What is Life at Dead Cat Ranch?

Life at Dead Cat Ranch the Podcast

Welcome, y'all, we're Dead Cat Ranch, a twelve hundred acre family getaway nestled in the beautiful landscape of East Texas. Here, we believe in exceptional hospitality, real connection, and helping folks recharge and find a fresh perspective. So sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and let's relax, play, and stay a while.

Good morning, good afternoon, wherever you're listening from today. I want to talk about something I get asked about every single year around this time, and that's whether Labor Day weekend is worth the trip. My honest answer, y'all, is that it might just be the sweetest little pocket on the whole calendar for a family escape.

Here's why I love it so much. Summer is winding down, the kids are settling back into school, and everybody's a little worn out from the go, go, go of the season. Labor Day gives you one last long weekend to breathe before fall picks up speed.

And out here in East Texas, that weekend hits different. The days are still warm enough for the pool and the hot tub, still long enough for a full afternoon on the water with a fishing pole in hand. But you can already feel that first whisper of fall coming, and there's something about that in between season that makes everything feel a little more precious.

Now, if you've been searching around trying to figure out the best place to stay when you come our way, I want to make this easy for you. We built Dead Cat Ranch to be exactly that kind of place, a spot where a whole family, or a whole crew of friends, can spread out and actually be together.

We've got a bunkhouse that sleeps twenty, which is perfect for reunions or a big group of cousins who haven't all been under one roof in years. We've also got Airstream lodging for folks who want something cozier and a little more tucked away. Either way, you're on twelve hundred acres, and you've got room to roam.

The reason people keep coming back isn't just the beds, though. It's the mornings out here, when the coffee's hot and the light comes up slow over the land, and nobody's in a hurry to be anywhere. Sunsets are best enjoyed from a rocking chair, and I promise you'll understand exactly what I mean the first evening you're here.

Let me tell you what a Labor Day weekend can actually look like on the ranch. You might spend the morning fishing, the afternoon on the ATV trails or throwing axes, and the evening around a fire with the little ones begging for one more s'more. That's the whole idea behind what we call relax, play, stay.

For families with kids of all ages, that mix matters. The teenagers can do the target shooting or the trails, the little ones can love on our Labradors, Skye and Sadie, and the grownups can finally sit still for five minutes. You don't have to load everybody up and drive somewhere different for every activity, because it's all right here on the property.

This land means the world to me, and I think that's part of what folks feel when they come. It was originally my dad's ranch, a man who cherished his time here, and I built this to honor him and to share the beauty of this place with people who need a break. Watching families reconnect on ground that meant so much to him, well, that's the whole reason I keep at it.

If you're wondering when to book, my honest advice is don't wait too long. Labor Day is one of our most popular weekends because it's that last big hurrah before the school year swallows everybody's schedule. Groups tend to grab it early, so the sooner you reach out, the better we can take care of you.

And I want you to leave here feeling like it was worth it, carrying home a renewed perspective and a little more space in your heart than you came with. That's not a small thing, y'all, and it's exactly what we hope every single guest experiences. Success for us has always been about the impact we get to have on the people who trust us with their weekend.

So if you've been looking for the right place to gather your family and slow down for a few days, come see us. Gather your friends and family for a weekend of relaxation and fun in nature, because the trails are waiting.

Thank you for your time, sincerely, we've loved having you with us today. When you're ready to escape the everyday and reconnect with the people who matter most, come see us at dead cat ranch t x dot com, or give us a call at nine zero three, three seven two, zero seven two eight.
