morning. My name is Don Marquez. Welcome to another edition of your insurance connection, broadcasting, right here at KU nv 91.5 jazz and more. Early Sunday morning, from 8am to 830 turn me up. I have a lot of valuable information to share with you about insurance. I am a licensed insurance broker right here in Southern Nevada, my hometown, been an insurance agent for the last 30 years. I'm celebrating 30 years this year. Yeah, started in 1996 and where did the time go? I can't tell you, but we're here now in 2026 and it's warm in Vegas. This is unusual for this time of the year. I say I don't understand why it's so warm right now, but who I hope this is not an indication what the summer is going to be so early. Maybe global global warming is real. I think it is. That's my opinion. It is what it is. But today, you know, a lot of topics, we're gonna talk about auto insurance and life insurance, and we're gonna talk about a little bit about boat and motorcycle insurance, because it's that time of the year Boaters are going out to the lake and enjoying their boats on the lake. Let's start with that first. Let's start with boating. Now, if you do own a water craft, you do have to have liability coverages on the lake. Now Lake Mead requires you to have at least a minimum $100,000 of liability protection, whether your boat is docked at the lake or you go on the lake to enjoy your day out on the lake. And I bring this up because of the weather. It's getting warm, and people just love to go out there when the weather is warm and just cool off. You know, get in the dip, take a dip in the lake and just cool off. I go out to the lake. I'm not getting in the water, but a lot of people like to jet ski. They like to ski, and, you know, I'm just enjoy the lake, but just keep in mind, if you have a water craft, you do have to carry the higher limits of liability according to the bylaws at Lake Mead. If you don't understand these requirements at the lake, you can contact, you know, the offices at Lake Mead marinas, and they'll tell you exactly what you need to know. Now, if your boat is on the water water, you understand that you do have to carry the higher limits of liability, and that's $100,000 liability to operate your watercraft on the lake. Now, if you have a boat that you pull and dock it, you know, you launch it at the lake. I should say, you know, the liability might be a little different. I don't know you would have to call and check, but I just to be on the safe side, I would recommend you have a lot higher liability protection, because you never know what may happen on the lake. And while you're on the water, you know, look out for others, because you have some people out there just paddling on the board with a dog on the board, and you know they you don't see them, you know, especially if you're on your jet skis or on your water craft, and you're going quite fast, and all of a sudden you see a person paddling, standing up, paddling, and they're your wake catches them and they fall over. But just to be, you know, just be vigilant on water. Be safe at all times. If you offer to help someone on the lake, you have to be really careful with that. They are resources on the lake that will you they can call to get help. But if you, if you're, you're, you're assuming liability. When you rescue someone on the lake and and tore them in, you're putting yourself at a lot of liability risk, you know, and every scenario is different. I know you want to be a good patron, but I've heard stories where people will help others on the lake or even others out and they end up getting sued. Yeah, it happens, and there's any insurance business, I hear a lot over the many years as an agent, and you'd be quite surprised what I hear people find ways to come after you, just by being a good Samaritan. Yeah. So if you're stranded, you know, see someone stranded and you want to help them, and I'm I'm not saying not to help them. I'm just letting you be aware that you know if something goes on according to plan, or you just trying to be a good Samaritan helping them, and now all of a sudden they want to, want to sue you for coming out to help them. So just keep that in mind. But you know, I know you want to participate in helping individuals, but unfortunately, people retaliate, and they sue you today. My name is Dave Marquez, that's news. You can use my contact. Phone number is 702-236-2624 702-236-2624, motors, motorcyclists, they're out as well because of the weather. The weather's nice, you know, they get up early. They ride their motorcycles. If, though, if the if the bikers are riding in a group a formation, please do not cut through their formation. Slow your car down if you need to get off on off on off ramp. Motorcyclists are very careful riders. They will allow you, they will allow you to move over, but they don't want you to cut in their group. They ride in a group for safety reasons, and they don't want anyone cut cutting in their in their in their formation. So keep that in mind, even if you have to move over, you know, signal to move