HEATSOAKED is a Florida-based car culture podcast hosted by Cris and KT - two 30-something year old car nuts who live the stories they talk about. What started as two friends having late-night conversation about dream builds, blown budgets, and heat soaked engines turned into a platform for the culture that raised them.
This isn't about perfect cars or polished influencer content. It's about the grind behind the build. Cris and KT bring real conversations about the 90s and 2000s era tuner scene, passion-built machines, and the culture that keeps them alive. Every episode dives into the journey of a typical gearhead; including the victories, mistakes, lessons learned, and the passion that keeps the culture moving.
HEATSOAKED - because nobody remembers the cool nights.
Cris (00:03)
Man I think we had a question we asked earlier. First of all welcome back to Heat Soaked. We're just having fun over here. It's two guys arguing in good faith today. I promise. KT, how's it been man? Good to see you.
KT (00:16)
It's good.
It's a little chilly today, but we're surviving.
Cris (00:19)
For all the guys that are in Florida right now, it's colder than all get out right now. There was ice on the floor and I actually had to run the pipes for the first time in 30 years. So it's been great. Down in central Florida.
KT (00:33)
Yeah, we're here in a non-heated garage, but we're here for you guys.
Cris (00:38)
Yes, non heated. My balls are stuck to the chair. That's why I can't move. So if you see some awkwardness, that's exactly why. ⁓ Man. So today we're doing something fun. I think if you guys want to tell them, we're actually going to see what actually makes the perfect car for each of our personalities. That's going to be something fun. doing, we're actually going to use chat DPT today. Yeah. So chat as well as everyone likes to call them is going to help us out.
KT (00:55)
Yeah, for sure.
Cris (01:05)
And we're just going to be kind of bouncing back and forth. I think the best way to do this, man, is ask yourself this, right? If you're sitting down, do you have an unlimited budget? ⁓ You, you know, had anything you wanted to do. Let's say if you had to build the perfect car, perfect car for you. Horsepower, you can talk about lap times. What actually matters there in this, right? And let's, let's just go down the list.
KT (01:32)
We're going to see. Yeah, let's get into the different elements and ultimately what's the perfect car for us.
Cris (01:38)
man, that's you know, I think that's to be determined at the end of this man. So I think ⁓
KT (01:45)
This is gonna be fun. This is gonna be a very interesting exercise. We're gonna go back and forth. We're gonna pick out certain elements about our perfect cars. And at the very end, we're all gonna compile all this information, put it into AI, and let it tell us what car we should get.
Cris (02:02)
Let's do it man. So let's start off with I think what we're looking at. Do you want a four door? Do you want a coupe? Do you want a truck? An SUV? ⁓ What do you want man? What's the first thing you're going for? Or does room matter and do you want to start the skeleton?
KT (02:24)
For me, so I love sedans, love hatchbacks, but I for this exercise I want to go with a coupe. I want a two-door car for this one. ⁓ part of it is the function of the car. So for me, this is going to be your weekend warrior, your every now and then track day sort of car. I don't need a daily driver. I don't need space. This is going to be the fun car. So what about you?
Cris (02:35)
Gotcha.
Man, I think I agree with you. I think it's definitely gonna be a sedan or a coupe. I'm okay with sedans. Sedans come in a little more options, but I actually do like the coupe look, man. They're tighter. So I'll stick with coupe today. And I'll go from there. ⁓
KT (03:09)
So let's talk about engine, let's talk about power. Well, give it to me. What do you want? Engine-wise, power-wise, whatever.
Cris (03:18)
So it's gotta be something, right? Cause we're not talking about horsepower. So let's go ahead and exit out of here. I can do anything with a V8, right? Or let's stick with, if I can't choose two, let's stick with a V6 turbo. Okay, what about you?
KT (03:32)
V6 turbo.
Well, before we jump to me, what are you thinking power wise? What's the function of this car for you?
Cris (03:43)
⁓ man, let's see. Power wise, I think the function is just to spend some time, man. I want to be able to be at the light. Some kid pulls up beside me and I just stomp him in the middle of the ground, know, blasting to T.I. and jam into it like we used to.
KT (04:05)
It's a fun street car.
Cris (04:07)
Yeah, fun streetcar. I think that's the route I'm going right now so far. So far.
KT (04:12)
Okay, and power? Do you have any ideas? Horsepower? Torque? You don't have to be exact.
Cris (04:16)
Okay, we're talking about horsepower.
⁓ Let's talk. Is this with add-ons or without?
KT (04:25)
That's a good one. Let's just give it a range, because you know with add-ons we can probably boost it a little bit.
Cris (04:31)
Okay, that's true. let's do, ⁓ I'd say anywhere between like four to six hundred. Something. What about you? What about you? You're you're already got, got it. want to coop, you know, what are we doing with that?
KT (04:39)
600?
So for me, think I want to go turbo, okay? ⁓
Cris (04:56)
but I thought we were getting to the add-ons a little bit later.
KT (04:59)
It could be factory turbo.
Cris (05:01)
Okay, so you're do factory turbo ⁓
KT (05:04)
I
do like a nice six cylinder. ⁓ It's either a straight six or a V6. I think I'm going to go with a straight six. A straight six.
