God doesn't want you to live a disturbed and uneasy life. That's just not the plan. And I know sometimes it's like, I've questioned up in like, God, why do you say don't worry? But then you give me all these things that are worrisome.
in my life. It's like, do not worry, inject worry, worry-filled situations, But the reason why he says that is because it's like, yeah, it's a problem for you to handle if you have to handle it by yourself. But I am telling you, I am here to handle the problem for you on your behalf. I'm your helper. Can you imagine? Like, think about that, y'all.
Hello and welcome back to Coffee with Dr. Kish. I'm so excited to talk to you guys about something God downloaded to me. And there are few times when I know that God has a pressing word that the enemy is essentially trying to cancel because of all of the roadblocks, barriers, attacks, things that happen in between. So I...
Thank you for joining me for this. I pray that as you listen and as God speaks to you through me and just through your spirit that you will receive everything he has for you. Okay. That he will personalize and customize this message so that it resonates with you that you receive what it is that he has for you to receive. So let's start first, Lord God, thank you so much for my sister, my brother who was joined today.
I don't know what's going on in their lives, but you know, you know exactly where they are. You know, if they're in their car listening, you know, if they are exercising, if they're doing some chores, if they're just going about their day, Lord God. And I just pray that you meet them right where they are right now, Lord God, that you will speak to them, that you will guide them, that you will help them to just for this moment, put aside every weight.
that so easily besets them Lord God, so that they can hear clearly from you and know that you are with them and that you care and that you are giving them instructions, divine instructions on how to lean on you, to depend on you, to trust in you. So thank you Lord, lead and guide me, have me to say what I need to say as I need to say it in Jesus name we pray, amen, love you. Okay, so.
This is the word y'all. It's about being content. Yes, difficult word to deliver because when I tell you that I have absolutely been in a space of discontentment at times, you know, just like, man, why is this happening? And why this way? And why to me? And, and, and, and, and, right? And
You know, you have words stored up in you. You know, when you read the Bible, word is deposited into your spirit. So even when you're speaking those things that are factual, but are not rooted in truth and the word and what God says, right? The facts can really be that, right? It's what you're going through. It's your circumstances, but what God says is the truth. And what he's saying
goes beyond what your factual situation is. Okay. So that supernatural reality gets placed upon your natural reality and changes the whole picture. And that's what we're here to do is to understand how that happens, how we play a part in making that happen and can truly rest in the Lord. Now this scripture came up and I think it will help to set the tone for what we're talking about here.
But it's Romans 12 to it says, don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. And that's Romans 12 to, and I believe that will help us to have the framework for this conversation.
is that we're not trying to model patterns of the world. We're not trying to even model patterns, our old patterns of behavior and thinking, right? Because as you think, you carry those things out by actions. So we are working on renewing our minds to hear what God has to say about a thing, as opposed to what our flesh says about a thing.
A friend may say about a thing, a family member may say about a thing. What does God have to say? Because that's what matters. And if we are saying that he's our Lord, then that means he is master of our lives. He controls our lives. We are giving our lives over to him. So that's the essence of what we're doing. And so it specifically says, and this is, if you want to follow along, if you are able to at the time is Hebrews 13.
And we're looking at verses five and six. says, keep your life free from love of money and be content with what you have. For he has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. So we can confidently say the Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me? Okay. So we are understanding that part of that contentment with what we have.
is knowing that he said he will never leave us nor forsake us. He has made it plain that when he says he will never leave us, that means he will never leave us without support. He will never leave us in a helpless state. When he says he won't forsake us, it's saying that he won't relax his hold on us, that he will continue to guide us, that he will continue to instruct us with his eye. So at no point in time will the Lord leave us.
that gives you an incredible sense of contentment if you really believe it. Now that's the caveat. Do you believe what was just said? And we've talked about this as a critical point of how we believe what we believe about the word, right? Because you know what the word says, but do you believe it? So this is lesson, renew our minds. Let me read it again and hear it.
like it is new to you, but it is how you're going to live your life. Once again, keep your life free from love of money and be content with what you have. For he has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. So we can confidently say the Lord is my helper. I will not fear what can man do to me.