over, and they'll make maneuvers to allow you to get in. Or maybe you just have to wait to the end of the of their you know, group and then move over, but you don't want to cut in. That could be a dangerous move for the cyclist. Just keep that in mind. I've seen it. I ride motorcycles. I've seen it happen many, many times where people, I have a car, I can move over and, you know, and you could cause accidents, harm to others when you force your way into the cyclist group. Keep that in mind, motorcyclists. You know, there are people to and they ride with caution. Sometimes they don't, because I see some people with the, you know, the high performance motorcycles, cutting through traffic. I don't recommend that, you know, be, you know, be visual when you're when you're going home at night or going to work in the morning, because some of a lot of these cyclists, they cut through the lanes. And if you're cutting through a lane while they're cutting through a lane, you don't hear them coming. You know that could be an accident. That could be an accident. Just keep that in mind. And if you ride a motorcycle, cyclist, don't cut through the lanes. You know that they do have a lane that you can ride in. You can get all the way over to the lane the you know where they allow two people or more to ride in that lane. They also let the cyclists ride in that lane too as well. Cutting through traffic is dangerous for you and also dangerous for people that are driving. My name is Don Marquez. This is your insurance connection. my business hours are Monday through Friday, from 10am to 5pm Monday through Friday. My office is located Sahara Rancho in the US bank center, eighth floor. I work by appointment, 702-236-2624, that's the subject that a lot of people want to know why the car insurance rates are so expensive, you know. And I tell people this again and again. If you've been with your insurance company for at least three years, at least three years, you know, I probably can shop that rate. Sometimes I have success with it. You know, there's other times where maybe we just bump heads, but, you know, it's okay to try. It doesn't cost you anything to try. Just made me a little time to see if, you know, we could save you money. I have saved people money over my many years. I have companies now that I have travelers, I have a progressive, I have safe code to write the home and auto with, not with progressive. Unfortunately, I can only write the home. The motorcycle and progressive motorcycle insurance is one of the number one motorcycle insurance insurers in the country, you know. So if you have a motorcycle and you want your motorcycle insured, I have progressive for motorcycle insurance, auto insurance, but renters insurance, but not homeowners insurance. At this time, I'm licensed in California for life insurance, Louisiana, Texas and Michigan for life insurance, for auto insurance and homeowners insurance. I'm licensed in 48 states, with the exception of California and New York. 702-236-2624, if you're buying a car this time of the year, people are receiving their tax rate. Refunds back if you get one. God bless you. You know you you deserve it. And sometimes, you know they take that tax refund and go buy them a car. So you buy your car, I always encourage to shop the insurance before you buy the car. You can get the VIN numbers from the online. You know you can go online today, because a lot of people shop online before they go to the dealership. My the last few cars I've purchased, I buy, I go online, I find the car that I'm looking for, and sometimes I purchase the car in state, and sometimes I purchase a car out of state. I've done that a few times where the deals were so good, the transportation to get the car back to my home. It was worth it. It was definitely worth it because I like cars with low mileage, on very low mileage, anything on the, you know, 20,000 sometimes 10,000 whatever I can find out there with low mileage, and it's a late model car, and it's time for me to purchase a vehicle. That's what I'm looking for with the warranty still on it. Now, if you are purchasing a vehicle with the warranty still on it, you don't necessarily need to buy that extended warranty. Just keep that in mind. If you are purchasing a car and you're upside down, please buy the GAP insurance. I can't encourage you enough to purchase the GAP insurance through the finance company. Now, all that other stuff they try to add on that's up to you whether you want to purchase it, because they they'll, they'll throw it. Will replace your windshield. If you get a crack on your wheel, we'll replace that. I mean, a lot of this, your insurance will do as well. And with those, you know, those gimmes at the dealership, you really have to just don't, don't be so gullible if you're trying to buy they if they're pushing you to purchase the warranty that day, right at the dealership, you know, tell them, No, I just want to shop around, do my own shopping. And if they say, Well, if you don't get it today, you know, this is only a one time offer, that's