Problem Corner

Justin and guest co-host Devon field a flurry of calls: garage/for-sale listings, a missing Siamese cat, and lively takes on city spending, ballot measures, and free speech. And good morning, Juno, KINY ninety four point nine FM and Always eight hundred. It is Wednesday, Problem Corner. I'm Jess Miller hanging out with y'all from the Goldblood Tram Studio, and I have a special cohost today. I have Devin Stickler here in the studio.

Speaker 3:

Good morning, good morning.

Speaker 2:

Good morning, Devin. Thank you for joining Probyn Corner

Speaker 3:

on I'm this so excited to

Speaker 2:

be here. I know you are. So obviously longtime Juno White, born and raised here pretty much. Yeah, so you've grown up with the program, listening to Problem Corner.

Speaker 3:

Oh yes.

Speaker 2:

All the different hosts. I actually know it was pretty much Wade, Bryce, most of our youth growing up a little bit.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I do remember Dennis Egan though, because that was when Problem Corner was still on Saturday mornings. And I remember waking up to that sometimes. Or I remember that being like a very distinct voice in the house.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

So I'm excited. I'm excited to be here following some great hosts footsteps.

Speaker 2:

But Oh, yeah. Well, we already got a call in, so let's get it started.

Speaker 3:

Love it.

Speaker 2:

Hi. Welcome welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.

Speaker 5:

Okay. Hi. We're having a garage sale on Saturday, September 27 from ten to four at 1022 Coogan Drive. Lots of new and gently used items, sheets, towels, and wooden tentables and new Sherpa pet carriers and lots more. Friend of ours is trying to get to the Pioneer's Home.

Speaker 5:

So a lot of her stuff is very, very good. We'd love to see you at our yard sale on Saturday.

Speaker 2:

Awesome. Can you give me the address one more time?

Speaker 5:

Yes. It's 1022 Coogan Drive.

Speaker 6:

And you'll just come

Speaker 5:

off the drive and you'll see balloons and you'll see where we're at.

Speaker 2:

Oh, perfect.

Speaker 3:

What time are you guys starting that?

Speaker 5:

At 10:00.

Speaker 3:

10:00. Perfect. Glad I asked. It's a little bit later than some of the other ones, so I don't wanna send too many.

Speaker 5:

O'clock. Okay. Let's put it at I'm sorry. Let's put it at 08:00.

Speaker 7:

We'll be

Speaker 5:

there at 08:00.

Speaker 3:

08:00. Got you. God. No. That's okay.

Speaker 3:

08:00. There we are.

Speaker 2:

Alright. We'll shout that over there.

Speaker 5:

Thank you so much.

Speaker 8:

No problem. Appreciate it.

Speaker 2:

Have a good one.

Speaker 5:

Okay. Yeah. Thank you. Bye bye.

Speaker 2:

All right. Bye bye.

Speaker 3:

I love a good garage sale.

Speaker 2:

I know. Kind of had our peak garage sale season during the nice, beautiful weather we had a few weeks ago, but it's still kind of garage sale season. So swing on over to 1022 Coogan Drive this weekend from 8AM till when they want to end things. When

Speaker 3:

they pack it up. Yeah. That was fun. I love, I love garage sale season.

Speaker 2:

All right. And we do got another call. Hi, Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.

Speaker 9:

Yeah. Good morning, Problem Corner.

Speaker 2:

Good morning.

Speaker 9:

Well, apparently, no work available, so I'm gonna try and tell a DVD player, like, new It's

Speaker 10:

a story

Speaker 9:

mode that works. It's got all the divas with it. Awesome.

Speaker 10:

And I

Speaker 9:

found a weird corner this morning when I was going through my laundry money. It's old Washington quarter twenty twenty three, but it has in cod we trust, which is COD instead of God.

Speaker 10:

Oh, wow.

Speaker 9:

That's weird.

Speaker 2:

That is strange. That's kinda cool. That's a cool find.

Speaker 9:

And that Superman comic, I didn't I opened it up finally. There's two covers. One is the gold cover, but it has the original cover. I didn't know that.

Speaker 2:

Oh, that's cool.

Speaker 9:

So kind of weird. I don't look at all the stuff I get. I don't have that for sale. So if somebody wants that DVD player, they can call (907) 419-5262. And thank you much for the program.

Speaker 2:

Of course. No problem. Thanks for calling in with those items. So that gentleman's still got his load I believe he's called before that portable DVD player with all the accessories. He's also got that Superman comic, the Gold Edition, I believe, was like a hundredth anniversary from he's called in before with So if you're interested in any of those items, give him a call at (907) 419-5262.

Speaker 3:

You know, and if that gentleman's still at least listening to us, that might be something that you take to Coop's Collectibles at the Men In

Speaker 2:

Home Mall. I always forget about Coop's Collectibles, but yeah, it's a great collector store, cards, comics, all the things over there. So maybe he could get appraised for you and kind of give you an idea of what it may be worth.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. And I'm not sure. I don't know too much about Coops, but I would assume being a collectible store, he probably purchases

Speaker 2:

Oh, he does. Cool. Yeah. I know he does cards a lot of the time. So if you have some cards, especially some high ranking cards, like Pokemon cards or whatever it may be, he usually will kind of get it appraised for you.

Speaker 2:

Obviously, it might not be as much as you could get like selling online, but it still gives you a good kind of gauge in the ballpark what you could get for it.

Speaker 3:

Yeah,

Speaker 2:

yeah. So before the program, we're talking about stuff going on this week, and we have a special event going on this Saturday. Actually, before we jump into that special event, we do have calls. So let's get them on and we'll talk about that special event happening.

