Right on Rangers is where Rangers fans ride the season in real time.
The LIVE shows are the heartbeat. Big wins, ugly losses, bullpen chaos, breakout heaters, trade rumors, roster debates, and the takes that come with actually caring about this team.
Sometimes those takes get hot. That’s part of watching 162 with people who are invested. But the reaction still has receipts. We use stats, film, history, roster context, and what’s happening on the field to figure out what the game actually revealed.
Between LIVE shows, we go deeper on the players, decisions, stories, and moments shaping Texas baseball.
Rangers first, always. When the calendar turns, the Cowboys, Longhorns, Mavericks, and the biggest Texas sports stories get their run too.
If you want sterile box-score recaps, this probably isn’t your show. If you want passionate Rangers talk with actual baseball underneath it, welcome in.
Hi and welcome to another edition of Right
on Rangers Live.
Coming at you fourth quarter, getting a little
nervy.
Five minutes and change left.
You've got the Sooners in a third and
16.
Texas trying to pull this one out.
It has been an embarrassing second half thus
far.
Texas offense has really made this a lot
more difficult than it needed to be.
John Mateer is going to take off here.
He's going to be stopped at the original
line.
Texas is going to get the ball back
here with about five minutes left.
There is a flag though.
What now?
What a flag fest this has become.
Just a total flag fest here.
And look, you guys know me.
I mean, at least some of y'all
do.
I'm not going to sit here and blame
officiating for the reason why Texas is not
dominating this ball game.
It hasn't been great, but the offense is
really what hasn't been great in this one.
It has been a bad offensive performance really
until that last drive where you had Arch
Manning really finally looking in sync.
Like finally.
And that was the best drive of the
day easily.
Maybe the best drive of the season.
I mean, that to me was the first
time they actually looked like what they should
be.
OU fixing to punt.
Niblett back to receive.
Kick is off.
Niblett, not fair catching it again.
Thinking about some more heroics.
You might remember last year, Niblett in the
Red River put some icing on the cake.
Not today though.
Four minutes and 43 ticks.
A similar scenario to what you had at
the end of the first half, right?
You had about three minutes and change left
and Texas went on a nice drive.
Very methodical.
Got the ball all the way down to
the red zone.
Ended up kicking a field goal to go
up by 10 at the time.
You need a similar drive right here.
You really don't want to leave a ton
of clock left, although I think you got
to be feeling pretty good about your defense.
I mean, let's be honest, minus the pick
six minus the punt block.
It's not a very close game.
I think that the defensive touchdown, the special
teams touchdown, we're not discrediting that.
OU earned those.
But if we're talking just about how you
feel about OU's offense, there have been some
moments, but I don't think that you're really
fearing or worrying about OU and the offensive
attack at this point.
If you can just get this into field
goal range, you got to feel pretty solid
about your defense's ability to be able to
get a stop.
Appreciate all you guys hanging out.
Thank you so much.
If you're just joining us 24 to 24
in the Red River Shootout, Texas, a 17
to seven lead at halftime and getting the
football and getting the football.
That to me is what's even wilder is
you had the double digit advantage.
You then got the football back coming out
of half and you had the beautiful, what
was it?
This nice little screen play on one of
the first plays of the second half, got
it up to the 50 and you thought,
oh, we're cooking.
We are cooking.
And since then it has been extremely uneven.
Josh, well said comment from TikTok here.
We have been killing ourselves.
I mean, and defensively, yeah, you have the
Biles roughing the passer on the trick play
and that is roughing the passer.
You come down, you nail them in the
head, but obviously OU's not earning that one.
And that's an interception.
You wish Biles would have just let that
arm come up a little bit, avoid contact
there.
It wasn't meant to be the PI in
the end zone, questionable call only because the
defender is actually playing the ball there.
I know the arm is slightly wrapped.
There's some contact there.
Clearly.
I don't think even without contact that that's
going to be a catch.
You're that one to me is the more
egregious of the calls, but even that one,
I don't even care to argue.
It's the offense today.
It's the effort.
It's some of the play calling.
It's just the sloppiness on really one side
of the football that stands out most in
my mind, special teams.
I think you could throw in there as
well.
Banks, I think is going to have to
answer some questions, man.
It's been sloppy on special teams to begin
this season.
I don't think there really is any doubt
about it.
It's one of the weak points of the
Longhorns right now, the special teams, the field
goal kicking really not included in that aspect
to me has been fine.
I don't really think he's had a ton
of opportunities to really be deemed a positive
or a negative.
He's made most of his field goal attempts.
We're really talking about some of the other
plays, right?
Well, I'm with you.
The game definitely should not be this close
arch scrambling around, man.
And he is going to throw a very
poor ill-advised ball that is lucky to
not get intercepted.
Arch has just been Jekyll and Hyde today,
man.
He's looked really sharp on some throws and
he has just looked completely lost on other
throws like that.
Toss to me.
I get it, dude.
It's going the other way.
Your momentum's carrying you.
You can't even make that one be close.
Second and 10 here.
Kevin, I'm with you coming from TikTok.
Looked like there was a hold on the
O-line on the would-be touchdown where
Texas got flagged, the pass deflection.
They scored a touchdown on the play immediately
afterwards.
Nice run up the gut.
Oh, he just got slowed down.
Oh my goodness.
Hollywood Smothers, he got ahead of steam.
That's a huge play.
You would love the running game to take
over here.
Arch, he had a nice drive last time
out, but you would just love the running
game to take some pressure off here.
They're going to pass it immediately.
A little creativity by Arch, and it's going
to lead to about a 20-yard gain
from Smothers.
Thought Arch was dead in the water, and
you have Arch with the little Tim Tebow
jump pass right as he's about to get
sacked.
And he finds Hollywood, who takes it upfield
nearly 20 yards on the pass and catch.
And Texas is cooking.
They are in OU territory.
Bleed a little clock here.
Bleed a little clock here.
I get it.
You've had a little success going fast.
Bleed a little clock here.
Arch running hard.
He is going to get about a six
-yard gain here.
Bleed some clock, baby.
Let's go.
Let's go.
That was very Tebow-esque, Kevin.
Yes, sir.
Very Tebow-esque.
Appreciate all you guys hanging out.
We are talking Red River Shootout.
Longhorn Sooners tied 24-24, three minutes and
change left on the clock.
Second and four, Arch going to hand it
off.