fine, you know, okay, that's fine. You do have a lot more options. I've purchased pre owned cars without an award, without a warranty. And I purchased the warranty online, some very reliable companies out there, and they cost a lot less. Keep in mind, at the dealership, they'll include it in the deal. They'll make it very easy for you, but you're paying interest on top of the interest you're already paying for the car. You're paying interest for the warranty. Now that's up to you. That's totally up to you. But if your car is upside down, the meaning you owe more on it than it's worth, because now you trade it in a car to purchase the new make the new purchase. You had a balance on the on the previous car. What they do? They roll that balance over on the new vehicle.
Donald Marquez 12:39
That's amazing how they do that. Okay, now your car is is worth you were you owe a lot more than this word, than it's worth, yeah, because they rolled your $15,000 balance on top of the car you're buying with no money down. So that puts you in a gap situation, or you put very little down. Now the gap now, if you're going to the dealership and you're putting at least 25% down on the car purchase price, you may not need a gap. You may not need the gap. Just keep that in mind. Or if you're in the process of refinancing your car to pull money out, you know they also offer the dealerships or and the loan companies offer a life insurance policy within financing your purchase for a car. You know, if you have life insurance, you may not need that extra life insurance. You know, they can't. Oh, you know, we'll cover the loan if you pass before the loan is paid off. Now this, if that's in your budget, that's up to you, but I'm just telling you these options. When you purchase a car, they're coming at you, so they're offering your life insurance as a loan protection. If you pass before the loan is paid off, you know, the loan company will pay the car off through the insurance company that they use to put life insurance on you. Now, of course, there's no physical required when it comes to that, but if you already have your own policy, and you have a significant life insurance policy, you probably say, I don't need that. That's an extra expense. You've already paying for life insurance that that now you're paying twice for it. Now you're paying twice for the life insurance. This is news you could use. My name is Don Marquez. This is your insurance connection, a car insurance policy that will fit in your budget and give you the right coverages that you need. Because they will all think that, listening to this program, that most of you say you have full coverage. And if I ask you, what is your coverages? A lot of you have to scratch your head and say, Well, I don't know what my coverages are. I know I have full coverage as an insurance agent. That really doesn't mean a lot to me. That really doesn't mean a lot. I need to know exactly what your Pacific coverages are. This is how I shop for you. For the next company that'll save you money if you have the minimum state requirements, you're going to limit my shopping a. You know, increase your limits. Increase your limits, or you can decrease your limits too, as well. If you have budgets a little tight, and let's say you're carrying the higher limits of liability on your auto insurance, you know, if you really need to find a way to wiggle and save some money, maybe you could bring those rates down a little lower, those those coverage down a little lower, until, you know, okay, for instance, for an example, customer called me they had an at fault accident. They said, I mean, you know, my insurance rates went up a lot more than I can afford right now. I need insurance. But can you help me? Tell me what I need to do this. This is the customer in California. Okay, so I did well. You know, you carrying 100,000 per person, 300,000 each accident. I don't recommend this, but you can lower it to $50,000 per person, 100,000 each accident, and on your uninsured motors do the same coverages 5100, he called me back and said, man, thank you. I've saved significant amount of money. What I'm going to do is, once my accident fall off, then I'll increase my coverages back to where I haven't had them before, at 100,000 per person, 300,000 each accident. And he said, The only reason I'm doing this because I'm out of work right now and I got laid off, and I need to save money whenever I can. I do not recommend you lower your liability coverages. I just want to make that very clear. I don't recommend that if you're at a hunt, 100 300 even if you're shopping for car insurance, I'm a shop at the rate at 100,000 per person, 300,000 each accident on your auto insurance coverages. And I'm not one to want to reduce those coverages, because, you know, if something happens, I'll be questioned. Why was it? Why were they reduced? Now, you do have to sign, you know, an amendment saying that, okay, I'm accepting these rates at the lower value, or what I had them before. You do have to sign for it, and most insurance agents will