said threw in some other stuff um so
now i i tried to rearrange it the
cost went up exponentially so i'm just
gonna have to come in midway through

my daughter commutes from Lafayette to
Baton Rouge every day.
Her last day was Friday,
prepping for a HOMA move.
I went ahead and I actually told a
buddy that owns the CrossFit gym in HOMA,
one of the CrossFit gyms in HOMA,
that she was going to be coming.

you their information so she can go sign
up over there because they have an awesome
gym.

I did have something I wanted to bring
up because I was talking to David Johnson
this morning.
Um, it is unfortunately serious.
Um, so bear with us for a second.

I was talking and so I've been testing
some of the masters games workouts for a
couple of my friends and just kind of
let them know where I was and whatnot.
I had to talk with David Johnson this
morning, David Johnston this morning.
And, uh,
you know basically getting caught up and
he actually said hey do you have a
few minutes so that i can call you
which if anybody knows me like i i
have to like most people like if you're
gonna call me it must be something serious
um turns out it is his basically his
brother-in-law his wife's sister's husband
unexpectedly passed away over the weekend
um they have two small children one
thirteen one ten two boys that are in
travel baseball and um he has a I
have a I have the link I gotta
put it figure out a way to put
it up but I got a link for
a GoFundMe and just trying to help them
out as much as humanly possible um because
if you ever met David Johnson he is
a solid human being
um he's a good dude he is always
down to you know help with anything i'll
have questions on as far as you know
crossfit type stuff or just life in
general um and he is a an awesome
awesome human being to the point where and
if you got any kind of questions about
it whatsoever like he was telling me about
all this stuff right trying to help out
his you know his sister-in-law and whatnot
and take care of a lot of stuff
and he just casually mentioned that oh
yeah and my mom passed away as well
In the same timeframe.
Dang, dude.
Yeah.
So he is, uh,
he's kind of going through it right now.
So, you know, praying,
praying for them as much as humanly
possible.
And like I said, I got the link.
I'm going to try to, uh,
send it to myself so I can,
we can upload it into the chat at
the very least and see if, you know,
people want to give, I mean,
obviously anything you can would, would,
uh, would be amazing.

Games last year.

up um i also know that uh legends
was supposed to announce how many events
were
going to be happening at the Masters games
last with by last night.
They delayed it from last Monday to this
Monday.
Yeah,
they still did not meet that deadline.
I hate to say it's par for the
course at this point,
but it's par for the course at this
point.
I mean,
And if you've ever dealt with them
whatsoever,
being a competitor at one of their
competitions, this is natural.
This is just what happens often,
unfortunately.
Both times I've competed over there,
but the same type thing take place where
like, oh, yeah, expect this, this point.
Expect this at this point.
Expect this at this point.
And it's just when it comes to
communication.
I got to say this.
Programming aside, communication aside,
it's one of the better run while you're
in it.
Events, competitions,
whatever you want to call it that I've
ever been to.
Everything runs on time.
I'll agree with that.
They are very good at...
Logistics.
The logistics part of it is usually
fantastic.
And I will give them points for that.
It's the stuff around it that seems to
be lacking.
And then the actual programming,
it's hit or miss.
It's seriously hit or miss.
It's...
I don't know.
I feel like we keep beating on it,
and I don't want to do that.
It's hard because I'm so, like,
ingrained in it.
And Andrew Stentz said they just announced
it.
Okay.
The... I am so ingrained in it because...
All of my co-hosts are masters athletes,
right?
Yeah.
Two of them are competing at the CrossFit
games.
They are chomping at the bit to find
out what they are going to be up
against.
Sure.
So every night we have text strings going
about what workouts have been released.
How many are coming?
What do you think this means?
Blah, blah, blah.
Right.
So I'm just,
I'm sucked into the whole thing.
And so,
it does come out frequently on this show
because of that yeah you can't help it
like we're immersed in it at this point
and then you got to hear it from
you get to hear it from me you
get to hear it from uh jamie you
get to hear it from carolyn um aside
from all the other people that you know
in the space
Right.
That are also going to pile on,
on top of it.
If Shannon's in the comments, Kate said,
no, I'm going to talk to Kate tomorrow.
I'm sure she's super excited about,
you know, all the same,
the same type things.
So do we be on it a lot?
Yes,
but it's mostly because we're in it and
we,
we see what's going on and we just
wanted to be better.
And here's the deal, right?
The Masters athletes aren't doing it for
the glory.
They're not doing it for the money.
They're doing it because they enjoy the
sport and they want an opportunity to
play.
And in fairness,
they fund a lot of the season with
their open signups and quarterfinals and
their semifinals.
All they're asking for is an opportunity
to play.
That's it, right?
in and to make it feel like it's
a games experience yep that's it not
another one-off comp but a games
experience no and that's what we're
getting further and further away from
And Shanna said yesterday,
I sound like I was on Valium.
I'm just trying to be calm about it
because when I get heated about it,
then I start saying things that I really
probably shouldn't say.
Well,
and self-care is taken out of context
because you're emotionally invested
because, like you said,
three of your co-hosts are Masters
athletes, competitive Masters athletes,
two of them are Games athletes,
one of them is trying to be a
Games athlete.
So all of this stuff matters to us.
I do want to bring this up.

