The Department for Transport has announced funding to support cleaner and more reliable public transport across 25 local authorities.
Investment worth £143 million will be allocated to the local authorities to allow them to introduce 995 new zero emission buses. As part of this drive to decarbonise public transport fleets, rural communities will be prioritised.
This brings government investment in zero emission buses to more than £413 million overall.

Significant investment is being committed to ensuring that people across the West of England are able to upskill, with the combined authority committing its largest-ever skills boost.
Included in this is the training of an ‘army’ of retrofitters, EV mechanics and other such roles that will keep the workforce relevant as the region transitions to net zero.
Around 200,000 young people in the West of England will also be supported into their desired work, with £1.5 million of funding to support secondary schools as they plan to improve their careers education.

Norfolk County Council has announced that it has agreed on a budget that ‘delivers’ for its communities, despite ongoing local government challenges.
A budget worth £528 million has been agreed by the council, with this being set against a backdrop of significant cost and demand pressures.
The council has also committed to lobbying government to introduce multi-year funding settlements, and fairer funding for authorities.
