Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
In giving up His Son, He has poured out to us all heaven in one gift.
The Saviour’s life and death and intercession, the ministry of angels,
the pleading of the Spirit, the Father working above and through all,
the unceasing interest of heavenly beings,—all are enlisted in behalf of
man’s redemption. – Steps to Christ, pg. 21
“What should we get Dad for Christmas?” my brother mused.
“I don’t know… something awesome,” my vague reply earned
an unimpressed stare from Nathan, but suddenly his visual assault
transformed into a look of epiphany.
“We should get him a fishing rod!” His announcement
immediately won my acclamation. At the time, my brother and I loved
fishing with Dad, and he loved gifts that we made for him by hand.
Ordering the materials that were necessary to begin our project, the
two of us devoured any information on rod crafting we could find.
The project took over a month, and it was torture to conceal
our excitement from our dad. We worked on it whenever we had a
spare moment; it was even satisfying to just look at it. Seeing the
project taking shape, I felt like a volcano on the verge of erupting.
Christmas morning finally came; my brother and I tried to politely
ignore the other presents that we were given, for we had waited too
long already. Dragging our perplexed parent into the basement, we
presented our father with the greatest gift we had ever given.
“Can we go?” I can imagine Christ pleading with anticipation
as He prepares His return to earth. The tension in heaven is peaking;
the universe’s finest resources have been poured into one gift for
humanity. But will they accept it? The joyous news spreads across
earth like water in a desert, but some still choose to deny God’s gift.
Will I be ready to receive the greatest gift in the universe? By His
grace, I will be ready.