OU run blitzing, and they are going to
get a big loss here.
And that is one where you would have
loved a little bit of a slowdown and
an audible little check.
I know Arch is not the biggest in
terms of changing the play at the line
of scrimmage, but man, that is one where
you saw that run blitz coming, and you
would have loved an audible little play action,
little rollout, and hit somebody wide open.
Third and nine, two and a half minutes
left.
Arch in the shotgun.
Quick pass over the middle, and it is
going to be a very interesting call here
for Sark.
It is fourth and three.
Fourth and three.
You are going to let this one go
to the two-minute warning, and you are
going to talk about it.
This is a big call, really big call,
but I think you are probably going to
see Sark decide to bring out the unit
with how good the defense is.
Spetic, this will be about a, roughly about
a 52-yarder.
It is in his range.
This is going to be tough.
I can see both sides.
I could see potentially going for it.
Man, I just have so much faith in
the defense.
I really worry about going for it here,
and then you just give the short field
to the Sooners.
You do not want to see an opportunity
wasted here to take the lead with the
way the defense is playing.
What would you guys do?
Are you going for it here, fourth and
three?
You kicking the 50-yarder?
It is not a chip shot, not a
gimme.
I definitely think this is why they pay
Sark the big bucks, no doubt.
I personally, the kill shot, the aggressiveness in
me wants to go for it here.
I am trying to be a little bit
reasonable and be a little bit objective here,
but it is difficult.
I want the kill shot here.
Control your own destiny.
Keep the clock running.
The only other argument to me is you
have got such a great defense.
If you trust to nail this thing, I
really do not see OU being able to
mount something offensively.
Maybe they get into field goal range and
tie it.
Maybe.
I definitely do not see them mounting a
touchdown drive.
They need to get closer.
Shane, I think that it is well taken.
Comment from TikTok there.
If this was a little bit closer, I
think it becomes a lot more of a
no-brainer.
If this is a 40-yarder, if this
is a 35-yarder, I think you are
feeling a lot better.
50-yarder, definitely not an automatic make here.
I am not sure what play call I
would go for here, but I know this.
You got to have something quick dialed up.
You got to have a good hot route
here.
You know Venables is going to dial up
a blitz.
You know they are going to put pressure
on Arch.
Whatever you are doing here, do not get
too cute.
You do not have time for this thing
to develop.
You know OU is going to be bringing
some heat.
Appreciate all you guys hanging out here right
on Rangers.
We cover everything Texas sports, but we put
a huge emphasis on the Longhorns during the
college football season.
We thank you so much for choosing right
on Rangers for all of your Texas Longhorns
content.
Drop a comment.
Drop a question.
We will 100% be checking the chat
periodically throughout the rest of the game.
We will, however, be doing much more of
that during the postgame show, which obviously starts
immediately after that clock hits zero.
Jay Moore, what's good?
Appreciate all you guys hanging out.
Look, a lot of noise going to be
had, especially if Texas can't pull this out.
I think they will.
I will knock on wood for all y
'all out there, but I think Texas is
going to find a way to pull this
out.
If they lose this one, it is going
to be relentless this week.
Even if they win this one, I think
the noise is going to be a bit
relentless.
A lot of people already, they are not
the number one team.
A lot of talk, and there is nobody.
We went through this last week.
There is nobody else in the league right
now that's played anybody.
Georgia, I know Georgia is going to be
the one that a lot of people point
to.
They should be number one.
Georgia hadn't played anybody.
The best team they played is OU.
To me, I'm not at all buying that
there is this clear cut number one team
above Texas right now.
You do the on paper thing.
You do the on the field thing.
I know Joel Klatt came out in the
middle of the week and said, on the
field, they just don't look like the best
team, which is so ironic considering they beat
the number one team in the country.
They beat a top 15 team on the
road.
OU, this is clearly not helping the resume,
but I think most people understand this is
a rivalry game.
It's a rivalry game here.
Here we go.
Kicking the field goal and trusting the defense.
Biggest kick of Spetic's Longhorn career.
No big deal.
Kick is up.
It is a little pushed and he misses
it.
He misses it.
Oh, he pushed it.
Brutal.
Absolutely brutal.
That is going to be a much maligned,
much discussed decision by Steve Sarkisian.
I see the reasoning.
I really do.
I'm not going to light Sark on fire.
You're trusting Spetic there.
Gianni Spetic, he's definitely got a great history.
You trust him to make it in.
Plenty of leg.
That was good from 58, maybe even 60.
That had plenty of leg, but man, it's
difficult when it's a 50-yarder.
It's fourth and three.
It's fourth and makeable.
You got to trust the defense now.
That's all you can do.
Mateer in the shotgun running back to his
side.
Quick pass.
You got about a five or six-yard
gain here out of bounds.
Buck 50 left, second down.
That is going to be a decision that
many people talk about in this coming week.
Sark fourth and three goes with the 50
-yard field goal.
Not a lot of people are going to
know the history there with Spetic, where they
got him, all that good stuff, without getting
into it as the next play is about
to unfold here.
There's a lot of reasons you trust Gianni
Spetic there.
Dude, that was good from 60.
Just pushed it a little bit to the
right, unfortunately.
Mateer getting pressured.
He's able to escape.
Gets about a one-yard gain here.
It sets up a huge third and four.
Sarkisian is going to be content to let
this one drain down.
OU will probably do the same here.
You'll see them milk a lot of clock.
It'll be down to about a minute by
the time this ball is snapped.
Will Muschamp looking on.
It's been a pretty solid day for the
defense, honestly.
We see the 24 points, but being real,
this defense has had a much better day
than the 24-point show.
Five seconds on the play clock.
You might see a timeout here from OU.
Looks like they are going to call the
timeout here and think about this one.
Big play.
Wise from both coaches, honestly.
You want to see as much time get
taken off as possible.
Sark, you still got that timeout in your
back pocket.
If the ball is in the field of
play with a completion, a run, you have
that timeout.
You can stop it, and you'll still have
one timeout left to get the ball back
with about 55 seconds, maybe slightly less than
that.
You can maybe mount a game-winning drive
here.
Defense has been unreal today.
They really have.
You take away the pick six from OU.
You take away the short field.
You take away the special teams punt block.
The defense has held OU to 122 yards.
122 yards for Oklahoma's offense.
This defense does not deserve to lose this
ballgame.
They do not deserve to lose this game
at all.
