New episodes tend to air over the local KMMR radio station @ 5 minutes past 4PM each M-F. And have been doing so, nearly every week since Sept 2018.

I'm D.J. I want to again welcome you to The 405 Coffee Break. Guys, get you a cup of coffee, glass of iced tea, bottle of water. Let's see what's happening.

OK Solberg:

Sit down and get ready to think because Thea still hasn't got me the Spring Wheat price or the Steer Calf price. So... but guys there's more, much more.

OK Solberg:

It's Friday, you know that. And the weekend's coming and I feel like charging into it like a Hurdling Gust of Woodpeckers. Now you might not know, so I'm gonna tell you. There is no evidence of that saying on the Internet that I can find, but I swear to you that I have heard it somewhere. Could it be that rock and roll singers are fond of this saying?

OK Solberg:

It's been rumored that several of the great rock musicians were fond of the expression, although most of them preferred not to explain exactly what it meant. Now the ones who knew what it meant didn't talk about it.

OK Solberg:

The ones who talked about it, well, they didn't know what it meant. Now please realize these statements will not hold up in a court of laws. They are based upon hearsay.

OK Solberg:

But you do know seriously that there are more than 200 species of woodpeckers worldwide. Check it out. They occur on every continent except Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, Madagascar, and in the polar regions. Everywhere else, there's woodpeckers. You can look it up for yourself.

OK Solberg:

Or as grandpa used to say, put that in your pipe and smoke it. It's it's also known that some woodpeckers are extraordinarily loud. Northern flickers have been documented drumming on an abandoned tractor that could be heard for a half a mile away.

OK Solberg:

And whether you like the saying or not, it's documented that the acorn woodpecker is borderline obsessive about food storage. Groups create granary trees, they call them granary trees, by drilling holes into wood and stuffing them with acorns.

OK Solberg:

A single granary tree can contain up to 50,000 holes. And when all else fails, know this and check me out on this fact, one group of acorn woodpeckers put approximately 485 pounds of acorns into a wooden water tank in Arizona. Can you believe it? That's just nuts. And here's one that sounds made up but isn't.

OK Solberg:

The oldest recorded acorn woodpecker lived at least seventeen years and three months. Red headed woodpeckers have been around a long time. Fossils dating back over 2,000 years have been found in Florida, Virginia, and Illinois. Now guys, when I say red headed woodpecker, what comes to mind? You gotta know Woody Woodpecker.

OK Solberg:

And did you know Woody Woodpecker 1st appeared on 11/25/1940 in the Andy Panda cartoon called Knock Knock. He wasn't originally the star. He was a pesty supporting actor who stole the show. Did you know that Woody changed considerably over the years? See, the original Woody was pretty wild looking.

OK Solberg:

He was a maniac. Later, artists gradually made him rounder, cuter, and more restrained. Guys, I have to tell you, I always like woody woodpecker on Saturday morning cartoons. So now remember where we started, like a hurdling gust of woodpeckers.

OK Solberg:

I don't know exactly, but given that a northern flicker that can be heard drumming from a half a mile away and an acorn woodpecker can put 485 pounds of acorns in a water tank, I'm not inclined to stand in their way.

OK Solberg:
