The NDSU Extension weekly podcast In the Pod: Soybean Updates delivers timely insights and expert advice on soybean production.
You're listening to In The Pod, soybean updates, a weekly trek into the latest soybean information from NDSU Extension. Winter is right around the corner, giving farmers a break from fieldwork. Two words float to the top, professional development. There are many opportunities for further learning. Here with the latest is Ana Carcedo, NDSU Extension agronomist. Ana, what do farmers do during the winter?
Ana Carcedo:This is the moment most farmers just get to sit down, crunch some numbers, start thinking about what they're going to do next year. And, of course, Bruce, it's the moment that they get the opportunity to come to all our winter meetings that we organize in extension.
Bruce Sundeen:Tell us more about the winter meetings. What makes these meetings educational opportunities?
Ana Carcedo:Ah, for sure, Bruce. That's an excellent question. So just around the corner, we have getting it right soybeans, which is a webinar, which is actually great because you can do it from the comfort of your home, and it's completely free. It's, sponsored by the Soybean Council, and you get, CEO credits. So it's going to be December 3, and we have an amazing lineup. We have Frey Nolson talking about the the markets. We know that's the information that we want to know. We have Joe Eichley talking about how can we deal better with Waterhemp, Wade Webster talking about sclerotinia, and we are going to have Brady talking about how can you make fertilization package that actually makes sense in terms of economics. Then a little bit later in December with December 10 and December 11, we have the Prairie Grains Conference that's going to be in Grain Forks, and that's a huge conference where you can basically learn about whatever you wanted. See, I'm going to be there talking about a little bit budgets, agronomical practices that make sense in the finance world. Then if we move to January '78, we have the Lake Region extension roundup in Davis Lake. That's just an amazing extension meeting that you can go. And then lastly, I want to highlight in January, we January 28, we have the best of the best in the West in Minot. It's going to be in the Grand Hotel in Minot. And that's another amazing opportunity where you can learn more about soybean management, but more tailor it to the West side of the state.
Bruce Sundeen:Ana, how can people get more information about these events?
Ana Carcedo:Yes. For sure. You can find more about these events just googling, their names. So getting it right soybeans, that's, again, is just around the corner on December 3. You can just Google getting it right soybean and DSU, and then you're going to find all the information that you need. The same for Prairie Grains Conference, Lake Region Extension Roundup, and the best of the best. All these are available on in Internet.
