A faith-forward podcast for people who love Jesus but also love being honest about how weird and wonderful life can be. Hosts Kerrye and Jill tell stories about the Bible, talk about their faith, and dig into what it looks like to follow God through the ordinary chaos of everyday, imperfect life. Real conversations. Real stories. No pretending to have it all together. Pull up a chair, turn the page, and let's go.
Welcome to Chapter and Verse, where people
come on and tell their real stories,
faith, failure, redemption, and the
occasional, "Lord, what are you doing?"
moment.
Some inspiring, some messy,
and some that probably should
have come with a warning label.
Because through every chapter of
every story, God is still writing.
And He's not afraid of a little chaos.
This is Jill.
And Carrie.
Let's turn the page.
Hey, everybody.
It's Jill.
And Carrie.
And we're coming at you with a little
bit of a different episode today.
Um, we've done Jerks of the Bible a
little bit, and now we're gonna talk about
introverts and extroverts in the Bible.
'Cause yes, since the dawn of time,
we have had introverts and extroverts.
Mm.
Yes.
So ⦠Wonder what they called
them in the Bible though.
Normal and abnormal.
I'm just kidding.
I'm just kidding.
I'll let- Which one's normal?
I'll let you guys decide
which one's normal.
I mean, I guess whichever one you
fall into would be your normal.
They can't even hear you.
The introverts.
Can you guess?
We're the normal ones.
So- Carrie, this is
how- ⦠introverted Carrie is.
She didn't know she was an introvert.
I didn't.
I've always, I mean, till I
met Jill, I have always ees-
viewed myself as an extrovert.
And I mean, I don't even
want to talk about age, but I
had two kids when I met you.
Like- Yeah ⦠it wasn't
like I was in college even.
But you, I don't even know
what the conversation was.
Do you remember?
I don't, I don't remember the,
like, nitty-gritty of it, but I
do remember being surprised that
you thought you were an extrovert.
And, like- Yeah.
No, I was surprised that
you said I was an introvert.
Right, I know.
You said you were surprised that
you thought you were an ex- I, I was
surprised that you- Oh, you were surprised
thought you were an extrovert.
Gotcha.
Yeah, because- Yeah ⦠I don't
know how we were talking about
it, but I said something about
being an extrovert, I guess.
Yeah.
And you said ⦠I was like,
"You're not an extrovert."
You're saying we had an argument about it.
We did.
And- For a minute, and
then I had to explain it
I said, "Yes, I am.
I am.
I likeâ¦"
I s- I remember saying, "I like people."
And I said, "That's not
what an extrovert is."
Plenty of introverted people like
people, but it's, in my understandingâ¦
Now, full transparency,
I am not an expert.
You don't have to say that, 'cause
this is just a conversation.
It is just a conversation, but I,
I do feel like eventually there
will be people who are like, "I'm
actually- Not our good listeners
I'm whatever."
Because they're smart.
No.
But I'm expecting for the
people, the haters to come.
The people.
And my ty- The others.
Remember that?
What was that show that had the others?
I can't remember.
It wasn't that long ago.
Was it a movie?
No, it was a series.
It's just a, like a miniseries.
The others.
Lost.
Oh, yep.
The others.
I didn't really watch Lost.
Oh, I liked it.
I didn't give into it.
I hated the way it ended.
I'm not even gonna talk about it because
I don't like the way it ended, but anyway.
But the others.
But- The others ⦠okay, so I
remember you telling me the c- the, the
explanation you gave made sense in my
mind, and then it's just like my whole
life lit up with like, "Oh, that's why.
Oh, that's why."
That explains so much.
Yeah.
So you give the explanation and then
I can go back and be like, "And I
remember this," and it, you know.
Yeah.
So the explanation, the easiest
explanation that I have found is really,
like, how you recharge your batteries.
Like, when you feel kind of down
and just, not down like sad even,
but just like, hoo, like you need to
rest and recharge, 'cause we all get
there, how do you go about doing it?
Do you go home and, like,
sit in a quiet room?
It doesn't have to be alone,
but just like sit quietly-
By your, usually by yourself or
with people who will leave you
alone, um, which is not always
the case at home, but whatever.
