What is The Vivaling English Podcast?

This podcast is designed to give English students extra practice by discussing events, history, culture and language.

Hello and welcome bacl to the English Kids’ Podcast.
Today’s episode is all about feelings, and I’m delighted about this theme, and I think you will be, too, because it’s about music and how it makes us feel.
Music can change our emotions. Have you ever felt blue, that means sad, and then you listened to your favorite pop song, and your mood lifted just a bit?
The type of music we choose on any particular day is often because of how we feel.
Let’s listen to four types of music. Pay attention to the words used to describe the music and the feeling.

This music is slow and soft.
When I listen to this music, I feel relaxed.
My body feels light, and my mind feels quiet.
Sometimes I listen to calm music when I want to rest or sleep.
Calm music can help us feel more peaceful.

This music is loud and strong.
The guitar and drums make big sounds.
When I listen to rock music, I feel excited.
I want to move my body and maybe dance.
Rock music gives me a lot of energy, so I feel energetic.

This music is dramatic and lovely.
It has many instruments like violins and pianos.
When I listen to classical music, I feel focused.
I can concentrate. It helps me think and work more easily.
I also often feel motivated. It is easier for me to want to do my work.

This music is lively and cheerful.
It has a quick beat, and the lyrics make me want to sing.
When I listen to dance music, I feel social.
I want to hang out with my friends.
It makes me feel awake and ready to do something.

Music gives us many different feelings.
Sometimes music helps us relax, and some music gives us energy.
Next time you listen to a song, ask yourself, “How does this music make me feel?”
Your homework: Write the name and style of your favorite song. Then write two words to describe the music and two words to describe your feeling when you listen to it. Tell it to your VivaLing coach or family member.