Speaker 3:

Perfect.

Speaker 2:

Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.

Speaker 11:

Hey, I wanna talk about responsible fiscal policy and the lack thereof in our local city government. As you guys know, is it $8,000,000 that the city wants to spend on the new city hall? Am I right about that? I was not not not entirely sure.

Speaker 2:

I think it was voted in that ballpark. I thought it was close to nine possibly.

Speaker 11:

Close to nine?

Speaker 11:

I mean, that's like close to a 1% sales tax increase, isn't it? Somewhere around there. Anyway, we voted it down twice. I don't know why they're doggedly doing this, and then they wanna spend $9,000,000 redeveloping Telephone Hill. It's like, why don't they redevelop the gondola at Eagle Crest?

Speaker 2:

You know what

Speaker 11:

I'm saying?

Speaker 2:

That's been a huge conversation for sure. Yeah.

Speaker 11:

The Affordable Juno Coalition put item ballot items number one and two on the ballot, and I I think everyone should vote for those. Because if our government just cannot deal with its own finances, they need to be defunded. You know? I mean, if they're just gonna keep wasting our money, why are we paying taxes?

Speaker 3:

You know, that's a great question. I I personally am not super savvy on this whole topic, but no. I agree. I mean, as a someone who lives in the city, like I said, born and raised, it seems like everything is just going up and there's not a whole lot of I don't want to say accountability, but but kind of, you know, that I'm not I'm not totally understanding and I'm and like I said, I'm not real savvy on the topic itself but I also can't say that I like understand when someone tells me about it either when I ask questions. I don't know if I need things dumbed down for me a little bit or what but it's hard by as a young adult not being able to understand these things because it is gonna be us that are affected even longer.

Speaker 11:

Right. It seems like they care more about outside interests than they do their own people.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. Yeah. I mean, like I said, I don't have a whole lot to contribute to this topic honestly. I don't want to offend anyone out there. I don't want to get into any arguments with anybody, but it is a topic that's near and dear to my heart.

Speaker 3:

But yeah, I'm, you know, I'm hoping that we get some more callers because I think it's a really interesting topic and I hope people can give us a little bit more perspective. Maybe some of these longtime Junoites would jump on and give us some perspective of

Speaker 11:

the good old days. Yeah. Just wanted to end up saying, you know, I talked to the Affordable Juno Coalition about ballot items one and two, which they're encouraging people to vote yes on and no on number three. Right. And they're doing it not because they think that they're paying too much in taxes, but just because they they hate the way that the city is wasting money.

Speaker 11:

And that's coming from higher ups in the Affordable Juno Coalition. Right. Know, then so they're like, well, we could pay this, but I'd rather save my money.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 11:

Yeah, anyway, thanks so much and I won't keep you any longer.

Speaker 3:

No, thanks so much for calling, I appreciate it.

Speaker 11:

You bet.

Speaker 2:

All right, bye bye. Yeah, it's definitely been a big conversation that we've had on the program as far as where money goes in the city, what are we doing with that money and how is it being used responsibly? And I know there's so many different projects going on in the community that's like, what's going on with these projects? What's happening? What's the dates on it?

Speaker 3:

So many more questions than answers too. That's my issue is I feel like every time I ask questions about it, it ends up with more I end up with more questions. You know, I don't I can't say I fully understand it. I wish I did.

Speaker 2:

I know. And I've been hosting the program for months and months and months, and this has been the topic. And I got a minimal grasp on things going on, but, you know, I'm not an expert.

Speaker 3:

It's such a large topic. It really is.

Speaker 2:

And we do have another call. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.

Speaker 6:

Hi. I have a large storage bin of boys' clothing, size eight for forty dollars. It has jeans in there, tops, shirt tops, T shirts, shorts, like,

Speaker 5:

sports

Speaker 6:

and miscellaneous pajamas and also a smaller bin of five to six boys. The larger bin is 40, and the five to six is 25. Five to six boys' clothes. No pants.

Speaker 12:

Several different

Speaker 6:

outerwear and can call (907) 723-3971. And I also have train sets, but I believe it's vinyl. My grandson knows more about it. And then two wooden sets and the tunnels to go through and all that stuff and also countertop. It is from Home Depot.

Speaker 6:

The color is white and gray like color. And also, I forget what else, but (907) 723-3971. Thank you so much.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, no problem.

Speaker 3:

Thank you.

Speaker 2:

I'll try to get that stuff off your hands.

Speaker 6:

Thank you.

Speaker 2:

All right, you a great day. You as well.

Speaker 3:

All kinds of goodies.

Speaker 2:

I know. She had quite a set of stuff. So large storage bin of boys' clothes, size eight, a lot of different items, pants, shorts, T shirts, all season clothes, asking $40 for that bin. And then they have a small bin of clothes, five to six size, asking $25 for that, as well as some train sets. Man, you don't find train sets anymore.

Speaker 2:

No, none

Speaker 3:

of them. You really don't. Which is Especially not the wooden ones.

Speaker 2:

Know guys are so cool. Those are really cool. So train sets, vinyl and wooden with accessories. And she also had a countertop, it's kind of white grayish color. So if you're interested in any of those items, give her a call at (907) 723-3971.

Speaker 2:

All right, so before we got some calls, we were talking about a special event going on here at KINY this Saturday. Do you wanna kinda give the community some updates on that?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, we have a really exciting promotion going on here at the radio center that I'm so excited about. Again, very near and dear topic to my heart that most of you guys have probably heard of Cure for Kade. Here at KINY, excuse me, KINY, we're hosting a Cure for Kade Radioathon this coming Saturday, the twenty seventh from 10AM to 5PM. You're gonna wanna tune in. Everyone's gonna wanna tune in.

