Welcome to the AHRN Minute. My name is Jenny Nielsen, and today we're talking about how to spot rental scams during a PCS move.
PCS moves often come with tight timelines and unfamiliar housing markets, which can make military families a target for rental scams.
Some common red flags include a rental priced far below similar properties, requests for payment before you’ve viewed the home, or landlords asking for unusual payment methods like wire transfers, gift cards, or cryptocurrency.
Before sending any money, take a few minutes to verify the listing. Try a reverse image search on the photos, request a live video walkthrough, and contact your installation housing office to help verify the property or landlord.
A little extra caution can go a long way toward protecting your money and making your PCS a little less stressful.
That’s your AHRN Minute, and thanks for listening!