Do you get recharged there, or do
you feel like, "Okay, I need to go
out with my buddies," and then at the
end of, like, a dinner outing you're
like, "Oh, I feel so much better"?
That's the difference.
The extrovert feels so much better after,
like, going out with their buddies or-
And having a conversation ⦠seeing
other people, having good conversation,â¦
when I get feeling a little bit
drained, I can literally just
make a phone call to another
extrovert buddy that I, that I know.
And I mean, I have a couple.
I have a lot of introverted buddies, but
I have a couple extroverted buddies, and
we will really just recharge each other
just chatting on the phone for a while,
and then be like, "Okay, feel better."
She, she never calls me.
Because you're the introvert.
I'm just like, yeah, the shame.
Are we done talking now?
Bye.
That's it.
No, I'm kidding.
Like if you think about it, like y-
your phone calls are very much like,
here's what needs to be handled,
like, here's what we need to discuss.
Like, introverts love a text message.
Mm.
And- Or if it is, I'll tell you, if you're
gonna call and tell me a story- Yeah
where I don't have to talk.
Right.
Yeah, you call and you talk, I'll
sit there and I like to listen to it.
Yeah.
But if I'm gonna have to talk and tell
you something, and I will, like I, if you
need me to cheer you up, but honestly,
I would rather text you and give you
all kinds of- Mm-hmm ⦠I'm gonna
tell you what you need to do in a text.
Yep.
But extroverts prefer, like, just call me.
Just call me.
I'll take a text message and I'll text
with people all day long, but I feel
better if we're just chatting it up.
Yeah.
Okay.
So she was telling me that, and I was
like, this makes my whole entire life
make sense because- Yeah ⦠even as
a child, um, I, it's not that I, I
wanted to be around people, but I felt
after I was at a party or a function or
whatever, I would go home even as a kid
and just kinda be like, "I'm exhausted."
Right.
Not even tired like I need to go to
sleep, but just mentally- Like, ooh,
that took it out of me ⦠exhausted.
Yeah.
You know, my wedding- I had, I had a great
time, but ooh ⦠my wedding was like
I hated being the center of attention.
Um, I'm not used to that anyway,
like with functions or whatever.
And like, you know, I'd want people to
come over to my house and I would, I
loved having company, but afterwards
it was like, oh my goodness, just
don't talk to me for about 30 minutes.
It made sense of like why
I was so mentally drained.
Yeah.
And then I was, then, you know-
Then I could prepare myself.
Yes.
Once you know these things about yourself,
it's not a good or a bad thing either way.
Mm-hmm.
Like, if you're introverted,
then you're just introverted, and
understanding that this is how you
recharge your batteries makes it bet-
like, it makes it easier for you to
be a better spouse, a better friend,
a better parent, a better coworker.
Like, you understand, "Okay,
I'm, I'm reaching the limit here.
I need to take a minute and just
be by myself, recharge a little
bit, and then I can, I can bring
more of, of what y'all need."
Yeah.
You know?
An extrovert who understands that
they are extroverted, um, can also
understand, like, "Hey, I, this
might be too much for these little
introverted people right now."
Like, I might need to dial it
back six notches, you know?
Yes.
That's ⦠It makes sense on both,
both- Yeah ⦠things you're saying.
Like- Yeah ⦠you can prep yourself
or after realize, you know, "This
is why now I need a, like, an hour."
Yeah.
It also is easier to identify
why some people might really
just take it out of you.
Like, you like them, but, like, for
me, there are some introverted people
that- For whatever reason, they
don't respond to my energy the same.
And so I feel like, man, it's work
getting them to open up and getting
them to give me anything, right?
Um, there are some introverts that
it's, it- we just click, and that
I think is just personalities.
But I'm sure that I encounter people,
those same people that I'm like,
man, it's really work to get them
to, to give me anything, they're
probably like, "I am exhausted
every time I have to encounter Jill.
She's just so much."
And that's okay, 'cause- I don't
they, I don't feel that way around
you, but I see what you're saying.
Yeah.
But if you are around one of our other
extrovert friends- Mm-hmm, then it
becomes too much for you ⦠well,
eh, not necessarily, but sometimes I'm
like, you know, I'm just gonna step out.
Yeah.