Speaker 3:

There's so many opportunities to win really, really awesome prizes. We have thousands and thousands of dollars worth of prizes. Awesome. You can win money, you can win experiences, you can win items, merchandise, all kinds of stuff. But I mean, even your pets can win.

Speaker 3:

Like we have that many prizes. Literally, your pets can win a prize. But it's gonna be so cool. Tune in because every hour is gonna be something a little bit different. Different businesses have hopped on board to sponsor certain hours of this, radioathon.

Speaker 3:

We're gonna be encouraging folks to call in throughout the entire show, make their donations. We're gonna have a Venmo set up if that's easier for folks. So really, I mean, the place to be is home. You know what? I shouldn't even say the place to be is home this Saturday.

Speaker 3:

The place to be is anywhere that you can listen to the radio. You can stream us on the Juno Media Center app. It's just a little bit more delayed on the app, but you're still going to be more than it's going to be more than easy

Speaker 2:

It's very minimally delayed

Speaker 3:

on the stream

Speaker 2:

from live radio.

Speaker 3:

So you're going be able to tune into all of it. We do have some surprises throughout the show that you're gonna wanna be a part of. Maybe play some games throughout the day. It's gonna be really fun. It's gonna be fast paced.

Speaker 3:

It's gonna be really fun to listen to. We have some awesome businesses that are gonna be in here co hosting the show with Angel. And then I'm going to be running like a chicken with my head cut off.

Speaker 2:

Well, it's going to be a busy, busy Saturday for sure. Like we have the Cure for Cade, we have the last home game for the Junet Douglas Crimson Bears going on in evening. What else is going on this Saturday? I think those are the two main things. But yeah, if you guys popped around the community last Saturday, other local businesses were doing their own little fundraisers for

Speaker 3:

a which

Speaker 2:

was a huge benefit for

Speaker 3:

I did see online it was like a $50,000 weekend for them. Wow, that's insane. Going into that pot.

Speaker 2:

So let's keep raising that number Absolutely. Again, that's happening this Saturday on KINY, just tune in from ten to five. And if there's any businesses or folks out there that are wanting to donate, feel free to give us a call on our main line, (907) 586-3630. Or you could just pop in to the radio station, we'll chat with you and

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. One, donations of prizes too. Prizes are gonna are gonna be what really drives some of these donations because it's not gonna be like, oh, donate and we'll put you in a a bowl to win something. It's gonna be like, hey, call in and the next caller is gonna go home with x y and z, that kind of thing. So it's gonna be really fun and you're gonna wanna tune in.

Speaker 3:

You're not gonna win if you do not listen. If you do not donate, it's gonna be wonderful. I hope everyone's everyone's on board with it.

Speaker 12:

Well, you heard it here

Speaker 2:

on Problem Corner. We'll keep on pushing it throughout the week.

Speaker 3:

Go Kaden.

Speaker 2:

And we do have a call. Let's get them on. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.

Speaker 7:

Hey, problem corner. I was just wondering, you know, the the Seahawks channel. For some reason, it seems like there's another channel on there too, you know, along with the game, But there's a lot of music and on on, you know, that kind of stuff. Music and all kinds of stuff on on there too.

Speaker 3:

Alrighty. I did hear a call come in this morning to Charlie in our billing office. So I know that she's been on it, and we are working on that. I I assume you're talking about the Hawk Station. Is that correct?

Speaker 3:

Sports?

Speaker 7:

That's right. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

You got it. We are so on it for you, my friend.

Speaker 7:

Okay. Thank you very much. Thanks for your program. It's good listening to you guys.

Speaker 3:

Thanks for calling.

Speaker 4:

Have a

Speaker 3:

good rest of your day.

Speaker 10:

Okay. Bye bye.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. I did hear an email on that as well. So as always, I will get in contact with our engineer and we'll figure that out for you. So, yeah, I believe the next game is tomorrow actually. So I'll make sure that's all queued up and good to go for tomorrow's game over on 107.9, the Hawk.

Speaker 2:

Fear not, sports fans. We're on it. Yeah. And, yeah, we'll be broadcasting that last home game of the Crimson Bears as well. I'm looking forward to basketball season.

Speaker 2:

That's always a good time. Capital City Classic right after Christmas and, yeah, it's go time.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. You know, and I saw I'm I'm really hoping I know Justin, me and you were in high school at the same time. Yeah. Shout out shout out class of 14. But, like

Speaker 2:

A couple years ago.

Speaker 3:

I know you're no. Just let me have my moment

Speaker 2:

here, Justin. '24 class

Speaker 13:

of 2014.

Speaker 3:

But, you know, those basketball games were and still are core memories for me. So much fun. And, you know, I go to them and I don't I mean, again, I don't know if anybody else out there can speak on this topic, but seems like every game I either go to or I see on Facebook or whatever pictures, the the student section is not what it used to be. It really isn't and I would love to know why that is, why kids are not going to these sporting especially basketball. You're inside.

Speaker 2:

I know. You're I you're

Speaker 3:

And they were so exciting. I mean, we had especially the games against Ketchikan.

Speaker 2:

Oh, yeah. Those were

Speaker 3:

those were unbeatable. You did not miss one of those games. And we'd have the blackout games where everyone was in black. We'd have the red out games. Everyone was in red.

Speaker 3:

You'd come paint it up. Now I know there was, you know, some issues that happened with the paint and things like that where kids weren't able to do that. But I mean, those were the days.

