So here's what I'm gonna have you do. I'm gonna have you tell the story. Okay. And then tomorrow on the show, we're gonna tell it to everybody who doesn't just listen to the podcast. So we'll call this a preview, a podcast preview of a story we're gonna share on the show tomorrow.

Well, I decided that I was gonna go to the gym, and I don't like a lot of the activities at the gym. And so I said, but I do like to swim, and I can swim laps.
I'm a little bit slower than I used to be these days, but I also don't want to get my hair wet, and so I bought a swim cap. That's right. It came in the mail yesterday. It came in the mail yesterday. So you did a test fitting. I did a fitting.
You did a kitchen swim cap fitting. And we've got that on video. That was fun. Uh so we'll we'll share the video of your swim cap test fitting. Yep. Uh tomorrow on uh on our socials. So make sure you're following us. hitting the gym. You're hitting the pool. I'm hitting the gym pool. Okay.
I'm gonna go do some laps. Uh how many do you think I can be able to do today? I don't know. I bet I could do four. Four laps.
That's a it's a pretty small pool. It's not like a full Olympic size pool.
How many, how many laps do you think are a mile?
How many pool laps in a mile? Yeah. Uh around 35 round trip laps. Okay. Okay.
They say to get like the max effort, you've got to you gotta swim for at least 30 to 45 minutes. I'm like, I can do that. That's easy. No problem.
But you you've got to swim laps that whole time.
Yeah, I can do that. It's fine. You gotta. It said that you should vary your strokes. Yeah, for sure. Uh I like to swim side stroke. That's my favorite. Is it? Yeah. Okay. They say that the breaststroke is like the best way to get like the most benefits.
You're doing a big shoulder workout.
But I don't know how to do that one. So I'm gonna have to practice that one. That's one that I'm not so good at. All right. What's the regular one called? Just freestyle swimming. It's a freestyle stroke.
I think you gotta do like 70.4 lengths in a 25-yard pool. That's 35 round trip laps. I'm telling you right now, that pool is not 25 yards. It's probably half that. I'm thinking you're gonna have to do 70 round trip laps to get to get your fall. I think that's a half-length pool. Are you second guessing your workout strategy?
No, because you just gotta work your way back up to it. So I'm gonna start. I'm gonna do my 30 minutes, my 30 to 45 minutes.
And just do as many laps as you can.
Do as many as I can. And if I need to take a break, I'll take a break. But the idea is to just get moving. Yes, it is.
I really enjoy swimming. You could swim for 35 minutes. I will do my treadmill for two miles, which is about the same because I'm walking in an incline at about three and a half to 3.7 miles per hour. So I'm doing a pretty steady uphill walk. Okay.
Um, so you do your laps the same time I'm doing my miles, and then we can meet up for like a hot tub. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. That's the reward. That's it is a decent one.
Some people reward themselves with a smoothie, but I'm gonna reward myself with
a I will make us protein shakes when we get home. Okay. Because they're pretty good. I just made a little eight-ounce protein shake. Uh, and it's wicked good. Okay. Yeah.
Thumbs up. Yeah. I'm excited.
That's just shaker bottle. That's it. It's the powder in milk. I'm not even doing anything fancy. And it tastes great. So. All right. All right, cool. We'll do it. Yeah, that'll happen. Okay. All right. Big big stuff coming your way tomorrow. Here is today's show. I think we should probably get the sad news out of the way this morning, and then we can uh move uh into our good news segment. But first we got we do we've got to talk about Dolly, right?
Yeah, but yeah. Uh eighty years old. I'm minding my own business at lunch yesterday, and you send me a text that says Dolly Parton died. And uh and that is super sad, and the internet has been shook by it. Uh I think that's everyone is crushed. Uh this does this seem out of nowhere. Yeah. Yeah, it does. And I get 80, but that's a young 80 for Dolly.
I know, and she was just out like doing stuff. Uh this is a sad one. This one is a blow. Yeah. Everyone's torn up about this one, which is says something about you and how you lived as a person.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. The the the across genres, across generations, across uh, I mean, uh all kinds of different people are just blown away by that. Uh Dolly Wood will be open today as scheduled, uh, honoring her longtime belief that the show must go on. The Tennessee theme park had already been scheduled to be closed yesterday, so that was all part of the schedule, but they will be open today. Um, I can imagine that place is gonna be swamped. Yeah, uh, for sure. Um it did say in the uh, you know, kind of the media stuff that's been released that she did have a very brief battle with cancer.
Um, and I did not know that, but that's my own fault. Her representatives say that uh she did die surrounded by loved ones good at a cancer center in Nashville after being hospitalized for just four days. Pretty crazy. Very sad. Yeah.
Very sad. She was awesome. She was always doing great things for kids and reading in books and unbelievable. She's just the best unbelievable human being.
Um big loss.
Big loss for us.
