One Gospel Minute

God’s warning of “woe” in Isaiah 5:8 is a stop sign against greed and oppression in business. An obsession with riches dulls the conscience, robs spiritual devotion, and leads to judgment. Treat others right—always, and especially in business.

You know, when God says _woe_, He's not dealing with horses, nor is He dealing with little children. He means stop. He means cease and desist. Hi, David Hill with _A Gospel Minute_. "_Woe to those who oppress others in business_" (Isaiah 5:8). Is this divine advocacy for socialism? No. It's inspired instruction against an insatiable desire for that which is material. One can overwork to be rich, Solomon says, and lose understanding of that, which is most important (Proverbs 23:4). Is this sin? Most certainly! And it will be the condemnation, according to Jesus, of many in the final day (Luke 16:25). Notice that a love of the material world robs one of spiritual devotion and a good conscience. The love of mammon dulls the senses. Read the next verse, Isaiah 5:9. Judgment was coming to Israel then, and judgment is going to come to us someday. Treat others right always, and especially in business. That's the Gospel.
