.
Next up, we have Anthony O’Neal falling victim to his Facebook account being taken over maliciously by an unknown party. They stole $40,000. Viewers shared in the chat the influencers who were victims or almost fell victim to their accounts being hacked.
Technological breakthroughs can fill in gaps in human awareness and improve our justice system in the process. For example, engineers at JusticeText Inc. are working on their JusticeText product that creates transparency and thorough fact-finding for criminal defense attorneys with audio and video transcription AI software. The Irvine, California software company has a target base of individuals in need of strong defensive measures against false accusations of police misconduct and endangering themselves and/or the public. JusticeText transcribes and annotates hours of footage in a matter of minutes, in 10 languages.
Finally, there was a CES 2024 unveiling of a very cool product coming from NWM. The NTT Sonority headphones bring listeners back into the world without pulling them away from the audio. With high-quality headphones you usually have to choose between hearing nothing (including possible dangers) but your media OR experiencing a part media/part environment miserable experience. NTT Sonority gives you an amazing experience of clearly hearing everything with the use of personalized sound zone audio technology as well as altering the enclosure design around the ears.
