Good morning and
welcome to Morning Syria.
Okay, good morning and
welcome to Wednesday.
Good news people, it is
all downhill from here.
And today we recognize
National Make a Friend Day.
So prepare yourself
mentally to get out there
and smile at someone or
maybe buy someone a coffee.
Just remember this,
friends are the family
that we actually get to choose.
All right, here is
yesterday's trivia answer.
Greenwich, as in the greenwich mean time.
It's not a fancy sandwich.
That's what the G stands for in GMT.
All right, now the essential vitamins
in your morning cereal.
Today's quote is from
birthday girl turning 56 today,
Jennifer Aniston, who said, quote,
"There are no regrets
in life, just lessons."
Now, our friend
Jennifer is right here, right?
Negative experiences,
mistakes, and failed attempts
should be viewed as
opportunities for growth
rather than sources of shame or guilt.
All right, well, let's go
ahead and hear from the experts.
Now it is time to pour in some
The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins.
And today's chapter has one
of the most jarring titles
in the entire book.
Here it is, They Don't Like You, Wake Up.
And while that might
sound harsh at first,
Mel delivers it with
clarity and compassion
and a whole lot of freedom
on the other side, all right?
So stick with us on this one.
This chapter is all about
releasing the exhausting need
to be liked, approved of,
or validated by everyone around you.
Mel explains that most
people don't struggle
because they're unlovable.
They struggle because
they keep chasing people
who have already made it clear they're
just not interested.
As she writes, quote,
"When someone doesn't like you,
that's information, it's not an
emergency," end quote.
So she points out how much
time and emotional energy
that we waste trying to win people over,
co-workers who don't respect us,
friends who barely reciprocate, right?
Romantic interests
who send mixed signals.
Mel's message is simple
here, but it's powerful.
Stop chasing clarity from
people who have already given you
an answer through the
way that they behave, okay?
One of the strongest
lines here in this chapter
is when Mel says this, quote,
"This interest is not a challenge, it's a
boundary," end quote.
So that line, it
refrains rejection entirely.
Instead of seeing it as
something to overcome or fix,
she invites us to see it as a signal,
pointing us toward people and spaces
where we actually belong, right?
Mel also emphasizes that not being liked
doesn't mean you did something wrong,
it means you're human.
Personalities clash,
values differ, seasons change,
and trying to contort yourself
to fit into places you don't belong,
well, it only leads to
resentment and burnout, right?
As she bluntly puts it, quote,
"You don't need closure, you need
clarity," end quote.
So this chapter is deeply freeing
because it gives permission to stop
explaining yourself,
stop auditioning, and
stop softening your edges
to make other people comfortable.
When you let them not like
you, you reclaim your time,
you reclaim your
confidence and your peace.
Mel is reminding us that
authenticity is a filter.
The more real you are, the more clearly
people will self-select
in or out of your life,
and that's a good thing.
You don't need to be liked by everyone,
you just need to be
aligned with yourself.
All right, here it is, everyone.
Your hump day takeaway
is stop chasing approval.
When someone doesn't
choose you, let them.
Choose yourself instead.
All right, cereal is
nearly finished here.
Courage has been restored, so go forth
and take on the day with renewed energy.
But first, the prize from
the bottom of the cereal box,
morning cereal trivia
question of the day.
Here it is.

by Alexander the Great?
