Speaker 2:And good morning, Juno KINY, eight hundred and ninety four point nine FM. Happy Friday, y'all. It's crazy to think it's already Friday. Hope you're having a good day so far and gearing up for a full weekend. I'm Justin Miller joining you.
Speaker 2:I'm filling in for Nano Brooks today. It's been a while since I've been on the program, I think back before we even had our phone line set up, so I was glad to be back on the airways with y'all. If you have anything you wanna say, sell, or get off your chest, feel free to give me a call. (907) 586-1800, or you can shoot a text message that same number, 586-1800, if you have things you wanna get on the program. I was kinda queuing up some ideas.
Speaker 2:I know we're all kinda been hit with the glacier outburst flood information, but wanted to send a friendly reminder out there to make sure you are all set up and prepared. You have a go bag, your sign up for emergency alerts, and all that stuff. So if you need information, you could get that at juno.org, or they actually have an independent page as well, which is junoflood.org. There's a lot of information on there as well. We had the folks come on Capital Chat earlier this week and kinda talking about making sure you're signed up for all the emergency alerts, so make sure you get online and have all the information under you.
Speaker 2:And what else is on the docket today? Looking into the weekend. We got a lot of stuff happening here in the capital city. I know we got the Juno Marathon happening over the weekend over at Douglas, so hopefully you've signed up well in advance for the Juno Marathon. I know that's a huge event here in Juno.
Speaker 2:It's very exciting too that this year for the Juno Marathon is also a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon. So if you do really, really well in the Juno Marathon, have a chance to swing on over to Boston and run that race. I know that's a huge, huge marathon that goes on over there. Also, folks, if you did not know, it's the month of play with parks and recreation. There's been so many different events.
Speaker 2:Hopefully, you've taken advantage of all the free events going on with the month of play. This weekend, they're gonna be doing a free swim at Diamond Park Aquatic Center. Sadly, I don't have the time for that right in front me, but if you need to find that out, you could get that also at juno.org/parksandrec. Phone lines are open, folks. If you wanna give me a call, (907) 586-1800.
Speaker 2:I could look into the past and see what's been thrown in here. And they've kinda been out of the loop as far as Problem Corner goes. Oh, we got a call. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner.
Speaker 2:You're live and on the air.
Speaker 3:Hello. I have a Vacmaster. It's a wet dry vac, five gallon, five and a half horsepower asking 40. I only use it a minute, but I'm not I don't need it anymore.
Speaker 2:Okay. This is a wet vacuum. Five gallons, you said, or four gallons?
Speaker 3:Five five and a half gallon.
Speaker 2:Five and a half. And are you just trying to give that away or what to sell? Asking 40. Perfect.
Speaker 3:40. I'll take 30 to get rid of it.
Speaker 2:40 or best offer. What's a good phone number?
Speaker 3:I'm at 907
Speaker 2:Cool.
Speaker 3:419-3779.
Speaker 2:3779. Perfect. I will throw that out over the program and see if we can get that wet vac off your hands.
Speaker 3:Thanks.
Speaker 2:No problem. You have a good rest of your Friday, and have a good weekend.
Speaker 3:Alright. You too.
Speaker 2:Alright. Bye bye. Uh-huh. Alright. (907) 419-3779 for that wet vacuum if you're interested in that.
Speaker 2:I almost feel like we're already out of garage sale season. Just almost. I I remember a couple weeks ago, there was, like just driving around the valley, I saw, like, six or eight garage sale signs. So, definitely, folks are still in that realm. So if you have a garage sale coming up or any items you wanna get off your hands, definitely shoot it my way, and I'll do my best to get it off your hands.
Speaker 2:Also, looking out down in the events page, so month of play going on. So that's going on this weekend. So if you wanna bring a child or even yourself over to Diamond Park Fieldhouse, there's a not Diamond Park Fieldhouse, Diamond Park Aquatic Center, swing on over there for that free swim this weekend. Also, we have the duck derby that is going on very, very soon. That happens always at Twin Lakes on August 22.