And it's not that I don't want to hear
y'all, but I'm just like, I can't follow-
There's- ⦠both of you at the sameâ¦
It's like, listen, it's
like having a Southern mind.
I don't know.
We're slower.
Not slower- Oh ⦠dumber,
but I'm just like, it'sâ¦
Okay, for me, this is
the ex- best explanation.
It's like watching television
where everyone has accents
but you have to read it.
Oh, you have the subtitles on.
Because they're talking too fast for me.
It's not like I can't understand it,
but if I can read it, if you and your
friends had subtitles- Mm-hmm ⦠I
probably could hang in there longer.
Probably.
Because I'm like, okay,
I get it, I get it.
You know?
Yeah.
I don't know why that is, but
that's just the way my mind works.
But, and it's not that I don't
enjoy the company, I do, but
sometimes I'm just relieved,
like, okay, good, they're talking.
I'm just gonna zone out.
Yeah.
Like, it's like I can have
my little mental break.
Yeah.
So, and I love going on
road trips with extroverts.
Love it, because then I do notâ¦
I remember going on a youth trip.
Okay, shout out to Lyn- Lindsey Andrews.
I don't know if you consider- Oh
⦠yourself an extrovert, but I went on a-
Yeah, I would consider her an extrovert.
Yeah, me too.
I went on a fine arts trip where
we had to be in the van- quite a
while together while I was driving.
That was the easiest drive of
my whole entire life because
Lindsay talked the entire time.
Mm-hmm.
I never had to think,
"What am I gonna say?"
'Cause that's another
pressure I feel like of mine.
Mm-hmm.
I don't know if that's just
my personality, but I'm like,
"What am I gonna talk about?
What am I gonna talk about?
What am I gonna talk about?"
Typically, introverts have, um, a
harder time dealing with small talk.
Yeah.
Like, they're, they're good with
meaningful talk, but just, like, talk
to fill the air, they're not great.
I can't do it.
Yeah.
Unless I know the person really well.
Mm-hmm.
And Lindsay, I felt like
I knew her after that.
Yeah.
And it was easier to
talk to her after that.
And I don't remember what trip it
was on, Lindsay, but thank you.
It was a really good road trip.
I'm not kidding.
Yeah.
It was so easy.
But- And I was just like, "What a relief."
Yeah.
So anyway, so- So with all of that,
we decided to explore who in the
Bible would fall into which category.
So we kind of, being that I am
an extrovert and Carrie is an
introvert, we decided to find
our own people in the Bible.
Mine popped in my head right away.
I had two that popped in my head
right away, and I'm saving the, the
first one that popped into my head
because I think he's gonna show up
in another episode of the- Jerks
Jerks of the Bible.
He's, he's probably- He's
probably gonna be our next jerk.
Yeah.
Um, so look forward to that.
But D- I mean, we've, we've already
spoiled it- Yeah, just between
each other ⦠for each other.
Yeah.
Like, we talked about it, so I was
gonna be like, "Tell me who it is,"
but- Yeah ⦠I know who it is.
Okay, so- Do you wanna go first?
Sure.
Okay.
Um, mine is Moses.
I do fully believe he was an introvert.
Um, I do.
Which might be a hot take considering
he, you know, went before Pharaoh
and he did all of his things.
But I think he was just obedient in that.
Well, I'm like, okay, let's just go.
Um- Yep.
Let's take it ⦠when in Exodus
4, of course, this is when,
um, God is talking to him.
Um, three and four is where he,
you know, he's talking to him
about going to s- see Pharaoh.
And, um, and I am using the
Voice Translation again.
So, um, he's kind of having a little
argument with God, not in a nice
polite way, but he's basically
saying that, "I'm not the person.
I'm not the person for this."
Um, and, you know, in f- chapter four
it says, "What if they don't trust me?
What if they don't listen
to a single word I say?
They are more likely to reply,
'The t- Eternal One has not
revealed himself to you.'"
And he answered him, "What
do you have in your hand?"
You know, "Throw down your staff."
Um, and he did.
You know, we know what happened there.
And then, um, then, you know, he's
telling him, "You're, you're gonna
have me backing you up here."
Um, that wasn't really not good
enough for Moses, um, so he's, you
know, then he- Moses needed more
reassurance ⦠yeah, the hand and
the cloak- ⦠and all that stuff.
