The Good Pod

The Good Wife Season 6 Episode 9, "Sticky Content," turns up the heat on two fronts. Cary Agos gets summoned to the FBI, where a grainy wiretap of Lemond Bishop suggests his days might be numbered, and the agent who plays it for him is Lana, of all people. Kalinda hires Cary a bodyguard (hi, Deke from King of Queens!), which leads to the most awkward elevator run-in of the season. Meanwhile, Alicia Florrick's state's attorney campaign goes full Hollywood with David Krumholtz as a viral-hungry ad director, Frank Prady hands her a box of opposition dirt, and a joint interview with Peter sets up a limo confrontation you will not want to miss. Plus: the show finally addresses the "phone" thing.

Marissa: I'm good, Jason.

You

Jason: I'm good.

I'm good.

Uh, listen, I was a little concerned when,
uh, when I saw the name of the episode

was Sticky Content, 'cause I mean, to

Marissa: Ooh!

Jason: sticky content, uh,
don't know what that could mean.

But, uh, not exactly what I thought it
was gonna mean, but, uh, here we are.

Uh, episode nine, season six.

Uh, another episode where we're just
kinda sticking to these two, these

two main plots, two main narratives.

Uh, Carrie's campaign…
Carrie's campaign.

Carrie's, uh, upcoming possible jail

Marissa: It is a campaign
to not be thrown in jail

Jason: to innocence and, uh,
Alicia's upcoming possible jail bid.

I mean, her campaign.

Uh

Marissa: is jail when you
think about it though?

You

Jason: jail?

Marissa: what is jail?

You could be in your own jail.

Jason: Yeah.

You can be in a jail of your
own consciousness, the jail of

Marissa: Of your own mind.

It's everything

Jason: everything.

Who has the keys?

She's our social media manager over here.

Uh, she's pretty much our everything
manager, so she's, uh, this is

part, part of her duties here.

Um, so yes, uh, Marissa, with that out
of the way, let's, uh, let's… What,

what is, what is this episode about?

What are we doing here?

Marissa: Well, well, we are
talking about Kerry first.

First and foremost, uh, Kerry's
case is, is getting closer, is

looming closer to our trial date.

Last time we talked, I think we were
in the 50-ish days range towards,

uh, yeah, and now I think we're in
the two weeks or so range of things

because, uh, Diane and Kerry have been
summoned to the FBI office in Chicago.

Now, just note, if you watch
"The Good Fight," the FBI

office is something to watch.

Like, this, uh, it, it's a, it's
a main character of its own.

Um, but right now the FBI, um, officer
that we're working with is Stu from

the FBI, or as I know him, the dude
from "While You Were Sleeping."

Jason: Yeah, Marissa, you, you
were pretty, uh, you were pretty,

like, a- adamant and, and Ray was
like, "You forgot why you were

sleeping," in hi- in his credits.

Like, oh, okay, cool.

I, I, I'd never watched that,

Marissa: Okay.

It's a Chicago movie.

Jason: of course.

Of course.

That makes a lot of

Marissa: watch it.

Jason: of sense.

Who was, who, what was, what was his role?

Was it a big role?

Was he just like kind of there?

What, what was he doing?

Marissa: He was like Sandra Bullock's
neighbor and was trying to, like,

get with her the whole time, but
she was falling in love with Bill

Pullman because he had a good lean.

Jason: Oh, okay

Marissa: Meanwhile, what's-his-face was
in a coma, and he thought… She thought

she was in love with the guy in the
coma, and then she ends up, like, being

friends with the family and everything,
but really is falling in love with Bill

Pullman because he's a good leaner.

He's got a good lean.

It makes sense if you watch the movie.

Jason: Okay.

I feel like I have to watch this movie now

Marissa: So Diane and Carrie are
summoned by Stu, AKA the dude

from While You Were Sleeping.

He's also been in, uh, Michael Rispoli.

He's been in a couple other things,
but for me, he's always the dude

from While You Were Sleeping

Jason: Yeah, I mean, he's been
in "Sopranos," "Billions," kind

of like a, you know, definitely
a, "Hey, I know that guy," guy

Marissa: Yeah, yeah.

I was like, "I know you." Uh,
Alicia, of course, cannot make

it to this meeting because she
is just too busy, too important

Jason: just too wrapped
up in everything else.

I mean, l- if I was Carrie, I'd
be like, "Alicia, listen, just,

I don't know, like, do you care?

Do you care about me?

Are we friends?

I feel like, I feel like you've been
just kind of ducking out on me a lot.

I get it.

I get it, you wanna be state's
attorney, but I mean, I, I feel

like you're just kinda, just
kinda d- ducking out on me a lot."

Marissa: Yeah.

What's going on?

What's going on, Alicia?

Uh, Stu's like, "Hey, uh, Kerry, before
we get started, like, before the lawyers

start lawyering or whatever, uh, we are
bringing … We're trying to, you know,

put a case together with Bishop and we
need your help. And we need your help

so much we're gonna bring in this Lana
lady, and she's gonna play you a tape."

And Kerry Also, Kerry was
like, "F this," right?

Like, he was just like,
"What is happening?"

Jason: I should, I guess I should
have seen it coming since they are the

FBI, but I was like, "Oh." I was like,
this, this is the first of a couple

different awkward interactions that
Carrie will have in this episode where

like, "You brought in Lana for this?

Oh, did you, do you know this?

Like, oh, do you know this?"

And I was like, "Wow, does…" I
was like, "Does Lana know about

Carrie?" I'm not sure if, how awkward
this has to or should or has to be.

But apparently she does.

Uh, but she's, she's playing it cool.

She was like, "Hey, Carrie, Mr.
Argos. What's going on?" It's

like, and Carrie's just seething.

He's like, "Ooh, you, how dare
you walk in here with me?"

Marissa: I can.

But she plays, so she plays this
wiretap and it's got Bishop and

some dude on it, and basically
he's like, "I can't do anything.

My business is dead." And
his little friend man dude is

like, "I, you know why this is.

It's because of the lawyer, Kariagos." And
Bishop says, "Well, what are we gonna do?

He's a white lawyer.

They'll notice he's gone."

Jason: I mean, listen, it's, it's,

Marissa: He is not wrong

Jason: not wrong at all, right?

If he w- if he was a Black, a
random Black guy, it'd be fine.

Get rid of him.

But, uh, he's a white lawyer.

People are gonna be looking
for him if he disappears

Marissa: People will notice.

People will notice.

Uh, and the guy, the other guy is like,
"I got a solution." And this is all,

like, not 100% a clear conversation.

So we're, like, hearing
these little, like,

Jason: It's like, are we

Marissa: thing we hear is

Jason: was like, are we
in the '80s or something?

I feel like we should have better
technology to, like, tape, tape phone

calls than this, 'cause this is, like,
very Like, why, why is it so, so poor?

Why is the, the quality so poor on this?

Marissa: He's … The next thing we
hear is one to the back of the head,

and then the next thing we hear is,
"Okay, I want it done next week. Make

this the end of it. Phone me when
you have a plan." And I just have to

say, this episode is making so many

Jason: Oh.

Oh my God.

Marissa: great.

It's so

Jason: So meta

Marissa: fact that we got
phone me back, so good.

If you do not remember, if you are
just joining us, having not joined

us for the beginning journey of this

podcast, Others like,

Jason: it's a whole history of this thing

Marissa: It is a whole history.

It is a whole history, but phone,
phone me is definitely a callback.

I will just say that at this point.

Lana's like, "This was recorded five
days ago, and if, you know, he's

basically saying he wants you dead
next week, next week is this week.

So just FYI." And Carrie's
like, "Go…" I can't do it,

but he's like, "Go roast him."

Like,

Jason: Well, if you, if you ha- if you

Marissa: he's very gravelly
and, like, low this entire

Jason: have this, if you have this footage
of him, why not just go arrest him, right?

You, you hear him threatening me.

FBI's like: Well, I mean, we, you know,
he's not saying exactly he's gonna kill

you, but, you know, we don't have enough
to arrest him, but we have enough to make

sure that you know you should be scared

Marissa: Yeah.

Yeah.

And Carrie's, Carrie is, uh, like
refusing to play along this entire thing.

He says, "A little word of advice. Next
time you wanna get me to flip, don't use

the woman sleeping with my girlfriend."

Jason: girlfriend?

Your girlfriend, sir? Your girlfriend?

Come on now.

I feel like if any, if Kalinda heard that
she's like, "Your what? Excuse me? Uh,

I don't think so, my guy." I mean, just

Marissa: And this is my thing.

Like, Kerry, you know, you know Kalinda.

Like, this, uh, like you are, I understand
you're about to go to jail or whatever,

but, and you're being super selfish.

Like, what is this?

Jason: a s- this is a
case of he got it bad.

Like, Carrie's got it
bad for Kalinda, bro.

Like, he is, he is just
caught up in the Kalinda.

I mean, listen, who could blame him?

But, uh, he got it bad.

He's down bad, as we like to say.

Um, and like-

Marissa: he's also, like, I don't
know if he is or if he's just clinging

to Kalinda as a lifeline out of the
situation, and, like, wanting to claim

something and have something under
his control and all of this stuff.