Speaker 2:There's gonna be a time donuts for ducks is happening on July 31. So if you wanna be part of the duck derby this year, swing on over here at the Mendenhall Mall, July 31 from, I believe, it's seven to nine. Yes. It's seven to nine. Get yourself that duck, and you have a chance to win some awesome prizes.
Speaker 2:There's a lot of there's actually a lot of raffles going on. I know the Juno Chamber of Commerce has their travel raffle going on as well. I think they still have a bunch of tickets left. So if you're one wanna potentially win some cash or even just some travel, then definitely get on over to the Juneau Chamber of Commerce's website to figure out how to get yourself a ticket. And there are webcams going on with the the glacier outburst flood, so make sure you guys are updated with those and just kinda watch.
Speaker 2:Now we're still a week or so out a couple weeks out until we might see some water flow. So just make sure I can't stress enough. Make sure you are prepared. You got your sandbags set up. If you have if you need some assistance or need some heavy lifting done, I'm more than happy to help get you connected up with someone to get some sandbags placed or even some waterproofing around your property if you need that this year.
Speaker 2:And what else we got? Oh, yes. I had the pleasure of sitting down with these folks over on Capital Chat. Oh, we got a phone. I'll come back to that.
Speaker 2:Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 4:Yeah. How are you doing today?
Speaker 2:I'm not doing too bad. How are you today?
Speaker 4:Well, I'm trying to get rid of a couple stuff. I have a little AMFM portable radio. You can play CDs on it.
Speaker 2:Oh, cool.
Speaker 4:And that carries six c batteries. And it's an excellent shape. I just don't need it. And I have miscellaneous tools, I have a fishing pole. For any information they can call (907) 713-5568.
Speaker 4:Thank you for your program.
Speaker 2:Of course. Thank you for calling in with your items. I'll see if I could get that stuff off your hands. Alright. Again, that number is (907) 713-5568.
Speaker 2:If you're interested in a portable radio CD player, he's got some tools and a fishing rod. So I'll throw that number out again throughout the program. Going back to what I was just about to say, we there's an event going on, the Juno tent revival, which is being brought to you by Northland Baptist Church. So that's last day for that is going on today. So if you're interested in joining in on that, they're meeting up just a little bit past Swampy Acres right there.
Speaker 2:I don't have the address in front of me, but I believe they're doing another feed today in a service. So if you're interested in joining in on that, that's starting at 05:30 over past Swampy Acres. There's gonna be big blue and white tent from what I was told, so it's easy to find. Today's the last day for that. So if you've been joining in so far in that event, then right on.
Speaker 2:But if you're interested in checking it out, definitely pop on over there today, 05:30, for a free meal and a service. I've kind of been out of the loop of Problem Corner. What are the topics you guys been throwing out there? I do have another call, though. Hi.
Speaker 2:Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 5:Yes. Hi.
Speaker 2:Hi there.
Speaker 5:Let me go to the other room because I can't you can't hear me if the radio is on.
Speaker 2:Got a little Right now, you're okay. I'm not getting a delay or feedback from you.
Speaker 5:You're not getting the delay?
Speaker 2:No. You're okay. Anyway,
Speaker 5:was a crew member who had g scale trained. He's a collector. And he told me if I wanted to get my g scales, then to call him, but I never did get his phone number or anything like that. So what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna give him Mary Gautier number. And so if he's out there or I don't know.
Speaker 5:He might not even listen to Problem Corner. But the number is (907) 723-9710.
Speaker 2:9710. And remind me again what exactly you're gonna look for. You said it was a g scale train, like a model train?
Speaker 5:Yeah. It's a model train, g scale. It's a big train.
Speaker 2:Oh, okay.
Speaker 5:And I, you know, I plan to move, and I'm not gonna be able to take it with me. And so if he can call Mary, then then we'll be able to con I'll be able to contact him.
Speaker 2:You said this might be, like, a crew member on a cruise ship or a crew member here in town?
Speaker 5:No. No. He works for Alaska Marine Highway just like I did. I'm retired. So anyway.
Speaker 2:Alright, Mary. While I got your number down, I'll see if I could get that gentleman or person to give you a call. Again, that's (907) 723-9710.
