[00:00:00] Pia: We're realizing that the only thing that we really have control of is yourself. But how do you actually do that and then really positively impact your leadership? I'm Pia.
[00:00:12] Dan: I'm Dan, and this is Squadify Connects.
[00:00:15] So we saw in the last Connect that the only thing you can really control and your whole area of concern is yourself. You may even be thinking, Hmm, I'm not sure if I'm in total control of that. And in a way, you are right.
[00:00:30] Pia: Yeah, we often run on our factory or default settings with many of our actions set to automatic. So, how do we do this better?
[00:00:38] Dan: Well, let's do a mental exercise. You have three cards in front of you, each mark with a single word. One is do, another is be, and the final one is have. Do represents the actions that you take to achieve something. Be represents your mindset or chosen identity, and have represents what you achieve and the reward that follows.
[00:00:58] Pia: So, for example, we might say to have success, I need to do these things and then I will be a better leader with more time for my people. Or once I have this success, I will have time to do those things that will help me to be happier.
[00:01:18] Dan: So there's a lot of do be do be do there. But your
[00:01:21] Pia: Could make a song.
[00:01:22] Dan: Exactly. Your experiment is to ask yourself honestly, what is your normal approach to things? Maybe write out these cards. Think where do you honestly start and what do you do next?
[00:01:35] Pia: And then think about what may be the optimal order. Why is that the best way It may be what you do now. Our experience tells us that maybe unlikely, but if so, what drives you to use that approach? There's nothing to stop you searching for these words on the internet, so see what's out there.
