Full show transcript:
My our
daughter. My our daughter. Yes. We are we are married and we have a daughter.
So we share children together. That is correct. Um we she had a hard lesson to learn over the weekend. She wasn't keeping adequate adequate track of her money and was spending like she had a lot of money.
And then when she looked at her bank account, realized that she had overdrafted. And so I said, It's okay. I'll I'll I'll loan you some money so that your account isn't overdrawn. So I transferred her some money so her account could get back to zero. And she said, Oh, mom, my Spotify account is due on Tuesday, and I'm not gonna have enough money for that. And I, as a mother said, okay, well, I could give her enough money to cover her Spotify account, or I could let this be a teaching moment. And I said, guess what? I'm gonna let this be a teaching moment.
And what was the lesson we learned? If you overspend uh you don't have enough money to pay your bills? Correct. Okay.
So you should keep better track of it. So she said, What am I supposed to do? And I said, Well, you're gonna have to cancel your Spotify account. And she goes, I can't. And I said, You're gonna have to.
Right. And I go, but you can cancel it and then get it back when you get paid again, which is Thursday. I think she gets paid on Thursday. And so she goes, then I'm only gonna cancel it for a couple of days. And I went, that's just the way life works, babe.
If you don't have money in the bank to pay the bills, you got a problem.
So she goes, Well, what if I cancel it and then I lose all of my service? And I said, then that's what happens. And so she quickly Googled, what happens if I cancel my Spotify account? She goes, I'll be cooked if I lose my Spotify account. I don't think she'll be cooked. So she sent me a text about an hour ago and said, My Spotify cancelled. I'm emo now. Oh, it won't play offline. It's making me upset. She'll be okay.
Does she use this like all the time? Or what?
Every day. Here's the thing. I don't even have Spotify. Because here's what we have. Right. We pay for YouTube premium, which includes a YouTube music. Do I like YouTube music?
I do not. Would I prefer Spotify music? Yes, I would. Okay. I'm not paying a separate subscription service. So I get the free one that comes with what we're already.
I understand. And the reason we're paying for YouTube is because we hate ads on YouTube.
You guys do. I don't even mind. I don't even watch YouTube that much.
If you had to watch YouTube with ads, you would be like, no, no, we're not doing this. Okay. It would immediately, you'd be like, we're paying.
The kids separately have chosen to pay for their own Spotify account. So I go, okay, that's your choice. I don't even get to, I don't even pay for Spotify. So the fact that she was like, Will you pay for my Spotify account? No. No. Because I'm already paying for a YouTube account.
That's correct. Which we like. So that's fine. Because we don't have ads. And I like that. But I do have the free Spotify. So it's ads, but I don't use it enough. I don't either. And I think people like it, but I think it's one of those things where it's like people bully you into it. It's the same thing. Like, oh what, you're not on Spotify. I go, no. Yeah.
Wait, they're all the same.
Yeah, but look at my uh look at my recap of the music. I get a recap. I know, and I went, okay. And what big things are. I know. I don't need to know how many hours you listen to your favorite band.
No one cares about you.
It doesn't impact my life. So thanks for sharing information I don't need. You know what I mean? I know what you mean. Yeah. All right.
Well, just a heads up. When you see our daughter, she's emo now because she hasn't been able to listen to her music all day. Oh. I'm so emo. Well, she said, I guess I'll just listen to YouTube music.
Oh, yeah. No kidding. Because you get it for free. Yeah, well, we pay for it. But yeah, you're welcome. All right. Well, here's today's show. Also, available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts. Amazon. YouTube music. YouTube and everywhere else you get podcasts. All right, thanks for listening.
We only have today and tomorrow left in September. Dude. How'd that happen? I don't know. It's insane. I mean, even our 21-year-old son last night says, How is it already October?
I know. Because how is it already October?
It's crazy. It's just crazy. I mean, we we go from uh Christmas to 4th of July back to Christmas so fast. Like it's just wild.
And it was a little bit chilly. Like, I don't think it was a freezing temps, but it was chilly this morning.
Yeah. Did you end up using your seat warmer? Yes. That's because of my back. Oh, okay. Yeah, it's like 40 out there this morning. Uh, which is above freezing. I put on a jacket, even. Oh my gosh. I know. Still wearing it because I was trying to warm up a little bit. But uh, but yeah, uh that was a chilly little morning. So uh anyway, it's uh definitely fall weather.
Uh the pumpkins are turning orange, which is exciting uh in the garden. Um I think it's time to start pulling some stuff. Yeah. Yeah. I want to pull the corn stalks so they have a chance to dry out for you, so you can use those as decor on like the front step.
Thanks. Uh I've got a chop down. I've already taken the sunflower heads off, but I've got to take the the stocks down. Uh put those away so they can dry out. So, you know, there's a few things. There's some stuff to be done.
I gotta I gotta I don't think I'm getting a single tomateo at this point. Oh no, they produced the the little flower uh you know, tons and tons of flowers, and they produce the little like casing for the tomatillos. Yes, but they have nothing that are not grown squeeze. Yeah, that's why they don't grow fruit. That's not true. That's not true.
I was encouraging them. I was giving them love. If anything, they'll grow because I was out there. They're not growing. Oh well. It's not because of me. It's not because of a lack of attention.
All right. Well, I saw lots of bees yesterday still doing their pollination thing, which was fun. Uh they're still trying to harvest for the winter, which is good. But anyway, it's fall. It's it feels fall.
Feels fall. You can drive around town and start to see the leaves changing. It's fall. I know I need to get my fall decorations down. I can't believe I haven't done that yet. Yeah. I gotta get on it. It's fall, y'all. Good morning. All right.
Here is some good news for you. This is about a retired couple in England. Uh, they are Nicole and Gary Wordsworth. And uh they have spent the last 15 years fostering rescue dogs in their home. They have rescued or excuse me, fostered 59 dogs over the past few years, uh, which is pretty incredible.
That's a large number of dogs. And the way this works is whenever the dogs get too stressed out or overwhelmed by kennel life, these guys go, hey, well, let's take them home for a little while. They can stay there anywhere from a couple of nights. Some of them have stayed up to 18 months, uh, just so that they can kind of like relax and not be in a kennel.
