Crescendo Conversations

What are the four songs that shaped your life, career and identity?

What is Crescendo Conversations?

Titles describe, music reveals.
Crescendo Conversations is an interview series hosted by concert pianist and space-curator Zen Zeng, in which senior leaders share four pieces of music that shaped their identity, career, and life. In choosing four pieces, guests reveal something no CV or keynote ever could: the fear behind a decision, the doubt before a breakthrough, the ordinary humanity inside an extraordinary life. Each conversation moves through four territories: origins, interior moments of change, core values, and present direction. What emerges is not a leadership masterclass. It is something rarer: honest, unhurried conversation that reduces the distance between people and inspires listeners to step forward in their own lives.

Season One features a former Chief Medical Officer, a Global Senior Partner at KPMG, a former Australian Ambassador, a former WHO Director, a leader of global energy sector, and an award-winning Australian conductor. For high-functioning professionals who value depth, joy, and purpose, and who have outgrown ordinary content.

Zen Zeng:

Have you ever wondered how people become extraordinary? Not the version in the biography, not the title, not the accolade, the moment they arrived, but who they were before all of that. The experiences that quietly shaped them. The things that lit them up. The joy they treasured.

Zen Zeng:

The losses they carried, and the music that held them together when nothing else could. That question has followed me my entire life. And I think it follows a lot of us, especially those of us who believe that life is remarkable and quietly want to do more with ours. I'm Zen. I'm a concert pianist.

Zen Zeng:

And across everything I've done performing, listening, teaching, sitting with people in honest conversation I've noticed something. That the most important things are often the hardest to say out loud. And yet, the moment a piece of music plays, something opens. When words fail, music speaks. I've seen it happen.

Zen Zeng:

A single piece of music surfaces a memory, a grief, a joy and longing. A version of somebody they'd almost forgotten. It reaches the places that no direct question ever could. So I decided to use it as a thread. Crescendo Conversations is an interview series where I sit down with senior leaders, people who have navigated immense pressure, high stakes and profound responsibility.

Zen Zeng:

And I asked them to share four pieces of music that shaped who they have become. Not their greatest career achievement, not their leadership philosophy. The music. And I want you to know these are not conversations designed to impress. They are conversations designed to hold.

Zen Zeng:

Each guest arrives not to perform their success but to share what shaped it, what they carry, what moves them, what they've had to let go of to become who they are. What happens in that space is the reason I made this show. Because I came to understand the most remarkable people are as human as us. They feel fear, they carry grief, they have wishes and joy and doubt. And when that distance dissolves, something shifts.

Zen Zeng:

You stop being merely inspired by what they have achieved and you start believing in what you can do. Season one brings together six guests, a former Chief Medical Officer of Australia, a global leader of the energy sector, a former Australian ambassador, a former WHO director, a global senior partner and an Australian conductor artistic director. Six lives, 24 pieces of music and one thread running through all it. What does it actually sound like to live and lead with depth? This is Crescendo Conversations for people who believe life is extraordinary and choose to live accordingly.
