Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
He is to be with us, not only at the beginning and the end of our
course, but at every step of the way. – Steps to Christ, pg. 69
“What do you want to do for your birthday, Nahi?” My mom
inquired. My sixteenth birthday was coming up, and we were busy
making plans and exploring different options. The rest of my family
could not celebrate with us, since the Pacific Ocean lay between our
family and theirs. The thought of going to a restaurant wasn’t too
appealing to me either. After musing over all the options, I decided that
spending the day with my mom sounded ideal.
Finally, the special day arrived. “Are you ready?” My mom
happily asked me.
“Yep!” I replied with excitement as I hurriedly retrieved my blue
hiking backpack. We had decided to hike at Banff, one of Canada’s
magnificent national parks.
The long car ride soon grew monotonous, and music seemed
like the perfect solution to my boredom. I sank deeper into my seat
and prepared myself for the long drive ahead.
Suddenly my mom exclaimed, “Look, Nahi!”
My eyes darted in the direction she was indicating, and my
apathy turned into amazement. A seemingly endless, cylinder-shaped
cloud decorated the morning sky.
Absorbing the breathtaking sight, I was reminded of the
Israelites’ arduous pilgrimage to the promised land of Canaan. A pillar
of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night indicated God’s watchcare
and companionship with His people.
That day as I beheld the magnificent scene, the story
transformed from a mere event in the past into a relevant application.
God reminded me by a cloud that He is beside me as I journey to
Heaven.