We are deeply saddened.
Yes, Rx for Time is an amazing man.
So sorry for that.

It was completely unexpected from what
David told me this morning.
You know, completely unexpected,
otherwise healthy.
So, yeah, I mean,
I can't even wrap my head around it.
Honestly, I can't.
uh no we want rant rant rant i
i mean i will still have those moments
sure but i had my rant sunday night
and now i'm just trying to let cooler
heads prevail um with the whole thing um
it's not that simple understand it's not
i would say andrew who i have a
point as far as that's concerned if it's
mfc or legends or waterpalooza whatever
pick a thing yeah no i had a
terrible experience over there i'm not
going back cool i get that this is
the games it mean it it means more
it just does whether or not there's no
substitute for it no whether or not
legends is running i think where i do
think andrew's right is people are going
to choose not to do the season
Because there is no tie to anything
anymore.
Yeah.
And then you get less and less Masters
athletes doing the season.
That's less and less money in the coffers
for the whole season.
It doesn't, I'm not, I know, listen,
every time I post anything about Masters,
well, nobody goes to watch them.
I don't want to see them.
I want to see them.
All they're asking for is an opportunity
to play the game.
make it feel like it's a games experience
they pay a lot of money to the
season that's all they're asking for the
vast majority of us like i say the
vast majority is that the the ones of
us that i know we don't first of
all we don't have sponsors
That's not a thing.
Or if it is,
it's not enough to do anything with.
So you are going there on your own
nickel.
You're taking your vacation time from work
that you could be going spend with your
family and whatnot to go and see who's
the best exerciser.
We're not doing it for money because
there's not enough money to do it in.
We are doing it for the challenge itself,
for the community,
and to be able to say, hey,
I am one of the fittest people on
the planet in my age group.
For me, that's a big deal.
I've never been one of the anything on
the planet in my age group.
But this is what we're getting to.
The problem is the Masters games does not
mean more anymore.
We are getting a Masters fatigue.
And maybe some people think that's a good
thing.
I don't.
Whatever.
And Andrew says, be careful.
But Legends is not CrossFit HQ.
People make assumptions.
I have blasted HQ.
Yeah, for the same thing.
I think getting rid of a festival...
takes away from the overall CrossFit
community.
And that includes like campground,
beer gardens, all that stuff, right,
to hang out with fellow CrossFitters.
The other thing is they have no oversight.
If they truly wanted this to be and
they wanted to share in the equipment and
all of that stuff,
that's on HQ as well.
the second thing that you just said i
think is the more important thing is that
they're just like okay do whatever you
want and whether they actually said that
or not that's what it feels like and
that's what it seems like right a lot
of these workouts come out we talked about
it yesterday and it clearly either nobody
has tested them or they've only been
tested by like two people
And the two people are not,
it's not a good sample size,
especially not when you got everything
from thirty five to thirty nine,
whatever the highest one is now,
seventy plus sixty five plus whatever that
is.
Like you need a couple of people from
each single one to be able to look
at or at least get somebody from thirty
five, thirty nine to say forty five,
forty nine.
Get a couple people from that group,
whether it's three or four of those
people, male and female.
That part is super important.
You need testers all along the age groups.