clearly explain to you everything that you're doing. Instead of saying, You know what, I can save you some money right here. Just sign right here. Sign right there. I'm not that type of agent. I'm gonna one line by line, tell you exactly what you're purchasing. Tell you exactly what coverages you have. What are your deductibles? What is rental car? What is roadside service? Now if you do have a roadside service other than your auto insurance now, let's say you are in one of the motor clubs and you need a tow. What I like about the motor clubs are they do not report your toes or your roadside service on your driving history when you use your own auto insurance company for Roadside Service, and you call and say, I need a tow. I have a flat tire, my battery is low. What they'll do? They'll come out, but they put that as a claim on your policy. And when I'm shopping for you, and all of a sudden I see four toes. Now, whether they're tolls or not, they're considered roadside assistance. That counts against you. It really does. When you go through the car wash and the guys come out and say, hey, you know you have a crack in your windshield. Let me fix that crack for you. Don't worry about it. Your insurance company will take care of it. They don't tell you, I have to file a claim so we can get paid for this crack windshield. Now, if you know your windshield really needs to be replaced, I would take it to a professional and maybe you have to have the whole windshield replaced, because they're gonna put a little glue in there, wherever it is, just to slow the process down. Eventually it will crack, but it slows the process down a little bit, but you may eventually need a windshield. Why not just get the windshield? You know for more information, my name is Dave Marquez. This is your insurance connection. 702-236-2624 702-236-2624 Monday through Friday. My business hours at 10am to 5pm and I work. I do a lot over the phone. I write policies over the telephone, and if you need to see me, I'll make, will make an appointment in my office. I would like you to bring in your declaration page, some of your information I cannot pull up. For instance, I cannot pull up a life insurance policy, no obligation. Reviews for life insurance. No obligation. Reviews For auto, home insurance. Now for your life insurance, I need to look at your current life insurance policy to see where you are with the policy. If you've taken a loan out how much you own the owe on the loan. And some people tell me, because they don't quite understand how this works, they take out a loan on the policy, right? They don't pay on the loan, and all of a sudden they receive a letter say, Well, you know what, I only took out $1 amount, but that dollar amount has doubled over time. What is going on with my policy now, my premium payment? To stay the same on my life insurance but why is the loan doubling up every, every seven years? It's called a rule of seven every, every seven, eight years, your policy loan may double depending on the interest rate, because when you borrow money from a life insurance policy, the life insurance companies are charging you an interest rate on money borrowed. Keep that in mind now if you have underlying health conditions, lupus, cancer, diabetes, if you're on insulin, a history of cancer, multiple sclerosis, I can get you a life insurance policy. If you have AIDS, HIV, between age of 50 and 80, I can get you up to $25,000 of coverage. I say up to $25,000 of coverage you may not only need but $5,000 of coverage you only may need $10,000 in coverage. Don't be fooled by these advertisers saying, you know, rates start as low as Don't, don't. Don't get fooled with that, because those rates start at per $1,000 of coverage. So whatever you hear on television, our rates start as low as they're only talking about $1,000 or less of life insurance coverage. Keep that in mind, and people say, What could I do with that? Well, that might pay for flowers, but it doesn't take care of a funeral today, there are average cost of a funeral today is anywhere from 1520, to $25,000 Yeah, easy. You know, now you're a veteran. I want my veterans to know that if you if you are buried here and the Boulder City Cemetery, you know, the headstone, opening, closing, you know, you get a lot of, you know, you get a lot of benefits. As a veteran, they would may have to see your DD, 214, at the Boulder City Cemetery. For your loved ones, that's going to be a significant savings for your loved ones. Now, some people may or may not want to be buried in Boulder City Cemetery, but when you start adding the cost, what it costs to bury you versus in town you may want to consider as a veteran. Okay, let me. Let me take these benefits. Let me take my loved one to the Boulder City Cemetery. And if you're if you have a spouse, you can bury your spouse along with you in the bear and the Boulder City Cemetery. You can contact the boulder cemetery, Boulder City Cemetery for more information. My name is Don Marquez. This is your insurance connection. 702-236-2624, 702-236-2624,