Okay, so it's all related. That contentment, he's not just saying be content, but then he's not telling us why we're able to be content. He's saying be content because he will never leave us nor forsake us. So he's always with us. Our helper is with us. The Lord is my helper. The Lord is your helper. I will not fear. You will not fear. What can man do to me? What can man do to you?
What can man do to us? If the Lord is our helper and he's with us, he will never leave us. He will never forsake us. He will keep us. He will keep his hold on us. That's why we can be content. Now here's the rich part. We got to go into it because I know that when I read this and then reread it and you you ask God to help you to see new things, to read it with new eyes, to hear it with new ears. So that is
actually going to stick and stay. Okay. I'm going to read this passage and I want you to hear it clearly, but in order for that to happen, I have to give you this because God gave it to me and I know it was for you. So listen to this just a pre, I don't know what to even call it. Let's say a little interlude, a preface to what we're getting ready to talk about. And I started with a story.
Okay, so I was getting ready and I looked in the mirror and I noticed I was like, oh, this is kind of off, right? I'm like, I'm putting out, you know, occasionally sometimes I wear makeup, sometimes I don't whatever. Okay. But my eyebrows, I will like use a little eyebrow liner or whatever, try to line it Okay. Sometimes it's equal, sometimes it's not, sometimes it's what? Okay. That's what happens.
And what happened today, I look in the mirror, I see that it's off. I know that it's off. I even say, Whoa, that's off. Then I walk away from the mirror, go about doing other things, completely forgot that I saw what I saw. Then I happened to be standing in the mirror again and I was like, ⁓ yeah, I need to fix that. Okay. So listen to this. says, for if anyone only listens to the word
without obeying it, he is like a man who looks very carefully at his natural face in a mirror. For once he has looked at himself and gone away, he immediately forgets what he looked like. Okay. That's James 1 23 24. Okay. So God is letting us know, cause I felt so stupid, right? Like, cause I was like, you show me that Lord. And I didn't do anything about it at that moment. Right? I just walked away as if,
it was just going to naturally change. What God is calling us to do, all jokes aside, seriously, listen to this. He's basically saying, you know that I've shown you this thing. I'm going to show you this thing. When I reveal my word to you is me showing you a thing. It's showing you how your life may not align to what I'm telling you to do. Like my eyebrows weren't lining up right. Okay. He showed me that.
But if I walk away from it, I walk away from the mirror, I do nothing about it. I don't change anything. Okay, then now I got to go around looking cray cray. Okay. And that was on me because he showed me, but I didn't do anything about it. Well, that's what he's saying. When he shows us his word, when he reveals these things to us and then we don't obey it, we just hear it. We're heroes only, but not doers. Then we look crazy.
And then you're held accountable for this because you know, you heard, he told you he's trying to help you. And then you're crying out, Lord, why, why is this happening? Why am I overwhelmed? Why do I feel? And he's like, because you're not applying what I taught you. Like I revealed this thing to you, you heard it, but you're not doing it. Like you're still in these old patterns. You're still looking like how you were looking when you came to the mirror.
And the Bible is that for us, it's a mirror. It helps us to be able to see ourselves, right? Ourselves in the flesh. And it helps us to see the spirit of God, which is we're image bearers of Christ. That's who we're supposed to be reflecting. That's the image we should see. So let's get into this because it's really, really rich. It's so good. And I'm just grateful God is sharing it with us and I'm praying. That's why I had to share that verse with you guys, that when you hear this, that you'll be
hearing it, to just hear it, to do it, to put it into action. So listen with those ears of, okay, and how does this apply to me and my situation right now? And how does God want me to apply it to my life and to the lives of those around me? So here's the scripture passage. It says, if you want to read along, I'm reading Philippians four verses 11 through 13. And this is from Paul. Okay. Paul is talking here. He says, not that I speak,
from any personal need, for I have learned to be content and self-sufficient through Christ, satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or uneasy, regardless of my circumstances. I know how to get along and live humbly in difficult times. And I also know how to enjoy abundance and live in prosperity.