I don't disagree.
I think the programming for younger age
groups is one direction.
The programming for older age is another
direction.
And both are at extremes.
Yeah.
A hundred percent.
I'm trying to be realistic about it
because they're never going to do that.
don't they don't use women to test now
like do you really think they're gonna be
able to get somebody from from each age
group uh all you're paying for is labeling
yourself a games athlete the masters games
is now the same as any other comp
as far as programming goes nothing new or
exciting
uh david johnson i personally know bob and
can attest that they do the best they
can with the resources they have even as
far as spending their own money to make
things happen i know they do and i
know like it
I know, but I also know other things,
and I just can't say those other things.
I think the biggest thing, David,
as far as that's concerned is that we
understand that.
We get that.
I get that, certainly.
We're not asking for a wholesale overhaul.
It's more like, man,
this could be a whole lot better with
just a couple of small things.
And the couple of small things is just
like testing the workouts.
with more than just a person or two
people reach out the community is
ginormous our our very own chat person
Shanna Bunce reached out to them to test
and she got turned down yeah when she
was sitting out the season so um I
think that's the thing that's frustrating
me I know people have reached out to
them to help
And that's where my negativity comes from.
Yeah.
So that's all I can say about that.
That's all I have to say about that.
I did want to,
a couple quick things before we head out
of here today.
I wanted to touch on this.
I have not watched a Buttery Bros video
before.
in a year and a half oh it's
been at least that long for me you
know and my youtube automatically starts
another video when and so i was doing
some things yesterday and they started a
buttery bros video don't even know how it
got in my algorithm but it did and
it was phenomenal yeah you forget you
forget sometimes that like they're really
good filmmakers
They absolutely are.
And what they do, they are fantastic.
So it was a collaboration with HWPO and
Matt Frazier.
And it was a group of people,
a group of men,
going rim to rim to rim of the
Grand Canyon.
So they went south rim to north rim,
north rim back to south rim.
It ends up being about fifty miles.
And they did it all in a day.
Jeez.
And it was really, really well done.
Yeah.
I mean, I think I could probably,
I could probably watch one of those a
month and be good.
Like get my fill of buttery rose stuff.
So there,
there was a lot less like stuff and,
and there was not a single like, uh,
what's that cat scratch thing or yeah,
the litter box litter box.
There was no litter box in this at
all.
It was truly about taking on this huge
task and some of them,
not some of them not making it right.
And it really, it was really good.
Like when they are at their best as
like a documentary filmmaker,
they're pretty damn good.
Their games documentary is outstanding.
I mean, Heber did Fronting Four.
That was one of my favorite documentaries
of all time.
Yep.
It still holds up.
It's still fun to watch,
and I've seen it.
Fifteen times.
But if you have given up on the
Buttery Bros, that one was really,
really good.
I did see at least part of the
one where they climbed the Red Bull...
i didn't see that one it just came
again same type thing it just kind of
came across my feet and it was on
so i started watching it and it looked
okay and then i saw a clip i
guess it was on instagram where matt
fraser was like was saying that marston
did not beat me yeah i so that
so that clip is actually in this the
rim to rim to rim yeah