Cris (05:12)
You're going to do a straight six.
Straight six six straight
six factory turboed. We're out of coop. All right. ⁓
KT (05:23)
Herbo
I ⁓ wanted to be dedicated ⁓ as a kind of like a weekend warrior track type car a little above a street car so we'll get into it but performance wise it's going to need some other things but if we're talking engine for now talking straight-six turbo ideally
probably in the range of ⁓ the three hundred ish horsepower being more is better but i'd say route three hundred is probably my minimum at least so that all three hundred
Cris (06:01)
you're like 300 or 400, that's where you're at. Okay, three to five hundred horsepower, that's a pretty, you know, I think that's a general topic that you can use, right? That's three to 500, that's, you know, it's not me.
KT (06:03)
somewhere between 3 to 5 maybe.
I to be a lightweight car too. if we're going, I want to try to keep it around the 2800 to maybe 3200 pound range, 3300 pound range.
Cris (06:30)
Okay,
okay, I don't okay, so you want 32 to like 3800 that's what you're right
KT (06:35)
32 28 to 33
Cris (06:40)
to 3300. Yeah. Okay. So I think I'm on the same range. I'd like something around. I would say let's start wild. Like I don't mind if it's a little heavier. So let's do like, like 29 to like 42 is a little too heavy. So let's do 29 to like 38. So I'm okay with a little bit wide range. Yeah. It's a big, it's a big, uh, yes.
KT (07:01)
It's a big range.
I like the lightweight aspect. Nowadays, everything's getting heavier and heavier. And you add the fact in because it's safety-related features. we're not even talking about hybrids or EVs, but those guys are massive, like 4,000 pound cars. I think just having that lighter weight makes it a little more nimble, a little more fun. You can honestly keep the power down and still have fun, but obviously with your 600 horsepower
nine hundred-pound car that things gonna be ridiculous
Cris (07:32)
Alright,
so let me ask you this, right? So how are you going to take corners in this car if you're at that weight, right? Well, are you like, perfect line, smooth as silk, all the way through, braking, all about precision? Are you drifted a little? Give it a little flare? Are you like, you going to slam on the brakes and stomp on the gas? Or are going to straight through that corner like a...
KT (07:38)
Okay.
I'm a technical guy so I'm more of like the circuit racer finding that perfect line
Cris (07:59)
Perfect
line. Okay. Okay about you. I think I'm a drifted a little ⁓ Every time I get a chance to turn a car sideways, it's the best best feeling in the world. I think pulling in a ⁓ Brake and just being able to turn a car is nothing like dropping a gear high rev. There's nothing better feeling than that to me It's just the best way I want to do it
KT (08:04)
the sideways
So that's your style. So if we're talking about your style drifting through turns, ⁓ suspension, what do you got there? Before we get to it, we didn't even touch on it, but drivetrain layout.
Cris (08:31)
⁓ man, I think
Oh man, come on man. We already know what you're talking about. Manual. I don't want anything paddle shifter. yeah, manual rear wheel drive. Like that's my drivetrain, you know? What about you? Are you... Actually, you know what? I'm okay with rear wheel or all wheel drive. But I know I can't drift a little if I'm doing all wheel drive. Unless I do changes in like, you know...
KT (08:41)
Rear wheel drive
Cris (09:01)
We're looking at like control, braking on the back end, front end, know, adjustments, know, just little things. But I think mine's just take it out the all wheel drive. Although I'm okay with it, I think I'm just going to stick with it. What you? What are you doing?
KT (09:16)
So ⁓ actually I would not mind having an automatic but like a maybe like a DCT. Okay. quick shifting. ⁓ Now I would probably prefer a manual but you can put me down for like an I don't mind. Definitely have to have like paddle shifters or something.
Cris (09:34)
Yeah, automatic DCT or transmission, know, you can do or manual. Yeah, or something like that.
KT (09:41)
But for sure, rear wheel drive only though. don't need front or all wheel.
Cris (09:46)
Rear wheel drive only. I like that. I like that. That's the way to do it. So let me ask you this. You're taking your coupe out for a spin. What's your priorities? Are they on handling, precision, power, acceleration, interior, luxury?
KT (10:02)
I think for me it's going to be precision handling. We all love power, right? We all love the sensation of going fast, making loud noises. But from my was a Miata guy. I had an S2000. I had a GR86. I had similar cars. And that's what I like. So I'm interested to see what cars they recommend. And it might be the same cars I just listed off, but.
I like that lightweight, I like that nimble, ability.
Cris (10:33)
Gotcha, gotcha. think I just grew up driving different things, right? So I drove, you know, of course the Honda Accord, I've driven the Civics, I had an F-150, I had a Tacoma, you I've had all the other things. So like I said earlier, but like, so for me, it's like, I think...
I want a little bit of mix. I want that precision in handling, right? ⁓ But I do want something that is power acceleration. I don't care about attention. I don't care if it looks bad, but if it feels good when I drive it, that's all I really care about. I don't care about luxury. I could put a VHS tape with a wire on it and connect it to my phone and just blast crap.
the crappy sound of music and I'm fine. That's kind of my style.
