About Matters that should Matter to Men
Let's talk about weekends. You know, this morning, I caught myself reminiscing the nineties. This was the decade that marked my teens. By the turn of this decade, I'd embarked on my professional journey. Now in the nineties, the weekends used to hold a special place.
Arvind Vijay Mohan:They meant something. Not just merely two days off, but time that was truly on. Time on with your family, time on with your thoughts, time on just being. There was no overwhelming pressure to optimize the weekend. There was no guilt for resting.
Arvind Vijay Mohan:There was no self pin badge of honor just for being busy, for penciling out that packed checklist. There were Saturday and Sunday dinners, walks without any destinations. A few moments on the telephone, just a few, and those revolved around calling people using that revolver dial and not responding with WhatsApp emojis. I remember the pace being slower. We spoke slower, but we seemed to listen longer, and that felt nice.
Arvind Vijay Mohan:Life felt really full in an inexplicably beautiful manner. I remember several Sunday mornings at my grandma's house. My granddad would be up before the sun. There'd be coffee. There'd be the of the radio in the background, two or three newspapers for the day.
Arvind Vijay Mohan:They'd all be read by him before the children of the house would rise. There were no screens. There was no noise. There was just serenity. He taught me much, my grandad, but he never shared any productivity hacks.
Arvind Vijay Mohan:He never talked about balance. He just seemed to simply live it. Worked hard all week, but the weekend, that belonged to the family. The weekends were a mirror. They were sacred to recover, to rest, to recollect, to reconnect.
Arvind Vijay Mohan:Now the world has changed. We now seem to measure success in numbers. My granddad, he measured it in moments, in memories. This weekend, I plan to remember him and remember some memories and then create some memories. Maybe you will too.
Arvind Vijay Mohan:Do tell me about these memories if you do end up creating any.