And then, then even after that, after he
put his hand in his cloak and, you know,
his leprosy and he pulled it back and all
that, then he still, like, but, bas- then
he gets down to it, "I am not talented."
You know, he, "I'm not a good speaker.
I've never been good with words."
Um, y- basically he stuttered, you know-
Mm-hmm ⦠and he's had that problem.
And then, you know, it says, "When I was
younger, I haven't gotten any better."
You know, so it's basically revealing,
you know, "My whole life I have not
felt like I could be a speaker, and now
you're asking me to go speak in front
of the world's most powerful person."
And, um, then I think probably God was
like, you know- "I have had enough."
Now he's like, "Who is it that
gives the person the mouth?
Um, who determines whether ones, one
person speaks and another doesn't?
Why is it that one person
hears and another doesn't?"
He's basically, he's saying, "I am
going to give you the words to say.
I am going to tell you what to say."
Yeah.
And still he was like, "Please,
Lord, I beg you to send your
message through someone else."
After that, um, then he became s-
my, this version says, "Then the
Eternal One became angry with Moses."
And, um, then he said, "How about
your brother, Aaron the Levite?"
Aaron, probably an extrovert.
I think.
You know.
I mean- And because he said, "I know
he speaks eloquently, and look, he
ar- is already on his way to meet you.
And when he sees you, um, his heart will
be put w- his heart will be delighted."
Um- So like he was saying, like, we'll,
we'll use this extrovert to help you.
And I do, like looking back I would think
in my life I did tend to go to the person
who was more outgoing to be friends with.
Mm-hmm.
Because- To be a little cover.
Yeah.
It's, it's nice to have someone-
A little support ⦠who can
start conversations that you can
join in on and be like, "Yeah."
Yep.
And put your two cents in.
Yeah.
They're, they're like-
They- ⦠your built-in
icebreaker ⦠they're an icebreaker.
Yeah.
They're the bulldozer that paves the
way for you to come in and be like,
"Yeah, and this, and this, and this."
And t- to this day,
calling you out, Becky.
Um, Becky McVay still thinks I'm
an extrovert because I was, let
me just brag on myself, because
I was such a great actress.
Carrie missed her calling.
I, man, I could make it in the Hollywoods.
But I was a- such a great pretender
of being extroverted that I, of
course, I had my cell phone, but I
still have not proven it to Becky.
I don't know what I should do,
Becky, just sit in silence with you?
Which I have, but you didn't
notice because you're an
extrovert and you kept talking.
Boom.
We love you, Becky.
We really do.
I do love you, Becky, and I love that
you're basically my first long-term
extrovert that I can remember.
But- Yeah.
So that's, I think that Moses
was, and there's, you know,
we see he was the leader.
Yeah.
But- But that's the thing.
Yeah ⦠like, i- introvert and
extrovert has nothing to do with
ability to lead or not, or jobs or
performance or anything like that.
It, it really, again, from my
understanding, it really is more
about how you perceive the world
and also how you recharge your own
spirit- Yeah ⦠and batteries.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So let's go to the extrovert.
We'll probably come back and talk
a little bit more about, go ahead.
Little bit.
Tell us yours.
So the extrovert I chose was Paul.
Of course.
Of course.
But he wasn't my first choice.
Mm-hmm.
Y'all, like, I, I really got into it.
But, so there are a couple
of things with extroverts.
Like- And we, extroverts
tend to be louder, bolder.
Um, we externally process,
meaning we will talk.
We'll, like we'll just start talking,
and we will find out how we feel
about something while we're talking.
Um, yeah.
So I have, I have my notes.
I took some notes.
Um, and so I said, Paul
thinks out loud like a lawyer.
Like, he builds an argument
as he goes in real time.
Um, we see this in Acts 17 when he debates
philosophers in Greece, when he reasons
with everybody in the synagogues, and
he pulls out his four-point explanations
and is like, "Nope, nope, nope.
What about this and this and this?"
Um, we even see it in his early
life as Saul when he's like, "Y'all
are doing this wrong," you know?
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
"We're supposed to do these things,
these, these, these things, and
you are blasphemous 'cause you
believe in this Jesus, and now
you've got a penalty to pay.
Sorry about it."
Mm-hmm.
"Here it is."