KT (11:26)
really
do value the driving experience. I can tell it's sliding around.
Cris (11:30)
Yeah man, there's nothing like, I want my control to be, the only thing I need control on is my steering and of course my three pedals and my switch man, that's it. yeah. So okay, I got that going for you. So you're handling precision, we got that going. So okay, we talked about transmission, we talked about weight, we talked about drivetrain, we talked about your priorities.
right, they're gonna be in. What other things, because I'm locking in a couple cars right now that I'm thinking about already. So what other things are important to you when you're building this dream car? When chat's building us these dream cars, I guess you'd say.
KT (12:14)
So from a suspension standpoint, I really like the ability to tune and adjust my suspension, know, fine tune and adjust it. you be nice to have double wishbone suspension all around. think modern cars don't really do that. There's a lot of multi-link suspensions, which provides a lot of adjustability, but it is more complex system.
i don't know if chats gonna be smart enough to know this but i think between you and me be both like our cars to be reliable but correct to the point where you know if it's too reliable or not gonna have fun wrenching on that never gonna break
Cris (12:50)
if you can't adjust it. I don't mind an independent suspension. I think that's my choice. If you're just a double wishbone, I'm okay with double link or independent. ⁓ I think that just gives everything what I need except for, know, of course we're gonna make all of our adjustments to the rear axle and move everything right there, but I'll add that double wishbone for you as we're building that car. All right, what kind of tech do you want in it?
KT (13:14)
man. ⁓
Cris (13:15)
Yeah,
there we go
KT (13:18)
I don't know if I really need tech. Now, that's gonna cut out a lot of cars and this is why this exercise is gonna be so interesting. But, you know, the visceral feel of just having to control everything yourself and whatever mistake you make, that's on you.
Cris (13:26)
Yeah. Okay. ⁓
Yeah, you have to realize it's like looking into a mirror with every motion and every movement you make. It's insane.
KT (13:44)
All cars nowadays come with ABS, come with traction control, stability control, all of that. We turn it all ideally it wouldn't be there in the first place, right?
Cris (13:56)
Well, so you said you're a weekend warrior, right? So this is going to be like that track type. you're not always going to be like calm, collected, always efficient with it, right? You're going to be occasionally wild. Exactly. It's like trying to put it in a kitten's cage. It's basically what you're trying to do.
KT (14:08)
Wrangling a tiger ⁓
But
that's the point. It's supposed to be a fun car. If this was a daily driver, a comfortable car that I could go to work with every single day, the priorities will be different. But for what we're talking about right now, I don't need any of that stuff.
Cris (14:27)
But
Gotcha. Yeah.
See, for me, dude, chaos is a feature. I got to have. So the only thing I ever needed in the car. Right. Just tell me what speed I'm going. Tell me what RPM I'm at. Tell me if my cars are reading. Okay. I've learned the hard way when it doesn't tell me. Right. ⁓ So let's do the only tech I need is a Bluetooth radio.
KT (14:55)
Bluetooth radio. ⁓
Cris (14:56)
be
the thinnest thing, but that's the only tech I need. I don't need any electronic stability control. I don't need any of that. These are things that are nice, but we're building these weekend warrior cars. And honestly, if I have my independent suspension, if I have my BC coilover kit, I'm going to add that on there. BC kit, if I want my suspension because I want something fully adjustable, I'll spend the money on their full kits.
and I'll make sure to get something that I can drive to go get some food and then maybe on the way back take the long way home, meaning the back road so I can do some twisties and turkeys, you know what Yeah, for sure. That's kind of what it's for, you know? So that would be exactly what I'm looking at with, for sure.
KT (15:45)
Now, these two cars that we've just built, I think we're kind of along the same lines,
Cris (15:52)
I
know. So I got a question. Let's do another car. Yes. Let's build something else because I think I want to go. This is our so this is our weekend warrior track car. Let's do something a little bit crazier. We can do anything you want. We're not going to strip this. We're not going to do anything crazy. There's no point. Let's actually do a second car. And my question is because we're so similar we're probably going to end up with the same ones. So that's our that's our that's our first one. Let's do our second one. Let's come out of the gate. Let's just
come up with something crazy. I'll let you go first. then, cause I want a little first.
KT (16:26)
Yeah, yeah, I'll just dump a couple things out there. So I want a hatchback. ⁓ I love a nice hatchback
Cris (16:34)
Alright, fine. You got it, dude. Nice. Alright, so you want a hatchback? Go for it.
KT (16:36)
That's space.
Okay,
so I'm gonna go with a V8 this time.
Cris (16:45)
You want a Hatchback V8? I don't even think they make those. think Jeff's gonna tell us. Hatchback V8? Alright, keep going. ⁓
KT (16:47)
Let's see ⁓
Rear or all-wheel drive, doesn't matter, either one. And I think I'm kind of going down the daily driver route now, so I want a manual transmission. This thing's going to be super comfortable, so it has to have that luxurious interior. I want leather seats. I want CarPlay, Android Auto.