Speaker 5:Yeah. Okay. Thank you.
Speaker 2:No problem. Thanks for the call. Have a good rest of your Friday.
Speaker 5:Okey dokey. Bye bye.
Speaker 2:Alrighty. Bye bye. Alright. I did get a couple text messages in. This person's saying, noticed a lot of small creeks in the valley are dried up.
Speaker 2:Is that a result of the Hesco barriers? It's very possible, but also I'm not sure. Probably, obviously, if it's within that area and it doesn't allow the river or any of the lake water to kinda trickle down, that might be the reason. There's so many small creeks surrounding the Menahall Valley, so that's definitely a possibility. It has I know it's kinda rained a little bit this week, but for the most part, it's been pretty dry, so maybe the ground's just been dry enough that it's absorbing any rainfall.
Speaker 2:Hopefully, that answers a question, but, yeah, I'm not a 100% sure on that. And then I got another text message. Saint Vincent de Paul is having their whale watching this weekend. They're confused about what day or times. Let's find out for that real quick.
Speaker 2:Maybe it's on their website, maybe it's not, but we could take a look. Yeah. I would there's so many outfits that do the whale watching trips, which is really cool. It's a great fundraiser and just a great opportunity to get out of the house and see some local wildlife. And let's see.
Speaker 2:There it is. This Internet's taking forever to load. But and as I it's queuing up and loading, I'll try to find that answer for you and get you hooked up with when that's going on. And in other news, we got oh, I found the I found the answer to the free aquatics one more time that is. So session one will be 12:30 to 2PM, and then session two will be from 02:30 to 4PM.
Speaker 2:There will be wrist banding. It'll begin thirty minutes before each session, and maximum capacity is a 150 swimmers. So if you're interested in joining in on the free swim this weekend at Diamond Park Pool, then swing on over there. Man, this will this event page does not wanna load for Saint Vincent de Paul. Oh, there it is.
Speaker 2:I found it. I found it for you. Alright, listener. For the text message for the Saint Vincent de Paul, if you're still listening, that is going on July 26, 04:30 check-in, 5PM departure, and then 8PM return. You could go to Saint Vincent de Paul's website to reserve your spot.
Speaker 2:That is svdpjuno.org. Svdpjuno.org if you wanna sign up for the whale watching fundraiser. It's all for a great cause to help keeping Saint Vincent de Paul's doors open and operating efficiently. Okay. New emails.
Speaker 2:Let's see if any new emails have came in. Take a look at yesterday's, see if there's any of those missed. I feel like Katie probably addressed some of these yesterday, so I will come back to that. It is 11:23. If you guys have anything you wanna throw out there, feel free to give me a call, text, or if you don't wanna type it all out, I can also do voice mail or, like, voice messages.
Speaker 2:So if you know how to send, like, a voice message instead of a text through your phone, I could also play that over the air ways if you'd rather not have to type out a whole text or call in. Totally up to you. There's so many different avenues to get into Problem Corner nowadays, which is really cool to have. We got emails. You can send an email at air@kinyradio.com, text message, call.
Speaker 2:It's really cool. So if you're a little introverted, you don't wanna talk on the phone over the airways, text is a great option as well. We did get another email. Let's take a look at this. Does anyone on Radioline know who removes Freon from old refrigerators and certifies before I could deliver them to Skookum?
Speaker 2:I yes. I don't know the answer, but let's throw it out into Radioline. If you know of someone who works with Freon from old refrigerators and is certified so they could deliver it to Skookum. You could give this person a call at (907) 789-4263. That's (907) 789-4263 if you have an answer for that.
Speaker 2:I did have a refrigeration buddy in town. I always forget the business' name, so feel free to reach out to this person. Let's see. Got another text message. Who does small engine repairs or fixes?
Speaker 2:Snow blowers, lawn mowers, etcetera. So if you know of someone that knows how to fix small engines, like snow blowers, lawn mowers, and such, You could give this you could call into the program. We get you linked up. I do have the number in front of me. So if you wanna get this person I don't know if you're reaching out to someone or you just wanna get information out.