Yeah, you know what I mean? Uh, and they've had all different uh uh breeds and shapes and sizes of dogs from a husky that does a happy food dance to a giant American bulldog. Uh, and they say they love helping the nervous pups relax, uncover their unique personalities and find their forever homes. The dogs enjoy their stay, and Nicole and Gary get a lot of like pet experience as well.
Uh was this Gary who said this? Yeah, Gary said uh it's so rewarding to see them relax and find their little personality poking out. Yeah, uh, you're doing a good thing, and you get to have furry friends by your side, and it's a win-win, which I think is great.
I think that's great too. My problem would be that I would have a struggle sending them back. Yeah, I get that. So then I'd have a house full of dogs. 59 dogs. No, thank you. Well, they don't have them all at once. I know.
Uh, but that's pretty fun. And I'm glad that people like that exist in the world. Me too. We need people like that for the animals. So uh anyway, that's some good news.
I've been seeing all these Instagrams and influencers and people who are 45 plus, so it's like a 45 to 50, and they're like, here's my style. Here's my new style at 4550.
Okay. So I've been seeing all these women with these cool style, and I want to change my style. And there's one woman that I particularly love who wears these bandanas.
She's got a cool bandana, and she wears them either around a belt loop or around her neck or around her arm, and it looks so cool. Okay. And so I bought one, a cool one. And I feel like I'm not cool enough to pull it off. Really? Yeah.
Well, let me let me show you a few things. Because here's here's a few things that I think are cool. I like this is the thing you were trying to do.
Yeah. And here's a tutorial on how to do it. It takes two loops, even sometimes to make it look cool. See that? Yeah, I do see that. So uh I think you're cool enough.
I think you just gotta learn how to do it the way you're envisioning it. Because and this is a longer bandana than the one you have. This is almost a scarf.
This is pretty long. Yeah. Uh, but it's a cool look. It is a cool look.
Thank you. I think it's okay. I don't I don't hate the belt loop bandana uh look. I think that's kind of fun.
Kind of flares up your pants a little bit, gives it a little bit of you know, a little bit of movement, a little bit of extra style, a little pop of color. I don't I like that. Yeah, go back up. Go back down. Okay.
What about that one around her neck? Okay, hold on. I'm not I'm not I'm still talking about the pants one. Okay. All right. Now let me drag this one over. This one's a little different. This one's tucked in like kind of like a scarf. And I feel like that's a little tight. So I'm not really super big fan of that. Same with this one. This is a lot.
You said you were not you you moved on to the neck.
No, I I had examples. I had to bring over.
You said you weren't done talking about the pants, man. I know, and now I am.
I had to bring over the the visuals. Okay. So the around the neck bandana feels a little tight. I also, you know, this is cool. I I like that kind of you know, that one doesn't look like it's gonna choke you out. I'm okay with that. That's cool. I think you can pull that off.
You think I'm cool enough? Yeah, but you gotta have that to have that loose. Now here's this.
This is another one you've tried to do. Yeah. Which is the around the wrist with the bandana. Which I think is cool. It's pretty cool.
It's pretty dope, right? Now, I think you've got to do a multiple wrap to get the tails small. Correct. That's important. Right. Because the long tail looks silly. Right. That looks like a big distraction.
I don't care for that one around the ankle. I can do without that. Oh, right here? Yeah. Yeah, that's a little strange, isn't it? Yeah.
Now this is cool. This is this is uh how to tie this one up and have it be loose and then still give you two tails. That's a cute look. Cute, right? Yeah. Yeah, I don't hate that. That's the big scarf. Okay. So I think you can pull it off. Question. Go ahead.
Okay, that's what I was gonna ask. Am I cool enough to do it? But also this, it's not just about the bandana thing either. It's is am I too old to pull off a style change?
No, you can do whatever you want whenever you want.
Or is it gonna look like people are gonna if I show up one day and I've got totally different style, people are gonna go, what? Yeah.
And people are gonna do that. And then like a pose her. Yeah, probably. Now, Anne of all trades who we watch, she does uh wear a bandana around her face because she uh works on like a like she has animals and a whole like farm. And so when she is out like shoveling hay and stuff when all the dust is flying, she wears hers as a tool so she can pull that up over her face and then not have all the dust. But it also looks like a like a cowboy bandana.
It's cool and that's pretty cool. That I watch, she doesn't live on a farm, but she wears her bandana like that too, is like a masky type thing. Yeah, but it looks cool, but she doesn't work on a farm.
What about the Pharrell look? Pharrell wears them. Oh, see? It's cool. Yeah? Yeah. I don't think I'm cool enough. Like, do you think do you think I'm cool enough? To pull off the Pharrell? Like this look. You know, like this is one just kind of tied in a knot.
Oh, on an older gentleman, it looks cool.
That's what I'm saying. Pretty distinguished. Is that a thing? Kind of again, it does the same thing, adds a little bit of pop, but is it too like uh boy scouty?
If you iteres, I I think it depends on the color. Okay. The red looks a little boy scouty for sure. Okay. But you gotta wear the right clothes with it too.
Like the olive with the red is is pretty boy scout. Yeah, I agree.
But I think that gentleman? The older, yeah. Yeah. Like they're the two older gentlemen in these photos that you're showing me. They've got these sweaters on, and they've got like a little baseball cap. Yeah. That look you can pull off. I see.
I don't know if I'm in my bandana phase. It's okay. I am. These guys do it high fashion style. You know, they're really trying a lot. And it's more like an Ascot when they do it. This guy's pretty cash. He's he's got it just kind of like loosely. Oh, see, I like that look. But he's also got like the flat brim 20s hat.
It's a cool look. You could pull that off. Okay. You're cool.
His ankles are at out. You like that? I do like that. Okay.
You used to have a pair of pants where you're in the phone. I still have a pair of pants. I like those pants.
I see. Well, maybe it's time for a new style. Hey. I don't know. We'll have to see. Join me. Join me.
In the new style era. Which is bandana. For now. Oh, what else? There's more.