Speaker 2:

Those are the days. I played basketball freshman, sophomore year and after that I joined, I popped up on the pep band loft, playing slick smacking the drums around. And yeah, that was a good time being up there in the loft with the student section and just bringing the hype.

Speaker 3:

And it was, the hype was unreal. I mean, those games were absolutely electric.

Speaker 2:

But even like the last couple of years of my high school career, because obviously you're out of JD by the time I was a junior senior. So like even my junior senior year, I started noticing a slight decline during those games too. So like, I feel like your senior year might've been the last kind of peak year as far as attendance and hypeness goes. And so yeah, Juno Douglas students, let's bring it back. Absolutely.

Speaker 4:

If me

Speaker 2:

and Devon, you show up at the game to bring the hype, we might just have to do that.

Speaker 3:

And now we're at the, know, we're at the point in our life where we're like the embarrassing parents.

Speaker 10:

Yeah, you

Speaker 3:

don't want that.

Speaker 14:

You don't

Speaker 3:

want us to show up and have to show you how to hype up your own basketball team.

Speaker 10:

Right.

Speaker 3:

No. But it should be a great year.

Speaker 11:

Great year.

Speaker 3:

There's some awesome kids out there. And the football game last weekend, wow. Talk about hype. Talk about electricity. I mean, those kids played their heart out.

Speaker 2:

They did.

Speaker 3:

Played their heart out. We had some awesome announcers covering that game, really brought the game to life. You know, it's it's hard being in radio and not being able to, have it up on a screen, show somebody exactly what's going on. Right. Man, they brought that game

Speaker 2:

to I know Dano and Will are definitely great announcers. And Will's got such an insight because he is a high school student himself. So he's able to roam the halls and like talk to these athletes and really kind of, it's almost like a reporter for the sport. So you could have conversations with these athletes and then go announce the games. Like I had a conversation with this athlete and I was asking him about how he felt about this game.

Speaker 2:

And that's great to have that element with our local sports to actually have an in-depth because before just our announcers, it would just be play by play. And like, obviously, you know about the athlete just from watching them for years. But yeah, having that actual element of that personality and be able to like, yeah, he's saying he was hyped for the game. He was ecstatic and he was going to kick some butt. So it's great to have that kind of added element with Dano on the So

Speaker 3:

yeah. Yeah, those kids came ready to play and they showed up and showed out. Incredible.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. Incredible. So we have one more minute before commercial break. So real quick, I wanna go through the calls that we had today so far. So our first call is that garage sale going on this Saturday over on 1022 Coogan Drive.

Speaker 2:

That's kicking off at 8AM. So swing on over there this Saturday for that garage sale. And then we had the gentleman with the DVD player, all accessories included. He also had that Superman comic, the gold edition. I think it was like a hundredth anniversary Superman comic.

Speaker 2:

I don't know if he was trying to get rid of that quarter he was talking about that had in Cod We Trust instead of God We Trust on the quarter. So that's kind of a cool little misprint. I know people are all about collecting misprint

Speaker 3:

I coins, which wonder if one of the pawn shops would be able to give him a little bit more insight or just to, I mean

Speaker 2:

Give him some ideas or Right.

Speaker 3:

I mean, maybe it's worth only 25¢. I don't know. Maybe it's worth 20 because it's not complete.

Speaker 2:

So if you're interested in any of those items with that gentleman, give him a call at (907) 419-5262. And then we had the lady call with the boys clothing, the large bin of size eight boys clothes, and then the small bin of sizes five to six, asking $40 for the large bin and $25 for the smaller bin of clothes. They also have some train sets, some vinyl, some wooden with accessories, as well as a countertop kind of white grayish color. If you're interested in any of those items, give her a call at (907) 723-3971. And it looks like it's time to take our first commercial break.

Speaker 2:

We'll be right back with more problem corner here on KINY.

Speaker 1:

This is where Juno comes to listen. KINY, local owned and operated. KINY, the news you need, the music you love.

Speaker 15:

ABC News. I'm Michelle Franzen. The FBI and Dallas police investigating a deadly shooting at an ICE facility today. ICE officials in a statement say no ICE officers were injured and say three people were shot. Authorities say the shooter also died from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Speaker 15:

ABC's Aaron Kutursky has more on the chaos.

Speaker 16:

We saw a statement from the Department of Homeland Security indicating that all three of those who were shot were definitively detainees of ICE and that two of them had died, even though Dallas police said in that news conference that one had died. So there is a bit of a discrepancy between the federal and local law enforcement agencies.

Speaker 15:

Ukraine's president Zelenskyy addressing the UN general assembly today calling on world leaders to stop Russia's aggression. It follows president Trump's criticism of Russia yesterday for its continued attacks in Ukraine. Typhoon Ragasa slamming Hong Kong with surge and flooding as the massive storm barrels through. Expected to make landfall along China's Southeast Coast today. This is ABC News.

Speaker 17:

Having insurance isn't the same as having State Farm. It's like needing a best man speech, but getting one from some random plus one.

Speaker 24:

I am honored to be standing here today. Also confused and a little hungry. Does, anyone wanna switch entrees?

Speaker 2:

Pretty sure I checked beef.

Speaker 17:

You wouldn't settle for just any speech, so don't settle for just any insurance. Get the real deal with State Farm. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.

Speaker 2:

You're

Speaker 25:

still glowing, flirting, grooving. You've still got it. But your immune system weakens as you age, making it harder to fight flu, pneumococcal pneumonia, RSV, and COVID nineteen. Vaccines are a key part of any health routine and help strengthen your immune response. Ask your doctor or pharmacist which vaccines you need.