Cris (17:14)
Okay, Android Auto, got it. Alright, so I got all that.
KT (17:18)
I want a nice green color. Like a forest green.
Cris (17:21)
You're on a green color, okay.
Even if that's even if it's not stock coming off. Is this something cussing? Factory will say yeah green color from factory. Okay
KT (17:29)
See what
Cris (17:38)
I'm listening, I'm listening. What kind of suspension are talking about? Are we lifting this hatchback? Are we Are slamming this hatchback?
KT (17:46)
This
is just a daily driver, could just come with stock suspension, I don't need anything special there. In terms of power, or probably if it's a V8 it has to be what, 400 plus horsepower?
Cris (17:51)
Wild man.
It doesn't always, I've seen V8s at 3, right? 3 something, 320, 312, 315, like I've seen ones at 400. Yeah, so I mean, you want a hatchback V8, rear all wheel drive, rear or all wheel drive manual, want luxury leather seats, want carplay, green color from the factory, stock suspension, and you want around 400 horsepower.
KT (18:23)
400 horsepower. And this is just like your week, or this is my daily driver car. I can run to Publix with it, get my PubSub, come back home.
Cris (18:33)
Gotcha, gotcha. little better. All right, I think I'm gonna go fun here, Aye.
KT (18:35)
about you.
Tell me it's a truck.
Cris (18:42)
⁓
I'm gonna go a little bit outlandish here and actually let's actually switch this up. I'm gonna do a truck. Okay. I need something all-wheel drive though. Real-time all-wheel drive. So I don't care what it is. Two-door, four-door, I don't care. But I want something truck. ⁓
KT (19:01)
real time, aren't
Okay.
Cris (19:10)
real time all-wheel drive. right? I want... Bed size don't care. Okay. Don't care. Don't care about bed size. I'm gonna throw it all the wolves here. I don't care. I do want a manual. This is gonna be harder. So actually, I don't care about transmission either. I'll figure out the... I can figure out that in the back end. I do need it to be V6 turboed or V8.
KT (19:14)
It's your bed size.
Okay.
Cris (19:39)
for the power.
Okay, I don't care about luxury. The only thing I need is a radio. Let's see, I want it in red. Red, all right. Yeah, red. And I do care, I want some Fox suspension underneath.
KT (20:00)
Ooh, okay.
Cris (20:02)
I want it fully adjustable so I can do what I need, lift or raise.
I want Toyo's, some 35s on it. Actually 33s sound good. 33s, let's keep it simple. 33s, if I got a cut fender I will. ⁓ Lift kit, I want it lifted.
KT (20:30)
You're really specific now. This is gonna be good.
Cris (20:33)
I'm interested. I'm interested to see what our first one's like. I'm interested to talk about how we kind of feel this way. So it's going to be something fun that we kind of go through. Let's see. What else am I at? Stock suspension. No, that's that's I basically don't have anything else, man. ⁓ a horsepower. Man, if it's a V6 or V8, think we'll be, ⁓ no, that might be a little low. I think anywhere from like three, 300.
Let's do 250 to like 380. 380. Because I'm not going to need too much. If it's over that, oh well, cool. I'm not putting anything into the randomizer. Yeah. But I'm going to have some fun with it. And let's see. This will be like something a little while. So let's, I want a sun roof.
KT (21:05)
250 that
Sunroof? No luxury, but with sunroof.
Cris (21:30)
Yeah,
no luxury. I want one small radio attachment for aux, but I want something. Alright, man, that's all I got, man. I think that's building the...
KT (21:35)
Okay.
So
we got potentially four vehicles right here.
Cris (21:43)
Alright,
hold on. So which one have you put in? The second one or the first one?
KT (21:46)
I have
not put either of them in yet. I think I'm going to put in your first one and we'll discuss that one.
Cris (21:54)
Alright hold on. Chat is about to decide what cars we built. So let's review. So KT you built a coupe that's factory turbo straight six. The weekend warrior track time. It's got three to five hundred horsepower. It's lightweight about 2,800 to 3,300 pounds. You want an automatic DCT transmission or manual. Doesn't matter. Rear wheel drive only. Your priorities on the ride are precision and you want a double wishbone suspension.
KT (21:55)
So let me copy all this.
Cris (22:24)
I get everything so far. Alright man, that's what I got so far. I'm gonna go ahead and put it in. Let's see exactly what we get with this. find the car that, chat, find the car that matches this description.
KT (22:25)
Yes, sir.
Cris (22:42)
And we are going.
So Chad is loading right now. What do you think? What do you think the first car is going to pop up as? Like, I'm just curious to see. Because like you had a car in mind when you were saying this.
KT (23:00)
I honestly I don't I think it would be around the realm of like maybe like a nest 2000 or
Cris (23:11)
So how many cars do you want to know about this because this is? Okay, let me let me your top matches I'm gonna give you the top two because these are the exact Cars that you gave me with the horsepower With the factory with the lightweight with the weight with the double wishbone suspension So engine power drive your transmission your weight and exact matches are two vehicles, okay?
KT (23:15)
Well, how many did it spit out?
the acuity
Okay.
