And I'm so sad. Like I feel like not only because we go to Florida in the winter so it's not really about the summer, I mean the weather anymore.

Yeah but it's the flowers and it's the greenness and it's all the sand it's the beautiful skies in the summertime. It looks different.

Well, it's also just the fact everybody else is kind of on a summer vacation mentality. So everyone's just like happy and out and about. Like it's less about the weather and more about like the activities you do in the summer with your friends on the weekends and people are just in good spirits and I don't want that to end.

Well, everything has to end but we go on to another season so that'll be fine. Let's talk about what we're gonna talk about today, is all the wonderful things that we did this summer.

What were some of your highlights? I didn't really have

any highlights. Don't think everything was sort of very even this summer. We did a lot of going to people's homes and we did some barbecues and you know it was really nothing eventful which I like actually. Think that was super special.

I was producing this episode with my team they were like I bet Grandma's just gonna be like didn't do much, I went to some barbecues.

That's That's what you always said. It's true. I really didn't do anything. I didn't do any traveling. I didn't do very much.

You know, sometimes I go to theater or something special that's wonderful, but I really didn't. Was very low keyed this summer and enjoyed it thoroughly. Here's like some

Sydney Silberman talked to us about fashion. We had Henry Tisch who talked to us about Broadway and the Tonys. We had Elan from Love Island who I got to talk to last week. So it was definitely a lot of interesting conversations. We did our family dinner or excuse my

Which everybody seemed to enjoy, so I'm glad everyone had fun.

And if you haven't listened or watched that, that's where you're gonna meet Poppy, my mom, my dad, and the family. Part of the family. Part of the family. So that was definitely a very fun episode to do this summer. We did our taxi photo shoot.

Right. That was fun. That was, we were seem to be all over the Upper East Side. So that was a lot of fun.

We launched our merch, like our baseball hats, which are available on Amazon in that taxi shoot. We went to a diner. We did all these fun photos around it. So definitely loved sporting the merch this summer. I also went on some trips.

I went to Boston for a wedding. I went to LA to see Zach, and that's always fun because you're going to the beach and you're trying different restaurants and had some great meetings out there. So I feel like it was

amazing? But also, like, uneventful at the same time. Right. Do you have any Labor Day parties this weekend?

Speaker 4: 06:12

Actually, I don't have any don't have any parties this weekend. I'm going to someone's home for lunch. It's should be coming. Poppy is going.

How's Poppy at parties? Do you guys stick together in all your conversations or you kind of split off?

Speaker 4: 06:24

No. We never sit together at parties. I mean, we're all old married couples or married So for a very long everybody sort of they always mix up the couples, which is fun. You get a little different bit of a conversation.

Do you consider your friends like your couple friends, is it your friends or is it Poppy's friends or No. Is it your joint

Speaker 4: 06:43

mostly at this point they're all our friends. We don't really have because this is just a long time standing. These are people we've known for many many years. We know their children, their we grandchildren, so everybody sort of knows each other.

Yeah, was thinking of your friends and I feel like all your friends and their husbands are very similar to one another. Well, white people end up being together.

I mean, you have common interests. It's usually it was around golf for a long time or tennis. Now it's around bridge and activities that

But that doesn't mean you're the same kind of person. Like I don't think we're the

same kind, but you you have common interests, so you have commonality and things to talk about.

I'm wondering if I just don't know them enough then because I feel like everyone's so similar. Do you feel like my friends are all the same?

Speaker 4: 07:28

No. But I know some of your friends very well. The other friends friends I don't know. I guess. And they're probably not all the same, but you know, they sort of look like the same.

Mhmm. But no, I I think people tend to gravitate to to similar types. Why is it suddenly an airport here? No. You know what?

I don't know what's coming in here, but alright. Just keep going, Kim. Don't worry about it. We're outside with nature.

the fall? Well, I'm really not excited about anything. I I'm I'm looking forward to each season as it comes. You know, as you get older, things go by very quickly. So I like to savor every moment.

I don't want it to rush by. So I'm gonna take in Labor Day, enjoy it, and then we'll go on to the next thing. Actually, I'm doing some cataract surgery for all those out there who have done that, our older fans. If you have any advice, please text or email.

I mean, that's the thing, like with elective surgery, it's more of a like mental conversation, but I feel like if you have to do something, you have to

I guess you might be starting to think about going to Palm Beach again, though, because that's in a few months.

