100xLife Podcast

In today’s episode of the 100xLife Podcast, Rob Dayton marks the one year anniversary of the show by returning to a core question. Why do the 100xLife Challenge at all?

Using a bold metaphor, Rob asks listeners to imagine Christianity as something that must be practiced, not just learned. He explains what it actually means to “win” at following Jesus and why most believers never train for it.

This episode reframes spiritual growth around multiplication, self control, and intentional practice. Rob explains how the 62 Day Challenge exists to train the mind, body, and spirit to live the words of Jesus in real life.

You will hear:
  • What Jesus means by multiplying His words
  • Four ways Christians “win” in the Kingdom
  • Why learning is not the same as practicing
  • How self control fuels real transformation
  • Why the 62 Day Challenge is a repentance strategy

Rob Dayton (00:36)
Hey, 100 X lifers, welcome back to the podcast. This is the one year anniversary. I am so excited. One year anniversary of this podcast. One year ago today, we were talking about why would we do the 100xLife challenge? So we're going to get into that. I want to kind of do a replay for this year. Why would I do the 100? Why would I do the 100 X life?

62 day challenge. Let's talk about that. Before I do, you can sign up for the, the 62 day challenge in the notes today. If you want to become a coach, you could, there's a link for that. If you want to your church joins, not too late. There's a link for that, but man, let's get into today and let's get into this celebration because the 62 day challenge is starting January 2nd. Some of you are listening to this and you've already done it. And you're like, I don't know.

to do it. I want to talk to you specifically. And for those of you who are all in, I want to talk to you. I would also say that if you are new to the 62 day challenge, in other words, you haven't done it before and you're listening to this podcast, it probably means that you haven't listened to the first podcast. So go back into your delivery system of podcasts and go back to number one, listen to that first, because that is the strategy for why you would do it.

But I want to up our concept, our mindsets today. I want to focus on why we would do this and why it is so important to do this. You know, when you think about Christianity, what if Christianity was a game? I guess you could say it is, or it is it. We could talk about what Jesus believed, what actually he said that makes it sound like a game.

But what if it was a game? Let's and let's go through some scripture on that. if Christianity was a game, how would we win as Christians? How would we win? The 100xLife comes from the parable, the Sower, where Jesus is talking about each believer receiving his words. And we talk about the fifty five and the 100xLife book.

a daily practice, but 100 X refers to the multiplication of his word in us. In other words, in the parable of sewers, some people don't actually multiply the word at all. There's zero production. And then some people multiply it 30, 60, 100 times what was sown. So in essence, the 100xLife

concept or process of Jesus following or multiplying his words is in fact a competition or it's a game. In other words, you can be very poor at it or you can be really good at it. And embodied in that concept of a 100xLife is that we are going to be really good at it. So let's think about this. Let's think about if Christianity was a game that we're going to engage in and we're going to multiply.

Jesus's words, zero 3060 100 times what was sown in what he says. How would we win? How do we win this game? How do we leverage? Okay, so I'm going to suggest some things from scripture. And you know, I'd say the first thing is we win by saying yes to Jesus is Lord, I think this is the obvious win, right? We have to say yes to Jesus to win. This gives us

access to eternity. gives us opportunity to live the abundant life Jesus promises. But if you don't say yes to Jesus, you can't have anything. So winning in Christianity starts with Jesus. I confess that I'm a sinner. I confess that I've fallen short and I want to take you up on that opportunity the cross provides to have eternal life and relationship with you. I'm saying yes.

And as we've said in a 100xLife saying yes to Jesus, but following is something difficult. So if Christianity was a game, how we win, of course, the first step is saying yes to Jesus. What would be another one? Okay. Well, let's go with the zero 30, 60, a hundred times what was sewn. We win by multiplying what Jesus has given us so that he can receive a return on his investment. So it's actually.

our job to multiply what Jesus has given us. Best example of this would be parable the sower parable the Minas you could also use what we just already talked about the parable the sower in these parables. Jesus is talking about what it's like in the kingdom. in Matthew 25 14 through 18, he says Jesus says, for it is like a man when he says it is like he's referring to the kingdom.