That makes sense.
They get into a debate at like the
bottom of the Grand Canyon.
And Frazier's like, he did not beat me.
Like it happens in this.
Yeah.
But there's a part where they're coming
up.
He said he joined in on a,
on a three hundred meter race,
but a hundred meters left to go.
And,
and Frazier still does cross the finish
line before Mars.
Yeah, he does.
Um,
but the part that gets really good is
there are people that are ready to quit
and they some of them overcome that and
as they're coming up the south rim they
talk about how like matt o'keefe was done
yeah but you can't be done because you're
on a ledge coming up the grand canyon
and there's nobody coming to get you yeah
you can't just be like
came she's like i guess i'm done i
guess i just i guess i live here
now yeah like there's no choice and i
guess the wind picked up and some of
their headlamps went out as they're coming
up that part it took them i think
carlos it took twenty hours the others did
it a little bit quicker but it was
wild
And the funniest part is there's a part
where there's rumored to be lemonade at
the bottom of the one.
And if they can get there,
they can get lemonade.
And they're all just talking about
lemonade.
And they get there and the lemonade stands
closed.
No lemonade for you.
And so Heber threw down a hundred dollar
bill and says,
will you open up just long enough to
pour some lemonade?
And they got their lemonade.
oh that's funny uh downside of an upside
down hike is you have to work to
get out yeah the hardest part of the
hike is the end it's the end yeah
you're not you're not done when you get
what you
So when we went to Olympic national park
two summers ago,
we did a bunch of the, the hikes,
the hikes that we could bring Jameson on.
Right.
She was six.
So you,
you could like hike to these falls to
see these falls and you're in the woods
and that's beautiful,
but then you got to go back.
You're not,
you're not just like there and okay,
I'm here.
It's like,
you got to turn around and go back.
This rim to rim,
you have to come up out twice.
Because when you go to the north rim,
you have to come all the way out,
then go back down and come in and
go out again.
I just can't see myself going to the
biggest hole in the ground,
not underwater hole in the ground in the
world, and be like,
I think I can walk down to the
bottom, get up to the other side,
and then go back and just come back.
That's not going to be a thing.
What I'm hearing is Clydesdale Crew is
getting a group together to do it.
If that ever happens,
check me into the local psychiatric center
because I have lost my mind.
I tell you what, Winter,
you meet us there and if we're not
there by the time you get ready to
start, just start without us.
We'll catch up.
Don't worry about it.
uh barry you so they're talking about the
expense of the games yeah you mean the
stadium in downtown san jose costs more
than a field in madison wisconsin probably
a little bit more than likely more the
problem is barry they don't lose money at
the games and as long as they were
in madison they did not lose money they
may not have made a ton but they
didn't lose
What happened is they tried to tweak
everything to make it more profitable.
And that's where now they're losing money.
It was said in a press conference at
the games that they actually make money in
Madison.
It's the rest of the season that they
couldn't figure out how to make money.
Right.
that's the problem we gave up on the
thing that we actually made a little bit
of money on to try to get something
bigger and it's gotten worse um anyway i
missed a lot of comments yes they're not
dead there's all kinds of going on there
uh did you see there was a hard
launch
Did I see that there was a hard