Speaker 2:So, feel free to give me a call or shoot me a text message saying that you're willing to work on small engines, and I'll throw your information out there in the airwaves. Another text message, a huge garage sale and shop sale, which is at 10008 Crazy Horse Drive from ten to three tomorrow. It's the red condo behind the old Color view. So huge garage sale, not really shop, so there's probably gonna be a lot of different tools, items, and stuff over there. I know it's Industrial Boulevard, Crazy Horse Drive, that same area.
Speaker 2:So a lot of shops are back there. Again, it's at the red condo behind Old Color View. And let's see. As we have a few minutes before we take our first ABC in commercial break, real recap of the few calls that we've gotten so far. We had the wet vacuum that's five and a half gallons asking for you or best offer.
Speaker 2:You give them a call at (907) 419-3779. And then we had the portable FM AM radio with a CD player and a bunch of tools and a fishing rod. If you're interested in any of those, could call (907) 713-5568. And then our caller, Mary, who once again touched with the person that was interested in that g scale train model, or maybe if you wanna if you're a local wanna jump in and snag that up from her, the number is called or the number is (907) 723-9710. Alright.
Speaker 2:I do wanna get these folks linked up for the Freon removal from old refrigerators as certified or the person that could work on small engine repairs like snow blowers, lawn mowers, and etcetera. So if you have information regarding any of those or wanna give a call and throw out your services or your knowledge of someone, you can more than call in, and I could get you linked up with that. Alright. I'll be right back with more Problem Corner after this ABC News and commercial break here on KINY.

Speaker 17:We wouldn't be celebrating America two fifty if it wasn't for a strong foundation set by the framers. Hamilton built America's financial foundation on sound money, later embodied by the gold standard. But we abandoned that discipline in 1971 and have seen inflation erode the dollar's value. What's the foundation of your savings? Is a gold or something that can be devalued?
Speaker 17:Hi, it's Doctor. Ron Paul, and I encourage you to speak with my friends at Birch Gold Group about diversifying an existing IRA or four zero one ks into a tax sheltered IRA in gold. Speaker 1:Now back to Problem Corner where our community meets to talk, trade, share.
Speaker 2:And welcome back to the program here on KINY. Happy Friday, y'all. I'm Jess Miller filling in for Nano Brooks today. Hope you're having a good day so far. It's definitely gearing up for the weekend.
Speaker 2:Think I just looking out the window, it's kinda nice getting nice out. So, hopefully, the weather holds, and we have a good weekend. I've I've kinda stopped looking at the weather report nowadays. Just kind of live each day just looking out the windows. Like, okay.
Speaker 2:It's gonna be a good one today. Whatever you guys wanna say, you sell or get out there. You call (907) 586-1800. Sorry. I did see a couple calls come through during the break, so give me a callback if you wanna get on the program, or you could shoot me a text message.
Speaker 2:Same number. Oh, we got a call. Let's go for it. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner.
Speaker 2:You're live and on the air.
Speaker 5:Hello. This is hey. I'm calling because I had a call from 209 number, and they're trying to say that they're from the police department, and we need donations. I thought, like, you know, it was a scam on that.
Speaker 2:That definitely sounds like a scam. I don't feel like JPD would be calling folks for donations
Speaker 18:like that.
Speaker 5:JPD never calls about, you know, owing money or something.
Speaker 2:Right. Yeah. It sounds like you got got a scam.
Speaker 5:I started bringing it out there to you guys.
Speaker 2:I appreciate that. Yeah. Definitely any we always like hearing different scam approaches and making sure the community is aware to just be aware of those kind of things. So I appreciate you calling in and making us know that people that someone's impersonating JPDS.
Speaker 5:You are. You have a good day.
Speaker 2:You as well. Thanks for the
Speaker 18:call. Alright.
Speaker 5:Bye.
Speaker 2:Bye bye. Yes. Scams are in heavy force. I've been getting a lot of them on my phone. But, honestly, with a lot of newer with smartphones nowadays, they kinda scan it.