In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing life, whether well fed or going hungry, whether having an abundance or being in need. I can do all things which he has called me to do through him who strengthens and empowers me. He fulfills his purpose. I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency. I am ready for anything.
and equal to anything through him who infuses me with inner strength and confidence, peace." That's Philippians 4, 11 through 13. Yes, I know that was a mouthful. That was a lot. And it's all true. And it's all for us to take in and receive. So how, one might ask, how? How did Paul get to this place of contentment? Okay.
And I'm thinking that this session will be titled the secret of facing life because he mentioned that the secret of facing life. talked about being confident and content and Christ's efficiency, what he brings into his life, what he infuses him with, with the strength and power and peace, right? Having confident peace, but
Let's back up a little bit and realize that in that beginning sentence, he said, not that I speak from any personal need for, have learned to be content. Okay. So the first thing I'm picking up there, and you may have another take on this, but it's that learning to be content means that it's a process. may not be something that you get immediately.
but you can renew your mind in a way that you can learn to be content. So if we're renewing our mind, we're thinking, okay, what does that look like? If I'm not content, I have discontentment in my spirit. That means that I am not feeling whatever's happening in my life at that point in time. I'm not content because there's a thing, a need, a desire.
that's going unfulfilled. And I want that thing to be fulfilled. I want that gap to be closed. So that discontentment is based on a thing, is based on a person, is based on a feeling, is based on a circumstance. But when we think about all that God teaches us about His word, is that when we rejoice in Him, then we have
joy that remains, right? The joy of the Lord is our strength, not the joy of our situation, not the joy of our partner, not the joy of our kids, not the joy of our work. The joy of the Lord is our strength. And so when we flip that and understand that the contentment draws from the well of Jesus, that never runs dry. Woo, Jesus, hallelujah.
then we know that we are getting what we need on a daily basis. We can be content because we're looking to the author and the finisher of our faith. We're looking to Jesus, the ultimate provider. Okay. We are not concerned about a thing because we know that God is with us. Remember we read Hebrews 13, five and six where it he will never leave us nor forsake us that he is our helper. He is our helper. So we don't have to fear. What can man do to us?
Okay. That's what it's saying is basically saying it doesn't matter what circumstance you're bumping up against a person you may be bumping up against a situation, situation ship, whatever it is. God is your helper. He's your Lord. He is your master. He has a purpose and a plan for you even in this. Okay. Even in this season, even while you're trying to figure out why and what and how
He's with you. He's with us. And I'm right with you. Okay. I'm not saying this from a seat of I'm on the other side and it's all figured out and done and I'm good. And now I understand. No, I'm struggling myself, but I, I, I'm learning that, like he said, learning to be content, right? Learning that guy. God's got it. I don't even understand it. I can't make sense of it right now. I can't call it, but God's got it.
So he's got you, he's got your situation under control. Even if you feel like your life is spiraling out of control, he's got it and he's got you. Let's learn that. Let's renew our minds and remember that. Because if you've grown to become accustomed with your false sense of control, right? Like we think we're controlling things. We think that we can make a certain thing happen and it happens just like that. No, we're not in control of everything.