Speaker 1:

Now back to problem corner where our community meets to talk, trade, and share.

Speaker 2:

And welcome back to problem corner on this Wednesday. I'm Justin Miller joining us from the Gold Bell Tram studio. And I also have Devin Stickler here in the studio hanging out with us today. Absolutely. And we've had quite different discussions today with a lot of stuff being sold.

Speaker 2:

We're talking about the Cure for Kade Radiothon, talking local sports. But I kind of threw some topics at you yesterday about stuff to kind of bring up the show. Feel like, not that it's not important, but we've definitely been hammering ballot initiatives, Telephone Hill here on the program. So I just wanted to shift the narrative for today.

Speaker 3:

Just lighten it up a little bit.

Speaker 2:

Kinda do something different. So I thought it'd be fun to kind of throw This has been a long standing topic in the community, but an activity or event you like to see more of in Juno, I think that's a great one because I threw out some ideas. I think it'll be, obviously, we're trying to find spots for our youth to hang out, like obviously, whether it be an all age venue or some sort of, like I know we've had the Civic Center conversation come up a lot, but I think it'd be really cool to have like a hangout spot, arcade x kind of zone here in town for like teens to go hang out at and have some food, play some video games and just chill out.

Speaker 3:

Especially with our our weather, you know, it's like having somewhere where kids can just go be kids would be awesome. I always thought that one of those trampoline park things would do so well here.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I think so too. I remember having a bunch of birthday parties at the gymnastics academy

Speaker 7:

That growing

Speaker 2:

a huge thing too.

Speaker 3:

I was going to those all the way into high school. I don't know if that was a thing in your group, but there was one of our kids actually shout out, I don't know if it was Dee or Dar. Anyway, one of them, like, threw their birthday party at the gymnastics academy.

Speaker 2:

Oh, wow.

Speaker 3:

And we were on the trampoline. I mean, talk about kids being kids. It was so fun. It was so like, it's just pure hearted fun.

Speaker 7:

Great.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 8:

Love it.

Speaker 2:

We do have

Speaker 4:

a call,

Speaker 2:

so let's get them on. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.

Speaker 26:

Good morning. This is my second or third call. I'm still missing my cat. Uh-oh. Thumbelina off of how off of Tongass.

Speaker 26:

She's been missing now going on two weeks.

Speaker 4:

Oh, no.

Speaker 26:

Seen her. She's polydactyl. She's a, Siamese cat. She's approximately four years old. She's got goldish brown eyes.

Speaker 26:

Anybody seen her? Phone number is 508041. And I've also still got the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. It just needs a transmission she runs, but she just doesn't go into gear.

Speaker 2:

Alrighty.

Speaker 26:

Same phone number.

Speaker 14:

Okay.

Speaker 26:

508041.

Speaker 3:

Alrighty. I'm so sorry about that.

Speaker 2:

That's a bummer about the cab. So let's try to see if we could get some folks out and about in the Tongass area there and just keep an eye out for you.

Speaker 26:

Thank you.

Speaker 2:

No problem, thanks for calling in.

Speaker 26:

Bye bye.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's always a bummer when your cat gets out. That's why I make sure my cats stay inside most of the time. I'm always scared to let my cats out, but I know, honestly, once they initialize that this is home and this is where I get fed, I'm going come back to it. But obviously a lot of people like will take straight like wandering cats and feed them. It's like, Oh, are you okay, kid?

Speaker 3:

Right. And the cats like, Oh, I get fed here too.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. So that's always an issue. So if you have a cat roaming around your neighborhood, you're not too sure about, maybe just let it be. And if you keep seeing it for days on days on days, maybe try to find a possible owner. So yeah, keep your eyes out around the Tongass Boulevard area.

Speaker 2:

Believe that's where the cat was, Siamese cat, goldish color. The number to call is 907508041. And we do have a couple calls on the line. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner.

Speaker 2:

You're live and on the air.

Speaker 9:

Oh, you probably recommend my voice.

Speaker 12:

I just don't have my things for sale.

Speaker 2:

Alrighty.

Speaker 9:

You can call me at

Speaker 12:

(907) 957-1673,

Speaker 10:

and I'll tell you what I have. Alright.

Speaker 3:

Oh, it's a secret.

Speaker 2:

He's got lots of different items. I'll kinda explain what

Speaker 27:

you got

Speaker 2:

on the air, mister, but I always appreciate calling in. We'll see if we could get those off your hands.

Speaker 9:

Yep. When what you guys talking about today?

Speaker 3:

We got all kinds of topics. We're talking sports. We're talking Cure for Cade. We're talking what else? We've kind of lately covered some of the what is it?

Speaker 2:

We talked about well, that first caller was talking about city hall

Speaker 3:

and Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. So it's kind of been a light brown corner today.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. We're trying trying to keep it a little lighter, trying to focus on all of the good things that are going on in our community because there really are so many good things going on.

Speaker 9:

Oh, yes.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely. You got any you got any good things to share with us, though? Any good things? Any good wins for your week? It's it's only Wednesdays.

Speaker 4:

It's really

Speaker 9:

a kite. My if I can't, yeah, it's a per perfect day past few days.

Speaker 3:

I love that. I love that. It's it is a perfect day for flying a kite. I love that outlook. Yep.

Speaker 3:

I'm gonna keep that in mind as I look out the window into that somewhat stormy weather out there.

Speaker 4:

I'm gonna think about how

Speaker 10:

good a

Speaker 3:

kite would be flying out there.

Speaker 10:

Yeah. You just go and have a three

Speaker 9:

d printer printer it up for you.

Speaker 3:

Hey. That's a great idea. Yeah. I love that. Awesome.