The offense does.
The offense is about the exact opposite.
Offense surely does deserve to lose this football
game.
They have not been good enough today, but
all you need is one drive.
That's all you need.
We keep on rolling.
All right, two running backs set.
Now we motion them out.
Texas is coming over the middle.
Incomplete.
He dropped it.
Did he drop it?
It might have been a little behind by
Mateer, but that pass, a catchable ball, and
it is fourth and four with a minute
left.
Texas is going to have another opportunity here.
How did Biles?
Oh, Biles tipped it.
Biles just slightly tipped that one with his
arm.
Caused the football to just be a little
behind.
OU wideout not able to handle it, and
we are punting.
Niblett back to receive.
Huge play.
Biles just getting that upper arm in there.
Just getting the tricep in there, man.
It's all you needed.
Ulrich with the punt.
Niblett.
Can a fair catch it?
Oh my goodness.
Ryan.
Ryan.
Come on, baby.
Don't do that to me.
Niblett.
Fair catches it.
Stumbling forward.
Never a doubt, Ryan Niblett.
Never a doubt, my guy.
54 seconds to glory.
54 seconds.
Arch Manning 18 for 28 on the day.
250 plus through the air.
Three touchdowns.
Looks like a pretty good stat line.
If you watch the entire game, though, I'm
not sure good is how you would describe
the offensive performance today.
Not sure if that's the first word that
comes to mind.
A lot of flags today, especially in the
second half, but I'm not even going to
go there with the flags.
Yes, there's a couple of questionable ones that
I look back on, but nevertheless, y'all,
it is not about flags today.
I can't lead with that in good faith
and good conscience.
I just can't.
It's just been sloppy play from Texas.
A little check down here to Smothers is
going to get about three yards out of
bounds.
Not really what you wanted to see first
play coming out here, but still got a
lot of clock left and you got two
timeouts.
Even better with that incompletion, with that deflection,
you were able to keep that second timeout.
Abraham, they're playing for a field goal right
here.
They're not playing for a touchdown.
All you need is a field goal.
Just get in range.
Arch, step up.
There you go.
All right.
40, and we're going to get a clock
stop here.
You need probably about 25 more yards to
feel comfy.
About 25 more yards to feel comfy kicking
a field goal.
OU looked a little disoriented.
Ball is up.
Arch just throwing it away.
Are we going to get a PI here?
Are we going to get a pass interference
here?
Cam Coleman, Arch was trying to hit him
late.
Let's check this one out.
Pass interference on Oklahoma.
Hello.
Huge play.
Going to have to see the replay on
this one.
I mean, look, Arch was throwing to nobody
seemingly.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, that's pretty clear and obvious PI.
Pretty clear and obvious.
Doesn't look like Coleman was even going to
be running a deep route, but nevertheless, we'll
take it.
We will take it.
Now you need about 10 to 15 yards
to get into field goal range.
30 seconds left.
Arch, plenty of time.
He's taking a shot.
And nowhere.
Man, for how confident he stepped up.
I thought surely somebody was streaking wide open.
24 ticks.
Second down in 10.
You still got two timeouts.
Everything's open right now.
Not sure why we're trying to go deep.
Everything's open.
Scheme up something, Sark.
Man, I was just saying this before I
got on the live.
There have not been a lot of plays
today.
Just schemed wide open, man.
Not a lot.
You got the whole field, and you got
two timeouts.
Manning looks like intercepted.
We're likely going to overtime.
Man, it pains me that that is the
best that you can do with the play
calling.
That's the best you can do with your
play calling is you toss it to a
well-defended comeback route, curl route.
You said you got two timeouts.
You got the entire field wide open.
You don't have to throw it.
You don't have to throw it to the
sidelines.
You can throw it to the middle of
the field.
Interested to see what Arch is looking at
here.
You got a lot of pressure, obviously.
There was not a lot coming across the
middle of the field.
Man, don't love that.
Just don't love the play calling today.
I know hindsight's 20-20.
I genuinely do.
Why aren't you using the middle of the
field?
There's nobody in the middle of the field.
Nobody.
Absolutely wild.
We keep on rolling.
Mateer and OU are going to try and
at least make this interesting, and they do.
They do.
Incomplete, actually.
Looked like he had the catch.
They're going to rule it incomplete.
12 ticks left on the clock.
What happened here?
Yeah, they might look at this one.
Yeah, I'm not sure what that ref was
seeing on the sideline.
And I got to admit, I was a
little surprised when they called that out of
bounds.
One foot.
You got two feet down.
That's a huge miss by the ref.
It's going to be Texas 48-yard line.
Still a ways to go, but 12 seconds
left.
That is a catch.
Defense trying to bend, not break here.
They have been sharp pretty much all afternoon.
Trying to bend, not break.
This shouldn't take long.
Appreciate all y'all hanging out.
OT is the only hope right now.
Either that or a turnover and touchdown subsequent,
which with OU being a little aggressive here,
credit to them.
They're being a little aggressive.
I did not think they were going to
come out firing.
Yep.
Let's see.
OU, no timeouts.
One timeout.
One timeout left for the Sooners.
You can make a nice catch over the
middle, call timeout, and set up in field
goal range.
I'm making Mateer get rid of the football.
I don't understand letting him just sit back
there.
Make him get rid of the football.
I can imagine they're going to bring some
heat on this play.
Let the DBs make a play.
Let somebody in that wide receiver court for
OU beat you.
If they do, then they do, but don't
let Mateer sit back.
Don't let Mateer sit back and get comfortable.
Looks like they're showing five rushing.
We'll see if they have somebody drop back
into coverage.
25 seconds left on the play clock.
They're taking a second here to let this
thing start winding.
Haha.
All these no profile picture like to talk
mess.
Oh, it's very typical.
Very typical.
Like we always say, man, it's always showing
up when Texas is losing.
Always.
And that's what they did, man.
They went to one of their receivers, one
of their best guys, and it's Sategna
man.
What a catch.
What a catch.
I looked like he did have that leg
down.
Looked like he did have that foot down,
man.
They might lose this ball game.
What a bad loss.
Yeah.
His foot's down.
What a bad loss.
If they end up taking an L here,
Arch Manning, definitely one of the guys who
is going to take the most heat for
his interceptions today.
Sark, absolutely a little bit as well.
Play calling.
You just didn't have anything schemed open today.