Cris (23:41)
You got a 2023 to 2026 BMW M2 with a 3.0 twin turbo inline 6. All right. It's 450 to 470 horsepower. Of course, you're seeing the CS version, the track, the variance. It's rear wheel drive. It's a six speed manual or eight speed DCT. Exactly like you were asking. It's about 3,400 pounds. So it's in the range. It's not very light, but it's a balanced vehicle.
The chassis is the adaptive suspension, so it's got double wishbone. I think actually it's fully adaptive. I'm not sure if it doesn't bring up the double wishbone. But why it fits you is it's the manual, powerful M96, it's the driver-centric feel. It's not a full double wishbone, excuse me. ⁓ They use multi-link, so it's a little bit in the future. So that's basically your best track coupe that you're looking for. Your second...
Vehicle and I feel like this is the one you had in your head the entire time is a Toyota GR Supra 2020 2026 it's the 3.0 twin turbo inline-6 BMW derived so I think it's the same motor 382 to 453 depending on which spec you choose real-world drive 6-speed manual 8-speed automatic of course
KT (24:54)
some of the BMWs.
Cris (25:03)
Your weight is 3,400 pounds, similar to that M2. So you're literally in the same range. Your chassis is tuned for balance, handling, and track fun. And it meets all your specs. It's turbo straight six. It's rear wheel drive. It's manual available, track capable. It's also, once again, not a double wishbone. It's a platform shared with the Z4 suspension, which I believe, once again, is gonna be multi-link front and rear. So it's every day.
KT (25:31)
That is crazy because I actually did at one point, and probably still do, want an M2. I did a lot of research on that car and went down a rabbit hole. ⁓
Cris (25:43)
Why didn't you get it?
⁓
you need a B &W name? Because cash, Because cash. Because we're broke. And we're trying to just find our way in life. That's hilarious.
KT (25:57)
But
that car, I wasn't even thinking about it when I was giving you all these requirements. But once you said that, I was like, yes, that car clicks right there. And the Supra too. I was thinking about that car as well. ⁓ Another BMW, essentially. But it checks just about all the boxes. I love the way both of them look from a driving performance standpoint. Both of them have that going for
Cris (26:08)
It does, it's crazy.
I feel like it's so funny that these two came up and I want to clarify something I made a mistake a little bit earlier the Toyota GR Supra 3.0 has a strut and modern setup. It's not a multi-link Okay, I want to clarify that but you know what the third vehicle that pull-up was okay before we keep going is a BMW M4 which is far one of my favorite
vehicles that I like. But it's funny that I see you in all three of these vehicles and I see you just grinning ear to ear on a track day just doing exactly what you do all the time. But this is something that for sure you could grab the keys, get in, and that's it. don't have to about it. Okay, it's on your list, man. It's on your list. So we can always refine it. But this is what chat spit out.
KT (27:04)
We need to make this happen.
Cris (27:13)
And I think Chad got you pretty good, man. This AI is going nuts. All right, so that's your first car. So let's go.
KT (27:21)
Are you ready? Are you ready to hear yours?
Cris (27:23)
I'm not sure, but sure, go for it.
KT (27:26)
Alright, so you told me a coupe with a turbo V6, you wanted to have ⁓ fun street car functionality around the 400 to 600 horsepower range, around 2900 to 3800 pound car, you really like the ability to drift it around, obviously a manual transmission, wheel or all-wheel drive for you.
Cris (27:47)
Of
KT (27:54)
You're really big about the driving experience. The independent rear suspension, the adjustability, that aspect. And the Bluetooth radio.
Cris (27:56)
100%.
Absolutely.
Hey listen, I'm a man who knows what I
Two speakers, not even four for the back. I just need two speakers, one on the passenger side, one on the driver's side, and I'm good, that's it. I'll super glue them to the roof, like, if I have to.
KT (28:22)
you're ready for this and I don't think we've talked about this car before personally so this is your your first time giving me your opinion of it but it is giving you a 2025 to 2026 Nissan Z
Cris (28:37)
Oh, that's crazy. You know what's nuts, dude? Is I have looked at those cars. Yeah. It's like, so I had a 300ZX at one point. OK. I had one a long time ago. Engie Bay was the worst thing to work on. Oh, yeah. You have to pull a motor to do as much as you can in that car. Yep. I loved it. I had a buddy who had an all wheel steering version. And let's just say at the end of the day, I gave it up. If it just couldn't.
couldn't fall in love with it. I love the Z name. I love everything it's for. ⁓
KT (29:12)
the
the history, all of
Cris (29:14)
find
a 180 at any point in time or Datsun I'd probably buy one just to get it nice and low.
KT (29:20)
So how would you feel if it recommended you a 350 or 370Z?
