Hosts Kerrye and Jill tell stories about the Bible, talk about their faith, and dig into what it looks like to follow God through the ordinary chaos of everyday, imperfect life. Real conversations. Real stories. No pretending to have it all together. Pull up a chair, turn the page, and let's go.

Welcome back to Chapter and
Verse Junior with Dewey and Jill.

This is a fun place for kids
to learn about God, the Bible,

and how much Jesus loves you.

So buckle up for today's story
because this is one adventure

you are not gonna wanna miss.

Let's go

Hey Guess what?

What?

It's our first video.

It is our first video.

Our first video podcast.

Our first video podcast.

And it's about kids.

Well, yeah, it's about kids.

It's with you and- Yeah, I mean,
like, we beat the adult one.

We did beat the adult one.

We beat them.

We did.

We did.

Okay, so what…

We gotta make this a good one.

Okay.

What are we gonna talk about?

I know what I wanna talk about.

Okay.

In children's church they were
talking about offering and some

other word, I can't remember.

I'm just gonna be honest here,
I was not paying attention.

Dewey.

I wasn't.

So what have we learned?

We have learned that- I learned
that- … when you don't pay attention,

you frequently miss the plot, right?

Yeah.

Yeah.

I guess.

Yeah.

So listen, it was something
about something and offering.

Something about something and offering.

Yeah.

It was a weird word.

Could it have been tithing?

Yes, tithing.

Tithing.

Okay.

'Cause I do remember starting
to think about neckties, and

then she said that wasn't it.

Neckties?

I was like, "Why are we
talking about neckties?"

And she said I wasn't listening.

Well, okay.

No- And I wasn't … no.

Well, at least you were honest
enough to know- Yeah … like,

you, you were not listening.

Okay.

But I, I kinda zoned out
'cause it was kinda hard.

It was talking about math and percentages
and- … I just don't like math.

Okay.

I don't, I don't like math
either, but- I don't like it

tithing, tithing does have a little
bit to do with math, but it doesn't

have all the things to do with math.

I don't like it.

So you just don't like math.

Okay.

I just don't like math.

It's too hard to think about.

Well- So can you explain it
in terms I can understand?

I can try.

Okay, let's go.

Um, I think I'll probably explain it
in the same way that your leader was

explaining it, but if you could just pay
attention you might get it this time.

Well, there's nobody else in here- That's
true, but- … trying to talk to me.

Shh.

Okay.

Don't talk.

Okay.

So- If you're watching, don't talk Okay.

I'm ready.

So tithing is when we give 10%- That's
the part I don't like … okay, 10% of our

earnings, like our money, to God via the-
But I can't see him … via the church.

Oh, I interrupted.

Through the church.

Yes, you did interrupt.

Sorry.

That's okay.

So through the church, and then
God takes that money and uses it to

further his kingdom through the church.

Like give to missionaries?

To give to missionaries, to help people
in need, like all kinds of different ways.

Okay.

To keep the lights on, to be able to
make- Well, I like the lights being on.

Exactly.

Um, all of that happens
with people's tithe.

Okay.

So you give 10% of your
earnings- Sometimes, uh, it

depends on how much work I do.

I can get up to a whole $10 a week,
but a lot of times- So if- … I

don't make it there … let's just
say that you make the most you've

ever made, which is $10 a week, right?

Okay.

Okay, what would your
tithe be if it's 10%?

Do you know, or do you
need me to tell you?

Maybe just tell me.

Okay, I'll just tell you.

So 10% of $10 is $1.

So for, like, if you, if you
made $5, it'd be 50 cents.

Well, sometimes I'm saving
up and I need the whole 10.

Okay.

I need that whole 10.

I mean, it's fair- Can I just-

that you need $10 … do an I.O.U.

in the offering?

No.

No, that's not how it works.

Why?

Well, because if everybody did
that, then the lights won't stay on.

I guess.

And also, God can't bless you when
you don't do his, his commandment.

I like that part about God blessing me.

Yeah.

So let's, let's just go…

Tithing is a commandment.

Like, it's, it's, we're supposed to do it.

Part of the Ten Commandments?

It's not part of the 10.

It is, however, like, told
that we have to do it.

Okay.

Like, we're supposed to do this.

Um- Well, I wanna do what God says.

Yeah.

So in, we're, I'm gonna read it
out of the, the Bible- Okay … app

that I've got on my phone.

Okay.

So we're gonna look at the
International Children's Bible version.

So I can understand it?

Yeah, hopefully.

Okay.

We're gonna give it a shot.

Let's go.

Um, so it says in Malachi chapter 3, verse
10, it says, "Bring to the storehouse

a full- I don't have a storehouse

What do you think the storehouse
might be in this instance?