Um, has no problem at all
taking care of business.
This is all the letters, all of
the letters through the whole New
Testament, external processing.
Like, this is him verbally
processing through all of this stuff.
Um, he also hadâ¦
Like, he, he got energy from people.
He was constantly around other people.
Mm-hmm.
He traveled everywhere
to see all the people.
Yeah.
And then once he planted
churches, that wasn't good enough.
He, like, kept up with them.
Yeah.
You know, I mean, as we're
supposed to do, like, as disciples.
This is not what I mean.
Like, I'm not saying, like, if you
plant a church and then you're like,
off you go, and you don't continue
to mentor or whatever, like, thatâ¦
That's, that's not what
I'm talking about here.
But he, likeâ¦
He, he couldn't cut them loose.
Like- Yeah ⦠he, he knows everybody.
He's buddies with everybody.
Walks in, "Hey."
Yeah.
You can't leave a room with Paul,
'cause he's gonna talk to every single
person- Yes ⦠before he leaves.
He has, like, the Midwest goodbye,
where it's six hours later and
they're like, "Watch out for deer."
And off you go, you know?
Um, but so he plants churches,
he mentors the people.
He's constantly, even, like, through
correction and things like, he's still
like, "But I got you, buddy," you know?
And then, um, even when he was alone
in prison, he's still, like, you
know, kind of talking to people,
'cause he's writing all these letters.
Yeah.
He's still like, "Gotta
talk to the guys," you know?
Just can't let it go.
Good for him.
Um, he has purpose-driven
energy, 'cause his whole time,
like, he was all about Jesus.
Like, bam.
Like, and before he was all about
Jesus, he was all about not Jesus.
Mm.
Like, it was just, he was all
in on everything he did, and
extroverts tend to go all in.
Mm-hmm.
Like, there'sâ¦
They don't dip toes.
They cannonball in.
Mm-hmm.
That's what they do.
Um, and he spoke with confidence.
Like, he was confident.
Sometimes when he maybe
shouldn't have been so confident.
You know?
Again, this is the talking
until you figure it out.
Like, you arrive at the point at
the same time as the people you're
talking to Mm-hmm ⦠even though
you're the one saying the point.
Um, he calls people out.
In Galatians 2 he called out Peter.
Like, he was like, "You're
being a hypocrite, buddy,"
and still, still did it.
Um, he defends his authority
when it's questioned, which is
a very extrovert thing to do.
"Don't question my authority.
I've got it."
And he doesn't soften from his point,
even when it gets him arrested.
But, and here's, here's the
other part, extrovertâ¦
Okay, this is me on my
extrovert high horse.
This is, this is me.
I'm not gonna step out from
talking about Paul for a second.
I'm just talking about
extroverts in general.
Society today has done a very
good job providing a lens
and support to introverts.
Mm-hmm.
Social media especially has been very,
like, take care of the introverts.
It's okay to be an introvert.
It's fine to have your downtime,
have your self-care, all the things.
And they should.
The introverts should be supported.
But I think it can be tricky because while
we're supporting these introverts, it can
be very easily interpreted that if you are
not exhibiting those personality traits
that an introvert has, that you're somehow
broken or off, and you should switch.
Like, you should change and try
to be- Yeah ⦠this other way,
and that's just not the case.
No, and I think people might
be encouraged to be introverts
so that we can be disconnected.
Yes, yes.
And I don't- Isolated ⦠I
don't like that.
I don't like that either.
'Cause I still evenâ¦
I don't think that introverts
don't want to be with people.
Well, no, we all need connection.
Because we have to have-
Mm-hmm ⦠connection.
Yeah.
So it's about having a healthy and,
you know, functional connection
with people, and understanding
ourselves and not being too tapped
out, not having an expectation ofâ¦
Like, for me, quarantine and COVID was
very difficult 'cause I am an extrovert.
I n- I needed the people.
Mm-hmm.
Lots of introverted people did not have
as difficult a time with quarantine-
Yeah ⦠'cause they were like, especially
at first, "This is the greatest thing."
Yeah.
Like, "I have to stay home
and away from the people."
I, you know, I didn't- "I
have the perfect excuse."
I did not like it.
I don't know.
I think that's because deep down
you don't wanna be told what to do.