Speaker 3:

Thank you so much for calling.

Speaker 10:

A good thing.

Speaker 3:

You too.

Speaker 9:

Bye bye. Thank you.

Speaker 3:

Bye bye. You know, it's hard because I don't know all these regulars like you do. I know. I'm like, wait a minute. Wait a minute.

Speaker 2:

I've kind of coined him the nickname, the movie guy.

Speaker 3:

Okay. Okay. I wondered if that was him, the movie guy.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. So he's

Speaker 3:

That was the movie guy.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. Some of the items he's got, obviously he's got some movies. I know he's got a mongoose bike he's trying to get rid of as well as far as well as a few other items. So if you're interested in any of those

Speaker 3:

Contact the movie guy.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. (907) 957-1673.

Speaker 3:

Awesome.

Speaker 2:

And let's get to some more calls. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.

Speaker 7:

Hey. What's up, buttercup?

Speaker 2:

Not much, mister. How are you doing today?

Speaker 14:

Oh, just enjoying this liquid sunshine, staying on the covers, trying to avoid all the umbrellas wandering around under the awnings. You

Speaker 2:

know? Oh, yeah.

Speaker 3:

Well, that's like when going back to the whole kite thing.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. I know. You're just gonna fly away up the umbrella.

Speaker 27:

Yeah. I just have

Speaker 14:

a quick comment. What do you think about the Russian bomber and the two Chinese jet fighters over Alaska?

Speaker 2:

I have not heard of that. Devin, have you seen anything on that?

Speaker 3:

You know, I guess I've heard about it. I again, I've been really trying to stay away from, like, heavy news lately. I feel like there's been so much of it, so I don't know a whole lot about it.

Speaker 14:

Yeah. Well, I'm I stay very interested in the news because, you know, I'd rather see what's coming rather than, you know,

Speaker 10:

get a rude awakening.

Speaker 14:

But but that, you know, that's kinda they say Russia and China, you know, they're they're I wish Trump didn't put tariffs on China. They're our allies, and then we have to start, you know, putting curves on them because I bet everybody in America just about has made in China objects sitting in their living room.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 14:

Yeah. So so anyway, and the thing on House on Haunted Hill, you know, there's plenty of other places to build apartments if they want housing. You know? Why evict somebody? You know?

Speaker 14:

There are plenty plenty of places in June to put housing.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. That's definitely a

Speaker 2:

is indeed.

Speaker 3:

Another one of those heavy topics that just yeah. You know, I I I truly I don't know what the right solution is there. You know what I mean? I mean, I hate I hate that people are getting kicked out. I hate the lack of housing.

Speaker 3:

It's like you know, it's such a Yeah. I feel like there's not a whole lot of winners here.

Speaker 14:

That was just my thoughts for today. Can we Thank be lacking deals.

Speaker 2:

Have a good one, mister. Always like his sign off every time

Speaker 3:

he calls. I love it.

Speaker 2:

And we do have another call. Let's get him on. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.

Speaker 10:

Hi. This is Mel.

Speaker 2:

Hey, Mel. How's it going?

Speaker 10:

It it's going pretty good.

Speaker 2:

What's on your mind today?

Speaker 10:

Sorry to I would like to respond a while back about the two of us had called about the Jimmy Kimball thing, and I I I wanna sum it up real quick. I don't wanna take up too much time. And I got a a rebuttal.

Speaker 3:

Okay.

Speaker 10:

And and I I understand the freedom of speech and so did Jimmy Kimball. And he he run his monologue last night for a little while, And he had sat down with the Disney people, the hierarchy, and they had a talk. And first of all, he had a a lot of protest, a lot of backing, and a skit from an actor playing a hoodlum, mofisco and what have you. He was trying to keep it light, but my freedom of speech is strong as his. And he had talked about the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Speaker 10:

And

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 10:

And he said it affected him, and it also affected me because this this man had his own views, and and he was strong on it. And he was expressing his views. And as Jimmy Kimbell was talking, he he got it really emotional. He didn't cry, but he said he was greatly affected by this cowardly act. So I I welcome people to re rebuttal because I'm only exercising my freedom of speech.

Speaker 10:

And and I I also listened to the Stephen Colbert who is also affected. He's going off the air. He's got a long time to say goodbye. That's all I got today. You too.

Speaker 10:

You're all doing a good job, and I wanna thank the radio station for problem corner. Thank you.

Speaker 3:

Thank you so much for calling in. I appreciate your your views on things. That's what this Yes. You know, and that's what this program's for. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Right? That's the best thing about problem corner is that folks can call in. We can talk about what needs to be talked about.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. I'm not going to jump too far into that Jimmy Kimmel thing, but yeah, I saw that he got not booted briefly, but then now he's going back on the air.

Speaker 3:

So Right.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. It got settled real quick. And we do got some more calls. Hi. Welcome, Problem Corner.

Speaker 2:

You're live and on the air.

Speaker 27:

Yeah. I'm just calling to kind of rebut what Mel had called in about. Mhmm. The about freedom of speech.

Speaker 10:

Yeah.

Speaker 27:

And and public airwaves. So there's a difference between broadcast and and cable. Right?

Speaker 12:

Right.

Speaker 27:

Because one is public airwaves, which is what ABC, NBC, all those folks are. You can put up a set of rabbit ears and get it Right.

Speaker 10:

And get

Speaker 27:

get the channels versus, you know, Cinemax, HBO Mhmm. And all those types of of you know, there's there's just different differences.

Speaker 3:

Right.

Speaker 27:

And if you're not making money, you you can get canceled. Right? The the the network can cancel you.