For the kingdom is like a man about to go on a journey who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. Okay, so in this parable, we are the ones that Jesus the King is entrusted possessions to. So let's back to the verse to one he gave five talents to another he gave to to another he gave one each according to his own ability.

And he went on his journey. So kind of interesting here is that Jesus is giving King Jesus is giving his possessions and trusting stewardship of his possessions based on our ability. So someone who has a higher ability got more of his possessions. Someone who has maybe a middle ground got a little bit and someone who had less ability was only given one.

OK, so after Jesus gone on a journey, the one who had received the five talents immediately went and traded them and gained five more talents in the same manner. The one who had received two talents gained two more, but the one who received one talent went away and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money. Scripture says he was afraid because he knew that the master.

reaped where he did not so, and so where he did not reap. like really interesting is that this one that hid the talent and buried it so that he could have it back. He was afraid he didn't want to engage in the multiplication process because in the multiplication process, Jesus is expecting a return on investment. Okay. So

You can see Jesus is spelling out that we actually win because we know what happens to the first two servants. They're given more responsibility, eternal responsibility. And the parable of the Minas They're given cities to manage and the, and the guy who only had one was actually cast away where there'd be gnashing of teeth. So he was, he, everything was taken away. He lost, he lost the Christian game. The other ones won because they multiplied.

what Jesus had given them. okay, so first one, we say yes, Jesus to we win by multiplying what Jesus has given us. Okay, three, I would suggest we win by excelling in the roles we have been assigned. And I would categorize those roles as a spouse, a parent, a worker and a steward. In other words, those four roles are specific to you, they're individual. In other words, your role as a spouse is different from my role.

I don't have your partner. I don't have your wife. So she's not my role responsibility. Nancy's my responsibility. I have two kids. Now I have four of me through in-laws and those kids are my responsibility to be a good parent. And then God's given me a job where I'm a steward of a business. So I'm a worker and then everything I own, everything you own.

is God's. He owns it all. God owns it all. And we are stewards of what he has given us. So winning is excelling in these four roles. The scripture for this comes from First Timothy 3:2-5. This is Paul giving instruction to Timothy on how to look for leaders of the Ecclesia, the church.

So he says an overseer then must be above reproach the husband of one wife temperament, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach not addicted to wine, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money, he must be one who manages his household well, keeps his children under control with all dignity. And then there's this caveat, but if a man does not know how to manage his own household,

How will he take care of the church of God? So there's this prerequisite for being able to be a leader in the church. I would say we win if we become a leader in the church. everyone can be a leader at the level they're called. And so we have to step into our roles. We have to embrace the roles that God has given only us. We have to steward that spouse. We have to manage kids in a in

and take responsibility of their growth and their ability to understand Jesus. We need to take responsibility for the work that God's given us to do on planet Earth, whether that's secular or kingdom or a mix. And then we are stewards of everything He has given us. We have to excel. We win by getting excellent in those roles. Okay, let me tell you a fourth one. I'm only going to give you four. There may be more.

I'm just trying to embed this concept that if Christianity was a sport, how would we win? It's just a metaphor. So number four, we win by letting Jesus and the Father dwell in us in a way that everything we do brings love and transformation to others. Yeah, this is my favorite. It's the it's the indwelling of the Father. It's the indwelling of Jesus. In John 14, he's saying the

the father and I will make our home in the one who obeys my commands. The one who obeys my commands is the one who loves me. This is what Jesus is saying. And then because he's making his home in us, we get to accentuate or experience their dwelling in us. In other words, if you say yes to Jesus, I think we

Most of us will believe that Jesus and the Trinity, they enter us and there, they be a dwelling. But that doesn't mean that you're experiencing them dwelling in you. There's actual specific ways to do that. That's kind of a 100xLife methodology as well, is that we would live the words of Jesus, that we would dwell in Jesus and

his words would dwell in us.

There's a verse that really accentuates this as to why this is so important. This is when Jesus is praying about us. Actually, he's he's finished praying for the disciples, and now he's going to pray for the ones who believe from the disciples.