Speaker 2:And it's like, oh, this is a potential scam call or a political call. So but not everyone's phone tells you that, so just be aware of that. Obviously, JPD is not gonna be calling individuals asking for donations. If they do need money, it's usually a so it's like a really organized fundraiser of any sort of thing or even not a fundraiser for JPD. It's always for other causes.
Speaker 2:So just be mindful if you ever come across a spam or something that you're not too sure and you just wanna make the community aware, give us a call. And I did get another text message over the break. I know so we do have a promotion going on. It's Fly Me To Taku going on. It was a chance for two people to go fly over to Taco Lodge courtesy of Wings Airways.
Speaker 2:I believe you could call enter as many times as you want. I don't know if it adds up to your qualifying, but, yeah, just keep sending that word taco as many times as you want, and we do have a call. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 19:Oh, thanks. Yeah. I'm glad you were talking about scams. I don't know if you know it, but the Department of Justice and well, it's basically the Republicans. They've defunded the in the Department of Justice fraud division.
Speaker 19:And they're even now talking about taking apart the cryptocurrency fraud division. Oh, wow. People look at those cryptocurrencies as fraud just in themselves, but it's they've they've taken apart the consumer fraud division. They've taken apart the banking fraud con division. And, you know, I to make it worse, today is the day that they're looking at appointing the you know, Trump has appointed Todd Blanche to be the attorney general, and this guy is so dirty.
Speaker 19:You know, he's that guy that gave you remember in the Epstein file, Epstein's girlfriend was Ghislain Maxwell. Well, Todd Blanche is the guy they've put up, and he's the guy that secretly went down to the prison where she was held and then sent her over to a cushier prison over in Texas. And he's the guy, if you you know about the tariffs and how they've made inflation like crazy.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 19:The supreme court did a ruling a while back saying that the tariff money is supposed to be given back to us. Well, it's not being given back to us. And that's a part of the problem is Todd Blanche. So I'm just gonna remind, senator Murkowski and and, the other senator to, vote no on Todd Blanche. This guy is way too dirty to be the attorney general for America.
Speaker 2:Oh, okay. Yeah. That's that's a tough one for sure. And it's crazy that they shut down all those divisions. I was not aware of that.
Speaker 2:I guess I don't have my ear to the pulse of all that as much as I should. But, yeah, so that them shutting those down kinda increases the amount of spams or kinda impersonations of those divisions and making it seem like people are getting in trouble.
Speaker 19:Oh, yeah. And with AI, it can only get worse. You know, that you would think you're hearing, you know, some friend or relative or something like that, but AI no. They it's it's incredible how much fraud is possible now with the I'm trying to think of the the extra scam they they laid on. Oh, I know what it is.
Speaker 19:You know, if you, you know, electronic fraud across state lines, it used to be called wire transfer fraud or Yeah. You know, along those lines. Well so now imagine that somebody has got a a a computer and that they set up that computer and they target different people across state lines. Well, the with AI, they could program a computer to loot people 50¢ a day or, you know, some given amount that you wouldn't really notice in your balance until the end of the month or until you did a real detailed sort of thing. And and and so if if you programmed it to do 500 people a day, if you programmed it and it it so now these AI data centers can be in a given city, and then AI would be doing that across state lines in 10 different states or 20 different states.
Speaker 19:You need you need somebody with, like, federal jurisdiction to be able to calculate, to be able to trace all of this sort of stuff even though it's it may be a meaningless amount of money. Like, 50¢ a day can come up to millions in the course of a year. You do it enough. And this AI, how would they prosecute the person that punched the button to activate that whole scam?
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 19:And especially if they're gonna take, yeah, they're gonna take these AI things and put them in outer space. How do you prosecute somebody that's using a a an AI fraud system that's based in outer space? It's it and I again, I'm saying this Todd Blanche guy, this guy has gotta go because he is so soft on crime. He has no no ex expectation of coming clean. They've asked him in hearings in the last couple of weeks about a 100 different subjects, and he's always got these lame answers of, well, that's what that's what the the people elected Trump, and they you gotta settle with it.
Speaker 19:You lump it kind of thing. I'm just I'm sick of these organized crime guys, you know, pretending that America has to cave into them.
