This podcast is purposefully crafted to serve as a reminder for born-again believers about our identity in Christ. It seeks to deepen our comprehension of the profound power and potential inherent in the Gospel that has been entrusted to us. In this show, we will delve into various contemporary challenges confronting believers and provide biblical insights to diagnose these issues.
A few years ago I went to a church service back in India, and while I was listening to the sermon, it was very fascinating that the preacher was talking about the perfection in which he had kept the law and the people in that church had kept the law. The church had gone through a lot of blessings. They were saying that we have lived a life of purity. This is not just about that single church, but you see this throughout the world. You say it is by the grace of God that we are able to keep the law.
Speaker 1:So let me ask this question to you. We know that there are six thirteen laws, right? How many of them are you keeping? When someone says that they're keeping the law, how many of them exactly are they keeping? They're definitely not keeping the six thirteen laws because I don't see them, you know, taking a lamb and sacrificing the lamb or doing anything like that.
Speaker 1:But one thing very fascinating is that when people say they're keeping the law, they kind of divide it into moral and ceremonial laws, which is nowhere in the Bible. It doesn't say moral laws or ceremonial laws, it says the law. So when you see Paul bashing all the law, he means all of the law, not just the ceremonial law, it's all of the law. Alright let's get back into this. So when you say that you're keeping the law, how many of those laws are you actually keeping?
Speaker 1:I've noticed when I've talked to people that people like to cherry pick laws according to what suits their needs. If someone has a tattoo they say look at that the Bible says that you're not supposed to have a tattoo, you're not supposed to defy your body. But then a few chapters later the Bible also talks about having wearing garments with two different types of fabric and why is it that we neglect that and we kind of focus on the tattoo. Do we keep all those 613 laws? The Bible says that in Galatians chapter five it says that if you are practicing the law you are obliged to keep the whole law, whole law, and even James talks about this.
Speaker 1:He says that if you fail in one, you failed it all. I don't want to belittle the people who are following the law or trying to follow the law because they have good intentions, but you don't realize that eventually you are entering into hypocrisy. Just think about this, you're supposed to follow the six thirteen laws but we divide it and we say no we're gonna keep this this moral laws. Even in those moral laws, okay what exactly are those moral laws? Nothing's written right?
Speaker 1:So you've come up with something. What are those? Okay. Some people actually say it's those 10 commandments. Alright.
Speaker 1:10 commandments. So we should keep the 10 commandments. Right? What about the Sabbath law? Should we keep the Sabbath law?
Speaker 1:You do your work on a Sabbath, you go and do your grocery shopping on a Sabbath, so that's a sin you're not keeping that law. You're not supposed to do anything if you're following the Sabbath law. Alright so that means nine. You see where I'm going with this right, you see that I am cherry picking my own laws here, I'm taking things at my convenience. So if person A has nine laws, person B has nine plus the tattoo law, and person C has the nine plus okay ornaments, they add traditions to it, that they say that you're not supposed to wear jewelry because if you wear jewelry that's a sin.
Speaker 1:And I know of churches that they won't allow you to take part in communion if you wear jewelry saying that it was forbidden in the time of the Old Testament. I don't know. That's not what the Bible says but people add their own traditions. So who comes up with these things? Who gets to decide what laws to follow and what laws not to follow?
Speaker 1:That's the part where I'm confused about. So if you're saying that you keep nine, okay, should be consistent, but you're saying nine plus some of their traditions, but some people say that you're not supposed to do this, you're not supposed to do that. They pick and add laws as they please. This is where the problem is that we try to add up our own traditions and we put that as a law. Another law is about tithing.
Speaker 1:People actually say that you need to every month, and if you don't tithe, you're violating God, you're robbing God. And they use Malachi chapter three in order to say that, and here's another one law. So that is nine plus, you know, the the tithing law plus the tattoo law. This is absolutely comical because the Bible doesn't say that. If you are a Gentile, which is more likely that you are, did you know that you don't have to keep those laws because the laws were not given to you in the first place?
Speaker 1:But yeah, if you're planning to keep the law, make sure you keep the six thirteen of those, no picking and choosing because if you do one of the laws, if you keep, if you start with the law, you're obliged to keep all of the law and the Bible says that you are under the curse of the law. Instead of keeping those laws, we are supposed to live by the spirit. The Bible says that we are saved by grace through faith and not by a checklist of do's and don'ts. The Bible salvation is about what Christ has already done, and it's not about what you have to do over and over again in order to be saved. It's not about you keep your salvation or you show your salvation by doing a set of things.
Speaker 1:You're either saved or you aren't saved, And salvation is by faith, and salvation is by faith, and God provided to us everything by grace. And you see, it's not about about what laws to keep, it's not about circumcision, it's not about what tattoos you had, it's not about what you wear during communion and all of those kind of things. Instead, we're asked to live in the freedom that is in Christ Jesus, the freedom of living in the spirit, that's what God wants from us and that's what we're supposed to do. And I hope that you aren't cherry picking laws and saying that you're keeping them. Either keep those six thirteen laws, otherwise have faith in God and trust for His righteousness.
Speaker 1:And I hope you understand that I'm saying it sarcastically because by keeping the law no man will be justified.