Speaker 3:

Right.

Speaker 27:

And similarly, David Ignal, which was is on your show, is is no is was asked not to come back because of something that he likely said on the air. And

Speaker 4:

is that is that

Speaker 27:

not a freedom of speech thing, or is that public airwaves? Or was it just people upset because of what he's been researching through the years on the on the court systems? You know? It's like you can't you gotta pick a lane, Mel. You can't have it both ways.

Speaker 10:

Right.

Speaker 27:

You gotta so is David McNell just gonna get talked to and ask then ask to come back, or or is he permanently banned kinda like Jimmy Kimmel, which actually got reinstated? So, you know, people wanna take and, you know, pick sides, but they only want it to be one-sided. And that and that's just not that's not right.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. That is always a

Speaker 27:

When you're talking about freedom of speech, you need to know what what you're talking about. One is public airwaves. One is like, if if I started cussing right now, you could cut me off.

Speaker 4:

Mhmm. Right?

Speaker 27:

Right. If you started cussing, they could fire you.

Speaker 6:

Right.

Speaker 27:

Because it isn't a freedom of speech. There there's regulations, FCC regulations that that the broadcasting networks have to follow.

Speaker 3:

Right.

Speaker 2:

That's very true.

Speaker 27:

Now HBO and places things like that, you can do almost whatever you want any time of the day that you want because you're paying for that subscription. So they can cuss and show nudity, whatever

Speaker 3:

Mhmm.

Speaker 27:

You know, on the on those channels. Right. But on the public airwaves, you can't because it's just a different animal. Yeah. So, anyway, I'm just kinda throwing that out there.

Speaker 27:

I don't know if people realize that dig David McNell was basically fired from hosting problem corner as far as my understanding because of something that he said that someone probably disagreed with. And so so so he got canceled. You know? It's like, pick a lane, folks. Thanks.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. No problem.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. Thanks thanks so much for calling. I appreciate that.

Speaker 2:

And that kinda segues to that conversation of last Wednesday, and we're not cutting ties with Dave Ignil, but we did ask and then we were not gonna do the remote hosting anymore. And I just did wanna throw out a public apology to the family that we did bring up that topic and it did bring up some past feelings. So just wanted to apologize for that. And yeah, we're not trying to cut off connections to anyone or anything, but yeah, we do want folks to get their voices heard. We do got a couple more calls.

Speaker 2:

We've got about ten more minutes left of the program, so let's get these folks on. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.

Speaker 7:

Oh, your your last caller. You know, those things just

Speaker 12:

as noise pollution too. You

Speaker 7:

know? I listen to problem corner for other for opinions and stuff like that and other people's opinions. Yeah. But they don't have to go on and on and on about it. You know?

Speaker 7:

I see what he's saying on on TV. You know? There's Jimmy Kimmel getting reinstated. I watch the news. I got Internet.

Speaker 7:

You know? Mhmm. It's all over that. And that Kirk stuff, it's all it's all old news. You know?

Speaker 7:

So

Speaker 6:

Okay. Yep. Anyway

Speaker 3:

Yeah. Thank you so much for calling.

Speaker 7:

Yeah. You you too. Take care.

Speaker 3:

You too. Bye bye.

Speaker 9:

Bye bye.

Speaker 2:

And we got another call. Hi. You're live on Problem Corner.

Speaker 12:

Yeah. I'm gonna get back on this free speech thing. I I I don't care what anybody else wants to say about it because they all have their own opinion and everything, but free speech is free speech no matter what the heck it is. The difference in some of these is the fact that somebody has an employer, somebody that tells them you can't say that. They either say

Speaker 14:

it or they don't, and

Speaker 12:

they pay the price if they do or if they don't. And so you know what? Free speech, whether you like it or not, because there's there's so much stuff goes on around here. I've I I would love to shut down, but you know what? First amendment free speech people, you know, where you don't have to listen.

Speaker 12:

You can tear it off. You can go away, whatever. But they have a right to do it and say it, and it's just a matter of they pay a price for it. K. We'll pay the price for it because they shut them down, and then they brought them back because they had to yell.

Speaker 12:

Now, I mean, I'm not sure why they brought them back or anything because I never watch them anyway. But still Right. Free speech is free speech no matter where you are or what you're saying or doing. It's just a matter of if you pay a price for it or not.

Speaker 3:

Right.

Speaker 2:

Great.

Speaker 3:

Thank you. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

It's always tough with some of those folks brought up as like, yeah, we're some private and public, as a big thing. And obviously you're allowed certain amount of things to discuss on. Obviously, if there's a certain topic, that's definitely kind of certain things. Sometimes you gotta get it cleared before putting on the airwaves and junk like that.

Speaker 3:

One, think I part of it too is who you're representing at

Speaker 7:

the time.

Speaker 3:

You know, are you representing yourself and only yourself when you're bringing up certain topics? Or are you representing a bigger entity? Right. You know? Just cool.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Alright. We got some more calls.

Speaker 3:

Let's hear it.

Speaker 2:

It's popping off. Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.

Speaker 8:

Well, well, well. Hi, Justin.

Speaker 2:

Hi there. How are you doing today?

Speaker 8:

I'm good, honey. I just love you. You're just the best.

Speaker 2:

I appreciate it.

Speaker 8:

I wanna know where I can get this free speech. I always have to pay a dollar.

Speaker 3:

A dollar?

Speaker 8:

Or $35 to get bailed out. If you disrupt the hearing in Washington DC, that's what it's gonna cost you. Okay. Well, that's what it used to cost it. Now this administration has turned that into a felony.