Speaker 2:Yeah. It's a tough one, especially as far as you're saying with AI and faking and doing all that stuff, and it's it's great. It's just scary, and I know a lot of things are trying to get or a lot of people are trying to shut down certain AI programs and, like, really make sure they are what's the word? Held accountable for anything that's been pushed through or used with AI. And I know as we progress down this road, I'm sure the I'm just going to get tighter and tighter as far as restrictions and making sure AI is kind of monitored more.
Speaker 2:But I hear you, mister. I we we've been on the call for a little bit. I do have to shift gears, but I appreciate what you're saying and, yeah, making sure folks are aware of possible schemes, AI, and just the state of our government at the moment. But I appreciate your call, and I hope you have a good rest of your Friday.
Speaker 19:Same to you. Good weekend.
Speaker 2:You as well. Have a good one. Alright. I do appreciate that conversation, but I did have another call going through during that. So feel free to give me a callback.
Speaker 2:I'll get you right on the program. I did get a couple text messages, though. So in the meantime, if you wanna call back, I'll read these texts. So this person has a Hangar nine Cub. They're willing to trade for a larger sized drone or electric helicopter.
Speaker 2:So if you're interested in a Hanger nine Cub, it's a control airplane, you can call (907) 209-6810. And then I got another text. Someone is looking for a rear end for a fifteen hundred fifteen hundred Chevy pickup Silverado or Tahoe. If you got a rear end of that or got a parts car sitting around, give them a call or text, (907) 957-4160, and you could hopefully figure out a deal to get that rear end for your 1,500 Chevy pickup Silverado. In the meantime, let me write those down actually.
Speaker 2:The rear end 1,500 Chevy. I did get another text message. Ah, this is a great reminder. Thank you for sending this in. This was on my on air sheet.
Speaker 2:I might have gotten to this a little later. Veterans dinner, the thank you for your service veterans dinner is going on Thursday, July 30. So all veterans and families are more than welcome. Dinner is served six to 07:30. Doors open at five.
Speaker 2:Though it is at the Clinton And Haida Community Building, which is at 3235 Hospital Drive. So if you're interest if you're a veteran, this is free for all and families. Again, this happening 07/30/2026. So that's just coming up right around the corner. They have a lot of sponsors, and it couldn't have been made possible without all their support.
Speaker 2:So thank you for sharing that. That's great info. We usually we're we're usually pretty on top of it promoting that event, so I'm sure you'll hear more of us talk about it across all radio stations here on KINY and all the other Alaska First media stations. So the rear real quick. Rear end Chevy Chevy.
Speaker 2:I go, I cannot talk right now. 957-4160 for that. And then the Hanger nine Cub, looking for a trade or a big helicopter or drone, you can reach out to them, (907) 209-6810. So it's 1147. We have about ten minutes or so left of the program.
Speaker 2:So one thing I've been doing myself on the airways, I'm also on mix one zero six if y'all don't listen to that program, but on that on that program, I do a thing called no way that's real, which is I dive into stories and products that just make you think no real way that's a that actually happened or no way that someone actually made that. So I'm going to give you an example of that. If you have your own, I think it would be fun to share some of these or personal experiences. It might get on my program too if you're willing to share that with me. But there's a real product called toilet shoes, and they're like lifted shoes that you wear when you're on the toilet.
Speaker 2:Kinda gets you in a better position. And when I read that, was like, holy cow. People actually buy these things. Like, apparently, they sold out. Like, the people are actually buying these shoes, so their feet are on platforms when they're going to the bathroom.
Speaker 2:And I thought that was pretty bananas. So if you have your own no way that's real product or story that's something that happened to you that's like, oh my gosh. I can't believe that actually happened or that, no way that's real. Love to share it on the air if you're willing to share it with me. Looking into some more events, though, as we are progressing.
Speaker 2:Actually, real quick before I jump into events, I wanna see if we got some new emails. No new emails yet, so we're okay there. The Aukman is coming up right around the corner. That's happening on August 2. So if you're not familiar with the Aukman, if you're new to Juno, this is our local triathlon and many different others.