Fifty feet's pretty high. I'm not scared, I'll do it. Am I attached to something? Yes, you will have yeah, you'll have a safety harness. Yeah. Great.
I can do it. Okay. I volunteer.
Well, it's gonna be fun. It is gonna be fun. Go sign up. KLCE.com or tap the link in our app. A couple of years ago,
I told you that I wanted to get a punching bag. You think it was that long ago? Yeah, yeah.
I think you've been talking about it for quite a while.
I have been talking about it for quite a while, but I think it first came up a couple years ago. And I had talked about it so much, I really thought that I was gonna get one for Christmas. Yeah. And Santa did not deliver. Hold on. What?
Because when you say punching bag, you've got to be clear. What do you mean? Because at one point when you were talking about it, we then got talking about that like torso on a stick so that you could fight that guy. Yeah, oh yeah. Because you thought that would be fun to be able to like actually punch that thing. Yeah, I Yeah, I want that more. And then we talked about like the stand-up punching bag, or did you want like a heavy bag hanging from the ceiling in the garage, Rocky?
It initially was that because I was like, dude, if I take some boxing classes, that would be I took a boxing class once. You did? Yeah.
And it was uh it was an interesting thing. It was a demo that I took. Yeah. Uh with uh he the guy from Shelley who was on Biggest Loser. What's his name? I cannot remember his name. But I took the boxing class from him. And uh, and it was really uh really cool. I remember you did that. Yeah.
You were doing like the ropes, the big ropes.
Oh, yeah. He has doing all kinds of uh like real workout stuff, and then uh actual boxing and uh he had the mitts and we did the whole thing, and he was swiping at us. We had to dodge. It was yeah, it was a whole thing.
Yeah, that'd be cool. It was a lot of learn how to box.
Yeah, you learn the uh patterns. Um, you know, it'd be a right, left, right, duck or whatever. So you would you would learn the patterns and the rhythms, and then you'd pick up the speed. That was kind of it was kind of cool. It was a cool uh cool class.
It would be cool. I think I'd be I could do it. I think I'd be cool.
I think you'd learn how to punch, which would be helpful. That would be great, right? Because even just then, when you were pantomiming punching, it looked like you were gonna hurt yourself. And there's power in those strikes. You just gotta figure out how to harness it.
Initially, I thought it would be cool to have like a bag from the ceiling, but then I saw the torso. Right. And I just really want to fight that. I think that would be awesome.
We have to have that around all the time. Like then we have to have that. Yeah.
You just put it in the backyard. Put a tarp over it.
Put a tarp over it in the backyard.
Yeah. We have this nice backyard. We've got like we're we've built this really, you know, relaxing place to hang out. It's really pretty. And then a torso under a tarp.
He can't put it in the living room. I mean, you could. And you're gonna have to name it. Yeah. So that you can fight it. Right. Right. A different, it'd have a different name every day.
Oh, you could just attach a name to it so you know who you were fighting.
Whoever was making me mad, that's I see. Like, oh, you're gonna get it. Okay. So while I was out shopping over the weekend, I saw a desktop punching bag. Okay. It was six bucks.
Well, yeah, it's probably not worth that because it's got a suction cup base. And it's probably uh the size of your microphone.
Yeah, it was six bucks. And I picked it up. I said, Oh, I'm getting this. And my I'm glad you didn't. My daughter and sister were both like, what? And I sent you a picture. Yeah. And I said, I'm getting this. And then I walked out of the store and I did not get it. Yeah.
And our daughter texted right after you sent the picture and said she didn't.
Yeah, I said I'm getting this.
So I, you know, I was glad you didn't, because I don't think it'd be worth the six bucks. Six bucks, bro. Get a real one. If you're gonna do it and commit to it, get a real one.
No. So, you know, we have the option of like mounting it into the garage in the ceiling or which where? Like there, I know I already have to dance around enough stuff to try to get to where I need to be. Last thing I need is a big ol' heavy punching bag also in the way.
Also, here's something you may not know about me. What is it? I get these crazy ideas, and I go, That sounds that sounds cool. Yeah. And then I get all the stuff, and then I do it a couple of days, and then I go, I'm done.
I feel like if we got the torso dude, we'd put it in your craft room. And here's why. One, you could go down there and fight him.
Two, I could I could style him.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Yeah, yeah. He could be like a like a dress model.
That's right. Yeah, you could use him as a dress model. For when I'm sewing clothes. Which you don't do. No. But you could also just hold your fabric. Hold this, hold this quilt top while I'm working on stuff.
Dude, I would talk to him like him like crazy. I know. I'd be like, what's going on today, bud? I think I'm gonna work on this project. Cool. Guess what else? What else? If you put him in my craft room, every time I'd go in there, I'd forget he was there, and then I'd go, huh. I know. Every time.
Well, I had a little energy after work yesterday, and so I put it to use.
Yeah, I came home and the whole backyard was filled with stuff from the shed.
That's right. Because the uh we talked about it yesterday. I took the air conditioners out. The air conditioners go into the shed at the end of the season. Yes. And uh that's all fine and dandy, but the shed has needed some attention because uh, in addition to putting away the air conditioners, I also wanted to put away the kayaks. I've got some camping gear I needed to put away in there. I wanted to uh make some room for the furniture that will go in there before the snow flies from the patio and the deck and everything. Um, and then I'm trying to find a way to keep my smoker and my grill outside so I can use them in the winter, uh, because I'd really like to do that. Um, and then I I could go on and on and on about how to make the smoker work in the winter.
I need a heated blanket, not a heated blanket. They make an insulation layer for it. You can put it on there, so it's like a little blanket. So when you're smoking meat and stuff, it stays in its toasty little dome. I need Oh really? I'm going to need to need one of those.
But how do you stay toasty warm?
Well, I'm just out there for a little while putting the meat on, and then uh I've got the Wi-Fi hooked up, so I don't have to like go outside to check the tent. Yep, yep, yep, yep. You know what I'm saying? I do.
Yeah, I do. I mean, I want to get it covered and I want to do a whole thing, you know, down the road here, but that's uh that's a pretty cool thing. So anyway, uh as the shed needed to be taken care of. The big project was basically take everything out of the shed, decide what we want to get rid of, what we want to keep, and only put back into the shed what needs to go back.