Well, I don't, I don't like snow days.
I don't like- Yeah.
I think because also- There's
not the option I felt trapped.
Yeah.
I, yeah, I don't have options.
You, if you don't give me
options- Yeah ⦠then that, yeah.
I, I don't like to be stuck at home.
Yeah.
Not that I don't enjoy my house,
I do, but if, if I'm trapped
there, then I'm like, no.
Yeah.
Because I love being busy,
and I love what I do.
Mm-hmm.
Like, I love my job.
I love all that.
Um, but yeah.
And you wanna be able to go do it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was ⦠Yeah, it was depressing for me.
Yeah.
Maybe not for all.
I think that's just another personality.
Exactly.
Personalities are separate from this.
But, and I do believe there's
extroverts and introverts Period.
I don't think that there's a middle.
And I know people do, but I just don't.
I think that there are people who
are better at functioning in the
middle ground, but I don't think
that puts them in the middle.
I think people are solidly an extrovert
or solidly an introvert, and they just
are better at functioning- Well- ⦠in
the middle ⦠I've learned you have to.
Mm-hmm.
In my job, you have to be, you know, like,
kind of like an extrovert all the time.
Yeah.
And I can be as long as
I take time to recharge.
Right.
So.
I think the people who would
categorize themselves as, like,
an ambivert, if that's what we're
gonna call that, um, I thinkâ¦
This is gonna sound real harsh,
and I might cut it later,
but we'll see if it makes it.
Um, I just think they're
fooling themselves.
I think that at the end of
the day, there is one way that
you recharge your batteries.
Mm-hmm.
And that's, that's where you land.
Yeah.
And it's not good or bad either way,
just, just figure out where you are.
Yeah.
And then that's fine.
And you can go a, I could go a long
time, let's just say, well, during
the Easter production that we had at
our church- Mm-hmm ⦠that was a,
you know, month-long getting ready.
Endeavor, yeah.
Being around people.
I loved every single second.
I did.
Yeah.
I loved talking to people.
I loved being around them.
I loved everything that
was involved in that.
And the whole week after the play, my
job that I've chosen- Yeah ⦠I chose
this job, is to do the laundry of all
the costumes, and that is its recharging.
Right.
So but here's the other point I was
gonna make with that, is during that
Easter season, it's predictable.
Mm-hmm.
You, you're able to plan and prepare.
Like, I, like, when you know I'm going to
be around 250 people four nights a week
for, you know, two weeks, and then six
nights in one week- Yeah ⦠together,
it's easy, it's easy to prepare yours-
it's not easy, but it's possible to-
You just know ⦠prepare yourself.
You train yourself.
And then as you're going through
that time, you see the light at the
end of the tunnel, and you know,
"I've got two more nights of this."
So- "I have one more night of this."
During COVID, when you knew,
I'm not gonna be seeing a lot of
people, what'd you do to help you?
What did I do?
What'd you do to help yourself?
Oh, Lord in heaven.
I, I spent a lot of time on the telephone.
Yeah.
I really did.
I spent a lot of time on the telephone.
Um, and then, I mean, truth
be told, I'm, I'm a rebel, and
I, I did what I wanted to do.
Yeah.
But I mean- ⦠I think
a lot of us did that.
But, like, if you- I mean,
I was, I was smart about it.
I was, I, I was Responsible and
considerate of other people.
If other people did not want to see me,
that was okay But you got out and about.
But I did get out and about.
Yeah.
Well, you have to.
Well, like, I mean, w- I was still working
at the church at that time, and so,
you know, we still met at the church in
order to do a live stream for a service.
And, well, and so I was helping with
the technical side of that, so I was
still able to see everybody for that.
Um, I worked from home,
so I mean, eh, you know.
I guess what depresses an extrovert is
like in a long period of time of just
being around the same thing Maybe.
Yeah.
For, for me- Well, 'cause you work from
home- For sure ⦠is what I meant, like.
Yeah.
Um, y- yeah, working from home is, isâ¦
That's a tricky, tricky bear for me.
Um, I do, I do make sure that my
downtime is filled out as much
of outside of my house as I can.
I mean, with having Mom now-
Mm-hmm ⦠it's a little bit harder,
um, 'cause I have to take care of Mom.