Speaker 2:They actually have Aquabike two going on. So August 2, that's going down. And I do have a call. Let's jump right to it. Hi.
Speaker 2:Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 18:Yeah. Because of governor Dunley was calling about special session starting on July 27, none of the representatives on the Alaska legislature are allowed to raise money while the legislature's in session. So that means the session starts July 27. So I guess Andy Storey can't raise money after that. So I guess that that means or anybody can correct me if I'm wrong, but that means she'll only have until Sunday, the twenty sixth, to raise money for her reelection.
Speaker 18:But I don't know if anybody's looked into Anne Kreitzer from Haines' record, but she didn't inform the rest of the Hainesboro about about a big steel contract they had for I believe it was it was that's not it. But I'm looking at my notes here. Unfortunately, the photocopying machine is not working okay. Now there's a there's a 10,000,000 Turnigan marine construction contract for Lutak Lutak Dock. I'm not sure how if that's correct, how to pronounce that.
Speaker 18:Spelled l u t a k. $10,000,000 worth of pipes, actually $9,741,114.61. And that divided between the Hainesboro's population of 2,006 2,068 residents equals $4,710 per resident. The feds won't pay it, so the Hainesboro is stuck with that.
Speaker 12:Wow.
Speaker 18:And, yeah, 4,000 almost $5,000 per resident. Now I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want somebody that they this was an unauthorized purchase on behalf of Hanes for the Lutac doc. $10,000,000 mistake. And and that I forget her last name, starts with a k, didn't inform the rest of the bureau about this purchase. She went on vacation.
Speaker 18:Afterwards, she used her vacation as an excuse for not informing, for delaying informing the borough about that purchase
Speaker 2:Oh, wow.
Speaker 18:While she was the Haines manager Hainesboro manager. And I don't know about the city of Haines, but if I was a resident of Haines, I'd be really angry about getting the bill for $4,710 per resident.
Speaker 2:Yeah. That's kind of extreme.
Speaker 18:And, of course, they're not they're not really chart counting that when it counts per resident, they are dividing that by anybody other under the age of 18. So that's just the people 18, so I'm not sure how that would round out because children aren't getting that bill. It's their parents.
Speaker 19:Mhmm.
Speaker 18:So
Speaker 2:Well, I'd be very curious to hear I can't imagine her
Speaker 18:getting any any votes from Haynes. I don't think they're really too happy about Annette. And I would say hold on to Andy's story. In fact, I'm gonna be making a contribution to her before her Sunday deadline before the Alaska legislature goes back into session in July 27. And I'm really upset.
Speaker 18:I I would not underestimate Annette because she has a lot of political connections. She's filed as a Republican. She was lieutenant governor under a or she was on the lieutenant governor's administration chief of staff. So Lamar, and she also worked for Sarah Palin. So I really wouldn't underestimate her and also being the city manager for Hainesboro.
Speaker 3:But Yeah.
Speaker 18:That's a pretty big mistake right there. And I I just I can't understand why anybody would vote her.
Speaker 2:That's definitely a tough one, but I do we our conversation's gone ran a little long. I do appreciate you calling in and and throwing this information I'd out love to hear from a Haines residence more on this, so I appreciate that, and we'll probably bring this topic up again in the future.
Speaker 18:Alright. Thank you.
Speaker 2:No problem. Thank you. Now I do have another call. We'll jump right to it. Hi.
Speaker 2:Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 19:Yes. Hello. Hey. I was just listening to that last caller, and I think we really need to encourage people to be a little better versed on this subject they start expounding on. I'm not real well versed on that subject, but I do know that that was over a contract dispute.
Speaker 19:So I don't think it's quite as cut and dried as that gentleman made it out to be. The the project started moving forward, and then all of a sudden, they got into dispute of how it was gonna move forward. And and then Tournagain asked to be paid for all the material that they had gone ahead and bought. So, yeah, I I I think people people should be cautious about speaking about things that they don't really have all the facts on. So that that gentleman should get better informed before he starts ranting and raving like that.
Speaker 19:And and that's all I got. Thanks a lot.