Right. But I also needed to take out a couple of shelves so that I could put the kayaks away on the wall and a few things. So trying to figure it out, I had an idea about it, but I didn't know for sure like how it was gonna go. And so Emory was helping me. Uh, and so she was helping me clear stuff out. She was not excited about the spiders.
Uh, but that's all right. Did you find quite a few? There were a few. I mean, I don't know, five maybe.
It wasn't like a million or anything. Um, and so you know, we're sweeping up cobwebs and doing that stuff, and um she's kind of a bit of a fashion person. And so when she was getting dirty moving around the the kayaks and the shelves and stuff, she goes, My pants got dirty. I was like, Well, sorry.
Thanks for your help though. Uh but she she got on some gloves. She was uh she was like really getting in there, and mostly she was into like hauling stuff out. She's like, let's just haul stuff out. But she kept blocking the pathway with stuff. She'd like, ah, this will do it and kind of set it in the path. I'm like, you keep blocking my path, dude. Uh and so you know, we made it work.
Uh, we got everything out, swept it, moved a kayak in. I was trying to figure out because I wanted to build like a shelf thing to hold them, and I'm like, if I put them like on their bottom, or if I flip them upside down, they're gonna be too wide. So I kind of need to stand them up, and maybe I could stand them up next to each other and still put a shelf in. And so we were trying to figure it all out. And she was like, What about this?
What about this idea? We finally put one up and and I put it up on the wall, and she's like, that could fall forward. You need like a string or something so that it can't fall. And I went, I think I have a piece of chain. Came back with that chain, put it up.
She's like, that's a great idea. I came up with. I went, You're right.
You're right. She goes, make sure you let everybody know. Chain was my idea. Okay. So yeah, it's it's cool. It's all uh it's all coming back together.
We got a lot of. walk inside the shed. Yeah, it took a lot of hours. You can actually like both doors swung open. Like it's there's a nice big wide area right there. But I'm still sorting some old fishing stuff.
I'm sorting through uh a few other things that are just kind of laying there in the middle that I have to deal with. Uh, but so easy to get the line mower in and out.
Build my car up with stuff we're taking to the donation center.
I gotta load to the dump even. All right, it's awesome. Yeah. Look at us doing the stuff. I know.
We did this to the garage, we did this to the shed.
Well, the garage, uh, here's how we clean the garage. We put everything in the shed. Now, here's how we clean the shed. We put everything in the garage. No. There's a lot of stuff in the garage.
The stuff in the garage is just stuff that we still have to go through. I know.
But there's a stack of bins in front of my other bin rack, and I don't know what's going on with that.
That is stuff that I have to go through. Oh, that makes sense. No, that's stuff that I'm actually gonna sell. Yeah. Like it's donation stuff. I just have to take it to the to be sold store.
Oh not the donation store. You're taking it to like a consignment thing. Correct. Got it. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Chill out. Well, anyway, uh, great progress, but it it completely derailed my night because I really thought I was gonna be able to get it done in you know, three hours, uh, you know, four max. And it took all night.
Like it took until dark. And then finally we're like, we gotta put some stuff away and just go from here. We still have paint to sort out.
We still have a lot of stuff we gotta figure out. But it's okay. Yeah. Baby step it. Mm-hmm. We're doing great. You're doing great. You gotta find a better way to store paint. You know? Yeah. I don't know. I don't know the right way. I don't, I don't know.
I thought you had an idea there. For half a second, I thought you had an idea, and then you went, nah, I don't know.
I thought I might have an idea, but I think
we clean out the paint that's downstairs. That's what I was gonna say. And that's where it can live. That's it. But I need to put like a little small shelf there. That would be the solution. That would be ideal. Yeah. You got it, pal. Okay. We gotta really minimize the amount we have because there's a lot of like half paint cans and stuff that have been there for years.
Yeah, we have a lot of paint. Yeah.
So that's gotta be sorted. We got just a few things, and then this project's done. I'd say about 85% done yesterday. But went till dark, like non-stop. Good job. A lot of work. My body is sore. We killed it. 85%. I found yeah, you did great. I'm impressed. Okay. You found what? Oh, we'll talk about it later coming up. Okay.
Okay. So I put some boxes of clothes into the shed last summer. And some of them had been there for a while. They were clothes that were too small. And I said to you at the time last summer, I said, listen, we're just gonna store these in here for another year. If I can't fit into these by this summer, then we'll get rid of them.
Here's a thing I noticed about the shed. I thought I had pretty good organization of things. Yeah. And as I started to pull things out, I realized how many times you've taken a trip to the shed to shove a box somewhere. There were like six boxes of clothes you had just stuffed in the shed in different places. Get it in where it fits in. Yeah, and then I'm like, why is that on this shelf? Like every time I go to find something, it's no wonder I can't find it. It's been replaced by a box of clothes. Well, guess what? What?
I went through all those clothes. Yeah. There were probably.
Well, no, you didn't go through them. I mean, you went through and then consolidated down to a box of stuff you know you're gonna donate, some stuff that goes to the consignment place, and several boxes that you still have to go through because you want to try things on.
That's not true. Is that correct? There is one box that I kept. My car is full of boxes that I don't know.
No, I know. I'm talking about all the stuff in the garage that's still piled up that you were gonna go through. Yeah.
Yeah. I'm still gonna go through that. Right. Some of that I could still use. Yeah, no, I guess. Including a pair of leather pants.
Now, let's be clear. I don't think those are real leather. No, they're not. Those are pleather leggings. They're not leather pants. Are they shiny black pants? Yes.
I pulled those out and I went, hey. One. Yeah. I'm never gonna wear those. I don't know why I kept them.
One, you've never worn them. One. Two You've never put them on. I've you've you've never worn them. Why did I buy them? Because you were gonna be a cool rock star. For what? For your whole existence. For your vibe. What do you mean? What do you mean for what? You were like, I'm gonna be metal. And I was like, okay.
I did. For your 40th birthday, I did dress up as Slash from Guns N' Roses. That is true. So maybe I bought them then? No. Because you didn't wear them. No, I didn't wear. I think you were wearing jeans.