But it's, it's still one of
those things where I'm like,
"Yep, I, I have to go rec-â¦"
The idea that we have to come here
to record is, like, swell for me.
Um, these people who do their podcast
and they do it from, like, their
couch while they just, you know,
Zoom in and, you know, do theirâ¦
Uh, that is not for me.
We're never gonna be there.
Mm-hmm.
Like, if we, if we come at you from
somebody's house, it'll be Carrie's.
It's not gonna be mine,
'cause I'm getting out.
Yeah.
Well, um, so back to the Bible.
We're gonna goâ¦
I feel like we should just
start naming people that we
think- Can we just say- Yeah.
But- Oh, okay ⦠you know, I feel
like people maybe don't viewâ¦
I mean, our listeners do 'cause
they're smart, like you said.
Uh-huh.
Um, but maybe sometimes you just
think these are just characters,
but they were real people.
They were people.
Real people just like us, and
they had their personalities-
Mm-hmm ⦠played in, you know,
their backgrounds, their childhood.
Everything played into who they were.
Yeah.
So when you are reading the Bible,
just think, sometimes think about that.
Like, what was Moses's,
you know, life like?
What- Well, I mean, if you
think about it too- You know
like, no wonder he didn't wanna
go back and talk to Pharaoh.
Like, he grew up with him.
Maybe he was teased.
They got, they got into trouble together.
Mm-hmm.
You know they did, 'cause he was, he was
raised as a member of Pharaoh's house.
Well, and like, you know, he might
have been teased his whole life there
because he- 'Cause of the stutter, yeah
you know, he's like, "I don't wannaâ¦
That's my past."
He's like, "I cannot go back there."
"Why am I going back there?"
And he killed a dude and ran away.
So, like- Yeah, he had
reasons ⦠what was he doing?
Yeah.
He had reasons other than his stutter.
But okay, so I'm gonna name some, and then
you can name some, and then- Oh, Lord.
I mean- Okay ⦠or we, or I get
to name some and then we'll say.
Okay.
So, Daniel.
I think Daniel was an extrovert.
Really?
Why?
100%.
Stood up for what he believed in,
like, didn't back down for anything.
Yeah.
Wasn'tâ¦
Like, w- he was bold, beyond bold.
Mm-hmm.
Daniel was bold.
I don't know about that one.
Um- What do you think about David?
I think heâ¦
You know, I do believe that
your personality can change.
Yes.
I do believe that you grow in it.
I think he was an extravert,
extravert, extrovert, or-
Like at shepherd boy
time he was an extrovert?
I don't know.
Just like- 'Cause I feel like introvert
is shepherd boy time, and then he kind of
got into like, "What are we doing here?"
You know, and handled it.
He made a lot of changes then, because I
feel like in later in his life he probably
was probably more of an introvert.
Well- But that maybe happened because-
Or maybe there was just a season where
he was always introvert, and then
he just had his moments where he was
like, "I have to do this, and I've been
emboldened by the Spirit of God, so I can
handle this and I can get through it."
And then as, you know- I know ⦠things
kinda died down, he was like, "Phew.
Back to introvert."
There was someone else I was thinking of.
Um, it wasâ¦
Oh, Ruth
I think Ruth is an
introvert I think so too.
Yeah.
Now you name someone and we'll see.
What do you think about Esther?
Oh, man.
I don't know.
I don't know either.
I never thought about her.
I can't, I can't wrap my head around it.
Um, I would say she's an extrovert.
Okay.
What about Judas?
Dude, dude's an extrovert.
No, I don't know.
'Cause he was bad?
No.
No.
I don't know.
Let's think about him, him
outside of being tempted and
all of the- I don't r- was heâ¦
I guess he was kind of outspoken.
Um.
Mm.
I'm gonna say extrovert.
Not because he was evil.
No.
But just, I'm just thinking
about his personality.
I don't know.
I feel like he was on the
outskirts of the, the posse.
You know what I mean?
Like, I, the group of the 12
disciples, I feel like he was never-
Yeah ⦠on the inner, inner core.
Maybe.
So maybe he was just kind of like
flittering around the edges and- Mm-hmm
⦠and content to be there, you know?
Yeah.
I don't know.
Um, okay.
What about Abraham?