Like I'm actually doing this podcast, vodcast, you will, from ⁓ another location now, right? Like I'm not at the studio because it was all these, you know, the studio's booked and blah, blah, blah, and all these things. And it's just like, okay, well, maybe I need to do it another day. God was like, no, you need to do it today. Okay, so I'm doing it from the house. Here we are. Okay, so my point is that God is in control. We are not.
things happen, things change, things shift. And we have to just stay in the pocket with the Lord, stay with Him. Because as these things are swirling, if your footing is secure because you are standing on Him and His word, then it doesn't matter what's happening around you. But if you are standing on things that can change at any minute, you're standing on relationships, you're standing on work, you're standing on...
desire to have a thing happen and in that thing shifts or like it changes some kind of way and then your whole world is rocked. Okay, that is not where God wants us to be. That's why he's like come here darling. Come come come come son daughter come come close. I need you with me. Things are going to get rocky. It's going to get crazy and I need you to know that you're not crazy and that you are with me.
And when you're with me, you're okay, because I'm your helper and I will help you through this. Okay. So that's one element that I know just jumped off the pages to me is that you learn this thing. You learn to be content because you're renewing your mind, which means you're studying your word. You're studying God. You're looking at him in your everyday life and your understanding when God is showing up, you're showing gratitude for the things.
that he's doing in your life. says he daily loads our lives with blessings, with benefits. So you're looking for God every day. Look for God every day. Okay. I know we're coming up on Thanksgiving and a lot of times people get caught up in the, you know.
I don't know, just all of the antics around holidays, right? Like just anxiety around who you're going to have Thanksgiving with, who you're going to invite over, whose house you're going to go over. Are you cooking? Are they cooking? Are we cooking? All You know, just all of the stuff. And then like, I don't like how this person looked at me last time and what they said. And then I've got to get ready for that. And it's like all this emotional baggage and
all the things, even as a Christian, right? Like even as you know, you're supposed to walk in joy and love and peace and all these things, but it's also like, and we're still human and we still have real issues and traumas that we're recovering from and healing through. And God wants you to know he's your helper. Do not approach another day, another holiday.
with the same attitude that you had before. Let's just stop it right now. Okay, let's just say we're not doing it. Like just recently I had an obligation for work, had to do a presentation. I don't know what it is. I will say it's probably the enemy more than likely, right? This just desire to just keep you in this.
anxious place about like, ⁓ what if I don't say the right thing or communicate the right way because I have all these things swirling in my head and I want to be able to be present and focused and yada yada yada yada. Okay. Well then it all starts to build into this like pool of anxiety that the enemy wants you to swim in and drown in. Okay. But what God says, he can flip the whole script and just literally just, he invited me.
as he often does. I heard the invitation, the whisper, and I decided to join him. Okay. The invitation was, let all of that go. Let all of the anxiety go. Let it roll away. Come close to me. Know that I am with you. Be in the moment. Let me guide your words. Don't feel like you have to be scripted. Okay. And I'm talking about not just
a presentation. I'm talking about life. There's no, you don't have to be scripted in this thing. In fact, who asked you to write a script? Nobody. Okay. Like this is you walking with God. This is you saying, Lord, you have a purpose for my life. Let's go to that part in the scripture where it specifically says that we're to fulfill his purpose.
And I was reading from the Amplified version, but this is Philippians 4 verses 11 through 13. And it says, through Him who strengthens and empowers me to fulfill His purpose, I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency. I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.
Okay, so if you start feeling like, man, you know, like you feel the heaviness, the weight of a thing, whatever that is, right? I'm talking about a presentation. can be about a ⁓ doctor's visit, a diagnosis. It could be about an interview. It could be about a talk that you need to have with a loved one. It could be anything, whatever that thing is, is weighing you down, trying to pull at your spirit, trying to rob you of your peace and your joy.
Lay that thing down at God's lay it at his feet and say, I can't carry this thing. I don't think you even want me to carry this thing. You're aware of it. I'm aware of it. And I'm laying it down and I want to walk with you, Lord. I'll walk into this fire with you. Like, I don't even know what it's going to look like, but I'll walk into it with you and I will trust you because we start to imagine what we think a thing is going to be. And sometimes it's that and sometimes it's not, but
nine times out of 10 is not what we even think it's going to be. And God is welcoming us into a new reality of trusting Him in all things, right? Trusting that all the things that you're worried about. And let's reshift that even, okay? The enemy will show you a thing for you to worry about it, for you to have fear attached to the thing.