Jesus is praying in John 17 20 through 21 and he says I I just praying to the father I do not ask on behalf of these alone but for those also who believe in me Through their word that they may all be one even as you father are Are in me and I in you that they also

may be in us. And here's the reason for that. So that the world may believe that you sent me isn't that the predominant message we want the world to know is that Jesus was sent by God to planet Earth and to accept him. This is maybe the gospel of salvation in Jesus's strategy to for how to live that well. And that is that we do the practice

of the Father and Jesus dwelling in us that we work with the Father to answer that prayer so that we may be fully one as Jesus was one. How many people can say that their relationship with the Father is similar or exactly like Jesus? I would say none of us are willing to confess that. Maybe some. I don't know. I'm not. But there are degrees of getting to that place. So winning

If Christianity was a game again, thank you for playing with me on the metaphor. If, if Christianity was this game, winning would look like, Hey, I look a lot like the father. other words, Jesus was mistaken for the father. says, Philip, don't you recognize me? Don't you believe that I am in the father and the father is in me. Don't you realize that the words I speak are not just my own. They're the father speaking through me.

This is in John 14. And so we want to be mistaken for the Father. We want our relationship with the Father to be so one, the relationship with Jesus to be so one in the same that love permeates from our lives. Love permeates from our lives in a way that invites people to know, wow, Jesus is Lord. I need to accept Him. So that is another way.

we win and maybe the primary way of telling people about Jesus because if you have this demonstration of love dwelling in you, if you say the reason for my life is this way is because of Jesus, then it has more credibility and ability to actually impact someone else. Okay, so I've given them to you. I'll give them to you again right now four ways that we win at Christianity. First, we by saying yes to Jesus is Lord, of course, second

we win by multiplying what Jesus has given us so that he can receive a return on investment. We win by excelling in the roles that we have been given by Jesus, in other words, spouse, parent, worker, steward, and we win by letting Jesus and the Father dwell in us in a way.

that everything we do brings love and transformation to others you can experience the father if you experience me would be another way of saying that we can get better and better and better at that. That's how we win. Okay. Why am I going to great lengths to get you to see this metaphor? Well, the next question becomes that if

If we're playing a game and we're playing on the field and those are the areas that we're going to win at Christianity, where do we practice? Where's the practice? How do we how do we go to practice at a certain time of the day and actually practice the plays of Christianity that the the opportunities to love the opportunities to experience joy, the opportunities to change our transform the way we think the opportunity for us to.

put on a new mindset that believes all things, all the things that Jesus is asking us to do. How do we practice those things? Well, the standard answers, here's the standard answers you'll get. And these are all great answers, by the way, I don't mean to demean them in any way. Here's the standard answers, quiet time. Pretty logical. move the quiet time is now a thing in terms of vocabulary, it means that we're spending time with the Trinity.

most of the time people do that in the morning, but you're actually having a time where you're sitting, you're praying. Hopefully you're listening. I would encourage you to journal as you know, reading of scripture, reading of scripture is another way to practice, right? You have to know the scripture in order to put the scripture into practice, attending church, going to worship, listening to sermons on how to be a better Christian or how to teach others to become Christians.

Bible study, studying the Bible with others. Also, one of the standard answers. These are all important. But practice implies that we are implementing what we're learning. some of these quiet time, I don't know, maybe could be a learning experience, reading the scripture, definitely learning experience, church attendance, a learning experience with worship, Bible study, a learning experience. All of the learning experiences are important, but practice implies that we're

implementing, we're actually taking what we're learning and we're putting into practice. Remember, this is the difference between a Christian who's a fool and a Christian who's wise in Jesus's terms. The Christian fool is the one who hears the Word of God and does not put it into practice. Conversely, the one who hears the Word of God, so studies, learns, and puts it into practice, that person is the wise person. So we want to be really good at practicing.

Christianity. So beyond learning, how do we do that? Where do we intentionally implement what we have learned? So you might say that this happens in ordinary life through circumstances. And that's true, right? You go through some difficult circumstances, adversity, and know, this, as the song goes, whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. That's true. I think for Christianity, we go through life circumstances. God shows up.

in our pain or our need and we learn to follow him. But how how do you attend a practice regularly? In other words, not waiting for a circumstance to hit you. How do you actually put it on your schedule to attend a practice for Christianity so that you win at Christianity? so this is this is the reason why the 100 X Life Challenge is to answer that question.

