And here’s today’s news from Public Sector Executive – on Thursday the 4th July 2024.

With a new government set to be decided by the public today, whoever emerges victorious tomorrow has been warned about an imminent prison crisis.
According to a new report from Institute for Government, the new government only has days to decide on measures that will address ongoing challenges within the nation’s prisons, including overcrowding.
Suggestions for solutions that can give the government some time to make a longer-term plan include lower the point of automatic release for most offenders, allowing three-year sentences to be suspended, or allowing lower-risk offenders to begin their sentences under house arrest.

A report from the Social Market Foundation, £300 million worth of savings can be made by the public sector if changes are made to cloud licensing.
The restrictive nature of software licensing means that organisations are often locked into contracts that can become costly over time, however significant investment can be unlocked if those restrictions are removed.
This will ensure that taxpayer money contributes to tangible benefits and improvements across the sector, delivering value for money.

New grants have been launched to support grassroots organisations as they help young people that are at risk of homelessness.
Children’s charity Coram are providing grants worth £25,000 to organisations that will support those who are homeless or at risk of falling into homelessness to build their capacity and embed youth participation
The focus of the funding is to reach the young people that are the most disadvantaged and at the highest risk of homelessness, with this including those with experience of the care system, young migrants and refuges, as well as those from global majority communities and LGBTQI+ communities.
This comes with around 85,000 children in London being homeless and living in temporary accommodation.