Let's reframe it and say, God, thank you for sharing this with me, showing me what could potentially happen. I know the enemy meant it for bad, but it's for good. And thank you Lord, that I'm going to not join the enemy in his tactics of being scared about this thing or anxious about this thing happening, but I'm going to pray against it. In fact, I'm going to pray for the exact opposite thing to happen. Right.
So if I'm concerned that, I'm not going to connect with people. They're not going to understand what I'm trying to say. They're going to be reticent to move forward with the things that I'm trying to get them to move forward with. Okay. And encourage them to do instead. I'm going to pray against that. And I'm going to say, Lord, thank you that the hearts of those that are in the room, the minds of those that are in the room are already going to be prepared to receive what I have to say.
that it will move us toward the goals that you have in mind, the purpose that you want me to fulfill, us to fulfill on this, with this initiative, right? Like that's flipping it. That's what God wants us to do. And I've learned, I learned this, right? It's a learning. When I was younger, so I used to have dreams slash nightmares, right? About things. And then it has also happened with some of my sons.
And I was able to teach them what God taught me, which is don't be afraid of that thing that came to you. And now we're going to fight against it, right? Instead of joining on the side of fear and thinking the thing is actually going to happen. And I'm not saying it won't happen. Sometimes God is revealing something that's heavy or weighty or kind of breeds a little fear in us. But what we're still called to do is to pray.
about that thing, to pray about what we saw, pray about the people who were involved in that dream or nightmare and believe God for His purpose to be fulfilled. Okay? That completely shifts everything because you're no longer drawn into this pool of anxiety and just this heaviness that you can't do anything with anyway. Okay? So God wants us to be there.
He's saying get with me because I am your helper. And if you're not allowing me to help, then you're to feel helpless. Although you're not, you're going to feel that way because you aren't aware of that your help is there. You don't even know that it's available. Okay. Your help is there and you don't know it because you don't have the volume turned up, right? You don't have your connection ready to receive.
And I talk a lot about navigation systems and things like that because I travel a lot and there can be a navigation system ready with the destination has all of the directions ready to take you to your next destination. But if you don't have it turned on up, you know, where you can actually hear it, you're still not going to know where you're going. Okay. So God is there. The helper is there. The spirit of the living God is in us. He's with us.
But if our connection is off and we're so distracted because we're using so much of our time for all these things that draw us away from him, it's going to be very difficult to hear his voice at any given moment. So that's another element of what he's sharing with us, that we learn to be content when we realize that Christ is our helper, that Jesus wants to lead in God.
and that we can be satisfied in him and not in our circumstances. It specifically says satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or uneasy, regardless of my circumstances. Okay. Regardless, not irregardless, regardless of my circumstances, I am not disturbed or uneasy. Listen, I'm sorry. Like I just,
sometimes just talking and not having a response is annoying because I need to make sure that you hear that. I want you to know that God doesn't want you to live a disturbed and uneasy life. That's just not the plan. And I know sometimes it's like, I've questioned up in like, God, why do you say don't worry? But then you give me all these things that are worrisome.
in my life. It's like, do not worry, inject worry, worry-filled situations, right? But the reason why he says that is because it's like, yeah, it's a problem for you to handle if you have to handle it by yourself. But I am telling you, I am here to handle the problem for you on your behalf. I'm your helper. Can you imagine? Like, think about that, y'all. You have an assistant, you have a
co-director, you have just a partner. I'm just talking in like real world application, like not like a, a tangible person that you see who's like, this is your assistant. Their name is, you know, Geneva or Jerry, whatever you, okay. It's a person. Now imagine that this person comes with all of the knowledge that
is God, right? This person is omniscient, they're omnipotent, and they're omnipresent. Just imagine that. And that's what he's saying. He's saying, I'm your helper. And I'm that. I know everything. I can be anywhere at all times and all places at all times. I have all power and I'm your helper.