Well, I'm not really rushing to go to Palm Beach. I mean, that comes back in November. So we have the whole fall to go through and a million outfits to talk about and all our other conversations that we might think of for the fall events.

It is crazy though. It'll be my fifth season since COVID, like snow That's true.

Speaker 4: 09:39

What happened? It goes so quickly.

I talk about it like a TV show, but season one, season two, so different than season five.

happened. Yeah. So, you know, we'll see, and we'll we'll talk about it when we get there, I guess. Yeah. Now it's like focusing on the end of summer and I'm excited for this weekend.

I mean, we're doing some outfits for what I have going on this weekend.

Well, you have things going on and we have the Hampton Classic out here and I think you're gonna go there at least once. Which is a for those who don't know, the Hampton Classic is one of the big horse events out here at the end of August where people show and do jumping. And and it's quite quite fun for those who ride. I I'm not a rider anymore. I used to love to go, but the horses are beautiful and the kids are wonderful who are competing and some end up even, you know, trying out for the Olympics eventually.

They're they're the best riders in the country that come up here. So it's it's a very fun event to go to if you have the opportunity to be able to go this year. It coincides with the tennis. So the traffic gets even worse if that's at all possible. But that's the other thing that we could talk about, Kim, today.

I did watch the tennis last night, and Medvedev had a complete meltdown the first night of the open. And it'll be interesting to see if he gets fined heavily because he broke his racket.

He was he was you know, was one of our great players at one point, not our player, but he played in the open. So anyway, so that was really something to see. And they kept I was watching Patrick MacIromow talk about it yesterday on ESPN and it was really it's it's sad

I thought it was something else.

No. That's his this is the younger one. Oh, really? Yes.

John. Yeah. But they were both very good. John was the one of the great tennis players and Patrick was good too. Got it.

But he does the the broadcasting now for some of it. I'm sure Patrick will come in on the the final week. But it it that's not the issue. The point is you feel sorry when somebody is so upset emotionally, at a loss. And, you know, it doesn't show well to the young people who are watching these as idols in the sport.

So I hope he gets a grip on himself and he gets the proper help. Okay, let's move

And, like, obviously, we like some of her songs, and, like, she's obviously, like, a successful one. Like, no one's doubting that. I'm just not like, oh my gosh. I have to analyze

everything that 12 years old either.

No. But, like, other peep like, older people like her. But, anyway, the ring looks beautiful and the engagement with tons of flowers and everything looked beautiful. And I'm sure

they will be very happy as a couple hopefully.

Okay let's move on to the Grandma Report. The article this week is a Vox article and it's titled The Exhausting Summer of Nothing 2025. That sounds like my summer. Same and I wonder if this is something I guess they're saying across everyone because they're saying despite last past summer is being defined by cultural themes like barb and heimer or hot girl summer or a brat summer. This summer didn't have any identity is what they're saying or shared enthusiasm.

Boring summer, but good. You know, and I don't know why there wasn't a pop culture moment that really stuck out. They said what the things that did stick out are things that like people ironically love to hate like a la boo boo.

Oh yes that's true and I love those things.

But it's an eye rolling thing it's not like oh why everyone came together and they loved this thing and it represented

the same don't know what don't if you don't follow TikTok, most people talk most people don't know what it is anyway. It's a cute little stuffed animal that people put on their purses. And I believe it was invented. No. Not everyone.

And that you put it on your on your bags, and it's fun. And then they dress them up. It's like a I've it's it's it's a happening for the moment.

When you were younger, just like Yeah. Throughout your life, do you feel like there were things that people rally around? Like, what?

What were those little those No. Not not if fad.

Well, what were you gonna say?

Oh, I was gonna say those other little stuffed animals.

Beanie babies. The beanie babies were a big fad. No. There's fads. But I'm saying are there things that you typically feel represent your summer?

Not really because I think what represented, excuse me, our summer was putting on a bathing suit. So everybody wanted to always look sort of good right before summer and And slimmed we were always wearing, you know, I could always look back at my albums, the polka dot bikini was really started in the late fifties and I had one.

So getting a summer ready body. Exactly.

Speaker 4: 14:46

I think everybody sort of it, in May, started making sure they were lifting weights or doing a little bit of extra that's true.

Speaker 3: 14:53

Think I haven't followed it ever, but I know that Well, you

didn't need to, but a lot of people I never had to worry about it either. But people who wanted to really look fit, you know, they always think about it right before summer.