The 100X Life Challenge is a way for us to intentionally practice Christianity. So it's a way of learning and getting the words of Jesus into us, but also rating where we're at and then understanding the mindset prep of how Jesus grows us, transforming our mind to actually win at those four things. They're not just saying yes to Jesus, but actually multiplying what he's given us.

accelerate in the roles he's given us, and to have the Father dwelling in us in a way that we would be mistaken for him. That's where 100x life comes in. The challenge strategically positions you to exercise and practice self control in the areas of behavior and mindset that Jesus has called us to do. So you actually have this

exercise going where you're going to tell the body no, or you're to tell the body Yes, you're going to have the practice of self control. Self control must be practice self control, as I say in the book is the most overlooked fruit of the spirit. I don't think you can have the other fruits of the spirit if you don't first have self control, where you're controlling your emotions, you're controlling your will, it's self control is willpower.

It's the ability to overcome what the body what wants to do or does not want to do willpower or self control overcomes that. And that's how we say, you know, we're to give authority, we're going to hand that authority over to the spirit because ultimately we want our spirits to lead. So practicing looks like putting up against us these, these moments where our body rebels, or our body says, No, I don't want to do that. Or the body says, Yes, I want to do that.

They don't need to be sin situations or sin situations usually have that characteristic. In other words, the body's wanting or not wanting to do a thing. make false premises like I'm going to work out to two 45s a day or I'm not going to eat added sugar or you know, in my case, the 62 day challenge is kind of more of a lifestyle that I do on the daily. So I have to invent things that are hard for me. So for the 62 day challenge, I'm going to have a period where I'm not going to not drink coffee.

I'm going to be limiting myself in terms of any political engagement. did that last year. It was awesome and really impacted my 2025 because I was less inclined to be captivated by political discourse and conversations that has been so freeing. What is the thing that you need to practice? That is a better question than just taking the a 100xLife challenge rubric, which is a really good start for most people.

and figuring out what is going to confront my ability to self control. What is the thing that's going to confront my body's will to do a thing or to not do a thing? That's what you're doing is you're positioning yourself to practice self control, a fruit of the spirit, which is self control. That's what you're doing. The challenge is a repentance strategy. Wow. So think of that like

When Jesus says to repent, which is change the way you think, how do you practice that thing? Well, the 100X life challenge gives you the opportunity to practice by doing two things. It boils us down to the only the things Jesus said us to do, and then helps us understand where we're at and putting them into practice through our daily lives. So, wow, it's actually transforming

the way we think as we go through the challenge. It's I think it's hyper driving or supersizing our ability to transform the way we think, which is a key tenant. That's the first thing Jesus says to do repent, transform the way you think repent and believe. I think you can't believe belief is a mindset. You have to transform the way you think to believe the mindset he's asking us to do. So the 62 day challenge is a way to hyper focus on that repentance strategy.

And then the challenge is going to test and super size your self controllability. In other words, you're going to grow your self controllability. This is fascinating. We're going to talk about this tomorrow. I'm going to talk about this whole self control strategy and mindsets. We're going to get into it this week. I'm going to actually have a podcast every day this week, because I want to prepare you for this challenge and, and help you understand the practice. How do I practice?

off the field so I can win on the field of Christianity. Here's, here's another one. The challenge connects you to the voice of God. It increases your ability to hear him in real time. How many people want to hear God in real time? Well, I believe that was a reality for Jesus. He was hearing, he was hearing and speaking for the father. He was only doing what he saw the father doing. He said, I'm at work and my father's at work.

You know, I'm doing the work my father's asking me to do. So there was this synergistic ness. This he was synergized with the voice of God. He was harmonized. He was one with the father. We want that to you've got to get really good at hearing in real time. A lot of us, you might even come to this podcast or this challenge saying, I don't even hear God's voice. I don't even know what that is. And I'm not talking about the audible voice.

talking about the discernment in your imagination, your imagination space is where we connect with God. And and where wherever however that works neurologically, we actually connect with our spirit, we actually hear and get directed. your being is designed to connect with God and hear Him. But if you don't practice hearing Him, and getting good at hearing Him, how are you going to experience real time hearing Him?

