Good morning, welcome. Today’s Torah portion, the third portion of Parshas Shlach, is a difficult one as it describes the sin of the spies and the devastating consequences. The spies, except for Yehoshua and Kaleiv, delivered a negative report about the land of Israel, causing the people to rebel against God and Moshe. God was so upset, He wanted to destroy the Jewish people and start over with Moshe. Moshe argued with God saying that the Egyptians would then say that God wasn’t strong enough to defeat the Canaanites. God conceded and instead decreed that the generation of the spies would die out in the desert, while their children would enter the land. God instructed the people to turn back into the desert, but they didn’t listen and were attacked by the Amalekites. The Haftorah teaches about God’s attribute of patience, even with the wicked. Moshe prayed for God’s forgiveness after the sin of the golden calf, using God’s attribute of patience, even though Moshe initially said that patience only applied to the righteous. This teaches that God forgives those who repent. This podcast was produced and sponsored by Daniel Aharonoff.