Like, I think it's very
machismo in this situation.

I don't think this is like … He ca-
both things can be true at the same

time, but I think there is some sort of,
like, lifeline, like I need Kalinda to

be mine so that I can feel okay in this

Jason: I think there's some of that, but I
also just think it's the spell of Kalinda.

Because we also see later from
Lana where she's, she wants it too.

She, Lana's down bad as well.

Like

Marissa: Oh boy

Jason: gets down bad for Kalinda
by spending any time with her, and

Carrie and Kalinda's relationship
now has really kind of, uh, evolved.

Because, you know, at first it was just
K- like when, when the series first

started, it was like Carrie making these
like stupid frat boy passes at Kalinda.

But now that it's ac- they've
actually like been like, you know,

boinking for a minute, it's just
like, "All right, I need some, I

need some more of that in my life."

And Kalinda's like, "Bro, that's
not what I do." Here's the

thing, Kalinda, you do do that.

'Cause you, you get all these
people ensnared in you, and then

you're like, "Oh, nope, nope.

Don't want it.

Don't need it.

Sorry." So it's like, ugh,
like but Carrie's down.

Like Carrie has heard nothing
since Lana walked in the room.

All he's heard is, "Wa, wa, wa, wa,
wa, wa, wa, wa." 'Cause all he can

envision is Kalinda and Lana doing
whatever, and not in a good way.

You know what I mean?

Not in the way that I do, but in
the way he's like, "I can't believe

that, you know, sh- this woman came
in here who's boinking Kalinda.

I can't believe this.

Like how dare she walk in here
like…" That's all he's thinking.

He's not even hearing anything
what anyone else is saying.

It's crazy

Marissa: Does, yeah, he's, yeah, it's
just I don't like this version of Kerry.

Um, Kerry walks out, he walks out of this.

Like, he's

Jason: 'Cause he go, he goes, "You,
you, you, you don't have the woman

sleep with my girlfriend." And the
FBI guy's like, "S- it's like what?

Marissa: The what?

And I have to say, like, at this
time, and it's still now, but like

he may have just outed Lana at work.

Jason: Yeah, probably

Marissa: now like I just was like, okay.

Uh, Carrie walks out into the
hallway, Diane follows, and Carrie

says, "It's a fake because you-- I
know exactly where Bishop is." And

I'm like, okay, what are you doing?

How do you supposed to know this?

You're not supposed to be in Bishop's
world at all while you're in this

like very vulnerable situation, but
apparently you know exactly where Bishop

was on the day that this was taken

Jason: might have Kalinda looking into
Bishop's, you know, like goings-ons

Marissa: Yeah, but Kalinda didn't
know either until she was told

by Diane later in the episode.

So I just was like a little… Anyway,
Diane is like, "Okay, you could be right,

but we need to act like you're wrong.
We need to get you some protection."

So Diane asks Kalinda to give all
of her cases to Robin the ghost.

Robin the ghost.

Where the heck

Jason: We're gonna update.

We're gonna update that
Robin is still alive.

She still works for the firm, I guess.

We haven't, we haven't seen
Robin in person in, like, a

good five or six episodes.

It's just like, where, where is

Marissa: Where are you?

Jason: is she?

At least, at least it's good to
know we have some sort of proof

of life, you know, off camera that
she's still working for the firm.

Marissa: I mean, will we see her again?

Jason: I mean, if, if Kalinda's giving
her her remaining cases, at least she's

back to being an investigator maybe.

If she's not, she's g- been

Marissa: Not a receptionist

Jason: now that we're back in
the Lockhart Gardner building.

Um, but my God, it's just like,
wow, y'all is, uh, uh… Are

we ever gonna see Robin again?

I don't know.

We, we talked about it a few episodes
ago, like, are we gonna see her again?

Who, who knows?

I feel like w- I feel like, ah.

I know, I think I, on the other episode
I said we weren't gonna see her.

But now that they've name-checked her
back, maybe, maybe they're just getting

us prepared to, like, see her again.

I don't know

Marissa: Or there's gonna be, like,
a scene where everybody's together.

She's not gonna have any speaking
lines, but she's gonna be around

Jason: Maybe.

Maybe by like mid-season maybe we'll
see her again and they'll be like…

I wonder if we'll just see her to
like kinda usher her off the canvas.

Like, "Hey, I'm just coming to say
goodbye to everyone. I'm going back to

fricking Iowa," or wherever she's from

Marissa: Minnesota, Washington?

I don't know.

Jason: Whatever.

Marissa: to say Wisconsin for
some reason, but somewhere.

We're the Kurds, the lands
of, land of the Kurds.

Uh, yeah, so who knows?

We're on Robin watch for sure.

Uh, Kalinda says, "I need to get Carrie a
bodyguard." Diane's like, "Yeah, whatever,

whatever you need." This has gotten into
Carrie's head because the next scene

we see Carrie, he is in an elevator.

Elevator, elevator watch, but
there's no Kalinda, so, but elevator.

He's in an elevator, and he is basically
envisioning, seeing behind his eyes,

Jason: That you, which you can't

Marissa: himself … That I cannot do.

Seeing himself getting shot by Bishop.

Jason: Or by

Marissa: And so this is def-
by, yeah, exactly, yeah.

So this is definitely, like, getting
to him, and he is, like, very

suspicious just walking down the
hall to his door of his apartment.

He's just, like, looking
around every single thing.

I was a little confused as to why he
was that… Like, I don't know what he,

I don't know

Jason: he's, he look,
he's scared of everything.

Uh, you know,

Marissa: Everything.

He's scared

Jason: anyone can, jump out from
anywhere and, and whack him, right?

He's just like,

Marissa: That's true.

And then he gets

Jason: looking every- And did you,
like, did you see, like, the way

that this hallway was designed?

I was like,

Marissa: Yeah, it's weird

Jason: is this like us, like,
in a vision of in Cary's head?

Like, he thinks everything's,
like, warped and weird?

'Cause the way this floor was,
it was, like, a really weird

curved, sloped down slope.

I was like, "This is a weird design
for an apartment building, but okay." I

didn't know if this was, like, Cary's,
like, warped view of things where

everything's just kind of out of whack.

Marissa: and it was like gray hallway
and then like white brick hallway,

and then like he was, I don't know.

But he was definitely in his
visions because he gets a phone

call from Kalinda and is like
freaked out about it, and Kalinda's

Jason: know, he sees
someone in his apartment.

He's like, "Someone's in there."
And he was like, "It's me, dummy.

Come in."

Marissa: Just like he
did to her last episode.

Um, Kalinda has hired a Carter
from the, the Milwaukee Bucks.

Jason: Not just, not just

Marissa: it really Carter
from the Milwaukee Bucks?

I don't know.

I didn't look

Jason: No, it's not Carter
from the Milwaukee Bucks.

It's Deke from King of Queens.

I was like, "Oh my God, it's Deke from
King of Queens. Get out of here. Like,

what is he doing here?" Uh, listen, if
you, if you watched King of Queens with

Kevin James, you, you remember Deke.

He's, he's Kevin's big old Black friend.

I was like, "Oh, this is cool.

Nice, uh, nice seeing him again." And
I didn't even think about the fact, uh,

until I looked it up later, that we s-
we will see Deke in this universe a- as

a different person in, in, in Elsbeth.

Uh, he was in the, uh, the Wrong Stuff
episode about all the astronaut stuff.

Marissa: Oh, yeah, yeah,

Jason: and not the, not the only person
that from that episode that is in this

episode of The Good Wife, which we'll
talk about when that comes up, in the same

episode of Elsbeth, interestingly enough.

Um, but yeah, Deke from
King of Queens is here.

I was like, "Oh, it's Deke. Cool." But
I guess in this, in this version of the

universe, he was, I guess, a NBA player.

Now he's doing bodyguard

Marissa: A bodyguard.

Yeah, I was like, "Is he
really…" I didn't look him up

if he was really a player or not.

Um, but he is assigned Cary's
bodyguard, and Kalinda here says, "I

wanna see you alive." 'Cause he's,
he thanks her, you know, like, "This

is gonna be expensive." She's like,
"Don't worry, I talked to the firm.

They're gonna cover it for a week.

I wanna see you alive." This is,
like, pretty much the, the most,

like, declaration of care this-
she can, she can do, which is fine.

Jason: that's the most affection
you're gonna get from Kalinda.

"I want to see you alive."

Marissa: I want to see you alive.

Uh, so Cary and Carter go to work, and,
uh, they're in the elevator, and when they

step off the elevator, uh, there's Bishop

Jason: Oh.

Marissa: new lawyer, and
this is a bit awkward because

Bishop's like, "Who's this dude?

Why is this dude here?" And then Diane
comes in and is like, "Oh, I didn't know

you were also gonna be here." And Bishop
is like, "I guess I should have called."

Jason: Oh, listen, we've all
had those moments, right?

We've all had those days, you know,
where you walk out of an elevator, you

see the guy that's trying to kill you
with the guy that you hired to protect

from this guy trying to kill you.

We've all had those moments, right?

It's just, it, it's,

Marissa: Sounds relatable for sure

Jason: right?

Like, I'm like, "Oh. Oh my gosh, this
is, this is just awkward," right?

You wanna kill me.