Nothing felt easy today offensively.
I don't think Arch was doing you a
lot of favors, but nothing felt easy offensively
today.
Bando, what's good, man?
Thanks for hanging out.
It's going to be about a 45 yard
field goal to win it.
About a 45 yarder.
Nine seconds.
I mean, you could kill a little more
time here.
You wanted to just have Mateer drop back
and throw one out.
You could kill a little more clock here.
Throw it at somebody's feet.
Just waste a few more ticks just in
case you miss.
OU's going to have a shot.
24-24, nine seconds left in the ball
game.
Nervy moments here at Red River, especially for
Longhorns Nation.
Credit to OU, man.
I did not think they were going to
be aggressive with how much time they had
left.
They were.
Thought maybe they'd play for OT.
Mateer killing some clock here.
It is going to be about a 47
yard field goal to win it.
He's missed one, made one, I believe, if
I'm not mistaken.
Missed one, made one, the OU kicker.
Surely hope OT is on the docket, but
this is a makeable field goal, not a
chip shop, a makeable.
If you're Sark, you got two timeouts.
You wonder if you're going to get some
icing here or if you're just going to
let them straight up kick it here to
get a win.
I do need to chug some more water.
Seriously.
100%.
Appreciate all y'all hanging out today.
Definitely.
Brian, I'm with you on this one.
YouTube comment here.
Just a bad game.
Bad game for Texas all the way around.
Maybe they escaped this one with the win,
but it's ugly.
They have got some things to fix with
the gauntlet that they have coming up one
way or the other.
Win or loss.
You've got quite the gauntlet of games coming
up here.
We were talking about it last week or
a couple of weeks ago on the show.
Either way, victory or defeat, there needs to
be some changes, man.
Here we are.
Three seconds left.
47-yard attempt.
A little icing here.
Figured that was coming.
Just delay it a little bit.
Make him think a little bit more.
Oh, please.
Can we get a hook?
Can we get a push?
Oh, please.
I know they don't deserve to win this
game, but why not?
Why not?
Texas, 17-7 halftime lead.
17-7 halftime lead.
Had the ball coming out of halftime.
Just no excuse to lose this football game.
No excuse, man.
We'll see if Sar can get one more
timeout in here if he's going to let
this one rip.
Texas special teams, come on.
Get some pressure, babe.
Here's a snap.
Kick is up and it's good.
Sorry, performance.
Just sorry.
Embarrassing.
Embarrassing day of football for the Texas Longhorns.
Defense didn't deserve this one.
The defense just did not deserve this day.
Look, understood.
They give up the 30, 40 yards at
the end there to set up the game
-winning field goal.
You watched all four, man.
The defense did not deserve this one.
You had such a great day of defending.
Oh, you, man.
Less than 200 yards total?
Less than 200 yards total.
Offense was pitiful.
Sark, Arch, they got to take this one
on the chin.
Didn't deserve it.
Absolutely didn't deserve it.
Sark and Arch, man, they got to get
grilled.
Little smack talk, of course.
Of course.
Like I said, before the kick even went
off, they didn't deserve to win this game
either way.
Like I said, maybe the defense, you can
make an argument there.
Depressing.
No other way to say it.
Wonder how far they'll drop down.
Probably still top 10, but they are going
to see a little bit of a fall.
This just was not the game that you
wanted to be a potential L, though.
Not the game that you wanted to take
an L.
I mean, you look down the schedule, there
were some tough games coming up, but this
just wasn't the one.
Now, you got basically one, one game, one
loss left as your margin.
Arch Manning, two interceptions late.
Just ridiculous.
The first interception on the pick six was
horrible.
Second interception wasn't great either in a one
-on-one matchup.
Not a great ball either.
Hard to watch.
Good game to all y'all coming in.
Of course, we'll get some Sooners fans coming
to hang out, I'm sure.
That's how it always works.
Texas, at the end of the day, not
good enough offensively.
We're going to run through some of the
numbers.
Look, the defense, to me, you're asking them
to do so much when you play this
poorly offensively.
Special teams, another issue.
You missed a field goal.
At the end of the game, you allow
a punt to be blocked and picked up
for a touchdown.
I mean, Oklahoma scored 14 points on two
plays that had nothing to do with John
Mateer and the offense of Oklahoma.
It's a swing.
Huge swing.
And then you throw in the pick six.
You throw in the interception at the end.
It's tough for any defense to overcome some
of that.
Arch 100% needs to take this one
on the chin.
He has not been great, really, all season.
A couple of games I think you can
make an argument for against maybe lesser competition,
but I just don't know if the dominant
Arch game is ever coming.
I know that he had the great game
against Michigan.
I was talking about this with a couple
of fellow Longhorns fans, and I just don't
know that the big Arch breakout game is
ever coming.
It feels like it would be here by
now if it was supposed to.
The bowl game against Michigan, I can only
buy into so much considering the state of
what bowl games are now in 2026.
Yeah, I just don't think that game's coming.
I think Arch is going to, at best,
manage a game really well for you, make
a couple of exceptional plays here and there,
and you're largely hoping you have a good
running game, and your defense carries you.
And with how good this defense is, you've
got a shot.
You're going to have a shot in a
lot of games.
You really are.
No question, you are.
The defense almost won you this thing.
Defense tried to put the team on their
back, but ran out of steam.
You're on the field so much.
Big question for Sark is going to be
that fourth down call.
You're fourth and two, and you opt to
kick the 50-yarder instead of going for
it with your star quarterback.
I think that tells you a lot about
where Sark is at with the offense, doesn't
it?
You've got a fourth and three.
Yes, you've got a great defense, but it's
fourth and three, and you're going to kick
a 50-yard field goal if you don't
go for it.
You decide to kick it, and then you
immediately miss it.
If Arch was playing well, and if the
offense was playing well, I don't think there's
any question that Sark goes for it there.
I don't think there's any doubt in my
mind.
If Sark had confidence in the offense, and
might I say himself as a play caller,
you probably see them go for it there.
Kicking the field goal, definitely a questionable decision.
I can see the other side of it.
Don't get me wrong.
You've got a great defense.
You've got a really good kicker.
I know he didn't show it today, but
Gianni Spetic has been a solid kicker in
his college football career.
Arch, to me, at this moment in time,
I don't know if more time is going
to be helpful to him.
I think he's limited.
He is not a guy that is just
going to be putting up gaudy numbers for
you left and right.