You gotta try them on at least. I feel like you saw them on the rack and you were like, I could probably pull this off.
I will. That's why I kept them. Oh, good. I said I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna keep these.
Those and a bandana. What a new look. Dude, can you even? Don't do the headband bandana thing. That's not it. No. Um.
What if I, because we talked about my my new style earlier in the show. Right. What if my if my new style is just slash? It just looked like slash from Guns N' Roses. No. Why not?
What do you mean why not? No.
That was a good look.
Top hat, hair in your face. Yeah.
No. Sunglasses inside, outside. You never know where I'm looking. No. Leather jacket. No. Leather jacket, 90 degrees.
What do you think Slash wears like on the regular? You think he's like a no way. He's he kicks back in hey dudes and jorts.
No, that's he that's what he wears to bed.
He wears hey dudes and jorts to bed.
No, he wears his outfit. His whole outfit.
He opens his closet and it's just that outfit. Yeah. No. That is not true. Plus, what's his real name?
What is his real name? Saul Hudson. There it is. I knew that. Did you?
Yeah. Saul wears hey dudes and jorts. And it's gotta be a wig, right?
It has to be. Especially now. It's a hook to the hat. Maybe it's hooked to the hat. Maybe when he was younger, this is real hair, but now that's what I'm saying.
He has complete when he goes saw mode, he has anonymity. He wanders around in his hey dudes and jorts, and he's got a regular dude haircut. His nose ring isn't real. Yeah. He takes it out. And he's like, and he just wanders around.
Dude, if I put on, if I put on those leather pants.
You already have your Halloween costume. That fake nose. And it's not slash.
No, I've already dressed up as slash. I can't do that again. That wasn't for Halloween, though. No, I know. That was for my birthday.
Because of all the things, I was like, you know what I want to see. My wife dressed like Slash. Happy birthday. It was awesome. It was a good party. I'm not gonna lie, but that was a surprise. A lot of pizza, a lot of pizza and slash on the microphone. Happy birthday. Happy birthday.
I'm gonna put on those leather pants and then get myself a top hat.
You don't know, just let's just see where the pants go. If the pants the pants don't make the cut, so be it. Let's not make an identity out of the pants, is what I'm trying to say.
I found in the Great Shed Clean Out. I found a box of old journals.
And much to the delight of our 21-year-old decided to read some of them at the uh kitchen table last night. He was he was hanging around. He was really into like learning about you when you were young.
And you because you pulled out some of your
old Yeah, I found all like all my entire uh radio school, everything from radio school, all of it.
What were some of the key things that you remembered?
I I got an attendance probation. I'm not surprised. I forgot about that, but apparently I went on attendance probation. You don't remember why? Attendance. You gotta show up to class. Why weren't you showing up? I probably was sleeping.
Joshua. Hey, I got better. Yeah. You got married. Yeah. And therefore better. Thanks for bringing me up.
Taking me up tears. Uh yeah, no, there was some cool stuff in there. There was uh, I mean, look, I went to radio school a lot of years ago, and a lot of this industry has changed with the the speed of technology and digital things and automation and so much stuff has uh come into this industry to make things faster and easier and you know, whatever. And so when I was going through, like, and here's how you splice tape and magnetic reel to reels, and how do you dub these things over to cart machines and CD carts and gear, and I had to learn, you know, how to edit music in four four and three, four time. And he's like, Why did you have to know all that stuff? And I said, Because we were doing everything physical, all of the media was physical. You had to cut things with razor blades and tape them together, and you it was a it was a lot of work, and he's like, No way.
Like digital editing was brand new when I was going through school. So uh it was kind of cool. And then I had my whole vocal coaching packet, uh, which was full of commonly mispronounced words and stuff like that. It was kind of fun. There was there was a lot of information in there. I went, man, I should have looked at this a lot of years ago. This is good stuff. All my notes from my uh my personal instruction and
there's like a list of radio bits. I said, Bring that. Yeah, but some of that stuff.
Yeah, there were a lot of different bits because we had to I had to do a show like every uh every week I had to do like two hours in the booth doing a show uh that then got air checked and listened to, and I got notes and it was it was a learning experience. But I found all that. You found your journals, yeah. My journals, and you read some of this stuff, yeah. And at one point you were holding hands with a boy back when this is gross. And you had like a lot of detail in your journal entries, like you were telling stories like it was a book.
I was ready. Here's the thing. I was directed to throw those away. I was like, I don't need this. Like, no one's ever gonna read this. And he, our son was like, you can't throw that away.
Yeah, you can't like these are memories, people.
You're gonna wait, you're gonna want to read that in 20 years when you're old. You're gonna want to remember that. I go, I don't think that I am though. I just don't. And I kept everything. I know.
Like there was You had a whole like early junk journal. It had an airheads wrapper in. Like you've been doing the craft that you like now. You were doing in high school and before that.
There was a rap that I had made up with my friend at a girl's game.
You did read that rap, and boy, was it something. It was awesome. And when you read your rap, you took on a different persona. And I didn't care for that person.
Josh, I have multiple people. Oh, I know I have a lot of multiple personas. Yeah. No, I know. Leather pants, rapper.
What are you today in in this ensemble? This is profesh. Profesh. Nice. Yeah. Nice.
So I don't I don't know what to do with those. I I wanted to throw them away. I don't think I'll need them, but our son had a fit about throwing them away.
He's like, you're gonna you gotta keep this stuff.
But then I go, but you're gonna have to throw it away then. Like it's gonna then, if I don't throw it away now, it's gonna be your problem later. I don't think he minded. I don't either. To be real, it's gonna be our daughter's problem because she is the more responsible one.
I don't know. I mean, when it comes down to like that kind of stuff, I think they'll team up pretty well.
Yeah, they will. I don't, I don't know. Should I keep them? It's up to you.
You got a tote out in the uh shed for all your mementos. Yeah, I can throw them in there. You can keep it in there. How full is your bin? It's pretty full. Mine is not.
Yours isn't. Can I put some of my stuff in your bin? No. My bin has like things that the kids made me for Mother's Day.