I hired someone that, you know, was
protect, to protect me from killing you.

Like, I love the way that the
guy, like, when the, when the,

when Carter comes, he's like, "Oh,
you're the guy I'm supposed to be

protecting him from. This is weird."

And then Carrie's just like, "Oh,
shit." Like, I love Diane clocking it.

Diane's like, "Oh, shit." And as she w- as
she walks, she's like, "Oh, hey, Carrie.

Didn't see you there." It's
like, yeah, they get it.

Like, I just love them all trying
to play it cool in front of Bishop

Marissa: Yeah, Kerry's like, "Gotta go."

Jason: Yeah, and Bishop,
Bishop clocks this too.

Bishop's like, "Uh-huh, okay, you
got a bodyguard. Interesting."

Marissa: "What?" And the reason why
this is such a big deal is because it

could indicate that Kerry has flipped.

Like he thinks that there's some,
you know, need for protection here.

And so he calls Kalinda, and of
course the first question to Kalinda

after saying it is like, "Where are
you?" Because he's paranoid that he's

She's with Lana.

And she is with Lana.

Um, and Lana explains that Kerry put
her in a precarious work position

because of basically outing her at work.

And Kalinda's like, "Uh, being dead is
also a precarious position, so get your,

your values in check here, Lana." Um,
and she's like, "You know, unless the

tape was f- faked, Lana, this wouldn't
be such a big deal if it was faked."

And she's like, "It's not faked." And
so Kalinda says, "Well, let me have it.

Let me have the tape." So
Kalinda gets the tape from Lana.

Lana basically throws it at
her in a, like, USB drive.

And then of course, this
is what I don't understand.

I don't … I do not like Lana's
communication style, and I'm not saying

I'm much better in any relationships, but
it's like, "Here's this thing I gave you.

I want you to take this more
seriously." Like, right? Ev- I want

you to take this more seriously.
And, and she's like, "What?

I, what, what?" She's like, "No, I
want you to take me more seriously.

Don't come here tonight if you
aren't taking this seriously."

And Kalinda's like, "What?"

Jason: Cullen's like, "Oh my God,
what is with everybody else all of

a sudden wanting to be boyfriend and
girlfriend or girlfriend and girlfriend?

What is going on here?

Do y'all not know me?

Do y'all not know what I do?" But I
guess, I guess it's the fact that Carrie

called Cullen his girlfriend. That's
probably got her like, "Uh, excuse me?

Like, he gets a label and I don't
get a label?" Cullen's like, "No, no.

No one gets labels.

He's giving himself labels."

Marissa: Yeah, he's a little,
he's a little confused.

Um, so and he-- she also says to
Kalinda, uh, "Don't come by here

tonight because there are other
people I wouldn't mind seeing if this

isn't serious." She's like, "Okay.

Okay, fine."

Jason: Bro, like, I was like, "Oh my God,
these people are stressing me out, bro."

Like, I'm just trying to get my rocks
off, like, consistent basis, and these

people just wanting more and more and more

Marissa: Kalinda does give the, um,
wire to the audio guy, and this audio

guy is like, first of all, he is
playing quite an interesting part in

this situation because he is playing
the part that Kalinda usually plays.

He's going to explain everything.

Jason: the explainer

Marissa: he's the explainer.

But he's basically telling Kalinda,
like, "Hey, there's no edits here

in this situation, so I can't tell
you if it's faked or not without,

like, comparing it to someone else."

And she's like, "Well, can you do that?

Do you need that?" He's like, "I
like you, but I can't bend space or

time." And she's like, "Well, try.

You're gonna have to figure something

Jason: Yeah, this audio guy who is,
uh, Howell is the character's name.

Jason Babinski plays him.

And I was like, "I don't recognize this
guy, but let me see." I was like, "Oh my

God, he's in the same 'Elsbeth' episode
as Victor Williams, AKA Carter Grayson.

The same episode." Uh, this
guy was the victim in the wrong

stuff episode, uh, of "Elsbeth."

Marissa: Oh

Jason: And Victor Williams, AKA Carter
Grayson here, plays like the, the

guy that was leading them through all
the astronaut stuff at the facility.

I was like, "How is that, how does that
happen?" Like the same two people that

debut in the same episode get put in the
same episode of "Elsbeth" years later.

I was like, "That's crazy.

That's wild."

Marissa: There's some crazy coincidences
when it comes to, like, real-- or the

casting of the show and future shows.

Just keep your eyes open.

Keep your eyes open.

Uh, so he's like, "Yeah, I need some, some
time to be able to do this." Meanwhile,

Carrie is having this conversation with
Car- Carter, of course, of course we have

to have these two things happen with two

C's

Jason: Carrie, Carrie again starts us in
his, his m- his, his new best position

Marissa: Yes

Jason: staring out the window of his
office just contemplating his life.

Like, "What if I just jumped right now?

Like, what would happen?

Like, would I be okay?

Like, 'cause this is, this is crazy.

My life, my life right now is crazy."
He's just throwing his little pity party

Marissa: Yeah.

Yeah, and he tells, he's like, "Carter,
do you think I need to be afraid?"

He's like, "Uh, I would be, basically."

Jason: Carr's like, "Man, I just
work here. Like, can you, can you

not be asking these questions?"

Marissa: And then Kerry says, "I think
fear is what-- The f- like fear in general

is what's making me afraid." And I was
like, "Oh boy, he's going existential

here." He just is like, it's like being
in around cold makes you cold type of

thing is what he's thinking.

Jason: Yeah, but Carrie, the, the
code really, really is a threat.

Like, the code-- like, it, it's
not just a fear making you afraid.

It's, you have a reason to
have fear and be afraid.

Don't, don't kid yourself here.

Like, I think you think this is
less serious than it really is.

It's like, "You know
what's making me afraid?

The fears." But yeah, you have a
reason to fear, so keep being afraid.

Being afraid is not a bad thing here

Marissa: He, uh, says, uh, Carter says
to Carrie, "Phone Kalinda first." Okay.

Okay.

This is, like, crazy because it gets,
like, Carrie's mind be like, "Phone.

Oh, phone.

When did I hear phone?

I heard it in the tape." But then they
have this conversation about, like, phone.

Usually in America we say call,
and then, and then Carter's

like, "Yeah, you call someone."

Jason: I was like, "What?" I was like,
"Are y'all really serious right now?

Y'all are really being this meta with,
with…" Like, I was, I was blown away.

Marissa: let's explain it.

Okay, so at the beginning of the show,
like, well, I would say like mid-season

one into season two for sure, um, they
would always say phone each other.

So like Will would say, "Let
me phone Alicia." Alicia

would say, "Let me phone Will.

Let me phone Diane," all of this stuff.

And it turned out to be, r- correct me
if I'm wrong, Jason, a, like, inside

joke within the company, like within
the cast and everything because of

somebody on set that would always
say phone, or a writer or someone

in

Jason: I don't remember the

Marissa: that would always say phone

Jason: But we talked about
it, like, o- on the show.

Like, why do they keep
saying phone each other?

Like, what is, what is going on?

I think we did look it up one time
and it was, like, some weird thing.

And now just to bring it full circle,
'cause I mean, they dropped that,

they dropped that at a certain point

Marissa: yeah, they did drop it.

But then in this conversation, Carrie's
just like, "Isn't it weird?" And then

Jason: You were doing it
for two whole years, Carrie.

I'm pretty sure you also said phone
at some point if you went back to the

Marissa: He also said it.

Yeah, but they like don't
like close that conversation.

He's just like, "Oh yeah, that's
weird. I think I should go talk

to Bishop so he doesn't know that
I'm switching, uh, that I'm gonna

trip on or flip on him." And I was

Jason: Bro, that was so funny.

I was like, that is hilarious that they
actually, like, came back and talked

about the fact that they said phone
for, like, two years on their own show.

It's like, "That was weird, huh?"

Marissa: The, this was also funny when
Kalinda went to go check in with the

audio guy again, the audio guy's like,
"Okay, I got the situation for you.

What I did was I compared the timber and
the timbre." And Kalinda's like, "Just

tell me, is it a fake?" He's like, "Well,
what I did…" Like, "Cut to the chase."

Like, "No, just tell me what it is."

And he's like, "Okay, the tape is real."
Which is funny because at the, again,

in earlier seasons of The Good Wife,
Kalinda would be like, "Okay, so what

I did was I took this and I did that
and I did la, la, la, and I blah, blah,

blah." And so, um, the tape is real.

Kalinda calls Gary, who is at
Bishop's, and it's so funny

because he picks up the phone and
Kalinda's like, "The tape is real."

And Gary, like, puts his ha- head
in his hands and he's like, "Oh,

Jason: big old gulp moment

Marissa: Cletus is like, "Where's
Carter?" And he's like, "Oh, I left

him in the car because I wanted Bishop
to, like, know I was, like, serious

about this whole thing." Meanwhile,
Dylan, Billups, or Bishop's kid is

like, "Do you wanna play Red Hat Tat?

Do you wanna play this game?"

Jason: You know, and I th- I thought
the last episode, 'cause you saw

Bishop with Dylan last episode, and
I was pretty sure they recast Dylan.

