D.J. Rasmussen
Wanna again welcome you into the 4:05 coffee break, guys. Weekends coming. Get you a cup of coffee, glass iced tea, tall, cool glass of lemonade, whatever it is you'd like, and let's see what's happening. Spring wheat, $5.37 a bushel. 550 pounds steer calf, $4.10, just like the shotgun, $4 and 10 pennies per pound.
OK Solberg:A butcher hog in Iowa, 54ยข a pound, and a $1.80 is what you can get for a lamb that's fat when you take it to Billings. But guys, there's more, much more. Bible verse right up front, whatever you do, work heartily as for the Lord and not for men. Colossians 3-23.
OK Solberg:Baseball players work heartily with all their gusto. Did you know some even do it trying to honor our lord Jesus Christ? Here are three current baseball players all planned for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Orvin's team, all planned for the Los Angeles Dodgers who loved the Lord and put him first. Tommy Edmond, Clayton Kershaw, and Freddie Freeman. So baseball is our subject today. I haven't shared on it all week, so it's about time.
OK Solberg:Guys, you realize that the World Series starts in only sixty three more days? Yep. Sixty three days from today. Game one will happen on October 24. So let's look at what teams have a crack at it.
OK Solberg:So in the Major League Baseball format, there are two leagues. You know that. The American League and the National League. In the World Series, the top team from the American League matches up with the top team from the National League. That being said, then there cannot be a World Series game with the Baltimore Orioles pitted against the New York Yankees.
OK Solberg:Why? Because they're both in the American League. So there are two leagues, but in each league, there are three divisions. So there is the American League East, there is the Central Division, American League Central, and finally American League West Division. Got it?
OK Solberg:East, Central, and finally West. But the National League also has three divisions, and they are also east, central, and west. Now in each division, there are five teams. Got it? So the American League has 15 teams.
OK Solberg:Sure. Five in each division. Five, ten, 15. And likewise, the National League has 15 teams. So here's my question.
OK Solberg:So what's 15 plus 15? Why it's 30? So that means there's 30 total Major League Baseball teams. Can you name them all? So now which teams have a crack at showing up in the World Series this year on October 24?
OK Solberg:Starting with the American League, the Toronto Blue Jays are leading in the East Division, Toronto. Detroit Tigers are leading in the Central Division, and the Houston Astros are leading in the West. Now in the National League, we have the Philadelphia Phillies in lead for the East Division, Milwaukee brewers in the Central, and Orvin's Los Angeles dodgers lead the West by one game over the Padres. Then, of course, there'll be wildcard teams in the playoffs as well. Okay?
OK Solberg:Gonna be wildcard teams in the playoffs as well as the leaders from each division. So the playoff include the six division leaders, right, plus six wildcard teams, which are calculated by their win loss record. So I'm asking you, step up to the bar, boys. Who's it gonna be in the World Series this fall? Who's gonna be there?
OK Solberg:Right now, I'll step out on a limb, and I say, and on October 24 for the first game of the world series, it will be the Los Angeles Dodgers pitted against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Dodgers have won 72 games so far this season, but now Toronto has won 74. But remember, there's still 35 games apiece for each team to round out the regular season. I'll close with this baseball quote. Baseball is 90% mental, and the other half is physical. Yogi Berra.
OK Solberg:So until next time, as you go out there, remember now, don't be bitter.
Doc:Hey. Hi. Yeah. It's me, Doc. Did you miss me this morning?
Doc:Yeah. I didn't cover Frank this morning, but I'm here now. So let's buckle up and get ready. Shout out to all the ladies at Ezzie's. I know it's Friday, which means tonight is Friday night. Get ready for some fun tonight, and I have a special song just for you.
