Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

Now go to Him, and ask that He will wash away your sins and give
you a new heart. Then believe that He does this because He has
promised. – Steps to Christ, pg. 49
“Nagyon sajnálom. I’m very sorry,” I stammered. Mortification
tinted my face to the colour of a ripe tomato. A few moments of
awkward silence passed, and finally, the short, round-faced woman
ushered me through the door, Dávid and Papa trailing behind.
“What on earth motivated you to do that?” she asked, a sigh
escaping her lips. I twisted my hands, unsure of how to apologize.

Creeping around the corner, I exchanged a nervous glance
with my buddy in crime: Dávid. Tiptoeing across the cement, I clutched
a container of lukewarm water and crept towards our goal: the white
Opel Astra. I fidgeted, making sure nobody was watching us. “Okay,
it’s all clear.” Glug… glug... Water gushed down the funnel, creating
destructive chemistry within the engine of the old car. I had just done
the unthinkable—poured water into a diesel engine.
Adrenaline and guilt pounded through my veins, and as we
scampered away. I hoped no one would know what I had done. Soon,
enough we heard the engine start, so we dove into the nearest bush
to see what would happen. Dávid had told me that the car would just
sputter a bit, and stupidly, I believed the self-professed “car expert.” A
few minutes later, Dávid darted away on an “errand,” during which he
told our father what I had done. Though shocked and disappointed, he
still came with us to apologize. After I had apologized, Pápá promised
that the engine would be taken care of at a costly €2,000.
Unfortunately, I am too often the same as that defiled engine. I
allow junk to be poured into my mind; it can be as easy as listening to
a song, reading a book, or even talking to friends. Yet no one is able to
see it—no one besides my heavenly Father. He has promised He will
help me, and He, better than any mechanic, cleans me out. Because
of what He did at the cost of His own Son 2,000 years ago, He is able
to give me a new heart.