Marissa: I think they

Jason: And now, and but now Dylan's
back to his original casting

Marissa: Maybe he just had like a…
Yeah, he definitely grew taller and

Jason: I, I think, 'cause I think
this Dylan is the same Dylan that

we saw like, you know, seasons ago.

But original, but like last episode,
I feel like there's a different Dylan.

Like, I feel like there was a--
Like when Bishop was talking to

Dylan in the car, I feel like
that's a different, different kid.

'Cause I noted at the time I was like,
"Oh, they recast, uh, his kid." And

now we're back to original Dylan.

I'm like, "Oh, okay." I'm not looking up.

I could be totally wrong.

But if I-- If, stand, I stand, if I
stand corrected, I stand corrected,

but I think this is the original Dylan.

Um, yeah, he's like,
"Hey, you wanna play?"

Blah, blah, blah.

Like, I, I, I'm sure Carrie's
like, "Oh, he surely wouldn't kill

me with this kid here, right?"

Marissa: at the beginning he, like
Carey's like, "Yeah, cool." And then

he gets the call from Kalinda, and he's
like, "Actually, Dylan, that was work.

I gotta

Jason: I gotta bounce, bro

Marissa: Peace.

Peace out." Uh, and Bishop's
like, "No, you can stay.

Like, I think we gotta have a
conversation here." And it is, like,

super-duper tense in this situation.

Bishop is like, "So, uh, what's
up with the bodyguard?" And

he's like, "It wasn't me.

It wasn't me.

Like, but I gotta tell you, I listened
to this tape, and I'm pretty sure you

wanna kill me." And Bishop's like, "I do.

You're right.

That is a thing that I said.

But listen, here's the
thing about me, Carey.

I'm a talker.

I talk.

I say things all the time.

I say things like, 'Take care of
the situation.' I wa- shut up.

I want this done.

Take care of it." It's very,
very, like It's very intense

Jason: It's very much, oh, Carrie,
oh, that… Carrie, I just be

talking sometimes, you know?

I just, I say stuff

Marissa: Yeah, but then it turns on
a dime because he goes to Carrie,

"You won't turn on me, Carrie, will
you?" And Carrie's like, "No, never."

Jason: He's very much like Carrie.

Ca- Carrie, I, you know, I should
be saying stuff, but, uh, yeah,

but, but for real though, like
I will, I will effing kill you.

Like

Marissa: Yeah.

And then they're like, "All good. All
good." And Bishop before, like, it's

like shoulder to shoulder, and you can
… Like, he's definitely standing above

Cary 'cause Cary's a little bit shorter.

But he's, like, intimidating him a
little bit, and he says, "Cary, you

don't hurt me, I won't hurt you."

Jason: Mm. Listen.

Marissa: Cary's like, "Okay, bye."

Jason: All right, I'll see you later.

'Cause I mean, Carrie's like at
first she's like, "Oh, yeah, f- yeah,

Bishop, me and you, we're good, right?

We're good." Bishop's like,
"Yeah, we're good, we're good.

But seriously though, don't
run your fucking mouth, okay?

Marissa: Don't do it.

Don't do

Jason: I, if I have to, if
I have to, I will hurt you."

Like, oh, okay.

We're not, we're not buddy-buddies
any… Or, uh, s- so I, I got you.

I got you, I'm out of here.

I, and listen, I was so concerned 'cause
Carrie's like, "Yeah, I left Carter

in the car." And I was like, "Please.

Pl-" I was like, "Please, please,
please." 'Cause we, we know, we know

Carrie recently has a knack for getting
Black people killed that are around him.

And I was like, "Please let him go back
to that car and Car- and Carter's dead.

Please.

Marissa: of ally

Jason: Yeah.

Please, please, please." So
like, I thought like Bishop was

gonna like send him a message or
something like, "Yeah, you got a

bodyguard, but I, F that bodyguard.

I can kill that bodyguard too." 'Cause
like, and literally Carrie goes back into

the car, he's talking to Jacinda, and
Carter is just staring straight ahead.

I was like, "Is Ca- is Carter dead?"
Like, is, is Carrie gonna be like,

"All right, Carter, let's go." And
Carter's gonna be like, like just

sitting there 'cause he's dead?

Marissa: all of this stuff.

Okay, so he's on the phone with
Kalinda, and Kalinda's like, "So

what happened?" And he's like,
"Well, oh, we're good." Like, he

said he was just joshing basically.

Like, he was just, like, messing around.

Jason: said it, but he didn't
mean it though." Kirill was like,

"What you mean he didn't mean it?"

Marissa: Yeah, but Kalinda--
And I'm with Kalinda here.

She's like, "What the hell, Cary?

Like, how can you not take this seriously?

Like, what is going on?" And then,
like, the next scene, Kalinda's like

to Lana, "I take you seriously."

Jason: Yeah.

She's like, "Ah."

Marissa: Uh

Jason: She's like, "Whatever I gotta
say, yes, I take you seriously."

Marissa: take you seriously.

It's not easy, but I do.

And in the end, uh, Lana does
get called in to see if there…

Because the, the tape got leaked,
so they have questions for her

Jason: I was like, I wasn't
really sure what this meant.

Like, how do they know it got leaked?

Did Kolinda snitch on Lana?

Like, what is, what is happening here?

Marissa: Yeah.

I don't know.

But, uh, moral of the story, don't
turn on Bishop and he won't kill you.

He may turn on you, but he won't kill you.

Jason: do that.

Marissa: So it's definitely
heating up before the trial.

That's basically what we
got out of the storyline.

Um, what else was going on?

What else could be going on, Jason?

The campaign

Jason: Yeah, it's Alicia's biggest
priority at the moment, not her, uh, law

partner that might be going to jail, but
it's, uh, she wants to be state's attorney

Marissa: S- she real, like she just
found that she really wants to.

Uh, and it's time to put together ads.

So we've got an ad team here, and
we've got different clips p- playing.

She's basically like, I think in the
same coffee shop that Peter was in when

he said that he would, like, legalize
marijuana because he's been in jail.

Like, it's the same, the same thing.

And she's like, "I remember going
out on the streets, and I could go

trick-or-treating." And some guy asked
them, like, you know, like, "If it's n-

it's not one thing, it's everything."
And she-- "So how would you handle

everything?" And her answer is the
broken window theory that basically

says that one broken window can, like,
start a firestorm of crime, basically.

Jason: It was like the domino

Marissa: And I was like, I was like,
"That is the most, like, white supremacy

type of thinking I could think of." Like,
like it's like 'cause it's not perfect.

Like, you know what I mean?

Like, oh my God, the window's
broken, the- we're gonna have crime.

Like, I don't, I, I don't a-
I don't agree with the broken

window theory, but she's running.

I'm not

Jason: I was like, "Am I stupid?"
Or did that, that not answer

the question the man was asking?

I guess

Marissa: Oh, no,

Jason: I guess that's supposed to
be like the thing of like, how do

you answer an impossible question?

And Alicia's like, "Watch me, bro.
Watch me. I'll say some random ish,

and that'll get me out of this."

And everybody's like, "Oh,"
like E- Eli and, and Elfman are

like, "Oh, golf clap, golf clap.

She did good on that.

Good job.

Good, good way to, to pivot.

Pivot."

Marissa: Um, before we go any
further, we should talk about the

director of this, um, commercial

Jason: David Krumholtz, who's
like, you know, big, big, y-

big guy in, in the Hollywood.

Not, I mean, listen, not big guy,
but he's been around for a long time

Marissa: It's Bernard the elf, you guys

Jason: Oh yeah, that's right.

Uh, yeah, no, I remember that now.

Uh, so

Marissa: in, in C

Jason: yeah, no, Santa Claus.

Uh, so he's been around
Hollywood for quite a while.

You-- If you watched his, his show Numbers
from back in the day, uh, that was his

like big, you know, I guess longest
running, uh, vehicle that he's out there.

So he's, he's been, he's
been around for a long, long

Marissa: He just recently said that
he was quitting acting, but then said,

"Just kidding, maybe not." I don't

Jason: the most recent Superman--
Supergirl movie as well

Marissa: Well, but he put out like an
Instagram post within like the last

three weeks or something like that
saying like, "I'm over Hollywood.

I'm done. I've given so much to it."

Jason: David, you're cool.

Marissa: also in the studio,

Jason: I mean,

Marissa: so I-

Jason: David, you're cool, but I
mean, I, I don't think you need to

announce to everybody you're leaving.

I think we just…

Marissa: But he's Bernard the Elf.

Jason: Yeah, I mean, y- you can go, David.

Marissa: The girls get it,

okay?

The girls get it

Jason: The girlies get it.

We'll be fine.

Uh, but I love, I love what he did
here in this episode of The Good Wife.

It was so funny

Marissa: He is definitely
like the quintessential,

like, campaign ad director.

Like he is very much going for the
virality, going for the big hits.

Uh, we get a clip of Peter in here while
he's l- and he also talks to an editor,

like the editor can make magic in like
two seconds, like this entire time.

He's like, "Do this,
throw this, blah, blah."

We get this clip of Peter,

Jason: Ага

Marissa: um, talking about
Alicia, and he says, "The key

is caring, and Alicia cares.