That's kind of how it was sold.
That's how it was hyped up, and that's
not to say that Arch can't have some
nice games here and there.
I think he can, but I don't know
that a monster Arch game is coming this
year or not against a quality opponent.
Can he do it against somebody that is
more bottom of the barrel?
Sure.
I think he can put up some great
numbers, but against one of the top dogs,
I'm not sure that the statement, the Heisman
game from Arch is ever going to be
coming.
Just a painful loss when you drop one
to a rival like this.
Painful.
Extremely painful.
Flags definitely played a part in this one,
no doubt, but I want to stick with
what I said really as I opened up
the show.
The PI in the end zone, I know
a lot of fans are going to go
to that one.
To me, he's playing the ball on that
one, and there is some contact, but they
allow contact a lot, man.
Down the sidelines, they allow a lot of
contact.
They did start calling it tighter kind of
out of nowhere.
That one, I raised my eyebrow only because
you saw the DB playing the ball the
entire time.
That's not just blindly grabbing on.
That's playing the ball and actually making a
play on the ball.
Not the reason they lost, though.
Definitely not the reason they lost this game.
You can't throw a pick six.
You can't allow a special teams touchdown.
You can't.
No excuses, man.
We were talking about this with the Cowboys
game.
It's funny when people always come on and
say excuses.
I mean, how about just reasons they lost?
Excuses would mean reasons why we got robbed
or something like that.
I don't think anybody thinks that the Longhorns
got robbed today.
Excuses would be relevant if I thought that
somehow we were wronged.
The result was fair today.
No excuses, just reasons why this one went
the way it did.
Call it whatever you want, though.
No need to argue semantics.
The Longhorns didn't deserve to win today.
There's reasons why they didn't deserve to win
today.
That's what we're talking about here on the
show.
We'll look ahead a little bit later on.
We will definitely take a peek at the
Florida game.
Florida coming in a little bit wounded as
well.
Both teams trying to get back on track
more on that Florida matchup a little bit
later on in the show.
I'll take comments.
We'll roll through as much as we possibly
can.
Yeah, look, Longhorns today, if you're going through
the numbers, penalties were pretty even.
Eight and seven Longhorns flagged one more time.
The turnover battle, though.
The turnover battle.
Time of possession was evil.
It was evil.
It was even.
You had two interceptions by arch.
That was the difference.
Rod, question from TikTok.
Where do I think this puts us in
the rankings?
I'm going to say they don't drop out
of the top seven.
I don't think they'll drop out of the
top seven.
Prince may.
I think it's on both arch and Sark.
Great question from TikTok.
Who do you blame more arch or Sark?
I think I always am a little bit
more hard on the people that are actually
playing between the white lines.
I definitely don't feel like you can go
Sark primary arch secondary arch is the one
slinging the ball and throwing interceptions.
I can't go Sark as the primary Sark
is a secondary.
And hey, look, if you're going to say
it's arch and Sark, you know, look, Sark
is not far behind if he's a secondary.
I didn't think the play calling today was
great.
You had just very little plays schemed open.
There just were not a lot of open
receivers today.
It always felt like arch was either looking
downfield at covered players or throwing into contested
coverage.
It didn't feel like there were a lot
of slam dunks.
That to me is the best way that
I can put it as an offensive genius
and offensive guru, which we know that Sark
has a reputation for supposedly.
I don't know that we've really seen it
a ton in Austin, but Sark today just
was not good enough from an offensive perspective.
You did not have enough plays called putting
your team in a very high percentage success
rate situations.
Time and time again, you had arch pressured
often did not have a lot of opportunities
to really stand back there and pick a
part of defense when he did felt like
everybody was covered.
Everybody felt covered when he actually did have
time.
Sark Mike says going for the field goal
on fourth and two was soft.
I in the moment actually went both sides.
I said, you know, at the end of
the day, if Sark was feeling good about
the offense and if Sark was feeling good
about his own play calling ability, you go
for it there.
I know he's going to come out fiery
as he usually does.
I'm actually very interested in what his countenance
is going to be in the presser because
he's come at these postgame press conferences with
a lot of fire, a lot of clap
back attitude.
I wonder how he's going to come today
for me.
It needs to be a different tone, dude.
Like for once, just own that.
It wasn't good enough from you and it
wasn't good enough from the offense.
I hope that that does happen today.
I would be surprised if it didn't, but
nevertheless, it feels like Sark is playing a
lot of defense for this offense, if that
makes sense.
It's a lot of defending and in reality,
it just hasn't been good enough.
It hasn't been good enough from Sarkisian Manning
and the offense today.
If you look at the individual stats, I
mean, it's surely not the worst day offensively
you've ever had.
Texas ran for over 100 yards on the
ground.
It was an even attack.
You threw it 31 times.
You ran it 32 times.
Hollywood Smothers 12 for 39.
He had a couple of bursts in there,
but he had some tough sledding.
That's for sure.
The offensive line was not really able to
bully their way to big gains.
You had 3.8 yards of carry, just
all the way around.
Not good enough from this Texas offense.
The defense to me finally broke at the
end.
I can't sit here and rail on the
defense for only allowing one offensive touchdown, one
offensive touchdown.
That's going to be really hard for me
to do.
The offensive touchdown, obviously a little bit penalty
aided, not the reason that they lost.
I've said that a couple of different times,
but you had a number of different plays
on that drive where, oh, you actually did
score questionable and not really earned.
I mean, you have the Biles roughing the
passer.
I mean, whether or not he roughed or
not, it's a penalty, but that throw was
going nowhere.
I mean, if you would have ran right
past the wide receiver throwing the football there,
it's still going to be an interception.
Maybe you can make the argument, Biles getting
in his face helped a little bit.
I'll go there with you, but either way,
that throw, if you just run past him,
if you just jump past him, was a
duck that was going to get picked off
all day long.
Appreciate all y'all.
I'm just not convinced.
I'm just not convinced about the best team
in the country thing.
To me, I don't feel like there is
one team that looks a cut and above
clear number one.
A lot of people going to Georgia, and
I'm honestly not just being salty right now.
To me, Georgia, they are playing the best
team that they're going to play.
Maybe you throw OU in there, but I
don't.
Maybe I will admit a little salt on
that one, but I can't sit here and
say, man, Georgia just definitively playing the schedule
that they've played looks like the best team
in the country.