Uh, I interrupted you.

Go ahead and finish, and then I'll
tell you- Yeah … what I think it is.

In this instance.

Okay.

"Bring to the storehouse a
full tenth of what you earn."

The volume.

"Then, then there will
be food in my house.

Test me in this," says the Lord.

Okay, wait.

So the storehouse is probably the church.

Mm-hmm, yes.

Because he said, "my house," and
I've heard- Yep … I heard God say,

"My house should be a hou- a place
of prayer," or something like that.

Yeah.

So he's talking about the church.

Yes.

Okay.

Okay, so give it in the offering.

Yes.

So that he can eat.

Well, no, so that he has the
ability to help others eat.

God doesn't need to eat.

Oh.

Okay.

Make sense?

So give it, let, so that
the church can give it.

Correct.

Okay.

Yep.

Now get to the next part.

Okay, it says, "Test me in this."

Test me, that's what I don't understand.

We don't test God.

I think there's a s- part in
scripture, I remember talking about

it with my people, like Smartie.

Okay.

I didn't wanna say his name,
but let's just say it's Smartie.

Let's just say it's Smartie.

He said that the devil
tried to test Jesus.

Mm-hmm.

And he said, "Don't do that."

Well, except for in the
instances where God tells us to.

Again, this is, this is God
saying- Maybe he didn't say test.

Maybe he said tempt, now
that I think about it.

Maybe.

Okay.

Yeah.

So he said test him.

He did.

He said, "Test me in this."

I'm gonna make him sit
down and take a test.

"Test me in this," says the
Lord of Heaven's armies.

Okay.

"I will open the windows
of Heaven for you.

I will pour out more blessings
than you have r- " What are you…

"than you have room for."

Now what are you doing?

What are you doing right now?

I was watching the ha-
windows of Heaven open.

Have you tithed?

Not yet Okay, well then you
gotta wait for those windows of

heaven's blessings to pour out.

But have you, Ja?

Yeah.

But my blessings aren't going onto you.

Oh.

I mean, unless God just decides to,
to do it, but- … probably not.

All right.

So I'm gonna go outside and see the
windows of heaven open, and everything's

gonna fall, like, like that movie
about spaghetti and meatballs.

I can't remember what that is.

Is it the kids movie?

Cloudy With a Side of Meatballs.

C- Cloudy With a Side of Meatballs.

Just go out and see-
I- … some food everywhere.

I, I don't think that's
quite how he means it.

Oh.

But I ma- maybe.

I don't know.

Like, when the Israelites were
out in the wilderness, they had

manna fall from heaven, so maybe.

Okay.

What else does it say?

Um, that is the end of it.

I will pour out more blessings
than you have room for.

I like that part.

I've got a lot of room-
Yeah … for blessings.

But he, they also mention, um,
giving the 10% in Proverbs 3:9.

All right.

So it says, "Honor the
Lord with your wealth."

That's pretty sp- I'm gonna be wealthy.

That's pretty specific.

Like, that's, that's honor
God with your finances.

I like that.

Give him the first share
of all of your crops.

What does that mean?

I don't have no crops.

Well, the, for you, crops
would be your allowance.

Okay, so what do you mean, but the first?

That has to do with taxes.

What?

So, okay, do you ever…

I'll just, I'll speak from my own
experience with my own children.

Do your parents ever get, like, say,
say they get you some candy, right?

Yeah.

And when they give it to you, they
take, like, two little pieces of

candy- Yes … and they pay taxes.

I don't like that.

Okay.

Yeah.

That's my candy.

Most people don't like paying taxes,
but they take the taxes because

they got the candy for you, right?

But Jes- God wants you just to give
it without him just taking it, right?

Well, correct.

But also, God wants you to give,
like if, say your parents gave you

$10 for your allowance and said,
"I'm taking $1 for taxes," okay?

Just pretend.

God is saying, "I want you to pay
your tithe on $10, not on $9."

See the map.

It's kinda hard Well, that's- So,
okay … it's also called first fruits.

Oh, so

do that before you do anything else.

Yeah.

Before I go get my toy-
Mm-hmm … or my candy.

Yep, do it first.

All right.

Yeah.

So I got a question.

Let's hit it.

So, okay, two questions.

Try it out.

Let me see what we can do.

First question is, do I
have to be happy about this?

Yeah.

Why?

'Cause God tells us to
give with a joyful heart

Okay, I'll work on that.

Now, the second question is- The good
news is if you genuinely go to God

and say, "I'm, I'm not super thrilled
about this, but I'm gonna do it in

obedience, but I need for you to
change my heart about it," He will.