And I just think that like the office of
s- of state's attorney is so overwhelming

that we can totally… Like Alicia's
somebody who can handle it." And then

they ask him about Frank Pretty, and
Ramona is like, "Don't say anything mean

about Frank because he's got a big brand
and it could hurt you politically."

And so Peter's like, "I like
Frank, but Alicia's better."

Jason: I mean, listen, you did
the perfect political move there.

You know, kind of both sides is it.

Um, I, I did love it when like
the, the director guy is like

telling this guy, telling this guy
different things of like what to do.

He's like, "Make that guy nod." And
the guy's like, "Well, he has tics.

That's not really nodding."

He's like, "You'll make it work."
And he's pr- the guy proceeds to

like r- not make it work at all.

He's just like, the guy nodding, he's
like, "Uh, uh, uh," like he's glitching.

And I was like, "That's, that's
not good." Like, does anyone else

Marissa: Okay, here's the thing.

I'm gonna stick up for my post-production
peeps when it comes to production.

Having done very minimal but production
work, post-production, everyone is

like, "We'll fix it in post. We'll
do it in post." No, never, never.

Get the nod.

If you need a nod, just ask the
man a question and say yes or…

Y- you know what I mean?

Like, never just put this all
on the shoulders of this little

editor guy who is doing the best he

Jason: He's like, "Make him nod." He
was just like, "Eh, eh, eh, eh." I was

like, "That's what you're gonna use?

That's not really a nod, but okay."

Marissa: They want to transi- transition
to talk about the shooting, so they

bring in Finn, and Finn's like, "I
don't really wanna talk about it." And

then they go, "This is for Alicia, so,
like, anything you would tell us…"

And he's like, "Oh, well, in that
case, I was with Will." "Will who?"

"Will Gardner." And he starts talking.

Marissa's li- Marissa has opinions,
of course, throughout this whole

Jason: All Marissa's do.

All Marissa's do.

Marissa: it's true.

It's part of her nature, I feel.

Um, and she's really clashing
with director man along this.

And Alicia is like, "Don't use,
don't use the shooting. Like,

use the scandal. Instead, talk
about how I took care of my kids."

And while this is going on, Alicia's
like… Or they're, like, trying to put

the courtroom scene together, and they're
talking about, like, what music to put on.

And Marissa's like, "This is just so
corny. It would be better with the Titanic

music at this point." Um, so point of
the story here is they're trying to

put together this, like, introductory
ad type thing, a 10-minute ad.

Um, and they need Finn, they need
Peter, and they need Peter so much

that they need to set up a joint
interview with Peter for this ad

Jason: I've gotta be real honest with you.

I don't think I've ever seen an ad for a
state's attorney's race ever in my life.

It's, I just feel like it's something that
it doesn't, like, come across my desk.

You know what I mean?

Marissa: Um, I'm trying to think.

I think I have, but I think
it's a bigger… I don't know.

I think it's a bigger deal in like… I, I
should ask someone in Chicago if they see

Jason: Yeah, I feel like if I looked
for it, I'd find it, but it's just not

something that naturally comes to me

Marissa: Yeah, I think the show
is trying to just talk about like

how polit- like political ads in
general, but y- yeah, I think you're

Jason: Like I, I think they, I, I think
they exist, but it's just like they're

talking as if it's presidential ads.

Like it, like it's that important.

I'm like, I'm sure like Ren-
like Joe Q, AKA me in my life, is

never gonna see this ad, Alicia.

Like I'm pretty sure the people that
are gonna see this ad already know

who they're gonna vote for anyway.

Marissa: Meanwhile,

Jason: nothing.

Marissa: Frank goes to
visit Alicia at work.

Just, like, pops up.

He's a big, like, stop by guy.

He just, like, stops by and he's
like, "I know my campaign manager's

not here and neither is yours,
but let's live dangerously."

Jason: I re- I really like
David Hyde Pierce in this

Marissa: yes

Jason: I think he does a great job.

I, like, it's such a blind spot.

Like, season six and seven
are such blind spots for me.

Like, I just don't-- I never
recalled David Hyde Pierce

being a big part of this show.

And like, I just, it's, it's so
weird to me that, because I'm

pretty sure I watched the show.

It was seasons six and seven.

Like, how do I not remember
that this was a part of it?

Like, David Hyde Pierce played this role.

He played it so well.

Like, I love how he kinda juxtaposes
with, like, a, a Mike Cristeva, right?

Cristeva was a very, like, in your
face scumbag guy who wouldn't--

doesn't care if, if you know
that he's a scumbag or not.

And then you have Frank Prady, who's just
kinda like, "Aw, shucks," like, "I'm a

good guy." Like, I, I think-- And, you
know, underneath is definitely something

else, but he's just like, "Ah, what?

Me?

No, I'm just a good guy who
wants to run a clean campaign."

Marissa: Yeah, 'cause he stops
by with a box of dirt for Alicia,

basically everything that Castro
had collected or said everything he

said he collected, um, in this box.

And he's like, "Listen,
I'm not gonna use it.

I'm not gonna use it.

I wanna be a different
type of cam- candidate.

I will not go negative." And Alicia's
like, "You're three points up.

Of course you don't wanna go negative.

Like, you don't want me to do anything
to kinda ta- bring you down." He's

like, "No, I mean it so much that if
you see something you don't like from

my campaign, here's my personal number.

You can call me whenever." And,

Jason: like, even my campaign
managers have this number.

Like, why would your campaign

Marissa: He…

Jason: personal cell number?

That doesn't make any sense, but

Marissa: Also, like, who
are you, Frank Prady?

You know what I mean?

Um, like how many phones
do you really have?

Like, no.

Um, he says to her, "I'm not your
enemy." And she says, "I know.

You're my opponent." Uh, so with this
box, Alicia, Alicia's doing the best to

not go by it, but she pours herself a
glass, glass of wine, like does her full

skincare routine, kind of stalls as much
as she can, and then she breaks into it.

And, um, I think she is, like
enticed because the Gorilla

Boy ad is in the background,

Jason: What is

Marissa: which is, I think
that's an ad that the director

is supposed to be known for.

Jason: Oh, okay

Marissa: I don't really know what
that is, but that, that's what it is.

Um, and he… She pulls out a,
the photo of Finn leaving her

house, which we expected to see.

But then there's a picture of
Peter and Ramona out to dinner.

There's a picture of Ramona leaving
Peter's house after a picture

of Peter without a shirt on,

Jason: And without

Marissa: really need to see.

Yeah.

Uh, and okay, then there's this
crazy, in my mind, phone exchange

because Alicia calls Peter.

First of all, she calls
all of the numbers.

She calls him, and then Peter picks up
the phone and says, "This is Peter." Like

Jason: Yeah.

So first of all, she grabs
the phone and starts dialing.

Deet, deet, deet, deet,
deet, deet, deet, deet.

I'm like, "Don't you have his number
saved?" Like, shouldn't it take,

like, one or two button pushes?

And then yeah, so he goes
like, "Hello?" And I was like

Marissa: No, he says like, "This is
Peter." That is not how you answer

the phone when you know, like, it is
going to say Alicia on the other end.

So, uh, she's like, "Uh, yeah,
um, joint interview maybe?"

Jason: Well, I

Marissa: he's like, "Yeah,
I got time tomorrow."

Jason: she, she sees his picture, she's
like, "Oh, this, this motherheffer,

I know he ain't already stooping to
help." Like, "Let me, let me call him

and tell him by himself." And so she's,
she dials the number, like literally

dials the number for some reason, and
is, is like about to give it to him

and she's like, "No, you know what?

This is better in person.

Let me just, let me keep it cute
right now." Like, "Oh, hey, yeah.

Let's do a joint interview.

How about that?

Huh?

Okay, great.

See you then." And just like, "Oh, I'm a--
I'm sorry, planning and plotting what I'm

gonna say to this man when I see his ass."

Marissa: Back at the ad team, they are
working on an, an attack ad on Frank,

basically calling him a dino, AKA a
Democrat in disguise only, or in name only

Jason: Yeah, I was like, "Oh, they
had… Th- this was a term before, um,

you know, recent events." I was like,

Marissa: Before people were
paying attention really

Jason: know this was
a, a thing before that.

I- like, I heard of rhino, but not dino.

Interesting.

Marissa: Um, basically the premise of this
ad is saying that Frank is an egomaniac.

He switched sides.

He's, like, really has conservative values
underneath the name of being a Democrat.

Alicia does not like this up until
this point, and also he is being

positioned as a dinosaur that's
attacking a playground of children,

and I just love little David Hyde
Pierce's face on top of this dinosaur.

Um, Melissa's laughing at the ad,
so, like, the director, I don't

really know his name, director dude

Jason: have his, his name,
they said his name one time.

It's, uh, Josh Mariner

Marissa: Oh, well Josh is like, at least
Melissa or Marissa's laughing, "Ha ha

ha ha." Uh, you gotta be noisy on the
internet to attract eyes, and you said no

to the shooting, so this is what we got.

But then the ad turns, in my opinion,
real bad because he-- they positioned

the dinosaur dude coming home and
transitioning back to his true self

that he hides from the rest of the
world, basically suggesting that DHB's

character, Frank, is a closeted gay man.

That ages this a bit, I think.