I can't even see who that might be.

says she's super happy the left side of
her face she's really sad
no harry lightfoot is a national treasure
and i say that with him being you
know from the uk and us being me
being here in america he's a national
treasure on whatever nation he happens to
be upon love that dude love that dude
peter did uh a behind the scenes of
yeah amy kringle's coach coaching a team
and amy um and harry was there as
like a training partner
There's a scene in that where he talks
to Harry about just missing out on the
games.
And it is really, really good.
It's really, really good, yeah.
The emotional ups and downs that Harry
went through were...
And the fact that he was very open
and honest about it.
i enjoyed that that's part of the reason
why i say he's a national treasure most
you know part of that is he's got
a very quick wit um he's good on
it on his feet you know thinking about
stuff like that but the fact that he
was just he's like yeah man sucked that
i was not okay for a couple of
days and then you know life goes on
continue uh continue moving forward and
whatnot so yeah i thought he did really
really good about the uh kerstetter thing
uh shana was looking for a ring
Meg was,
that's the first thing I looked for.
And Joseph saying, of course,
the women were looking for a ring.
Yo, they're games athletes.
What kind of ring would you expect them
to get?

here's the deal on the game shirts.
First of all, they're not game shirts.

when you promise something and can't

I have been around Scott at a competition.
He does not stay in one place very

Last thing I want to talk about is
last night was one of the greatest events.
I love it every year.
I watch it every year.
It is the Home Run Derby at the
Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Oh, was that last night?
It was on last night,
and it was phenomenal.
And here's why I'm bringing it up.
The finals came down.
Event seven at the games.
What's that?
Event eight at the games.

Home run derby.
Yep.

Surprise, everybody.

So it came down to Kyle Schwarber and
Jordan Walker.
Everybody knows Kyle Schwarber.
He's been around forever.
Big power hitter.
Jordan Walker, young,
first year ever as an All-Star,
doesn't even make a million dollars a
year,
which in Major League Baseball means you
haven't reached much yet, right?
Correct.
Schwarber's up first and hits eleven home
runs out of fifteen swings.
Oh, my God.
Don't spoil it.
Hits eleven home runs out of fifteen
swings.
The young...
young up and comer comes up and gets
off to a slow start now the key
is on the fifteenth swing as long as
you keep hitting home runs you get to
keep going so he has eight with one
swing left hits a home run gets nine
hits another home run gets ten hits
another home run gets eleven
One more pitch, boom, gone.
Young kid wins the home run derby over
the veteran Kyle Schwarber.
And why I bring that up is it
was electric.
It was past my bedtime.
I could not go to sleep.
I was watching every pitch of it because
there was drama.
Fair.
If he swings and misses, it's over.
If he swings and it drops in the
outfield, it's over.
There is no second chance.
That's what I'm talking about sports.
That's what we miss in the season.
And the coolest part of the story is
the kid's salary is like eight hundred
grand a year.
He won a million dollars for winning the
home run derby.
He more than doubled his salary by winning
that.
And not to mention Kyle Schwarber is a
Philly and the all-star game is in Philly.
And so everybody was booing him on every
single home run.
It was so weird to watch because usually
when they hit a home run,
you hear the cheer like, oh,
it must be a home run.
That's how you kind of know.
With this, it was completely opposite.
He'd hit a home run and it was
dead silent.
That's hilarious.
If he popped it up,
then the cheers came up.
That's fantastic.
It was absolutely fantastic because
everything rested on every single swing.
That's amazing.
It was awesome.
It was on Netflix for the first time
ever.
They did a phenomenal job showing it.
It was great.

i didn't uh i knew it was coming
up i didn't realize it was last night
that's how much i wasn't paying attention
to it because i kind of wanted to
at least check it out for a little
bit but i also told my wife yesterday
morning because sunday night i was up
watching that ridiculous murder
documentary and like till late and by late
i mean like ten o'clock before i actually
went to bed
Oh, so I told Jennifer yesterday morning,
I said, FYI,
if I am not in bed by eight
forty five,
remind me that I'm that it's eight forty
five and I am not in bed.
I'm going to do both of those things.
Yeah,
this went to just about ten thirty last
night, my time.
Oh, no.
Well, I've been nine thirty my time.
Yeah.
But I was I was unconscious by the
time that happened.
So.
Yeah,
the city of brotherly love showed this
young kid no love.
Which, to be fair,
that's kind of what they do.
Philly fans are absolutely insane.
That's a fact.

Meg's talking about you can re-watch it.
I have a real problem re-watching stuff
like that.
Sports are hard to rewatch for me.
If I know the outcome, now like CrossFit,
if I know who wins it and I
need to do some kind of analysis or
host a show about it,
I'll go back and rewatch it,
but it's not ideal for me.
No, same.
Same, same, same.
But it was absolutely phenomenal.
So just to sum up today...
Let's bring back the community.
Let's tie in all the games together.
Don't watch ponies.
It's a waste of time.
Terrible idea.