All right.

Yeah.

Second question is what if it's
there's the weeks that I don't get

anything 'cause I didn't do my stuff?

Well, you, if you aren't making
money, you can still tithe

with your time and your energy.

Like how?

Well, you can help out
in children's church.

You can get along with your
siblings or, like, Smarty.

You can, you can do all the things
that you know God wants you to do-

Ah … and really be purposeful.

Like obey the first time.

Yes.

I guess.

That's an excellent one.

And y'all clean up when the teacher says.

Yes.

All right.

Yeah.

Okay.

And I have another question.

Let me think.

Okay.

Oh, h- how does, have you, do you h-
know anybody who did this and th- I

mean, were you blessed because of it?

Um, I, I know a good
story of Pastor Kerrye's.

All right.

I can, I can probably tell you that.

So one time Pastor Kerrye decided, um,
through prayer and everything, that she

was going to tithe 90% instead of 10%.

So the Bible be giving $9.

$9 out of her $10, yes.

That's a lot.

Yeah, it is.

And so she gave her 90%, and then I'm not
sure how long it was later, but I think

relatively soon, um, she was blessed.

Somebody gave her a car.

So it's not always money.

It's not always money
It's something she needed.

Correct.

'Cause God knows what we
actually need, and a lot of

times that's not really money.

This is blowing my mind.

It's, it's crazy how God knows
all the things and will take our

obedience and make it fantastic.

He's good like that.

He's excellent like that.

All right.

That makes me wanna go home
and bust open my piggy bank.

You should bust open your piggy bank.

And count it, and then count out a 10th.

If you have not been tithing,
you really should do that.

I need to.

Yeah.

So when I get a gift, like a,
for my birthday, I get money.

You should tithe.

Anytime I get money.

Yep, you should tithe on it.

All right.

Now, also, tithing is, is
what we're commanded to do.

Offering is when we give
more than the tithe.

What happens then?

We're still blessed.

Like, more?

More blessed?

Yeah.

But that's not why you g-
You don't give for blessing.

You give to honor God, and He blesses you.

Then He blesses you.

Correct.

Well, I'm gonna try this out.

I think you should.

I mean, that's biblical.

The Bible says, "Test me and see."

I'm gonna do it.

Yeah.

I'm gonna see what happens.

I think you should.

I'm gonna try to be happy about it.

I think you should do that as well.

All right.

I'm gonna try it, and then I'm
gonna come back and tell you.

I look forward to hearing about it.

I got one more question.

What's that?

Will you take me to eat?

Yes.

Yes, I will take you to eat.

I'm really, really, really hungry.

What are you wanting?

So not just a S'mores Blizzard today.

No.

Okay.

Maybe after.

Okay.

I want some pizza.

You want pizza?

Yeah.

Okay.

I'm kinda craving that stuffed crust kind.

Stuffed crust.

Yeah.

Okay.

I love that stuffed crust.

All right.

What kind of stuffed crust?

Does it matter?

Cheese.

I meant, like, what, what pizza joint?

Oh, I don't care.

That serves the- Pizza's
pizza Pizza's pizza.

I disagree wholeheartedly.

I like any kind.

I feel like there are some specific kinds
of pizza that far superior to others.

I like a Distri- I like a Detroit
style pizza, obviously We're in

Arkansas I know, but you can get
Detroit style pizza here Where?

Little Caesars does one
And it's, it's- Where else?

… pretty good.

Um- I guess there is one place
I don't like What's that?

Little Caesars Well, I like their crazy
bread and I like their Detroit style

pizza, so that's pretty much it Let's
think of another place If you're going

s- for stuffed crust, I would probably
just go with the OG Pizza Hut All

right Can't go wrong with that, right?

Okay, yeah, let's do it
Okay Can we go right now?

Yeah Okay Yeah, we can go We're
gonna go I mean, if you…

Are, are we finished?

You've got all your
tiny questions answered?

Well, my stomach's growling
So yeah, I'm finished Okay.

Well- Okay … then I guess this
is our first video Did you like it?

Comment and tell us But don't comment
if you didn't like it Um- We don't

wanna know Yeah, we want notify,
like, or hit the notification thing.

I don't know.

They, they all, all the- Follow us.

That's what they

always say … all the YouTubers say
all the things- Go subscribe … and

I'm- And follow Yeah, I'm not, I'm
not hip to the lingo yet And maybe

you'll win a pizza card someday.

We should do a contest We should
do a contest Let's think about it.

@overpizza We'll think
about it over pizza?

Yeah All right.

I'm down with that.

We can talk about it All right.

We'll see y'all later All right.

Bye
