And here’s today’s news from Rail Technology Magazine in association with TransCity Rail – on Monday the 17th June 2024.

Alstom has signed a £370 million contract to bring a new batch of passenger trains to the Elizabeth Line.
The contract means that Alstom will build ten new nine-car Aventra trains and carry out associated maintenance for Transport for London (TfL) until 2046.
The trains will be funded by £220.5 million from the Department for Transport.
The Elizabeth Line, which opened in 2022, already has a fleet of 70 Alstom-built Aventra Class 345 trains. However, doubts that the existing fleet will be big enough to meet rising demand over the next few years led to the new contract.

Škoda Group has revealed the final design of Gothenburg’s new M31 trams, as modernisation work on the fleet begins.
Several new upgrades to the trams will help them to be more resilient to the Nordic climate. Each tram is set to be fitted with new doors, improved heating and air conditioning, an all-new braking system and a boarding ramp which will improve mobility in all weather conditions.
Carrier Västtrafik AB currently operates a fleet of 79 M31 trams, which were originally built between 1984 and 1986. They have previously undergone major upgrades in 2011 and 2017.
The latest phase of modernisation work will last until 2028, and is expected to extend the lifespan of the trams by at least 15 years.
