[00:00:00] Renee: G'day, it's Renee at Floating Away podcast brought to you by Floating Away Wellness Center, located on level one of the Oasis Center in Broad Beach on the Gold Coast. This podcast is all about health and wellness. It's all about you, where we uncover transformative experience that calm your mind, heal your body and uplift the spirit through three services that we offer.
[00:00:32] Renee: Float therapy, Yoni steaming and the infrared saunas. Let's get started.
[00:00:38] Adam: Welcome to another episode of the Floating Away podcast. Now in this episode, we turn up the heat and discuss the health boosting benefits of infrared sauna with our special guest, Henry Costa from Floating Away. Get ready to learn how warmth can lead to wellness.
[00:00:55] Adam: Henry, welcome to the Floating Away podcast. Thank you, Adam.
[00:00:59] Henry: Good to be [00:01:00] here.
[00:01:00] Adam: Excellent. Now, Henry, can you explain the difference? I think most people would know what a, what, and realise what a sauna is. Can you explain the difference between a traditional sauna and an infrared sauna for us?
[00:01:12] Henry: Yes, sure, Adam.
[00:01:13] Henry: The traditional sauna runs at 80 degrees Celsius, which causes you to perspire rapidly. Yep. And that's how the detoxification happens through that perspiration. Infrared is not so much about heat at all, even though it runs at 55 to 60 degrees Celsius. It's the effect of the infrared that does the healing.
[00:01:36] Adam: Okay, so it does healing it's, so it's very different purpose to an ordinary sauna. I'd imagine you feel a lot more comfortable at that that level of temperature as well.
[00:01:45] Henry: That's true. And people don't, people will perspire, but they don't, they're not dripping wet when they're done.
[00:01:50] Adam: Okay, so one thing you're much more comfortable. Now, what are, I believe, what's so special about the infrared saunas in your centre compared to other ones out there? Yeah.
[00:01:59] Henry: Infrared is a [00:02:00] spectrum of three wavelengths of invisible light. And most common infrared saunas just have one of those three. And they all do something good, but having three of the three is much better.
[00:02:14] Henry: Fifty five percent of the sunlight is infrared. Which is why I like to keep a tan, because infrared does a lot of healing through the bloodstream. Saunas run those two or three of those wavelengths at the same time for the different programs. And the company that we bought them from, Sunlighten, has done, has a mountain of research about how well it all works and how to put together the right uh, weights on the various wavelengths.
[00:02:40] Adam: Okay. So you've got the three. So tell me what are some of the benefits of an infrared sauna?
[00:02:46] Henry: Our saunas run six different programs. There's detox, there's cardio, pain relief, relaxation, anti aging and weight loss. And so depending on which program you pick, [00:03:00] they all help in those, one of those six headings.
[00:03:03] Adam: Wow. Okay. Fantastic. So how does Color therapy work then in an infrared sauna?
[00:03:10] Henry: Again these saunas do have the chromotherapy in the ceiling.
[00:03:14] Adam: Yep.
[00:03:14] Henry: And they, the different, and the colors rotate and each color matches a chakra in the body and enlivens it.
[00:03:22] Adam: Okay. And talk me through actually having a session in a, so you what do you wear in an infrared sauna?
[00:03:29] Henry: You can wear your clothes, but then, of course, they'll be filled with some perspiration. What we offer customers is a towel to wrap around themselves. So that they can put their clothes in a basket and keep them clean until they're after the sauna. Sure,
[00:03:44] Adam: okay. And so you get in you get down to your towel and then just any other sauna you just sit and relax?
[00:03:50] Henry: Sit and relax. That's all you have to do? Yes, and we have, we've just added backrests to our saunas so that people can lean back and be totally relaxed. [00:04:00] While the sauna does its job.
[00:04:01] Adam: Fantastic. How long does a normal session go for in an infrared sauna?
[00:04:05] Henry: That's an interesting question. It's totally related to which program you pick.
[00:04:09] Henry: For example, the pain loss one is only a 30 minute program. Whereas the cardio one is a 45 minute program. Okay. And again, sunlight has worked out how much Exposure one needs for each of those headings I gave you.
[00:04:22] Adam: Run me through those again. I want to know those headings again. So each program.
[00:04:25] Adam: Yes. Detoxification. Okay. Let's talk about each one in a little bit. So detoxification, what does that one, what's that specifically for?
[00:04:34] Henry: Given the environment we live in, the air we breathe and the food we eat and especially the processed food, we all have toxins in our body. And the detoxification one is aimed at stimulating stimulating the release of those toxins, which through the bloodstream, kidneys and bladder.