Yeah, I have stuff like Father's Day cards in there. cards. Yeah. Old yearbooks. I have yearbooks. I have my like my diplomas in there. My baby blanket is in there.
Yeah, same. Like I've got a few things in there. I've got more stuff I could move out of like my studio into that space. I've kept which would be good.
Well, the kids have like bins too. They each have their own bins, and I have like baby books and stuff in there, and their bins are pretty full. But now I'm thinking maybe I want those baby books out of there. Because they're cute, and maybe I just want to display them because they're cute.
You having a problem with them not being babies right now? No. It sounds like you're having a problem with them not being babies right now. I feel like you're you're longing for the when they were babies. No. Kind of. Yeah, no, kidding. See what cleaning the shed does. Turns into a mess.
Brings up too many memories. Yeah. Too much nostalgia. These are memories, people.
You want to talk about Kirk Daniel Cousins.
Is that his middle name? Yes. Of course it is.
Oh, So Kirk Daniel Cousins. By the way, his birthday is August 19th. He's only 38. He was born in 1988. He's a baby. He is a baby.
He's so cute. He's just the nicest dude in football right now.
He is uh he's the quarterback for the uh Las Vegas Raiders.
He used to be the quarterback for the Vikings.
That's right. And then he went to Atlanta. Sad and now he's in in Vegas. Sad he's gone. Uh, but man, is he uh turning that team into quite the different uh attitude. I think the Raiders for a long time, and I don't think they're like lacking anything here. Let me be clear that like being uh a little bit softer and being a stronger team and Kirk really bringing that to them, uh, is making them any less of a team. I think it's making them a much stronger team. So too. Uh and it's cool, like, because he'll lead, he's the team captain.
He's the quarterback, and so he brings them all together before the game, and he's really the hype man, and he's like, listen, every single one of you in this room right now on this field has a gift, and you need to bring that gift today. And it's very powerful, it's very cool.
It's cute. He's just nice. He took them to the in and out to celebrate their three and oh.
Well, not everybody. He only takes a few people on his in and out trips. I don't think he took the whole team.
Well, he didn't take the whole team. No, but he has a he has a crew. He he just is the nicest guy. He is the reason I started watching football.
You are correct. He was on an episode, a season of quarterback on Netflix, and he is just such a normal, nice dude. He gets his haircut at great clips. He shops at Coles. Yes, he does.
He's just like he spent his first paycheck on a used Toyota.
Max Crosby, like one of the most intense players in NFL was like, dude, would you spend your first paycheck on? He was like, uh use Toyota Corolla.
Yeah, what about you? Cross like I got a Rolex. And I had it on my person before I took my first uh, you know, play before the first football snap. Uh here's something interesting that I heard people talking about. So uh some people are hypo like kind of hypothesizing that this might be or theorizing that this might be his last season. Yeah, I know because he's an older guy as far as football is concerned, so they're thinking he may be close to retirement. He is playing really well.
I know he is. He passed for 248 yards against the Saints. Like he's really playing well. He is one of the only quarterbacks to have three touchdowns in the first three games. He has three touchdowns in the first three in each of the first three games. That doesn't happen. Like three passing touchdowns. He's unreal. He's really playing well.
I'm really hoping. Here's what I'm hoping. And Beck, my football boy. Yes. Says that this is not going to happen. It's not gonna happen, Mom. It's not gonna happen. But I really am I'm hoping for a Raiders Vikings Super Bowl. It could be something. Wouldn't that be dope?
It would be fun. Uh here's the other thing. The Raiders are currently three and oh. They're three and oh, along with your Vikings, three and oh, uh, and a couple of other teams as well. The Bills. Um we like the Bills, yeah. And the Chiefs are in there too. I'm just telling you, there's a few other teams.
That's only because the refs favor them. Okay, whatever.
That's fine. Uh whatever. Um but they're the they have like a very powerful drafted quarterback that is sitting there as QB two in uh Mendoza, and uh Fernando Mendoza was like first round draft pick, like first guy out the gate that the Raiders took. And he's a he's a very good quarterback, and he's uh kind of shadowing with Kirk, and they're very supportive of one another, which is really cool to watch on the sideline, and um, and I think it's a he's being a really strong mentor, which is great, but he's playing so well. It's like is Fernando Mendoza ever gonna take a snap because Kirk is doing so well, uh, which is great news. Like that's that's a good problem to have. You have Kirk who's doing really well for your team, and you have a solid, solid QB2 who's right there waiting uh to to fill in if something happens or if Kirk needs to catch his breath or something. It's it's really cool.
Kirky Cousins, he's just the best. He's just the nicest, he's the nicest boy in football.
Did you ever get uh a message back from his wife Julie? You did message her when he was still on the Vikings just to say, hey, love you guys so much.
It's so stupid that I didn't know. It's not stupid, it's adorable.
I just wish she would have written you back.
That would have been a good one. No, that would have been so cool, huh?
Yeah, you should try reaching out again.
Oh, I don't know about it.
Say, hey, if you ever come up this way, what if we could just like take him to take him to Yellowstone, you know?
One time reach out, it's fine. Two is success.
That is like stock status. Yeah, it's been a couple of years. It's fine. It isn't like you're reaching out every day.
No, I know. I'm it's okay. It's all right.
If this ever gets back to Julian Kirk, listen. You're welcome to come to a barbecue. We'll take you and the family to Yellowstone. We'll go hang out for the Coles today here in Iowa.
We do have a Coles. We got a Coles. We don't have an In and Out, but But we have great clips. We do. You can get your hair cut, do a little shopping, hit up the Tetons. We're happy to show you around.
You know how I think one of the things that sold me on them was you know how like all the players, as they're walking into their game, they're all dressed to the nines. Sure. And some of them wear like the most ridiculous outfits. Right. Like Travis Kelsey. Right.
Like, oh, we're in my high fashion. Are we doing? Yeah.
But when he, when Kirk Husins would go to his games, his wife would dress him and it would be like polos. Yeah. Some khakis. He looks good. I know he's cute. He's just wholesome. I think that's why I like him the most. He's just the nicest boy in football.
The nicest boy in football. Okay. Yep. And if he's the nicest boy, you know who's the not nicest.