I think.

I mean, I guess I wouldn't put
it past anybody in this political

camp, like environment, but
I just was like, "Ugh, ugh."

Um, and basically, again, if you've
watched, uh, any TV, usually they'll try

to say that gay people are inauthentic or
can lie because they've had to lie about

who they are in front of other people.

Um, so basically saying
that he's in-inauthentic.

And then Josh, Director Josh is
like, "And I got two guys who swear

that he had an affair with them."
So Elise is like, "Uh, we cannot.

We cannot use this.

Hey, Elfman, can I talk to you?

John Elfman, can I talk to you?"
And Marissa's like, "I'll leave.

I'll get you some milk."

And Elise is like, "I
don't need any milk."

Jason: Like, "Bruh, stop with the milk."
'Cause the first time we saw Recessa,

her bio was she wanted to give her milk.

Like, I don't want nor need milk

Marissa: I think it's
Big Milk, uh, ad buys.

I really do.

Like, what is with this

Jason: It's like, uh, I don't
know if you've heard, but

milk does your body good.

Marissa: Does the body

Jason: Okay?

I don't know if you heard.

You, you need milk in your life, Alicia.

You look like, you look like
you got some soft bones.

You need to harden your bones up

Marissa: So Alicia tells John
about the box and, um, John

is like, "Look, he's ahead.

This is what they do.

They always… They're gonna use it.

Like, don't, don't think about it.

Just give it to me.

Don't even think about it." And Alicia's
like, "But I, I believe he's a good man,

and I believe he's not gonna use this."

Jason: Elphaba goes, "Did you look
in the box?" She goes, "Uh, no.

No, I didn't.

I didn't." "Liar!"

Marissa: Okay, then I'm gonna get on my
little Chicago soapbox here for a minute.

Uh, Alicia and Frank meet outside, okay?

And I know we have discussed how this
is filmed in New York City, but you

do not need to be so weird as to put a
blues band on the corner of the street.

That has never, like, happened in Chicago.

Like, there's not a blues
quartet on the side.

Yes, we do have blues music.

Yes, we are known for Buddy Guy.

Yes, there is, like, blues places to
go, and we have a whole Blues Fest.

But just to put blues music in it
to suggest that you're in Chicago

was a bit over the top for me.

Jason: Did you notice, did you notice
that Frank is wearing a wedding ring?

Like, at least he has a
ring on his left hand.

I was like, "Continuity error?"
Like, what's, what's happening

Marissa: No, because I think later they
talk about how he was divorced and he

may still be, like, wearing his ring.

Jason: Why?

Marissa: about him, like,
to, for the, for the image.

So is Alicia

Jason: But I mean, Alicia's
still technically married.

This

Marissa: Yeah,

Jason: divorced for 10 years, they say,

Marissa: Oh, for 10 years?

Oh, then I don't

Jason: like, "Why is he wearing a
ring?" I was just wondering, like,

is this like a continuity error?

Did they come up with that whole
divorce thing, like, you know, after

they already filmed this and was
like, "Well, no one will notice.

It's, it's fine."

Marissa: So then this conversation
of Frank is like, "I already

know they're gonna try to, like,
say that I'm a closeted gay man.

But here's the thing, Alicia, like, if
you leak that, then, um, when you leak

the-- or when you talk about the, the
shooting, we're gonna talk about the

fact that you were sleeping with Will.

So it's up to you really.

It-- But I'm not gonna go negative.

I'm not gonna go neg-negative."
She's like, "What are you gonna

do?" And he's like, "I'll talk to
my pack." She's like, "What is that

gonna do?" I'm like, "Yeah, exactly.

What is that gonna do?

This is the system of elections.

This is just how it goes." Um, and so
when she leaves, she does leave her

personal-- her business card to kind of
give her-- give Frank a way to contact

her that's not necessarily known.

Okay.

Now we sit down for this joint interview.

Okay.

We've got Peter, or we got Alicia come
in in first, and John tells Alicia, "Hey,

like, what we need here is connection.

We need you… Like, any phys-physical
touch would be good." And the first

person Alicia sees is Ramona, and she
just walks right up to her, is like, "Hey.

Jason: Hey, girl.

Hey, Heifer.

I mean, Ramona.

What's up?

What's good, girl?

How are you?

Marissa: Yay.

It's just like, how do you like the job?

Lot of late nights, huh?

Jason: A lot of late
nights with my husband, eh?

Marissa: And then Ramona gives her a demo
tape for… And I was like, "Where did

this come from?

Did I

Jason: I hope this is gonna
pay off later at some point.

It's like, what, what?

For, what, what is this for?

Marissa: What?

Where did we come from with this?

Uh, so Peter and Alicia are sit, or
Peter comes in and kisses Alicia on

the cheek and kind of like hugs Ramona.

But, uh, they get…
They sit on the couch.

Alicia is like tilted away from
Peter, and Peter's just like

manspreading it pretty much everywhere.

He's like, "What?"

Jason: into the seat.

I'm like, "Do you know where you are
and what you're doing right now?"

Marissa: Ramona comes in and is like,
"Shh, shh, shh, shh." And Peter's like,

"Legal stuff." And she's like, "Yeah,
it's always good to keep things legal."

And then they ask for a level check,
and Peter's like, "Oh, Mr. President,

blah, blah, blah." And Alicia's just
like, "Five, four, three, two, one

Jason: That was so funny.

She's like, "This mother- this,
this guy is just, just cutting up.

Just doesn't wanna be everybody's buddy.

Mr. Jokester over here.

F this guy

Marissa: And then, uh, Elfman asks
how long have they been married, and

Alicia says, "20 years of wedded bliss."

Jason: I love how she like goes into
that, when she like goes into that mode

where he's like, "You wanna tell?" "Oh
no, sweetheart, you go ahead and tell it."

Marissa: Yeah.

Well, that's what-- when they
talk about how they meet.

Uh, they met at a, a
dating game in Georgetown.

I think we've heard this story before,
but I don't, I can't quite remember.

Um, they met at a dating
game in Georgetown.

He was using a Mickey Mouse voice.

Alicia did not choose Peter because
of that, but later as they were

leaving, it was raining and he gave
her her jacket, but then she kept the

jacket, and then they were waiting
for the bus, and he put her, his arms

around her, or arm around her, and she
says, "Happiest moment of my life."

And I was like, "What?"

Jason: go, "Wait, really?
Okay. Thought you…"

Marissa: I went, "What?" really.

I was like, "What?"

Jason: Peter's like, "I thought you
low key, low key hating me right

now." Um, but you know, you know what
this, like, this whole thing they

were describing would be perfect for?

The prequel series.

The,

Marissa: Yeah, I know.

I was gonna ask you, like, do
you feel like this is prequel

series worthy of a story?

Jason: yeah.

This is the, this is like one
of the scenes in the first

episode of the prequel series.

Come on now

Marissa: I don't know
if it's like the first.

I think it's like the end of season
one because we have to know who they

are before they meet each other and
also I wanna know what Will is doing

Jason: What do we do in season one?

Is, does, is Will s- the majority
of season one, and then in the

season finale she ha- goes to this,
like, uh, party and meets Peter?

That's what you're thinking?

Marissa: Yeah.

Or something, yeah.

Like it has to be like the start,
because then season two could be

like them dating in Georgetown, and
then they get to the proposal time.

Jason: Oh, we'll, we'll story- we'll,

Marissa: Not that again…

Jason: it.

We'll figure it out

Marissa: yeah, if you're hiring
for any TV shows, let me know.

Jason: Yeah.

Uh, sign up for our, our Kickstarter
to start, to start production on,

Marissa: We'll make like a
Lego version of the prequel

Jason: The Good Life,
whatever we're gonna call it

Marissa: Oh.

A- after this though, okay,
so it kind of fades out.

And after this, Alicia goes to visit Finn.

It's Finnlicia time

Jason: Oh, Fenelisha

Marissa: It's Finn leash time because

Jason: She's like, "Oh."

Marissa: "Hey,

Jason: and I mean, this is like, this
is like Alicia be like, "Oh, okay.

All right.

Hey, all bets are off.

The gloves are off.

Why have I been waiting?

He ain't been waiting.

Why, why do I have to keep waiting?"

Marissa: Exactly.

And he's like, "What, what are you doing?"
She's like, "I just wanted to see how you

were doing." And he's like, "Oh, here,
let me clear off some space on this couch

for sitting, but only clear off, like, two
spaces so that we have to sit next to each

Jason: Finn knows what time it is,
'cause Finn gets on the couch and he

like puts his arm like on the back of the

Marissa: Yes,

Jason: He's like,

Marissa: exactly.

I was like, talk about
happiest moments of my life.

That would-- I would take
Finn over Peter any day.

Jason: "So what's up?

What's, uh, what's up, girl?

What you up to?

What br- what brings
you here to my office?"

Marissa: lots of staring, not a lot of
words, lots of staring, lots of eyes.

There's like a reach for the hand,
uh, and then some people walk

Jason: You damn people.

Like, what are, what are you doing here?

It's after hours.

Only hardworking lawyers
are supposed to be here.

What are you doing?

Marissa: And who are these people?

I mean, I guess they
rent it out, whatever.