Speaker 8:

If you disrupt the hearing, it's a now felony charge. If you can believe that. So our code pink girls are getting charged with felony and all the other group. You know, I I've seen them over the years and I and some of them are just funny and some of them are stupid but they still have the right to be

Speaker 10:

heard and the only way

Speaker 8:

you can be heard in Washington DC at a hearing is to disrupt where the recorder, the man or woman with voice over things didn't hear you, and that's when you're And they hit the gavel. If you don't shut up when they hit the gavel, you're getting hooked up and out you go. Now, we know the rules and then, you know, you do. Hey, dollars 35 and didn't take eight or ten hours to get processed because they didn't want you going right back because they knew you would.

Speaker 3:

Mhmm. Right.

Speaker 8:

So which is the game. But it's the same thing that they do with these. Now they've gone after the late night people for their whatever. But, you know, hey, I support Mel. I love him.

Speaker 8:

And all the other people that say, you know, we have the right to say something as long as it's not too nasty and crude and rude. You know? I understand all that, but I appreciate its format and you guys having this discussion. It's the way the problem corner is and used to be and hope it stays this way.

Speaker 2:

We're trying to keep it flowing this like open discussion and like, obviously sometimes the hosts come in with a couple of topics like I came in with today, but honestly we all know problem corner topics shift as quickly as our conversations go. Absolutely.

Speaker 8:

And as quickly as the wind blows.

Speaker 3:

And it's blowing quick out there, so.

Speaker 8:

It is. Okay, kids. That's all for me. Thank you. Yes.

Speaker 2:

I always appreciate hearing from you. You have a good one. I always like when she calls in. Oh, we got a few more minutes left of the program, so let's

Speaker 3:

get She's another one of those Problem Corner regulars. Yes.

Speaker 10:

To hear. Mhmm.

Speaker 2:

Hi. Welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air.

Speaker 7:

Hey, Justin Molino here. Hey. I just wanna do a fun one and say hi to Sardine, the newest, Gucci mama. Right?

Speaker 2:

Ah, yes.

Speaker 7:

Hi, Devin. We miss you.

Speaker 3:

Hi. How are you doing?

Speaker 7:

Oh, doing good. Looking forward to next year. Alright. That's all I got. I figured I'd do a fun thing.

Speaker 3:

I'm so glad you did, Molina. Made my whole day.

Speaker 2:

See you guys later.

Speaker 3:

See you later.

Speaker 2:

I appreciate you.

Speaker 3:

The sea pirate himself.

Speaker 2:

I know. It's always good to hear. Every now and then, Molina will Captain Molina will call into the program and throw his 2¢ into some conversations, but it's always good to hear from him.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely.

Speaker 2:

And we do got another call. Hi, welcome to Problem Corner. You're live and on the air with a couple more minutes left.

Speaker 4:

Okay. Well, that's probably I might not even take up that much. I just wanna read something

Speaker 10:

on our free speech here. Mhmm.

Speaker 4:

Freedom of speech is the right to express ideas without government appearance. A right primarily protected by US by the First Amendment to the constitution. While abroad, the right is not absolute and has limitation, particularly for categories like incitement, true threats, and defamation, which can be restricted by law. The concept of the spoken words to include symbolic acts and various needed by but government restriction must be contact neutral and narrow territory.

Speaker 2:

And that was a that was straight out of the constitution for a free speech.

Speaker 4:

That's what's set my laws in the constitution.

Speaker 2:

Oh, great.

Speaker 3:

Perfect, thank you so much for sharing that. I appreciate that.

Speaker 4:

All right, thanks, bye bye.

Speaker 2:

All right, we're down to our final couple minutes. I think it's a good time. This is usually when I go back and re echo some of the calls that we had. So our first call that we got was that garage sale going on this Saturday at 8AM over on 1022 Coogan Drive. And then we had the gentleman with the DVD player with all the accessories, also has that Superman comic, that Gold Edition.

Speaker 2:

I don't know if he's willing to par with that 2023 quarter that says, In COD, we trust. If you're interested in any of those items, give them a call at (907) 419-5262. And then we had the boys clothing, the large bins of size eight clothing for $40. And then the smaller bin size five to six for about $25 also has a couple of train sets of vinyl and wooden trains with accessories, as well as a countertop with white gray coloring. We also had that lady with the missing Siamese cat off a Tongass.

Speaker 2:

It's kind of goldish colored eyes. She also has that 2005 Pathfinder, still cosmetically condition sound, but it does need a new transmission for that. So if you're interested in the car or if you have any whereabouts of this Siamese cat, give her a call at (907) 500-8041. And then our good friend, the movie guy with his items, his bikes, his movies, and all the other things that you might have on hand, give him a call at (907) 957-1673. And we're down to our last thirty seconds.

Speaker 2:

As always, I appreciate you joining Problem Corner. Know this is your second appearance of 2025 on Problem Corner.

Speaker 3:

Looking forward to many more. I really enjoy this.

Speaker 2:

I know, it's a great time. And yeah, we had quite a amount of calls. I think we had about 14 or 15 calls on the air So that's usually a good number I always like to stick with.

Speaker 3:

Good conversations, great people. That's what June was about.

Speaker 2:

I know. Then we shifted into freedom of speech conversations right there at the end. It definitely was very engaging.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, but I appreciate everyone, you know, with the respectful dialogue

Speaker 2:

Yeah, of that was great. As always, you could call in or shoot us an email. Tomorrow will be Katie Bosler and I here on the program, and then Friday will be me and Kenny Salma Gross again. So hope you guys have a great rest of your Wednesday. It's me and Devin Audi here on KINY.
