Challenging myself to record a podcast episode a day for my 50th year on this planet.
Speaker: Hello, welcome to Dailyish
for Monday, October 26th, 2026.
That's a mouthful.
I'm recording an episode every day
for this, my 50th year on the planet
I did miss a day yesterday, Sunday.
Uh, so for anyone keeping score
at home, that's the second day I
think I've missed on this project
of recording an episode every day.
it may be something
that happens more often.
I don't know.
We'll see.
I, I'm feeling very low energy,
low vibes kinda this weekend,
and just couldn't muster up the
thoughts and energy to
record, which sounds silly.
It's not that it's that taxing
to sit here and talk into a
microphone and record it, obviously.
But just kinda like needing something to
talk about, having purpose behind it, at
least having a reason to record and talk
about stuff and annoy you potentially
with words in your ears, or at least
the choice of whether to listen or play.
just didn't feel it
So who knows?
It could be seasonal, could be just a mild
depression thing that runs every so often,
dark clouds, you know, that kind of stuff
I definitely have those kinds of
days where, nothing feels that
inspiring or interesting or creative.
Stuff I love to do, whether it's playing
some music on the guitar that's hanging
there or playing a video game or whatever,
reading a book, et cetera, things just
don't feel that exciting or interesting
to me and kinda like then it starts
to stew in my brain a little too long.
Usually hanging out with friends
or family can help kick that stuff
out of my brain Or bad sleep habits
tend to e-exacerbate, make it worse,
if that's the right word for that
' Cause then I started dwelling on like
stats and analytics for, say, the
podcast, for example, and wondering
why it hasn't gotten further, bigger,
more listens, more views, et cetera.
And it's all kind of silly
stuff that's in my head
Because I know from past experience
that tomorrow or even this afternoon,
something will flip, unlock, whatever,
and the same things that I looked at with
like apathy and disinterest will all of
a sudden be like a creative opportunity
and interesting and exciting to play
with, even though the outcome is exactly
the same Which is partly why doing this
project for a year is really helpful,
because it gives me at least a purpose
beyond my own ability to be inspired that
day or that moment to record something.
where in the past, probably would've
abandoned the project wholly just
because I didn't feel it for a
couple days or a week or whatever.
Whereas this feels like, not that
I'm worried about letting people
down, there's just a self-imposed
rule about recording an episode every
day that draws me back to doing it.
And so when I miss a day, no big deal.
I'm not gonna beat myself up for it.
Hopefully you don't either.
I hope you enjoyed the longer
conversations I had over the
last couple episodes actually.
Spencer on Friday, uh, Josh on
Saturday talked about his game Tupo
I know I said I'd only do conversational
episodes Saturday, but the timeliness
of just getting to chat with Spencer
as well as the hockey topic that was up
that day kind of just made it make sense
to just publish that episode that day
So breaking rules all over the place
this weekend with the show but most
episodes will be under the 10-minute mark.
Don't worry
Before I thank the supporters of the
podcast, I just wanna make mention of a
cool thing that happened, uh, recently.
I had been wearing a transistor.fm
T-shirt, and a listener, viewer,
whatever we call them, uh, Void
and Cozy had noticed the shirt.
It's the sort of skull and
crossbones headphone w-
listening, microphone-holding,
uh, shirt from transistor.fm
that I got when I was at their team
meetup, uh, last year And Void and
Cozy had really liked the shirt.
They don't-- Transistor doesn't sell it.
It's one of the things they, I think,
they give out at, uh, conferences
and things like that just to,
like, promote the brand obviously.
and Void and Cozy had contacted them
directly just asking to buy the shirt,
and they don't sell them, like I said.
they instead just shipped Void and
Cozy out a shirt, some stickers, a
bunch of stickers, just really cool
customer service from Transistor,
Helen over at transistor.fm.
Uh, it's the kind of stuff that you get
from a smaller company that still is a
very big company in the podcast hosting
space, But just a very cool thing they
can do for people, even though Void & Cozy
acknowledged that probably wasn't gonna
be doing any podcasting anytime soon, so.
Indirectly, if you want to look at podcast
hosting, please check out transistor.fm.
Link is in the show notes, They've
got great podcast hosting as, of
course, and as you can tell, even
better, uh, customer support and
people that they, that work there
So which leads us into thanking the
supporters of this podcast on Patreon.
Patreon.com/ichris
is where you can go to support the
podcast directly if you'd like.
So that's John and Justin
over at transistor.fm,
Abby Fisher, Eileen Smee, Three Guys and
Three Questions podcast, and my mom, Lynn.
And also Void & Cozy on the YouTube,
uh, support membership page Which
by the way, this is not a promised
perk of the membership and isn't why
Void & Cozy supported me on, on YouTube.
But as a result of having some of these
interviews with people ahead of time, the
easiest way actually for me to sort of
schedule them out and know that they're
gonna go out on time is using a thing
YouTube has called Membership Preview.
So if you're a member of my YouTube
channel, you can get the videos earlier
than everyone else will, if you want.
There'sâ¦
You'll still get the same video.
It's not a different video that goes out.
You'll just get it whenever
I happen to have it edited.
So like, for example, this weekend,
there's an episode going out, another
conversational episode, and so that'll
be edited probably Tuesday or Wednesday
and set up to be published on the YouTube
channel and available there All right.