So the 62 day challenge is going to position you to actually hear God's voice and practice that on the daily by doing journal prompts in the first person from one member of the Trinity. That's the practice that's going to get us there. Here's the final one. The 62 day challenge is a way of practicing Jesus' words that they may dwell in us. How are His words going to dwell in us? Jesus is saying, Hey,

If you dwell in me and my words dwell in you, ask whatever you wish and it shall be done for you. That is a crazy scripture, Jesus. And we have to know what his words are if we're going to put them into practice. So again, I guess a different way of saying it is I'm taking your scripture reading your church attendance and your Bible study and I'm narrowing it down to only the words of Jesus.

Because these are the non negotiables and these the words of Jesus we see the rest of scripture through the lens of Jesus, his actions and his words. And so we have to be intimately familiar with his words that they might dwell in us. How do his words dwell in us? They dwell in us because we're practicing we actually know them, we're able to resist the enemy when he comes and contradicts them.

We're able to refocus when we get lazy and distracted by the world. And ultimately, Jesus words in us is how we multiply the kingdom. So we want his words in us. The 62 day challenge is a way to get those words in us. OK, so in summary, if Christianity was a game and, you know, that might be offensive to you, I'm sorry if it is.

Jesus actually talks about that there's various levels of ability and receiving in the kingdom. That's just the reality of scripture. there's a variability of reward. There's rewards for some things that are eternal, and there's no reward for others. This is just how it is. So winning would be the highest return on investment for Jesus. And then how do we practice so that

When we're off the field and we're not in the game of Christianity. How do we practice off the field? That is going to be the 100xLife challenge. Dear friends, 62 days of your 365 is a drop in the bucket. And I will tell you, so many people have reported to me that they grew the most in the 62 day challenge. They grew closer to God. They got more self control.

more ability to take charge of their lives, to not be blown by every whim or circumstance that life bring us the the voice of the enemy or the contradictions that he brings. It was a supersize of their faith. So I encourage you to do that. We're to be talking about this tomorrow as well for the next four days, leading up to January 2nd, which is the start of the challenge. We're going to be talking about the strategy.

of taking the challenge. What's the strategy? What must I believe to be successful? We're going to talk about Jesus being the mindset God and how we can repent or transfer on the way we think more efficiently. another way of asking that question is what is your best 100xLife challenge mindset? How would I actually think to make the challenge work better for me?

That is an interesting question and there is an answer to it. Let's talk about that tomorrow. Hey, for your journal prompts for today, if you want to get into it, I try to give you journal prompts, people ask for those all the time. Here's a great one for today. Jesus show me where I have grown the most in following you. I love this question. Where have I grown the most? Sit with this have Jesus tell you you're journaling from the first person Jesus.

where you grew the most. And then the second question is what growth strategy are you asking me to deploy in 2026? You know, I'm making an assumption that question and I hope you're tracking with that assumption is that he's always growing you. He's not finished. We don't have a destination on earth. Our destination is heaven. On earth, it's a process of growth and getting closer to him and multiplying the things that he's given us.

as I subscribe today is, is the game of Christianity. But the growth strategy is the practice strategy. So you're asking Jesus what growth strategy Jesus are you asking me to deploy in 2026? That may or may not be the 100xLife challenge, but make sure that you understand where God is growing you. I'll tell you I asked this question last week, early in the week.

Jesus, how are you growing me in 2026? I got an immediate answer that doesn't always happen or usually happen. Here's the immediate answer I got is commitments. Rob, you are going to be active and strong in your commitments. What is the answer to you? What is the growth strategy? For me, it's going to be I'm going to pay attention to the commitments that I have decided and then I'm going to guard them as though they're gold, I'm going to have my word be so

precious and valuable in what I say I do and what I say I will not do. I'm going to follow through on commitments and when I break those commitments, I'm going to practice growth and learning how to keep more of the commitments and be more selective about the commitments I'm making. That is my growth strategy for 2026. The 100X life challenge is also part of my growth strategy. I'm going to be modifying that. We're to talk about

modifying the challenge to make sure it's appropriate to where you're at. We're to talk about this this week. Friends, I will see you every day this week as we prepare for this challenge. I am so excited to be with you on this journey. As always, if you have a question for me, you can always email me at rob Dayton at 100xlife.com. I'd love to answer your questions. See you tomorrow.