[00:04:51] Henry: Cool. Number two? Number two is cardio. Okay. And there's a lot of research about how good infrared is for [00:05:00] cardio. I read a report some 12 months ago about, A man who had an extreme cardio condition and he said that he found out that if he had a cardio, if he had a, an infrared sauna every day his chances of a heart attack had dropped by 50%.
[00:05:14] Henry: Wow. That's anecdotal. I don't know if there was a study on it, but that was his experience. Yep. Okay. Number three? Pain relief. Again we had a man in recently who had the sauna and he came back out. And he said I've had a neck pain for the last 10 years and it's never felt so good.
[00:05:32] Henry: Now, we didn't cure it, but we gave him relief. Wow. Fantastic. Number four? Anti aging as far as I can tell on that one it stimulates rejuvenation of the cells in the body so that they replace properly rather than degenerating as you get older. Wow. This is amazing. Number five? Relaxation, again it's aimed at desensitizing the body of all pain and stress so that you can totally relax and therefore have a better quality of life when you come out.
[00:05:59] Adam: And [00:06:00] what I love, we talked about earlier, is that it's not nearly as warm as a traditional sauna, because I've always found those things very uncomfortable. Again they've got their benefits, I believe, but I just never found the benefits. to be comfortable enough to want to do that.
[00:06:13] Adam: Amazing. And the final one, number six. The weight loss one. Weight loss. You're telling me that infrared sauna can help with weight loss?
[00:06:21] Henry: Again, it stimulates the mechanisms in the body to shed weight. the wrong types of fat and other things that we carry around that give us weight.
[00:06:33] Adam: Wow. So six and they're all set programs that you have a different time at.
[00:06:37] Adam: They're set at different levels of light specifically to help with those particular programs.
[00:06:43] Henry: And they mix two of those three wavelengths or three of those three wavelengths. To get the best result for the program the person picks.
[00:06:51] Henry: Sunlight has worked all that out. And of, and the way it works is suppose you look at two programs and they're the same two wavelengths.
[00:06:59] Henry: You can [00:07:00] rest assured that the weighting on this one. Will be different from the waiting on that one because it has a different purpose.
[00:07:06] Adam: Yep.
[00:07:07] Henry: So that's how detailed and professional Sunlight has been working out these programs.
[00:07:13] Adam: Okay, so anyone out there listening who would want to get any one of those six benefits in those programs can come to you, choose that and in they go and it's all set, ready to go.
[00:07:23] Adam: Yes. Yes,
[00:07:24] Henry: correction. We actually had a couple coming down from Mount Tambourine, I think they finished up having 15 sessions because medical advice was it would help with his heart condition.
[00:07:38] Adam: Wow. Wow. So something really worth giving a go. Is it something Henry that you do just as a one off or is it you get more benefit by doing it regularly?
[00:07:47] Henry: It's not a one session cure all it can't be, because it's taken us years to build up these issues and so you can't just dissolve them in, in, in 30 minutes.
[00:07:56] Adam: Fantastic. Look, this has been enlightening. I [00:08:00] came in here expecting just to hear, that you go into a with light being on you and that there was, it had one purpose, but to know that it can do all these things and there are a different set programs.
[00:08:11] Adam: It's just it's mind boggling. And from just a few of the benefits you've mentioned well worth anyone giving a go. Thank you, Henry for warming us up to the idea. Is there anything else you'd love to, to tell us about infrared sauna before we go?
[00:08:23] Henry: Yes. Look the interesting thing is that infrared sauna is a complimentary treatment to flotation therapy.
[00:08:30] Henry: So we have special packages, we call them pamper packs, where people start with the sauna and then go to the float room. And it's highly beneficial.
[00:08:39] Adam: Fantastic. Because look, I have done another podcast with Renee Rowland on float rooms. And so do go and have a listen to that if you're interested. And be able to use all the services that they offer at Floating Away, which should, of course you're located in the Oasis Centre at at Broadbeach and do check out their website, www.
[00:08:57] Adam: floatingaway. com. [00:09:00] au, where you'll be able to find a heap more information and where you can book a session online. So look, thanks again, Henry, for really warming us up to the idea of infrared saunas transformative power. If you're looking to detoxify, de stress, lose weight all of those things floating away has the perfect solution.
[00:09:20] Adam: So once again, that website, www. floatingaway. com. au Henry Costa, thanks so much for being a guest and telling us all about infrared sauna on the floating away podcast. You're welcome. Thank you for the opportunity, Adam.