But, um,

Jason: like, but, but

Marissa: she uses this
time to kind of exit

Jason: runs.

'Cause like they, they sit
down and he's like, "So,

you wanna, you wanna talk?

What's up?" She's like,
"No, I don't wanna talk."

And then at that point
Fitz's like, "Oh, okay.

We, we don't gotta talk at all.

I got a bathroom in this office.

I know that's, I know that's your thing.

Marissa: received.

Jason: I am DTF." It's like,
and she goes like this, this.

He was like, "No, no, no, girl.

No, no, no." He touches her hand,
which we know, we know in this

universe that means it's on.

Hand touching, pinky touching.

Marissa: we had pinky touching.

Yeah,

Jason: Yeah, it's, it's on when we

Marissa: All we just needed some
Karl-Anthony Towns or… Yeah,

Jason: Yeah.

Carly, Carly Rae Jepsen.

Yeah.

Marissa: that's it.

Yeah

Jason: listen, we know when hands touch
hands, it's, it's on like Donkey Kong.

But then they get interrupted and
Alicia's like, "Yep, this is a bad idea.

Let me run." Like I am, I am the go-
like, uh, uh, Alicia always goes back,

"I am the wife of the governor right now.

I cannot be seen in like randos' offices
doing weird stuff in dimly lit rooms.

I gotta get the F outta here." And
it's like, oh no, we were denied

the fit Alicia we've been craving.

Marissa: Yeah.

Next time we see everyone really is at
this fire fight event-- firefighter event.

We've got Ramona, we've got Peter,
and we've got Alicia, and it's

very much like a… I don't know.

I could only think of "The West Wing,"
but Alicia and Peter get in the same

car, uh, on the way out, and Peter is
like, "Great job with the police captain.

He's totally in, um,
what's his face's pocket?

Castor's pocket." And I'm
like, did we all forget that

Castor dropped out of the race?

Like, what?

Jason: I think he's implying

Marissa: know he still has influence,
but like they n- haven't really,

again, talked about this moment at all.

Um, and Alicia just says, "You need
to stop sleeping with her." And he's

like, "What?" It's like, "You've been
seen." She says, "Be honest with me

for once." And he's like, "What are
you, what are you talking-- Were

you sleeping with her in Highland

Jason: Whoa.

And he doesn't answer

Marissa: his answer is,
"I'm not sleeping with her

Jason: Oh, Peter.

Peter

Marissa: then he says, "I
was pregnant with Grace. Were

you sleeping with her then?"

And he turns it around, "I will do
nothing to embarrass you." It was bad.

It's bad.

It's

Jason: It's real bad

Marissa: And he sh- she shows
her, him the pictures and says,

"These weren't taken by me.

This was taken by somebody else.

So here's the thing.

You, you, I don't care, like, what
you do, but use your political mind.

They're going to use this against
you, and I will not stand beside you.

Not again.

Jason: "Not in a million years,"
she says, "I will not do it.

Not in a million years, you…" And
the, and like Julia Marguiles, you, she

just freaking kills it. She freaking,
the, the emotion in her voice when she

says, "I won't stand beside you, Peter.

Not again.

Not in a million years." I was like, "Oh!"
She's like right on the verge of like

crying, but she's trying to stay strong.

I was like, "This is fantastic.

This is great.

Give that girl her Emmy." And I was
like, "Yeah." And then, and then

she, she, she puts, she puts a,
she puts some more on top of it.

Like, go ahead, go ahead

Marissa: She says, "You wanna be
reelected? You want me to be reelected?

Then zip up your pants, shut your
mouth, and stop banging the help."

Jason: I don't remember much
about season six and seven.

I do remember that line.

When she said it, I was like, "Oh,
yeah," that was like a famous line.

I was like, "Oh, yes, Alicia.

Get him, girl.

Get him." And Peter's just sitting
there with like a stupid ass look

on his face like, "Oh, how did I get
caught?" Like, and the way that he just

keeps like, he just kept denying and
denying and de- Like, bro, you are just

digging the hole even w- I have photo
evidence with your pants off, you idiot.

What are you talking about?

He's like, "Uh, you remember, remember
when Zach was doing crack, and it was

like a h- spectral highlight analysis?
Don't you think that's probably

happening here?" Like, no, man, come on.

Like how, I want, like it just makes
you… I don't, I don't know if we're

gonna get the answers to this later,
but like it just makes you think,

like how long has this been going on?

Like how long

Marissa: Yeah.

Well, I have to think it's been a while.

Like, I for sure think it was
happening in Highland Park.

I for-- I think it's been an
off and on… I, I think so.

Yeah, because also l- because of
something else in the, in the future.

Uh, so based off of this confident
conversation she has, she arrives for

her part of the interview, like the
solo part of the interview for her ad,

and she's wearing like a red dress,

Jason: yeah.

Yeah, she is.

She, she, listen, she's not
just, she's not just wearing

it, she is wearing it, okay?

Marissa: Yeah.

Yeah.

She talks about the co-
courthouse shooting.

She talks about how she went to work,
um, like while Peter was in jail, and

she did everything, that she had to work
harder than everybody else, and then I h-

she went home to her children and had to
hug her kids, and when she got the call

about the shooting, she felt destroyed.

It's a very good
performance of an interview.

Like, it's like a one-take, we got it.

Go.

Yeah, we got this.

Uh, then Finn stops by her office

Jason: So what, uh, what,
what was up with that?

Thought something was going on here.

Uh, what, what, what's up, girl?

Marissa: And he's, he's like, "I was,
I was like, I was in a weird mood."

And he's like, "Is the mood gone?"

Jason: well, Finn's like, "I am--
Listen, I am ready to go right now. I

know for a fact you got a bathroom in
this office 'cause, uh, I heard some

things about you and this bathroom,
so we can, we can do that real quick."

Marissa: And then this is like literally
a conversation she had with Will, I think

in this office, because she says, "I wish
things were simpler." And he says, "Things

could be s- simpler if you want it to be."

Jason: He's like, "Listen, I

Marissa: And I was
like, here we are again.

Here we are again.

And

Jason: don't care about nothing.

I am down.

Let's go.

Make it simple

Marissa: And sh- she then says, "I
always hated that these offices were

Jason: Uh, excuse me, in the last
office you were in, you didn't

even have any-- You had nothing.

What are you talking about
with your open concept ass?

It's like, listen, that
did not stop Will, okay?

Will had his little
shades and little blinds.

He's like, shlip, shlip.

Like, he can do whatever
he want in his office.

We had, "I'm good."

And Finn is like, "Okay, so I guess
this conversation's over." Right?

We're, we've stopped talking about us
possibly canoodling, so I'm outta here.

Marissa: Okay.

Then we get, um, Frank put out his
10-minute video, his, like, introductory

video, and he is talking about the
death of his father and how he was 16

years old when his dad had a car crash.

And we see Frank's mom come on the
screen, and what's she wearing, Jason?

Jason: Alicia's dress.

Pretty much the same exact
dress, which is just like, what?

Like, how?

I, I just, the logistics of
this are mind-boggling to me

Marissa: Yeah, and it's hard to
know if it's like, like maybe

that dress was just on sale.

You know what I mean?

Like, it's hard to know if this
was like a legitimate thing that

Jason: 'Cause it's the same day that
Alicia taped this, so it's not as if,

like, Brady's thing was probably already
taped before Alicia did her part.

So it's like, it's not as if they s-
like, had some inside information.

Alicia gonna be wearing this dress and was
like, "Ha ha, we'll trump her," and like,

you know, have the, wear the dress first.

I was like, is this just
like a huge coincidence?

Like that, that, that would be
a j- like ginormous coincidence.

Marissa: She's like, "Can't you
do things digitally?" And they

can't at this point in time.

Jason: Bro, yeah.

I mean, listen, if this was 2026,
at least you wouldn't have even

had to take this interview at all.

We could just AI that book
and just call it a day

Marissa: Yeah.

Yeah, not so good.

They, the solutions there are not good.

So they're like, "Okay, we're gonna have
to re- re-tape it." When she does it, she

cannot, she cannot recapture the magic.

She cannot do it.

And I was like, "I've been there, Alicia.
I've been there. I've recorded a podcast

and then had to rep- reco- re-record the
podcast because the thing got, the, um,

recording was damaged or got lost." there.

It sucks

Jason: Bro, listen.

Run Juliana her Emmy.

'Cause this episode altogether for her
was just spectacular with the limo scene,

with, with now this where she's, like,
showing off her, like, comedic chops.

'Cause she's like, 'cause, you know, she
did this whole thing of like, "I had to,

you know, I, I had to do all this work
and I had to go be with my kids," and

the- now this time she has to redo it.

She's like, "I had, I had to be with
my kids." She's like, "You had to?"

She's like… And she goes, "No, no, no.

Let me do it again." She's like,
"Yeah, I had to be with my kids

because CPS said I had to."

Marissa: Come on

Jason: It's like, it just,
she starts talking in, like,

this weird Southern accent.

"My poor little lovely kids at
home." I was like, oh my God.

She is cracking me up.

I was like, I did not even
know Juliana had this in her

Marissa: Yeah.