Cris (29:25)
I
have looked at them. I just okay. I'm a bigger guy, right? I'm not a small man Let's be honest. I love the way the 370s Z looks I always like 350s, but I just never fit I never got anything from them once again VQ
Super great sounding, tight engine bays again. Like it does again. So the new Z, funny enough, is actually on my list. It's I've been looking at. Not if I have the ability. If I wanted to lease a car instead of buy one, think the Z is definitely up there. The new Z is actually everything that I was looking at. It's a little smaller than I like, but I just like the style, the lines, the sharpness of
KT (30:15)
Yeah, it has a retro modern
Cris (30:17)
That's what I love about it, man. It's the retro modern look. It's everything. It has that wow factor. It's got that ⁓ cool factor. But it's got, if I want to spin, do some spinnings. You know what mean? I can throw it down.
KT (30:32)
And it checks off a bunch of things on your list, right? So it's a coupe, rear wheel drive, and it actually has a twin turbo V6. So puts out around 400-ish horsepower. There's a six-speed manual transmission option. It's a very popular street car, but it definitely has track capabilities.
Cris (30:43)
Take that.
I would absolutely love that.
It definitely does. I think that once again, we come back to our favorite thing about cars, which is this bad boy right here. Yeah, that price tag. So what is the average price of one of these? I think it's like after resale value and everything from the dealer, when those first came out, they were like, hey, we're going to add on. we're to mark up. Yeah, you. you. The dealer markups, we're going to add on. And these things are going to be 60 grand. Yeah.
KT (31:10)
yeah, there were a
Cris (31:18)
you know, Nissan came out and we're like, no, no, there'll probably be like 40, 50. Nope, no chance. You couldn't get one. Sometimes we're under 70 at some points when it first came.
KT (31:28)
yeah, they were super pricing or even more than
Cris (31:30)
And
even the resale value on the new Nissan Z's insane. ⁓
KT (31:38)
think they're going right now maybe like 40 to 50.
Cris (31:41)
They're at $4290 if you want the sport. You want the performance, you're at $52. If you the Nismo edition, which of course anybody looking for a diesel car, you're at $65. $66, geez, man.
KT (31:53)
Yeah, so it's a lot of money, but honestly with the price of new cars nowadays, you're going to get like an accord for almost 45k. yeah, for sure. So for an extra 20k.
Cris (32:04)
Listen,
at the end of the day, I don't think there's anything nicer than a... I can't even remember what the blue color is on the Z that I had built on the Z side. It was like electric blue or something like that or Nissan blue. Anyways, it was beautiful, had the right lines, it was exactly the car I wanted. It's just out of the price market. I'm not gonna lease something for, you know, $1,200 a month and just sit back. Although I can, I like...
but I choose to find a beater and go from there. You know, as much as I love it, we can find something else.
KT (32:39)
And to round it all out, does have Bluetooth.
Cris (32:42)
Yes, it does, sir. And that was the only, only tech feature that I need in the car.
KT (32:48)
So you want to hear what number two is? Yeah, don't know how you'll feel about this. I'm really curious of your opinion. So it doesn't check the coupe off the list, but it's a Cadillac CT4V Blackwing.
Cris (32:50)
Yeah, I'm actually curious.
Really? You
know, that's CT4. Man.
KT (33:09)
2024 to 2026, it's the Blackwing. So if you don't know anything about a 3.6 liter twin turbo V6. It's a sedan. 472 horsepower with a six speed manual transmission.
Cris (33:19)
okay i'm close
Okay, I'm starting to like the blackling a little bit more than I thought I was going to that sounds pretty good Daddy so it's got the luxury in it and I'll take the luxury. It's got everything I want from it. So that sounds like a fun car, man You know, what's funny is I remember when the CTS V came out. I was like, oh That's a nice car, man I was like I really like that they kind of finally had a blend I've heard a lot of maintenance issues coming up from those right? They GM did a good job building it up but of course
KT (33:30)
And it's a caddy,
Cris (33:55)
people clapped out the cts though you know they got a but i would be interesting interested excuse me and and ⁓ test driving a black one if they let you last time i checked i don't think they do
KT (34:06)
Yeah.
Cris (34:12)
Let me tell you the last time I've been in a Cadillac dealership. was...
KT (34:15)
when you were with your grandma.
Cris (34:18)
I've never been on a catwalk in my whole life. But that's exactly what it is. Oh man.
KT (34:26)
So you want to hear the third one? It's a it's a wild one and honestly, I don't know anything about this car But you want to hear it?
Cris (34:32)
this
is this is at this is this still the same list of the first as i did
KT (34:36)
Same
list, but this is like the alternative recommendation. So it's a Maserati MC20. I do not even know what that car looks like.
Cris (34:44)
Hahaha
Maserati MC plane, you know what? I'm gonna do the same thing. I'm just gonna say like Maserati.
KT (34:54)
Maserati MC20.
I can see you.
Cris (35:00)
You
can see me with that. Let me tell you what I can't see me in. Debt. Alright? I can see me in debt. Listen, funny enough, there's one ⁓ Maserati MC20 Selle Oisilo parked in Windermere. I think the guy owns a shop in, cause I passed by through ⁓ downtown Windermere all the time, the old Windermere. The guy, well the guy actually owns one of these. It's in white.
I it. It's just, do I trust Maserati as much as the name ⁓ implies? Yeah, but it's also considered a rare vehicle, right? The MC20 is like what? 1,400 units, Like Maserati only puts out enough. They're beautiful cars. ⁓ Would I rather have a black wing?