Listen, seriously, I think sometimes we just don't get it. Like we're, we're constantly in this space of thinking that what we see is all to be seen, that we're not understanding that when God says he's our helper, he for real is our helper. When he says he's with us and will never leave us, he is for real with us and will never leave us. But because we don't see him, like we don't actually see the Lord with us. We think he's not with us.
or we don't see him actually helping us. like, well, he's not helping. God is with you friend. Know that Lord help us renew our minds, help us to see you, to feel you, to know you. Okay. That even when we don't see you in bodily form, that you are with us, that you're helping us, that you are guiding us, that you are providing a way out, that you are providing a way in.
that you are leading us and guiding us, Lord God, and that you do use your people, you do use your angels. And that is what we can rely on is knowing that you are with us. You will never leave us. You will never forsake us. You will never relax your hold on us. You have got us, which means you got it. You've got everything concerning us. That's, that's what we hold on to. And to just wrap us up here, because it's so rich, like I really,
There's so much like you, it's one of those passages where you literally just highlight the whole thing. And of course the whole Bible is that way, but I want you to go back and read that passage again, Philippians four 11 through 13. And to close this out, I'll read it one more time. And then I'm just going to share some note, my notes, like some of my takeaways, but I want you to study it because I know God's going to say something very specific to you if he hasn't already. So.
Let's read it one more time. says, not that I speak from any personal need, for I have learned to be content and self-sufficient through Christ, satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or uneasy. Regardless of my circumstances, I know how to get along and live humbly in difficult times.
And I also know how to enjoy abundance and live in prosperity in any and every circumstance. have learned the secret of facing life, whether well-fed or going hungry, whether having an abundance or being in need, I can do all things which he has called me to do through him who strengthens and empowers me to fulfill his purpose. am self sufficient in Christ's efficiency.
I am ready for anything and equal to anything through him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace. My God, my God, my God. Thank you, Lord. Feel this word in our hearts, Lord. Hallelujah. So these were a few notes that I took. Number one, learn to be content. Number two, self-sufficient through Christ's sufficiency. Okay.
can do all things because Christ is with me. He's in me. That's why. Number three, I am satisfied in Him, which means I can be undisturbed. I can walk with ease. I can be unbothered because I'm satisfied in Him. Number four, enjoy abundance. Live in prosperity. When you have it, enjoy it.
The Lord has given it to you for a purpose. Enjoy it. Number five, do it through him. It in quotation marks, whatever that it is, do it through him. You got a presentation, you concerned about how it's going to go. Do it through him. You have an interview, you're concerned about what's on the other side of it. Do it through him. You need to go to the doctor. You're not concerned about, I mean, you are concerned and you don't know.
what the diagnosis is going to be. Go do it through him. He's with you. He's not going to leave you alone. He's with you. Okay. And then number six, be ⁓
Content.
I believe it says something else. Yes. Be strengthened. Couldn't read my writing. Sorry guys. Okay. Be strengthened. Be strengthened. It says that he will infuse us with inner strength and competent peace. So be strengthened and be able to walk in peace. Okay. That's number seven to walk in peace. And then our last one here is to just stand.
boldly for the Lord. Just stand boldly because he's giving, given you this element of learning how to be content. So you're not on this like wave of sometimes I'm good enough to pour into other people's lives, but sometimes I'm not because I'm concerned about what's happening in my life and I don't know if God's going to come through for me. So I just, you know, go back into my little, you know, shell. No.
Stand boldly because you have the helper of all helpers with you. You have the omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, all loving, all knowing, all powerful God with you. So walk in boldness and know that he loves you. And I'm going to leave you with a special prayer and...
I'll show the book for those who are able to see this and if not, I'm giving you the title and the author here is my friend Dee Kojenko and the book is called The Affections of My Soul, a Journal for Intimate Prayer.