She, she, she brings out a different side
of her for sure, but it's still not enough

to remake the ad. Um, and then we get
a scene of Ramona and Peter in the car,

and Ramona… This is why I think this
has been going on longer, because Ramona

is crying and she's like, "I hate being
the cause of this." Like, which time?

Since when?

Since where?

I mean, obviously Peter did his things
with the prostitutes or whatever, but, um,

sex workers, sorry, with the sex workers.

And then Peter's like, "I'm sorry."
Well, we- it isn't, like, revealed yet.

Peter's like, "I'm sorry." She's
like, "I hate being the cause of this.

I should resign." And then Peter says,
"Ramona, wait," and then gives her a kiss.

And she says, "We're bad people." And
Peter says, "I know." This just, the way

this interaction was just makes me think
that this is, this has been a little bit

longer, especially the part where she
said, "We're bad people," and he said, "I

Jason: Now that made me think this was
more recent, because I feel like if

Ramona was-- If this was a long thing
that was happening, I feel like Ramona

would probably not be this, like,
emotional about it, 'cause she's just

like, "I mean, we've been doing this for
years." Like, oh, she finally found out.

This, this to me was just kind of
like a, "Oh my God, what have I done?"

Because of course, she, she starts
working with Peter, and Peter does his,

like, his m- his magic, his seduction.

'Cause I mean, listen, listen, how are
these, like, hot, beautiful people just

falling under Peter's spell all the time?

He's, he's, he's Peter.

I mean, come on.

Uh, he's so charming though, I guess.

And like, I, I just feel like
it's a probably more recent

thing if I was to guess.

Marissa: I don't know.

I wouldn't be surprised if they, like,
hooked up before and that… Like,

I'm not saying it was a c- ongoing
thing, but I feel you, that they've

been circling each other for a while

Jason: 'cause my thing was
like, damn, that was fast.

She just came to work with you.

Or if, because if it-- But if it
was something that was before, it

was like, "Hey, I got an idea for
who should come work for me, and

this lady I'm already stripping."

Marissa: Yes, exactly.

Well, and that's how I think Lauren
got into the office to begin with.

Jason: Possibly.

I, I hope we get, like,
confirmation later down the line.

That's something I'm curious about

Marissa: We shall see.

We shall see.

Uh, last thing on this one is we get
a JibJab ad, which I gotta tell you,

good people, the Good Wife and the
Good Fight people, they love a JibJab.

They love, like, this type
style of, of ad or cartoon.

Um, but it's basically like little puppet
things of Colin Sweeney in Alicia's bed,

and then Lemond Bishop's in Alicia's
bed, and then the tagline is, "Who

will, will be in Alicia's be- bed?"

Or, "Who will be in Alicia's bed next?"

Jason: Honestly, I was like, "This is
the best you got?" Like, there's so much

you could've done, and you were saying
that she slept with Bishop and Sweeney.

I was like, "That's crazy."

Marissa: No, I think they're
saying that like she's in bed with

Jason: Oh,

Marissa: them, but like in bed with them.

And like these are the people
that she hangs out with.

Like who else is she

Jason: I took it too literally.

I took it too literally.

That's what I did.

My bad

Marissa: Like don't give them that
much credit for being like literal.

Uh, Alicia doesn't think that Frank
is behind it, but Josh, the director

says, "Uh, how many, how many times
have you won a campaign basically?

Like I have done this a gazillion times.

Get with the program." Um, the
campaign video that she worked on,

she reshot was pretty bad, so she's
just like, "Run the first one.

It's fine." Like whatever. But
there, there's the time where Josh

says to Elfman, "There's a time
when the candidate is the candidate

and the manager is the manager.

What are you gonna do about this?

What are you gonna do about this?"
Alicia leaves to call pr- uh, Frank, and

she's just like, "This is… This sucks.

Make a change." And he's like,
"Oh, I'll see what I can do.

I'll

Jason: Угу

Marissa: see what I can do.

Give me a day." And she's like, "A
day is a year in politics." Meanwhile,

while she's making that phone call,
Elfman is calling the press and

s- basically baiting this ad, this
dinosaur ad that he's got in the hopper.

He's like, "Well, here's the
thing, here's our response.

Like Alicia is Alicia, but also Frank
is Frank, and we got something on

him, but we're not gonna let it go.

And because Alicia wants to
rise above the negativity

Jason: And she's like, "Oh my God, bro.

Like, I can't give you the video,
but if you could see the video,

oh my gosh, you would love it.

It's crazy, but I can't show you though.

But you would love it.

I'm telling you, it's just scathing.

You would love it, but
I can't show you though.

But, you know, but if you did see
it, you'd be like, 'Oh my God,'

but you can't see it though.

I mean, unless you really want
to." Like, you know what I mean?

Marissa: But, um, he, it gets out.

Like, I don't know how or who, but it gets

out

Jason: unless he's like, he's
like, "You definitely can't see

it." And then later it's like,
"Via anonymous email, here it is."

Marissa: Like, here you go, here you go.

He says he didn't leak it.

Alicia's like, "Yeah, right, whatever."
She ends up calling Frank, and Frank

is like, "Well, what are we gonna do?

They're gonna drag us into the
pit." And Alicia's like, "Well, we

gotta resist." And I'm like, how
are you gonna resist capitalism?

Like, for real.

Like, how is that gonna

happen?

Jason: stop being this, like, patron saint
and just, just acknowledge and admit that

you're gonna have to get down into the
mud to, to wrestle with these people.

It's just gonna happen.

Everyone keeps telling you
it's, it's gonna happen, Alicia.

It's gonna happen.

It's gonna happen.

It's just gonna happen, Alicia, okay?

You're, you're a terrible
person like the rest of us.

Deal with it.

Marissa: Get with it.

So that was, uh, this episode
particularly, and we got Carrie

basically almost going to jail and,
like, getting ready for the trial.

Almost basically getting dead, basically.

That's the one.

And then Alicia's still trying to
figure out who she is as a candidate,

but I think she's figured out who she
is as a wife at this moment in time.

Jason: Yeah.

Marissa: figured out that side of the

Jason: I'm kinda ready for both of these
storylines to wrap up, to be honest.

Um, I really miss our kind of case
of the week format where we had,

like, interesting things happening
every episode, 'cause it just

seems like these storylines are
being a little drug out, uh, TBH.

I feel like it would've been better
if, like, for s- some way we could've,

like, don't we usually do, right?

Have cases of the week that take up
a good part of our s- of our episode

and just have these other little…
Just chop up these big storylines

into smaller bite-sized bits as we
go through the, through the season.

But to have these be the main
thrust of the whole season, just

like, it's getting a little, little
stale for me just a little bit.

Marissa: It's a bit much.

It's a

Jason: like, how much more,
how much, yeah, how much more

crap can we give to Carrie?

It just seems like every episode is
like, shove more crap on Carrie's grave,

shove more crap on Carrie's grave.

And it's also like, also every
episode's like, how much more can we

drag Alicia down into actual politics
where she's just kind of naive

about politics and all this stuff.

So I'm like, "Okay, can we wrap
these things up please?" But, you

know, I, you know, I do love the fact
that every time, it never gets old.

Every time Alicia and Peter have a
confrontation, which is like more

and more nowaday is, it never fails.

It never, like, I'm always just like,

Marissa: I know.

Jason: Like, I'm always
like on the edge of my seat.

Marissa: like both, I'm like, "Oh,

Jason: Yeah.

I'm like, "Oh,

Marissa: do your

Jason: yes.

Love it.

Love those moments." And like I
said, Julie- Julianna really did her

thing this episode with, with all
the dramatics she had to do, with

the comedic timing she had to have.

Uh, I thought it was a really,
really good episode for, uh,

Julianna Margulies in particular.

Um-

Marissa: I will say, I think her
funniest line was, "I don't need milk.

Jason: Yeah.

The way she delivered it.

Yeah, I know.

Marissa, stop trying to force milk on me.

Marissa: I don't want the milk.

Jason: Don't want the milk.

Um, yeah, so that was our episode.

Uh, Marissa, you wanna tell the
folks where they can find you

and what you're up to nowadays?

Marissa: You can always find
me at itsmemerissag.com where I

have links to all of the things.

Um, uh, if we have not mentioned,
I don't think we have this

episode, but Elsbeth is gearing up.

Um, also the Gilded Age is gonna be
starting in November, so it's a good

time to get connected with all of our
feeds to make sure that you are in

the know and can join in on the fun.

Because as w- much as we love talking
about television from 2014, uh, we

also love talking about television
happening in 2026 so we are looking

forward to these shows kinda kicking up.

Um, so make sure you're connected there.

You can find links at itsmemerissag.com.

Jason, what's going on with you?

Jason: Just talking about mess.

Talking about mess, baby.

All the people that you wanna see doing
crazy and terrible things every day.

Uh, me and Asia Welch talk
about the show "Married at First

Sight," uh, on our podcast, "The
Perfect Match" over on Patreon.

We are doing a rewatch of Season
12, one of the most chaotic and

ridiculous seasons of the show.

So if that's something that floats
your boat, come on over and, uh,

have fun with us over there on "The
Perfect Match" Patreon, uh, podcast.

Uh, yeah, that's it for me.

That's it for Marissa G.
Till next time, stay good.