KT (35:50)
For this price, 240k, you could probably buy what, three black wings? Three or four black wings?
Cris (35:56)
I
don't think I'd buy three black wings. just... Like, you're just... Like, once again, we're back to the death thing. Okay, so I have something funny for you. I looked up your other car. And guess what? There's no full matches for your other car. Oh. So here's what you said. You asked for a hatchback, which of course threw me straight back into the Honda scene.
A V8, which as soon as I typed those two words in, I was like, I don't even think there is a V8. And then you ask for manual. You ask for rear all wheel drive, luxury leather seats, want carplay, want a green color from factory, stock suspension, and at least 400 or more horsepower. Here's what you got. They're not full matches, right? There's no hatchback V8. All right, sorry.
in, well Al, hold on a second. There's no hatchback V8 with all of that. So let's cover what we have. There's your first car on the list and Indy Lady tells me, closest factory built cars but not full matches. So the car that checks the box the most is your BMW Z3M Roadster Clown Shoe.
KT (37:18)
Clowns to you. I would rock a-
Cris (37:21)
Dude,
I know you would like a cloud shoe. You love small cars and I don't know why. You just love tiny vehicles. All right, so your layout's rear wheel drive, right? I know you asked for rear wheel. It comes in later models, but there is a V8. All right, the transmission, five-speed manual. The body's hatchback style or coupe as BMW says it with a rear lift back.
I just can't stand those words coming out of my mouth, so I'm not gonna say it Wyatt's close, right? You got the rare factory V8, you got the manual, and you got the hatch style. Why? It's gonna miss, because of course the Z3 M Coupe never had CarPlay, it had older tech. it's a little older. Yeah, so it's not gonna completely match. Now, here's your second one, and of course, it's gonna be funny. You got a Pontiac G8 GT, by the way, a G8. used to love this car, right?
or the GXP wagon 08-09. Right? So the wagon I'm seeing has that hatchback style. 6.0 liter V8 or LS2 or a 6.2 LS3 in it. So dude, you get two massive, of course insanely famous V8s. had an op, had, there was a transmission option for those cars that was an optional six speed manual. Could you imagine a six liter
with that in a wagon. I can just imagine some dude just taking his kids to school. No, everything's fine guys. All right, have a great day. He just like pulls the actual other seat belts in and latches it. He's like, today's a Friday, man. Downshift and it rips it. It's like that meme where it's like, who's that absolutely smashing it in the parking lot, drifting? And it's like, that's my dad.
KT (39:12)
That's the last day of school.
Cris (39:13)
Last
day of school, he just pulls out sideways in front of the community officers. So that's all I imagine of you driving this thing. So it's a wagon, not a hatchback. It's closed, right? Same shape. Real-wheel drive. It's got a V8. Man, real-wheel drive. Why it's missed is, of course, no luxury, no carplay. It's a sedan-based wagon. And you got a third one. OK. But I'm interested, before I hit this last one.
I'm interested to hear exactly what is my other vehicle. ⁓ Have you typed it in? Yeah.
KT (39:48)
I
it, I got it. So let's summarize this. You wanted a truck with real time all wheel drive. You don't really care if it's two or four door. Bed size doesn't matter to you. Manual or automatic transmission. You'll go with a V8 or a turbo V6. Looking around 250 to 380 horsepower. You need no luxury features at all, except the sunroof for some reason.
Cris (40:14)
Listen, sometimes I like the wind in my hair. ⁓ Sometimes that's just what I like.
KT (40:22)
Surprisingly you don't want bluetooth but you just want a radio this time.
Cris (40:26)
Yeah, that's fine. Whatever. I have Ray-Ban Meta, so I do this a lot.
KT (40:33)
fully adjustable Fox suspension, 33 inch tires, a lift kit, and red if-
Cris (40:39)
feel like I'm about to go to Ford Raptor is like the first car that pulls up.
KT (40:43)
Well, so...
We got a lot of Fords on this list, ⁓ as you know, there's not that many trucks out there, but the first one you add is an F-150, ⁓ particularly the Rocky Ridge Edition. Really? Yes. And you're probably more of a truck guy than I am, so I have no idea what the difference between the Rocky Ridge versus the Lariat or all those other ones are.
Cris (41:09)
Listen the lariat all those names you it could be rocky road for all I know then I'll be like sure yeah, whatever As long as it's not green and comes at me like I'm just fine like it's like good
KT (41:21)
So the F150, so it's a four by four, has a V8, 400 horsepower. checks all your boxes with your Fox suspension, your 33 inch tires, the sunroof too apparently.
Cris (41:35)
See? Alright, I didn't even have this in my mind. I went to time with thunder.
KT (41:38)
It's
a very close fit, it's not the perfect fit, but the second one is a Silverado 1500 and for some reason there's also a Rocky Ridge Edition that I don't know what
Cris (41:50)
Is nobody original anymore? Let's talk about that. Let's like start the episode over and just be like, does no one know how to name anything anymore? Let's just call it the same thing he did in a different year. No. It's like Rocky Road, but it's a different flavor in your mouth.
