Good morning.

And welcome to morning cereal

Okay, good morning and welcome to Friday.

Look at you, making it all the way to the

best day of the week.

Friday at the end of a month no less?

That means it's likely a payday Friday,

which are one of the

best kinds of Fridays that there are.

Well, you can use that new cash liquidity

event to buy a ticket

to the circus. Today is National Barnum

and Bailey Day. Or perhaps

buy a hot tub. Today is also

National Hot Tub Day. But if your budget

is calling for something a

little easier to swallow,

how about buying something on a stick?

Today is National Eat

Something on a Stick Day.

Here are some ideas. Corn dogs, kebabs,

anything on a skewer, tater

tot skewers, hot dog skewers,

shrimp skewers, pineapple shrimp skewers,

lemon shrimp skewers,

pepper shrimp skewers. That's

about it. Oh, ice cream on a stick. One

of my favorites. Well,

today's quote is from the

character Bubba Blue from Forrest Gump.

And Bubba said this, quote,

"I don't know if we each have a

destiny or if we're all just floating

around accidental like on

a breeze, but I think maybe

it's both." End quote. Now that's a very

thoughtful philosophical insight by

someone obsessed with

shrimp. Are our lives predetermined or

simply random? Destiny or

chance? Well, tune in tomorrow

and I'll answer that one in detail. Well,

today's news facts and

birthdays are from March 28th.

And we're going to start back in 1963.

That's when Alfred

Hitchcock's movie The Birds,

it was released and this movie used to

freak me out. I still don't

look at crows the same way.

Then jumping up to 1979, you might

remember there was a

partial meltdown at the Three Mile

Island nuclear plant in the United

States. And that

resulted in radioactive leakage.

You know, I thought I heard Doritos

caused that too. Well, finally, if you

were settling in for

some TV on a Friday night this same week

back in 1990, and browsing

the TV guide as we did back

then, you would have shows to choose from

like Full House, Family

Matters, Perfect Strangers,

The Magic of David Copperfield, Baywatch

and Dallas. Man, doesn't

it seem like just yesterday

we're all just watching those classics?

Well, happy birthday to

you. Today is your birthday.

You share a birthday with singer Lady

Gaga. She turns 39 today.

Actress Julia Stiles, she's 44.

Actor Vince Vaughn, he's 55 today. Singer

Reba McIntyre, she's 70.

And former basketball player

Rick Berry, he's 80 today. And

interestingly, I met Rick

Berry in fifth grade when for some

reason he visited my elementary school in

Colorado Springs, Colorado.

I don't remember much about

that other than I thought he was very

tall. And when somebody

asked him just how tall he was,

he said, I am five feet 19 inches tall.

Well, I'll let you do

the math on that one.

Moving on to movies and songs. The number

one movie on this date in

1996 was Up Close and Personal.

Now this is a film starring Robert

Redford and Michelle

Pfeiffer. And interestingly,

the critical acclaim surrounding the

movie was really around the

original theme song for the

movie. And that theme song was Because

You Loved Me, which was sang by none

other than the brilliant,

brilliant Celine Dion, which brings us to

the number one song on

this day. Also in 1996,

it was Because You Loved Me by Celine

Dion. Now she won the Grammy Award for

the best song written

for a motion picture for this song. And

you know, I love my Celine Dion and I

love this song as well.

And so does Billboard Magazine because

Billboard ranked Because You

Loved Me as the 14th top love

song of all time. Well, I'm a sucker for

a good love song, but I'm

also a sucker for some self

improvement to get us going on this

Friday and headed into a weekend in the

right frame of mind.

So here are my takeaways from chapter

seven of part four of Dale

Carnegie's How to Win Friends

and Influence People. And in this

chapter, which is entitled Give a Dog a

Good Name, Carnegie has

been talking about giving people a

reputation or a virtue to live up to. And

in doing so, most people

will step up to that challenge to live up

to this characteristic

that you've assigned them,

even if it's a stretch, rather than let

you down or even now let

themselves down. Well, Carnegie

gives a few illustrations and here are

some of the one-liners where someone

assigned a characteristic

or a reputation that in the end, it

encouraged the other person to some

positive end. Here are a few

of them. "You do not know what treasures

are within you." And the

next one is, "You are always

willing to listen and are big enough to

change your mind when the

facts warrant a change."

And the last example here is, "I

understand you are a natural leader. I'm

going to depend on you."

Well, each one of these comments gave

another person something to live up to.

And more often than not, most people will

give it their best

effort to do just that.

Now, obviously, this works in the home,

in social situations, and

in professional settings. So,

here it is. In a chapter entitled Give a

Dog a Good Name, Carnegie's

principle number seven is,

"Give the other person a fine reputation

to live up to." Well, join

us again on Monday for chapter

eight, which is entitled, "Make the Fault

Seem Easy to Correct" and Learn

Carnegie's Principle

Number Eight. Well, thanks for joining us

today. Have a great weekend

getting all of those spring

cleaning chores done

and have a fantastic day.