Hey, but listen, we don't need to talk about not nicest boys. But uh he's also working with BSU uh great Ashton Jenny. That's right. Uh, right there. And that's uh that's an awesome thing, too, to see those two kind of working together. So anyway. Well done. Uh to Kirk. He's he's really doing well this year.
I used to let so the Vikings are my number one team, and then the Ravens were my number two, but I feel like the Raiders are sneaking in on you. Yep.
Because of Kirk and Jante. Yeah, I really like that. All right. Mashup. It's a good one. Okay. Anything else you want to say about Kirby? I think that's about it. All right. Thanks for sharing your love for Kirk Cousins again. Fat Bear Week. It's been going on for a while.
It's been going on for like a couple of weeks. Uh we're finally down to the finals. Are we already? Yeah. I guess it kicked off uh September 22nd, and today is the final. So it's been going for seven days.
If you Google timeout, yeah. If you Google Fat Bear Week 2026, you can feed the bear fish. Oh, that's cool. Yeah.
Oh, on Google, they have like a little interactive thing. Yeah. If you go to explore.org, that is where you're gonna go to vote. Uh, but we're down to the finals. The two bears left are 130, or excuse me, 910 and 89.
Okay. Uh are the two bears left. Uh Bear number 910, uh, which is just a number, and bear 89, nicknamed a backpack. And bear 89 has a backpack.
Does he? I mean, like it's uh quite the large backpack. Bear 89. Here we go. Yeah. Bear 89 backpack is uh is a bit of a big piece of beast. Yeah.
Holy. Yeah, so that's the finals. We're down to 910 versus 89, and the vinyl voting is happening today, starting at 10 o'clock uh this morning, and you can vote between 10 a.m. and uh what time does it end?
Uh I know the answer to this. Uh 4 p.m. So you have between 10 a.m. and uh 6 p.m. Pacific. Oh, so you have until seven.
So 10 to 7 today. You can log on to explore.org and you can vote for your favorite fat bear. And then one of these two bears will be crowned King Fat Bear of the Week for 2026. Uh, which is cool.
I love that these bears are just out here living their life, and there's people here talking about 'em, thinking about 'em. Yep. Tracking them. Yep. Seeing, go, buddy, go.
89 backpack has a large backpack. That's an impressive bear. Uh pretty cool. Anyway, uh, I just wanted you to know we were down to the finals, and that's happening today. If you want to get uh, you know, in on the action. If you've been waiting to get down to the finals and you haven't voted yet, I'm gonna go vote. Explore.org at
10 a.m. You can vote between Bear 910, who by the way is a big bear on his own. Bear 910 is big. Okay. Bear 89 backpack, I think, is bigger.
This okay, hold on. This isn't matter. Go ahead. Okay. Bear, What's the other bear?
910. 910. 910. No, what's his name? 910. No, the other guy's named Backpack. Backpack. What's this guy's name? 910.
No, he's gotta have something cool. Nope. Bear 910. That's dumb. He needs a cool name. Ooh, Bear 910 is a female. Oh for 910. Okay, that's fine.
That's just fine. Uh 90 is a big bear. We're down to the final two. Uh 89 backpack versus 910.
Bear 910 can be seen flipping and tilting her head, a gesture that makes her easy to spot on the bear cams. Okay. She is a show-off.
Uh, bear 910, known by her number rather than a nickname, was born a decade after backpack. Okay. Uh, so there's a little bit uh uh more information.
Oh, she also made history by adopting her sister's cub. Oh, that's adorable. Yeah. Uh oh, nine ten.
Yeah, the picture of 910 is a bear cub. Pretty cute. I also pretty cute bear cub.
I like that she's the chubbiest bear. Okay.
Well, you can vote at 10 for 910 or 89 backpack. No, 910. I got you, girl. I see you. Okay. Voting opens very soon. Would you rather this or that?
Would you rather only be able to drink milk at every meal or only be able to drink orange juice at every meal? Milk. Milk. Yeah. Okay.
Yep. I mean, if you would have picked a different juice, like if you would have said apple juice, I'd pick apple juice. Well, I wanted something equally gross. Well, why is milk gross?
I don't think, excuse me. I don't think milk is gross. I just think it's the same as orange juice, where I feel like there's a time and a place for each of those.
You feel like there's a time and a place for milk? Yeah. And that's only in your cereal. Yeah.
When was last time? Or with an ore?
I haven't had a glass of cool. Especially with a milk. long time. A long time.
Where you're like, yeah, I'm going to go to the
phone. But I'm also I'm not going to have like steak and potatoes with a cup of orange juice. I wouldn't do a glass of milk. Yeah, see? I just a nice cold glass of milk.
Here's your sandwich, your tuna fish sandwich with a glass of milk. Yes.
You used to drink Kool-Aid with it and dip it in it.
I was gross. Seven years old. That's gross. It was delicious. No. No. No, it is not. You know what?
You know what sounds disgusting? Dipping a white bread tuna fish sandwich into Kool-Aid and then eating it. Hey, hey, hey. Go roast.
I was seven years old, possibly younger.
It's a good thing you didn't lead into our relationship with that. It might not have ended so well. Like, I can't. This girl puts tuna fish in Kool-Aid. No. She
lives dangerously. That's not dangerous. It's disgust. All that soft bread pink with the Kool-Aid. Oh yuck. And you're
over here going like milk's weird. No. No, it's not. Milk's fine. Orange juice for every meal. Strange. Plus, you'd sneak pulp in there. I just know it. Me? Yeah. To you? Yeah. Yeah, because you hate pulp. Hate pulp. Yeah.
You don't like to chew your orange.
I don't like to chew my liquids. Not a big fan of chewy liquids. So I'm going milk.
I think I'm gonna go milk too. Yeah. But it has to smarter pick. It has to be a lot.
Like maybe well, I don't mean a lot. Like 16 ounces. That's fine.
At least. Why at least? There's a lot of milk. You're gonna get full really fast.
No, because I'm not gonna drink it till I've eaten my food. Have you ever watched me eat?
No, because you do it so quickly. I don't understand.