KT (42:01)
Welcome to the Rocky Ridge Podcast.
So very similar, but this one comes with a supercharged V8. ⁓
Cris (42:16)
Alright,
I might think of GM a little differently if I drive it. Let's talk about it first.
KT (42:22)
And the last one is, of course, Ford Ranger Raptor, which I love, but the Ranger though...
Cris (42:29)
Let's
talk about the Ranger Raptor. So that's the one you want? Yes. So let's talk about it. Ranger Raptor, why would I consider that over anything else? Let's talk about that.
KT (42:40)
I don't know for you. It's a baby Raptor, so it's a little smaller. It's not your full-size truck, but it does come with your twin-turbo V6. It pumps out around 400 horsepower. It has Fox suspension, has a lift kit on it, all that stuff already. It's like off-road Baja ready.
Cris (43:00)
Yeah, it's got the modes in it and everything can change and it's got all distribution rates and everything. That's a lot of electronics in a vehicle. ⁓
KT (43:08)
I'm
surprised it didn't recommend you an F-150 Raptor.
Cris (43:11)
Yeah, I mean that's actually surprising. That's the first thing. ⁓ Funny enough, I did not have that in my head when I was telling you this. I'm just thinking about possibly maybe an Overland build. Like, ⁓ what do I go with to start out an Overland? Now if I want something with a warranty, clearly I'm going to the Rocky Ridge whatever like ⁓ addition for something. Or, you know, I find, you other options. But that's a very interesting truck to put up there in that list.
Yeah. one of those. I mean, there's a couple of reasons why you've even looked at that truck. I mean, one of those reasons right there. Oh.
KT (43:45)
It's the same thing. It's a one, it's a very fast truck. Many like fast, fast trucks out there. For me personally, I like a smaller mid-sized truck. I'm not a big guy, as you can tell. I have no need for a big truck. just having something on the more compact size. Now I'm not going to go for a Maverick, but you know, like a Tacoma or a Ranger, those are good sizes for me. ⁓ But yeah, it kind of bridges the gap between an actual truck
in the sports.
Cris (44:16)
It brings the RPMs of a sports car to the subtleness of a truck.
KT (44:23)
We
talked about its driving experience and that truck has that driving experience.
Cris (44:28)
Well
it's funny because like it's funny that you've researched that car because of the cars that you have on here it's completely different because I know your driving experience you like small vehicles all balanced on the front and the rear end you like something fast enough to really pick up but light enough to really move around and it's funny that you bring up that truck as something that you would absolutely love to get because it is smaller it's got the power yeah right but are you it's like
It's like having the old school Nissan Frontiers with the RVs in them. Yeah. Like the RV twin turbos. Like dude, you're just whipping around an empty tailed bed.
KT (45:04)
It is, it's like the modern day version of that.
Cris (45:06)
That would be the funniest thing. And it's funny that it's, you know, it is Ford based. I mean, Nissan come around with the Nismo truck. That's all you need to do. Do a Nismo Frontier. Like you made the Juke. All right. Remember there was a Nismo version of it with the Skyline motor. All right. Let's talk about that a little bit and then put it in a Frontier. Frontier Nismo.
KT (45:22)
Bring that up again.
You know what we've learned from this whole entire exercise is that we just need to build our own vehicles at this point because nothing really here checks off all those things on our list.
Cris (45:44)
This is why car culture is the fun thing, man, because I get to put, you get to slam a V8 into a hatchback. I could just imagine the next question, he's going to be like, hey man, listen, I found a hatchback, it's 500 bucks, it's a Honda, we're just going to put an LS in the back of it. Now I'm just waiting on that phone call, it's going to happen.
KT (46:05)
Well, these are future projects for us. You guys gotta tell us. Do the same exercise. Let us know what you guys come up with.
Cris (46:12)
Yeah,
mean talk to your friends, talk to, leave some comments guys. So hold on, just before we head out and finish this out, I just want to let you know, your last vehicle was a Nissan 370Z. Which, what? You hate the 370Z? Why? It's a hatchback-like car.
KT (46:22)
Okay. See, I hate. ⁓
No, I'm not an Eastside.
Cris (46:33)
Give me a reason you can't just walk away from this. What exactly? Why don't you why don't you like Z's?
KT (46:39)
⁓ honestly, I just don't really like the way they look. That's really it.
Cris (46:42)
That's
fine. That's a good enough reason as any if you don't like the way it looks. You don't like the way a Nissan 370Z looks but the Z3M Clown Shoe you're all in. Yes.
KT (46:48)
The way the
I'm all for the clap.
Cris (46:56)
I just want to make sure we're on the same page here. All right, man. I think that was a fun exercise that actually told it's funny because our personalities have a little bit to match with that. I think mine could have used a little bit more fun. I think maybe in the future it might change. But it's a really cool, really fun exercise. Definitely try this out, guys, and then find out why we build our own cars.
⁓ Once again, ⁓ like click that subscribe button for us over here, man We're definitely gonna keep doing it keep having some fun and thanks for watching So thanks guys out
KT (47:30)
Yep.