Who have they played?
They haven't played anyone to me very valuable
in deeming them the best.
I mean, if Texas plays a bunch of
lightweights, I think that you would probably feel
the same way.
I don't think that you can say Georgia's
the number one team in the country based
on the opponents.
Sark in the offense absolutely needs to be
better.
Boy, do I miss Quinn Ewers.
Yeah.
Some people didn't appreciate him enough.
Guillermo Sark and Arch were the problems today.
Yes, sir.
Yeah.
A lot of you guys on Manning and
Sark today.
Same way.
This one is absolutely on Arch.
Yeah.
The roughing call was the roughing call because
he hit him in the head.
And a couple of people like, what are
you supposed to do there?
I mean, you can control where your arms
go a little bit.
Like, I don't think it was a great
situation once Biles got in the air there.
I mean, at some point, once you go
airborne, you're not controlling everything about where you
land and where you're going to go and
who's going to maybe get in the way.
But yeah, Biles is in a tough spot.
They're getting airborne.
He's in a tough spot.
Georgia beat OU.
I mean, yeah, I don't think you can
use just the one common opponent as why
a team is clearly better or not better.
You can have a lot of go rounds
with common opponents, and you can also think
about who else Georgia has played.
Has Georgia played Ohio State?
How would that go?
How would Georgia versus Ohio State go?
Who knows?
That's why to me, you can't sit around
and play the game with Georgia being the
number one clear team in the country.
Now I think they will be.
But before this, I even heard a little
bit of that noise.
The best team they had played was Oklahoma.
A lot of you guys are saying, should
have gone for it on fourth and two.
Absolutely.
100%, you should have gone for it on
fourth and two.
I think that looking back, it's just an
indictment on the state of the offense.
If you have a superstar quarterback and a
really, really efficient offense, why wouldn't you go
for it on fourth and two?
I know the defense is good, but if
your quarterback is this Heisman superstar and you're
in sync and you're feeling good in the
flow of the game with the play calling,
you don't have anything dialed up that you
think you could convert on fourth and two.
That to me is the biggest takeaway as
I reflect back on that fourth quarter.
It was just a lack of confidence.
I know Sark is going to spin it
the other way like, hey, we got so
much confidence in our defense.
We got so much confidence in Gianni Spetic.
But how much confidence do you have in
the offense?
Not very much if you don't feel like
they can get two yards with the game
on the line.
The other thing there is even if you
go for it, you give OU a much
longer field.
OU would have got the ball.
They would have had to go probably what,
40 yards, 45 yards instead of only having
to go, what, about 25, 30?
Look, I hope that this loss, which is,
again, an early in the season loss, I
would say at this point, about halfway through
the season, I guess, slightly before halfway mark.
It's helpful to lose early if you're going
to lose.
I think a win today might have delayed
Texas considering any kind of serious change.
What's going right now is not working, offensively
at least.
I think Will Muschamp's doing a fine job.
Jake, appreciate the gift.
What you're doing right now, though, offensively is
not working.
And I think a win might have allowed
you to sweep it under the table a
little bit.
And look, I'm not sitting here thinking 100
% there's going to be wholesale changes, but
I do think that a loss like this
can be a catalyst for turning things around
or at least doing something different.
KC says Derrek Cooper needs more touches.
Coop was good today.
Five yards a carry?
I mean, look, Hollywood did a lot of
the tough runs.
Raleek Brown, he had 4.4 yards a
carry.
I mean, Hollywood was going through the trenches.
He had some hard runs today.
He did.
For me, I just think at the end
of the day, when you turn the ball
over and when you have as many three
-and-outs as Texas did, it was close
to double digits in terms of the three
-and-outs today.
You are not going to win a lot
of football games.
Logan says Hollywood seemed like he was still
injured.
Possible.
Yeah, John Mateer, a lot of people, I
know it's a lot of OU fans thinking
that John Mateer is like on Arch's level.
I mean, look, good win, but yeah, give
me what you're drinking, man.
Seriously, John Mateer is not good.
I don't know how else to say it.
Arch Manning didn't have a good day, but
he's surely not on Mateer level.
My goodness.
Well, let's see what happens over the next
couple of weeks.
I think John Mateer's got a ways to
go, but y'all enjoy today's win.
Y'all enjoy this win today.
I really genuinely don't know anybody that thinks
that John Mateer is good, even that's an
OU fan, but I've met a couple today,
apparently.
John Mateer, to me, is the absolute last
reason I'm pointing to for why OU won
this game.
John Mateer was dinking and dunking all day
long, man.
Six yards per completion.
He had a nice throw there at the
end, no doubt.
Not going to take that away from him,
but man, the defense for OU, credit to
the defense for OU and to the special
teams unit.
That's it.
Credit to OU's defense, credit to OU's special
teams.
I'm not giving credit to OU's offense, not
at all.
They put up 200 yards.
They had a buck 20 in the fourth
quarter.
Absolutely not.
Got a short field there on the very
last game-winning play.
The very last game-winning series, I should
say.
OU's offense is still atrocious, but it was
just good enough today.
Yeah, Arch had a bad day.
Definitely a cut above John Mateer, let's be
honest.
Arch is not great in this moment, but
I can't sit here and say he is
as bad as what I've seen from John
Mateer over the last season plus.
Arch, to me, the two picks, he just
has got to figure it out.
You see so much volatility with the balls
that he throws.
You've got the ones he hit down the
field, the Coleman.
It's like, man, this guy looks like a
freaking stud.
He can hit guys on a freaking bullseye,
man, just no problem.
But then you've got plays like the pick
six where it's like, dude, where are you
throwing it to?
Where are you throwing it?
You can hit Cam Coleman 40 yards down
the field in stride, but you can't hit
a little 15-yard, 20-yard rollout pass.
Not good.
Not good.
On that one where he does throw the
pick six, Cam Coleman's open.
Cam Coleman is open.
I don't know what anybody else is seeing
on that play.
Cam was open.
Arch just threw a floater.
Instead of just putting some zip on it,
putting it right on the numbers, Arch threw
this weird floater pitch.
And he just does that.
It's like it's either a bullet or it's
like this weird wonky pass like, dude, this
looks like something out of a middle schooler.
Just a tough, tough loss today.
Rank now, JC, I would say TikTok comment,
by the way, what's the rank?
Top seven.
Top seven.
I don't think you can drop them in
a rivalry game down any lower than that.