You should you should try to keep up with me. I have. Yeah, you can't take big enough bites. I can't. That's your problem. Your problem is you can't take the big enough bite.
You can't take a big enough bite and you bite, and then before you're even done chewing that bite, you take another bite, and I go, I don't even have room. You should have chewed faster. They have those videos where it's the the wife trying to keep up with the husband's eating.
And they have the inverse, and I'd be starved to death. Like, when are you taking another bite? Because I finished my bite a month ago.
Well, the problem with those videos is I thought they were cute initially, but then it became like a I don't know, it was staged a little bit where it was like the man was eating so fast, and then the woman was eating so slow, and she was like, mmm, waving around her French fries. And I was like, this isn't real. So we'd have to do it if we did it, it would have to be real.
It would It would be real if you were talking to someone in the room, a friend, your sister, somebody. You would you will take a bite and then talk through the bite and then put some other food on a fork and then you'll talk with it on your fork, and then you'll take a bite and continue to talk with it in your mouth. And I go like, just chew your food. Stop stop talking for a minute and eat. So it's not that far-fetched. But anyway, I'm taking milk. Okay, I'm gonna take milk too. Would you rather this or that?
We are getting a raising canes. That's true. And our daughter cannot stop talking about it because she loves raising canes so much. Yeah. And when we were, she was hoping for birthday canes, but it didn't happen because they weren't ready in time. So no birthday canes for her.
That is all true. Okay. I'm just listening. I'm letting you tell your story.
Want to make sure you're here listening. I am got quiet. Nothing to say. Go ahead. Okay. When we were in Logan, we were trying to decide what to eat for dinner over the weekend. And she said, What about canes? And I said, Ah, because canes isn't my favorite thing. I in fact, I it's it's less than my favorite thing. Okay. I will never, I'll never choose to eat there. It's good.
And I said, what if we tried something else? And she said, What about this place? And I said, Oh, we have that in Idaho Falls. Let's choose
a place that we don't have. Okay. And I said, Oh, they have a Dave's hot chicken, which we're also going to get in Idaho Falls. Okay, great. I said, let's try a day's hot chicken.
Because you you have not had Dave's hot chicken before. I have not. Okay.
Now, I'll tell you what I found that I liked about Dave's Hot Chicken was that they had cauliflower.
Which you prefer to chicken. Correct. So if canes had a cauliflower, you might be.
You decide any kind of other option. They have nothing. They have a chicken sandwich or chicken tenders. End of options. Got it. And our son would argue that that's what makes it good. That is. Because they're good at one thing. That is correct. And that's the thing they're good at. You got it.
I'm looking at the at the menu here. They have a mac and cheese loaded slider. Yeah. They have uh different levels of spice, one that requires a waiver. Okay. I got a sneeze. There you go. Okay. That's not just gonna be one. I'm gonna try for one. Okay. Uh they also do shakes, it looks like. So they do a little bit of different stuff. And you uh you got cauliflower. I got the top-loaded cauliflower fries.
Okay. I actually ordered the top-loaded macaroni and cheese. Uh-huh. But they didn't give me that. They gave me fries instead. Okay. It was okay. It was good. Now, what I also found was that you can put they give you honey, they ask if you want honey, and you can put your honey on your. And that was tasty. Okay. I enjoyed that.
So what do you what are you saying?
Comparatively, I'm saying if I were to choose between Dave's Hot Chicken and Raising Canes, I'll pick Dave's Hot Chicken every time. Is that right? Yes. Interesting. Yeah. There you go. That's my hot take. That's my hot chicken.
It's my hot chicken take. I I feel like they're different. They are different. I like I don't feel like they're totally comparable. They're not. Like, yes, they're both chicken, but I don't feel like they're uh I feel like they're two different categories. Okay. What categories?
Well one has chicken, one has chicken.
Yeah, but then that's where they differentiate is immediately after that. What they do with the chicken is different. Because what Canes is doing is is chicken tenders with sauce and fries and toast and slaw if you want it. They had
slack basic. It's just that's it. You're getting you're getting the tenders of sauce, the fries, the bread, slaw if you want it. Like that's it. Like it's and it's consistent and it's also Dave's and it's simple and it's good.
Dave's had chicken had mozzarella sticks.
I'm looking at that. We got some of those. of those. And I feel like Dave's was like, Okay, chicken's good. What can we do to it? And they just do stuff to the chicken. Put mac and cheese on it, put a sauce on it, put uh a pile of it on fries. Like they do a gooey chicken sandwich. They've got tenders, but they they also do other things, like this mozzarella thing you're talking about. It was good. The mozzarella sticks were good. Did you try it?
Yeah, because Emory loves mozzarella sticks. And she had asked for that for her birthday. We forgot. So I was like, let's get some mozzarella.
20 of the mozzarella planks for $55 in a box. We didn't get that. That's 20 of them.
It did come on the mozzarella sticks, came on a piece of white bread. Oh, yeah. It wasn't toasted or anything. It was just a piece of it. I see it sitting there. What's that about? I don't understand the point of that. You could have just saved that bread. Me neither. It seemed wasteful.
I feel like we're comparable in price. Looking at it, I feel like they're they're very similar priced. Um Okay.
I like that there were more options. That's my big thing. Yeah. Because even if canes did like a salad with like small pieces of chicken cut up, I'd be like, okay, I could get behind this. But they have chicken tenders and chicken sandwich. End of options. I understand.
And then Dave's has what they call Dave's not chicken. That's which is the cauliflower. And I like that. And they do they do that in tenders. They do that on a slider. Yeah. They do that uh on a single piece of white bread. I don't know.
What's the point in that?
They do the bites. And then you said you got the top-loaded fries. I see that. Yeah, it was good. Okay. I liked it. It looks nice.
So that's my hot take. If I'm gonna choose between the two,
I'm you got the top loaded fries. You thought you got the top loaded buffalo collie mac. You thought it was supposed to have mac and cheese on it. That's what I ordered. You did order the top-loaded spicy buffalo collie mac. Yep. But you got the fries top loaded fries instead. Correct. And you didn't tell them? No.
I didn't want to. Well, because there's a different story involved that I don't want to get into right now. Oh. Okay.
