[00:00:22] Welcome to Minis with Megan on So Much to Say: A Legal Podcast For People.
[00:00:31] This is our 50th episode, and I was really struggling with what I was gonna say. I obviously want to thank our listeners, but I wanted it to be, like, meaningful and impactful, and it was landing on a mini schedule, and so I knew it was going to be just me by myself. And I was struggling with what to say, which is unlike me, as I usually have something to say about pretty much everything.
[00:01:01] And as I was taking time to consider it and trying to come up with ways that were f- would feel impactful and insightful and how will I thank the people that have been listening, I actually wound up dreaming about it. And if you've been following along, you know that I usually say something like, "And it was kind of woo," so I've been leaning into the woo, and if someone in the past had mentioned that they, their idea came to them in a dream, I'm not sure I would have believed them.
[00:01:30] Except now I would, because I have done some dream work with Ben Field, and harnessing your dreams can be really fun and also kind of interesting. And so the dream was super practical where literally my brain told me that I should just Google the number 50 and see what that means. And when I woke up in the morning, I was laughing about how absolutely practical that was and why haven't I thought about it.
[00:01:59] So after googling the number 50, I wanted to know what that meant. Maybe there was some hidden meaning behind the number 50, and this is what our friends Chatty G, ChatGPT, and Google have to say about the number 50. And I just picked one kind of arbitrarily, and feel free to dispute it if you'd like. But for the purposes of this show, we are going to lean into the number 50 having spiritual and cultural significance, viewed as a symbol of celebration, joy, freedom, restoration, and transition.
[00:02:33] 50 is also a sign of letting go of past failures, healing from hurt, embracing optimistic changes in life and relationships, and I felt like that was pretty fucking fitting for our show. If we're keeping on the theme of joy and freedom, what would that word mean to you if you are a lawyer in a big firm?
[00:02:57] What would freedom mean if you're a solo law firm owner? What would joy and purpose to your legal practice look like? To your legal marketing work look like? I invite people to think about what their 50 moment would look like for them. So for us, it's this hitting 50 as a milestone, which is feeling like a moment of freedom, a moment of joy, the freedom that I have the microphone, and I can say whatever I want.
[00:03:25] The freedom that Jen and I invite guests that are interesting to us, the freedom that they can say yes. That's the freedom and the autonomy that we have because we took a huge risk, launched our own business, and now have survived for three and a half years. That adds joy and purpose to our business.
[00:03:42] That adds joy and purpose to our life. And I invite you to think about what that would look like for you. What would joy and purpose look like for you in your practice? And it feels so silly, right, to say that when essentially my entire-- our entire business model is helping lawyers make more money, if you really wanted to make it sound crass.
[00:04:07] But we also want our clients to think about the joy in their practice, finding joy again, if they've lost it, finding purpose, helping their clients. They will... People really want to help each other. You can do that through your job. And so I invite you to think about what that milestone would look like for you.
[00:04:23] What would your fifty be? Putting this show together has been mine and Jen's great joy. We just absolutely love getting to talk to so many interesting people who have said, like, really profound things. It's been a running joke that it's not a good episode unless we can make Jen cry, and it's tears of love and affirmation and an absolute impact.
[00:04:51] And that is what I want for our listeners for the next fifty episodes. Most podcast creators quit after ten episodes. Apparently, it's known as pod fade. If a show has published more than twenty-one episodes, then according to a very reputable source, Reddit, you have outlasted ninety-nine percent of all podcasts that have started globally.