Neutral field rivalry game.
I think they'll at worst be seventh.
At worst.
Other things as we roll through.
Really just the turnover battle stands out to
me the most.
Third down efficiency was bad for both teams.
OU was two for 13 on third down.
Texas was three for 14.
Slightly more first downs than OU.
16 to 14 there.
Texas over 150 or 140 more yards of
total offense.
But the turnover margin.
OU, I don't think OU is going to
be ranked necessarily.
Viper, appreciate the comments from YouTube, man.
Good game to you.
Congratulations.
I don't think OU is.
I could see mid-20s.
I could see 24, 23.
I could see something like that.
I think Texas probably does fall to number
six.
At worst, number seven.
They might be fifth, maybe, but it kind
of depends on some of the other results
this weekend.
We'll go to four, possibly five.
Artie says Ohio State is five.
Yeah, I could see five.
I don't think they're going to be top
four.
I think they will drop to five, between
five and seven if I had to guess.
Aggies lost today, so it evens out.
Comment from YouTube.
Yeah, it makes me feel a little better,
but I'll be real with you guys.
Not enough better.
Not enough better.
Losing to OU, even with an A&M
loss earlier today.
Not enough.
Just not enough for me.
Need to drop to eight through 10.
There's not enough better teams, though.
That's the only thing.
I know some people just hate Texas and
want to see them punished for being a
pretender, I guess.
They did beat a number one team.
I guess we can just forget about that
completely, right?
I just don't know.
If you're being objective, are the teams that
you're hypothetically putting ahead of Texas to drop
them all the way down to number 10
really better than Texas?
I kind of doubt it.
Maybe.
Maybe.
I'd have to look.
I would be shocked, though, if you can
find nine teams that you legitimately think are
better than Texas at this point.
I don't think you're going to.
All right.
We got to look a little bit ahead
to next week.
We've talked about special teams.
We talked about some of the officiating.
A factor, but not the reason the Longhorns
lost.
Arch Manning, definitely going to get a lot
of crap this week.
We talked it through.
He had a few touchdowns today.
Had that nice response drive to make it
24-all.
But then after that, gets the opportunity to
really put the game on ice.
And I think that's what you're going to
remember there.
And you're going to remember Sark not going
forward on fourth down.
And why didn't he go for it?
They'll have to ask him.
But I would submit they don't go for
it because you don't have enough confidence in
Arch and the offense.
He would never say that or admit that.
But I absolutely think that was a factor.
He's going to say, trust the defense, trust
the kicker.
You didn't trust your offense there.
You just didn't.
Sooners deserved to win this game today.
Texas just was not sharp enough.
So tip of the cap to Venables, tip
of the cap to the Sooners defense special
teams.
And look, the offense, they needed one drive
to win it, and they got it.
Simple as that.
Now, third downs, we already talked about a
lot of issues on third down for both
teams.
Brutal number for an offense with this much
talent to be three for 14 on third
down.
Longhorns had a significant advantage in yardage late
in the fourth quarter.
Still found themselves in a game that could
go either way.
And really, as I think about it, it
tells you something about how much all the
mistakes from today mattered.
Venables has a legitimately good defensive unit, and
I don't want that to be lost in
this.
OU's defense, I talked about it today on
a video that I put out, OU's defense
is one of the best in the country.
That to me needs to be said.
However, I still think the Longhorns, they can
score on just about anybody when they're clicking,
when they're right.
I don't want to throw out the number
whatever, number five defense I think it was
in the country, OU.
I don't want to throw that out there
and give Arch and Sark a pass, but
I do think it needs to be said
out loud, this was not some scrub defense.
They're pretty good, and I think you saw
why today.
Although, Texas still found a way late, 17
fourth quarter points.
They were starting to get to them, but
it just wasn't enough.
At some point, here's the bottom line, at
some point, Sark, he has got to find
a way to get this offense producing beyond
the occasional explosive play, because that is essentially
how they're getting most of their points these
days.
It feels rare that they are just doing
a methodical 10 play, 11 play scoring drive.
It's a lot of big explosive plays, and
it's not enough consistency.
Then, you're really depending on those big hits
in order to be successful on the offensive
side of the ball.
Reminds me of the Rangers, honestly.
Some of you guys know I cover the
Rangers extensively on the show.
It's like Texas, man, just reliant on the
home run.
That's the best comparison I can give.
Texas feels very reliant on the home run
ball.
The big play to Coleman, and you had
some of those today.
The big play to Wingo, but just methodically,
nine play, 10 play, 11 play, just picking
a defense apart.
It doesn't feel like that's what we're getting
right now.
Big Pete, I'm with you on the money
thing.
Comment from TikTok, all that money for what?
I will always say this.
I was watching the game with my dad
today, and for how much money they spend,
it just shouldn't be this hard.
It shouldn't be this hard.
You've got Cam Coleman, most sought after wide
receiver in the transfer portal.
You've got Arch Manning, the number one quarterback
prospect a couple of years ago.
You've got some good, solid talent in the
running back room.
You've got Mosley.
You've got Wingo.
These guys are not scrubs.
You've got a pretty solid offensive line as
well.
It's just too much money to not have
it a little bit easier, a little bit.
Arch holds the ball way too long.
I will agree on that.
A couple of people were coming back at
me for making that same comment, like, well,
everybody's covered.
Yeah, you don't have to take a sack
though if everybody's covered.
There are ways that you can either get
out of the pocket and not stand in
there forever, get out of the pocket and
throw it away.
You can throw the ball at the receiver's
feet.
There's a lot of creative ways that you
can still get rid of the football, even
if somebody's not open and not take a
big sack.
Arch was under some pressure today at times,
don't get me wrong, but when he did
have time, it felt like receivers were covered,
and then he just was not getting rid
of the ball.
You can't sit there in the pocket and
hold it forever.
Matt, good game, man.
That's all I can say.
Oh, you deserved it today.
Texas, if they would have won it, you
look, I obviously would have been happy.
There would not have been a ton of
complaints from me, but I would have for
sure still given similar criticisms.
And maybe it is a loss.
Maybe it is an L today in Red
River, a painful L that is going to
inspire some change in Austin.
What change is yet to be determined.
Now on deck, I'll be checking comments throughout,
but we're winding down the show a little
bit here, a little over the hour mark
on deck.
Florida comes to Austin next Saturday.