Uh, he, oh, he, um, this is
why we need video 'cause you
guys would have seen my face.
But, um, oh, Abraham.
I think introvert, and this is why.
Remember he's like- I mean, that
was my gut ⦠"Don't, don't
tell him you're my, my wife."
Yeah.
There was a- Tell him you're my sister.
There wasn't really, like,
there wasn't public boldness.
Mm-mm.
There was, there was private boldness.
You know, when he took Isaac up
to the mountain, that was bold.
Yeah.
But it was private boldness.
I don't know.
I don't know.
What about Elijah?
Extrovert And Elijah gotta be.
Yeah.
I mean, Elijah with
the, with the taunting.
Which is my, that probably
is my favorite Bible story.
Yeah.
Where's your God?
Where's your God?
Yeah.
The introvert wouldn't do that.
Like, an introvert- I mean,
they'd think it ⦠would not
be like ⦠They'd think it.
They need, they need somebody
to be like, "Hey, go say this."
Yeah.
They'd be like, "Hey,
extroverted buddy, come here."
"Go say it."
"This is what, this is what
we need to talk about."
And I'll join in after you say it.
Yeah.
I'll join in and be like, "Yeah, how
about I dump all this water on the altar?"
yeah.
But when you start reading the Bible,
I think you should, like really think
about ⦠It just makes you, maybe
you're right, maybe you're wrong,
but start thinking, like, these
people are deep just like you are.
They- They're real people.
They had real hurts.
They, they changed throughout.
Like, I mean, we, we have these
major transformation stories, Saul
and Paul and- Mm-hmm ⦠you know.
But everybody had a growth arc- Mm-hmm
⦠'cause every, all of them were human.
Yep.
So- So- We all have a growth arc.
If you don't have a growth arc-
After this episode, we want you to
type in the comments, tell us what
you are, extrovert or introvert.
Mm-hmm.
We, we wanna get to know you.
Not that we couldn't guess if
we knew you, but- ⦠I mean, if
we knew you, we'd probably know.
What you're gonna have now is people
putting, what do you think I am, Carrie?
It's gonna be a game.
Everybody's gonna be an introvert.
You're an introvert.
Like Carrie- You're an introvert.
You're an introvert.
Like Carrie, guess your, your personality.
Oh, geez.
That's funny, but- That is funny ⦠uh,
tell us funny stories about it, like if
you discovered this late in life, like me.
Goodness.
What's wrong with me?
What do you think about your brother?
Introvert.
I don't know.
Yeah.
I'm surprised at that.
I'm thinking about, well, he
was ⦠Yeah, I think he is mostly.
I think- 'Cause he recharges
by himself- Yeah, yeah ⦠and.
Yeah, I think so.
Like, just quiet and chill to recharge.
Yeah, I think all my ⦠Well, I have
two kids who are introverts and one
that is an extrovert, and we just
did not know what to do with him.
Yeah.
What?
Yeah.
What was this?
'Cause we're all introverts,
and then our last one came.
We're like, o- okay, he wants to
be out in front and with people.
Like, last night, went to a concert,
and I was like, "Okay, you're
gonna be back, getting home late.
You wanna go to school?
You wanna sleep in?"
I'm one of those moms that are
like, "You wanna take the day off?
You need a mental health day?
You go for it."
I've always been that way.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
And, um, he's like, "No,
I wanna go to school."
And I was like, "Why?"
I fully expected when I got him up this
morning to be like- You wanna stay home?
Uh, and, but he, I didn't even say
that because he was, like, hopped up.
He doesn't normally hop up, but he was,
like, hop- I think to prove a point to me.
But he was like, "Yep."
And I was like, okay, he's doing this.
Now, I don't know, right now he
may be like, "Why did I come here?"
Regretting his decision.
But he- Eh ⦠he likes his sleep, so.
Anyway, okay.
Well- Mm ⦠we thank you for joining
us for this little bonus episode.
Yes.
And tell us what you think about it.
Um, you know, we just thought of
this on the fly and we just decided
to talk about it, but- Yeah.
We decided let's, let's
explore this a little bit.
Mm.
See how it, see how it goes.
Yeah.
So.
Thanks for joining us.
Hope you enjoyed it.
See you next time.
Till next time.
Toodles.
