The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. The feast of Saint Gorgonius, Martyr, September 9 in the year of our Lord 2026. Of today's saint, Dom Gaspar Lefevre writes the following. Gorgonius was born at Nicomedia. While an officer of the household of Diocletian, he converted to the faith of Christ with the help of his colleague Dorothy all the servants of the imperial palace.
Vox Liturgica:To punish them for such audacity, they were hung up and their bodies lacerated by whips. Then vinegar and salt were thrown on their uncovered entrails and they were strangled after having been roasted on a gridiron. They were put to death at Nicomedia in the year of our Lord 600. Later the body of Saint Gorgonius was buried at Rome on the Latin way whence it was eventually translated to the Basilica Of Saint Peter. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
Vox Liturgica:Amen. The introit. The just shall rejoice in the Lord and shall hope in him. And all the upright in heart shall be praised. Hear, O God, my prayer when I make supplications to thee.
Vox Liturgica:Deliver my soul from the fear of the enemy. Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. O Lord, may thy holy Gorgonius make us glad by his intercession and cause us to rejoice on his holy festival through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the second letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to Timothy. Dearly beloved, be fixed thy mind upon Jesus Christ sprung from the race of David who has risen from the dead.

Vox Liturgica:For its sake, I am ready to undergo anything for love of the elect that they, like us, may win salvation in Christ Jesus and eternal glory with it. The gradual. And yet it is impossible for one of them to fall to the ground without your heavenly father's will. And as for you, he takes every hair of your head into his reckoning. Do not be afraid then.
Vox Liturgica:You count for more than a host of sparrows. And now whoever acknowledges me before men, I too will acknowledge him before my father who is in heaven. The Offeratory. Lord, thou hast set a jeweled crown upon his head. He prayed for life, and thou hast granted his petition.
Vox Liturgica:The secret. May the sacrifice which we thy servants offer up, O Lord, be pleasing to thee, for which may thy holy Martyr, Gorgonius, be an intercessor through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface: Just it is indeed and fitting, right in for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, o holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, The power stand in awe. The heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify.
Vox Liturgica:We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Vox Liturgica:The communion. If anyone is to be my servant, he must follow my way. So shall my servant too be where I am. The post communion. Let us pray.
Vox Liturgica:May thy eternal sweetness descend upon and quicken thine household, O Lord. And in thy martyr, Gorgonius, may it ever be refreshed by the good odor of Christ thy son, who with thee liveth and reigneth in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy ghost. Amen.