They were beaten by South Carolina 38 to
19 today.
That is consecutive losses for Jon Sumrall's Gators
and both Texas and Florida, I think, have
some serious questions to answer this coming week.
We talked about this, a get right game,
I think, for each team.
Each team wants to come out and get
back on track.
And we'll see who decides to show up
from each team, which version of Florida, which
version of Texas are we going to get?
Who knows?
You definitely have some dudes over on that
Florida squad.
I know the quarterback absolutely has got some
talent.
You also have a number of guys offensively
at the skilled positions that can hurt you.
Jadan Baugh in the backfield.
I mean, look, South Carolina just put up
38 points, 38 points.
That's a defense that Texas should probably be
able to challenge.
Florida just gave up almost a 40 spot
to South Carolina.
You would think Arch and Company should be
able to make it work.
But look, we've said that about matchups before,
and we've watched the offensive execution become a
problem.
So look, the matchup I'm watching is whether
Texas can actually keep Florida behind the chains
and force the quarterback into some mistakes while
finally getting hopefully some more consistent offensive production
as well.
The offense, I think, is going to be
under the microscope, no doubt.
You had a great defensive effort today.
You would think that Texas should be able
to get a home game against Florida.
Now, a couple of weeks ago, I think
we all thought this might be a little
bit of a tougher game.
I think with what we've seen recently, you
should be able to get this game.
Texas can still have a good season.
I think there's a lot of people doubting
a little bit right now, and rightfully so.
You lose one game, you probably got one
more loss that you can afford.
Not that you want to drop another game,
but I think you can probably afford one
more loss.
I think, though, you definitely didn't want to
lose the margin for error on a game
like this.
This is a game you could have won.
Appreciate all y'all hanging out.
I'll check comments one more time, and then
we are going to get on with the
rest of this Saturday.
Try to get on with it.
Man, Red River, always a painful L.
It hurts more.
I don't even know if it hurts more
than...
I think the A&M and the Red
River shootout, to me, equal levels of pain
if you lose those games.
Casual guy was good.
Defensive penalties were a killer.
I think maybe that's one thing you want
to see cleaned up a little bit on
defense, but the P.I. was a little
questionable before OU scored their first offensive touchdown.
P.I. was a little bit questionable.
Maybe if you're being real nitpicky with the
defense, the penalties, yeah.
All right.
Today told me Texas, they definitely have the
talent to compete with anybody, but the mistakes,
it's becoming too expensive.
The Longhorns today, they spent way too much
asking their defense to win this ball game
when they had opportunities to really put this
one out of reach on the offensive side.
Still unsure about Sark and the play calling.
Also, the offensive skills players and who is
going to step up and rise above.
I think you've got a lot of really
talented players.
Need a little bit more from all of
them, if we're being honest.
But maybe even bigger than all that, the
special teams.
You missed a field goal today and you
give up a punt block touchdown.
That's got to get figured out pretty immediately.
Next thing I'm watching, how does Texas respond
against Florida?
They're very much still alive in the SEC
and in the playoff conversation, but losing Red
River has to increase the urgency.
It just has to.
I'll check comments once more.
Nate, appreciate you.
Look, yes, the Stars, are they playing right
now?
What's the score of that Stars game right
now, by the way?
At least we've got a couple of teams
in the DFW area that have figured it
out.
Stars right now, let's see.
Where are they at?
Did they already win today?
I was so locked in on this game
today.
I'm not even going to lie to you
guys.
I'm going to have to watch the replay
on the Stars.
Good stuff.
Stars are 0-0 right now, at the
beginning of the second period.
Hey, good game, man.
If you're an OU fan hanging out, credit
to you guys.
Good game to you.
Obviously not the result we wanted, but good
game to you.
I don't think I'm getting up at 5am
for the Mavs game, ka-chow.
I'll watch the highlights on that one.
Look, there's one team you guys know that
I go all out for, and look, that
is the Texas Rangers.
We go all out for pretty much all
the teams we love, but if it was
a Rangers game, I might be getting up
at 5am.
I don't think I'm doing it for a
preseason Mavs game.
All right, y'all, appreciate you guys.
We will definitely be live later on in
the week.
Wednesday, we do our Rangers offseason show, and
then also we do a Cowboys show.
Cowboys are not back on until a week
from Monday, so we still got a while
before the next Cowboys live.
We will be live for the Texas-Florida
game next Saturday.
I believe that game—I'm going to look at
the scoreboard.
I thought I had got the time on
that one earlier, and I know sometimes they
end up flexing them, but it looks like
that game is going to be at 9am,
my time at least, so 11am in Texas.
So, an 11am ballgame.
We'll be live probably fourth quarter right after
that one is over, so I hope you
guys come out, hang out next week.
We absolutely will have a bunch of content
coming your way.
For all of you guys that have followed
today, thank you, and just know we cover
a number of other teams here right on
Rangers.
We cover the Rangers.
We cover the Stars.
We cover the Mavericks.
We cover the Cowboys.
There's a lot of different teams in the
mix, so you will probably see some different
content of different teams come across your page
here and there, come across your timeline.
Don't be surprised.
Drop a like.
Let the video play out for a few
more seconds than usual before you swipe on.
I would appreciate it, but we'll have some
Longhorns content out to you guys throughout this
week as well, mainly addressing what happened today,
what needs to happen next week.
Appreciate you guys.
Thank you for everybody that commented, helping to
keep the show fresh, and again, thank you
for everybody that subscribed, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, wherever
you're watching.
Very, very grateful.
We don't take any support of the show
for granted.
Not the result we wanted today, but you
still have the SEC.
You still have the playoff.
You still have everything in front of you.
Less margin for error, but you still control
your own destiny if you can win out
from here, even if you drop one more
game.
I think Texas has already built a decent
resume.
It's not a loss you want to take
today to an arch rival, but you've got
a couple of games and margins still left.
Can't lose three, but two probably something that
you can stomach.
So we'll see how Texas responds.
Florida, you would love to see the offense
have a much more complete game.
Appreciate all you guys.
Have a great rest of your Saturday.
Go enjoy some big matchups here.
We got Georgia, we got Alabama, 0-0
almost through the first quarter there.
Actually, just three to nothing.
Georgia just put three on the board here.
So that's the game I'm probably going to
go watch.
You guys enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Hope to see you soon.
As I always say, it's end every show.
God bless, and hook them.