Speaker 3: 15:06

I also feel like what's an exciting summer is to me isn't what's going on in pop culture it's usually what's going on in my own life selfishly but it's like everybody

I mean you know you read about pop culture and you read about these stars and in all deference to them I think they're wonderful, but most of it's phony baloney anyway. So we end up vicariously looking at them and thinking, maybe we could have that kind of engagement or that kind of ring, but in reality we can't.

So let's say you personally got engaged this summer like that would probably be defining summer moment for you. Oh of course!

Speaker 4: 15:39

Or if you're having a baby this would be a defining moment or if you are getting married or anything.

Speaker 3: 15:45

Yeah but I don't feel like there was anything like for most people I've said because I was talking to my friends about this and everyone was like yeah I feel like nothing really happened.

Alright well maybe that's good. Yeah. I like that. Yeah. I like that.

That's true. The only thing I could think about also that people kind of rallied around was the cold play situation. Oh right.

Speaker 4: 16:02

But again it's something not a good thing.

No. Well, was a silly thing. And of course it was picked up on social media by everybody because everybody has their cameras out. You know, it just shows you a behavior whether you're home in a public place or, you know, in a in a tremendous venue, you have to be a little careful now because everybody's got their phones out. And so you don't need a big photographer or paparazzi.

Everybody is the paparazzi now. So, beware. And also, I I wanted to shout out to the kids now who are starting back to school. Be careful what you use your phone for. You know, phone is supposed to be communication to your parents, to your friends, but don't send things that are inappropriate of yourself on the phone to your friends.

Don't say something that you're going to regret three years later. Be a little wary, you know, because the phone and the cloud is forever alive. And you wanna be be mindful. So that's the only hint I'm giving out for the fall for young people.

Okay. The rewind. What are you watching this week?

Oh my gosh. I've watched two different things, but my favorite one is a new thing. It takes place in LA, which of course right now is on fire. I mean, are all kinds of brushfires out there I keep seeing on TV, but that's not in this program. It's on Amazon Prime and it's called Countdown.

And it's about a special task force, that this head man puts together. They're all different kinds of detectives and drug people and and secret service, and they're gonna discover this great crime that somebody wants to portray to do in LA. And it's very, very suspenseful because it's very you know, you start to worry about it after the show is over. So that for anybody who likes suspense and it's one season, I think they're starting a second season, but it takes place in LA. So that's fun.

That was fun. All they, they put all the different areas on. I'm sure this was filmed three years ago. So you're not seeing any of the fires or the floods, but it's fun to watch.

So I don't know. I'm on episode three. It's on Netflix, and it's about these people in Texas, and they kinda have open relationship and then they're like shooting guns.

Dear Grandma Gail, every summer, I go to Cousins Beach with my mom and brother. It's the place that's always felt like home. I grew up there with our family, friends, the Fisher boys, and somewhere along the way, summer start to feel more complicated. I'm 19, and now I'm engaged to one of them.

He's wonderful, makes me laugh, and feel safe. But here's the problem. I can't shake the fact that I've had feelings for his brother too.

man. Every summer, I fall back into old patterns, and I don't know how to separate nostalgia from what I actually want for the rest of my life. How do you know if you're marrying the right person, Grandma? And how do you choose between comfort and passion without breaking the family apart? Love, Belly.

Well, young lady, I feel for you. First of all, you're 19 years old. So in my my advice to you is you're getting engaged much too young. And especially if you have strong feelings for your fiance's brother or you think you might have it. So I don't think you've matured enough to go into a serious relationship yet.

Would I'm only going to give this advice at once. I would put it on hold. I would tell your fiance you're getting cold feet because you're too young and you want to give it a few more years. If you still feel the same when you're 21, 22, then go ahead. But this is a time to sort of explore your emotions and not limit them.

So I think you're a tiny bit too young. I wish you well, and I, see the problem so I think you better be a little careful.

Wait, I have a question. If you were her grandma, would you even support or show up to

the wedding or would you like not even I would always support my grandchild whether I agree with them or not. You know that I don't always agree with your decisions Kim, but I do support you. But you are also a mature, hopefully mature adult. A 19 year old is her brain is not completely matured yet. And especially if she herself is having qualms.

If she said, Oh, this is the love of my life. We've been together since we're 14, which they evidently have known each other a very long time. And this is the only man for me. Was a sure go ahead. My mother-in-law got engaged and married for sixty and she was 19.