Speaker 2:Appreciate it. Appreciate Yeah. The That's also the beauty of Problem Corner. I appreciate both calls and both gentlemen chiming in on that topic. And, yeah, that's kinda as any conversation goes, we could kinda just bounce it off someone.
Speaker 2:If someone's like, yeah. I'm not sure about that. That's the beauty of this program. We could kinda bounce them forth and and kinda go from there. It's 11:55.
Speaker 2:I might have time for one or two more calls. Let's go right for it. Oh, I lost that one. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner.
Speaker 2:You're live and on the air.
Speaker 19:Yeah. I was gonna make a comment about the the caller two calls ago.
Speaker 20:He was absolutely correct about the Haynes thing.
Speaker 2:Mhmm.
Speaker 20:So, yeah, the last caller was saying, you know, he wasn't absolutely correct about that, but he was. So thank you.
Speaker 2:Yeah. I appreciate your call and joining in on that convo.
Speaker 20:I'm a Haynes resident.
Speaker 2:Thank you. Oh, you're a Haynes resident. Okay. So I was I'm glad that you called and kinda I was wondering if someone from Haynes was gonna call during that topic, so I appreciate you calling in.
Speaker 3:Thank you. Bye.
Speaker 2:You have a good one. And I have time for one more call. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.
Speaker 19:Yeah. Hi. Thanks for taking the call. My gosh. That fellow that called in is a little challenged, and I don't wanna, you know, come down on him too hard or anything.
Speaker 19:I'm I'm sure he's meets his challenges as best he can. But my wife and I moved to Juneau from Haines years ago, and we have a lot of ties to Haines.
Speaker 2:And Okay.
Speaker 19:I just wanna say and and, you know, we certainly know Annette Kreitzer. You know? Like, everybody knows everybody here in Southeast. And and she brought fiscal responsibility to to every job, including the Haines job, you know, and and fiscal responsibility of a sort we wish we had more often here in Juneau city government. You know?
Speaker 19:So like I say, I I don't and thanks for your program, by the way. And Of course. So I I don't wanna come down on that guy hard or anything. He's, you know, doing the best he can, obviously. But Annette Kreitzer is is a great candidate for State House, and she does a great job at at every everything she does.
Speaker 19:So I just wanted to say that before the end of your program. And thanks again. Have a great day, and and and thanks for taking the call.
Speaker 2:Of course. I appreciate calling in and chiming in on that and kinda giving us a little more info as far as because not everyone knows what goes on in Haynes. So, yeah, I appreciate your call, and I hope you have a good rest of your Friday and a good weekend.
Speaker 19:You too. You bet. Thank you.
Speaker 2:Alrighty. Bye bye. Yeah. That's one thing I really like about this program with Problem Corner. Like, we could all get our own information, and the way we reciprocate or take other viewpoints or even other facts or information is just keeps us gets us all more knowledgeable.
Speaker 2:It gets us kinda thinking about how we perceive knowledge or even learn what's going on in different communities. We don't fully know what's going on in the small towns or in Haines unless we hear about it or we do our own research. So I do greatly appreciate all the folks chiming in about stuff that's going on in Haines and city management going on over there. So, yeah, I greatly appreciate it. We are down to our final minute.
Speaker 2:I don't have enough time to take another call, so, sadly, I'm gonna go through the calls that we do have so far. So that wet vacuum is five and a half gallon, $40 for a better offer. If you're interested in that, you can call (907) 419-3779. And then we had the portable radio CD player, a bunch of tools, and a fishing rod. You can reach out to (907) 713-5568.
Speaker 2:Then we had that g scale train model, looking for a new home or if that person that came across Mary was talking to. (907) 723-9710. And then we had the rear end 1,500 Chevy Silverado. Looking for a new rear end. You if you have that, give this person a call at (907) 957-4160.
Speaker 2:Then the trade in for a Hangar 9 cub for a big helicopter or Drone, (907) 209-6810. And that shall do it for me here on the program. I'm Justin Miller. I've been filling in for Nano on this Friday. Hope you have a great, great weekend.
Speaker 2:And remember, be the change you wanna see in the world. I'm Jess Miller now. Hear from you guys hopefully soon here on KINY.