And uh I was looking uh this morning, I was seeing some stuff. The Empire State Building last night lit up for Dolly uh in in a shimmery pink, which is really, really cool. Um unbelievable. Uh, but anyway, it is the sad news.
That is sad news. We'll we'll get to better news here in a minute, but we had to we had to say something. Yeah, we had to say something about Dolly. Yeah. We'll miss you, Dolly. She's the goat. All right.
Uh good news for you this morning. Children's Palace. This is a preschool and child care center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. And along with the usual preschool and child care fund that the kids enjoy, Children's Palace also organizes an event.
It's called the birthday party for a friend we don't know. And what they do is they have uh a drive of sorts, which teaches students the power of generosity. And last week, the kids at Children's Palace put together a collection of gifts for a young friend at the La Crosse Salvation Army shelter. Uh they delivered the gifts along with freshly baked cakes because it's a birthday party for a friend we don't know. Uh and thanks to extra support from different businesses and organizations, Children's Palace pulled off its largest donation since they started the tradition back in 2004, giving uh shelter kids a huge unforgettable birthday celebration.
Ah, that's I think that is amazing. That is amazing. And I like the name too. A birthday party for a friend we don't know. Yeah. And what are you teaching these kids? so much?
Teaching them to be nice to everyone.
I know. It's amazing. And to meet new friends. Right. And to help take care of people, even if you don't know them. Exactly. This is a big deal. So I really like what they've got going at this children's palace uh in Wisconsin. Very, very cool, very generous, very kind, and good news.
Last night, um, we were getting ready to go to bed, and you said, Oh, hey, I want you to come look at the shirt. I did some laundry, and I want you to look at the shirt and see if I did okay with this stain treatment.
And you were super excited because it wasn't. Because you were remembered. Yeah.
If that's not love, I don't know what is.
That I had remembered you said, hey, if you end up doing laundry before I get to it, uh stay treat my shirt stain on this black shirt. Yeah. Okay.
So I looked, it looked great. I said, thanks so much for remembering and for doing that. Yeah. Found out it was the wrong shirt, but yeah, yeah, yeah. It's okay.
But that's beside the point. The actual shirt I did stain treat, and it's okay. It's okay. It'll be okay.
Uh where was I going? Oh, so then I go, Thanks, Josh, so much for doing this. That's so nice of you. And Emery says, Dad does everything. And I go, You're right. He does do everything. And then I got to thinking, hmm. Do I do stuff? Does you do contribute to that one?
We've had this conversation. I've got chores I do when I get home because I have the time. And usually, like during the school year and stuff, it's just me. And so I'm like, cool. I've it's just I'll put on some music, or sometimes not, and I'm just gonna uh uh hammer out some chores real quick, dishes, laundry, make the bed, you know, whatever. I get those things done. And then that's also when I work on the yard or whatever, like go to the garden, all that stuff. Yeah. So that sort of is the time that I've allotted for that. So it isn't that I do more or that I do everything. It I just have this time available that I go, okay, I'm gonna use that time for this purpose.
I think Emory knew that was a button to be pushed. Yeah, I agree with you. And so she went, yeah. You don't do enough, you don't do as much as dad. Correct. And then that set me on a spiral. And I was like, I do stuff too. Dad does a lot, but I'm right.
And then you're like I make sure you get to your appointments, I make sure you then you started rattling off stuff. Yeah, stuff I do. Yeah. And what did I say then? And it still stands true right now. We're a team.
I don't remember what you said.
Yeah, because you're just blinded by rage. What did you I said, I said it's not a competition. And then I moved into another room and you were like, Yeah, but I still do stuff. And I went, No, no one said you didn't except for you, and then the teenage daughter who went, This wasn't just certainly buttons easy. Yeah. Yeah. Thanks for doing so much. What do I don't do?
I do stuff too. We both do stuff.
You order the food, I cook the food. You help usually clean up after the food. It's it's all team effort. It's all good. Yeah. It is a team effort. Boom. Shakalaka. There you go. Boom, shakalaka.
Thanks for agreeing that I also do stuff to contribute. That's all. That's it. You're welcome. We had been shopping over the weekend, and Emory got a little bit cranky because she couldn't find what she wanted to find. And for some reason that crankiness turned its attention on me. As it tends to do.
You are her favorite to be angry at.
I always take that as a compliment because they say you take your anger out on the one that you're closest to. Sure.
And that is, I think, part of being uh a mom of a teenage daughter. Agreed. Now well, let me let me reel that back. When you were her age, uh-huh. Were you cranky and then took it out on your mom? Never. No. Yes.
Come on. Yeah, I did. I'm positive.
Because you guys were you guys were pretty tight. Yeah. And uh, and I'm sure you had 16-year-old emotions. Oh, yeah. Yes.
She got the wrath a lot of the time. Okay.
Because there's nowhere else to put it. This is when your mom was like, one day you're gonna have a daughter and you're gonna get all of this back. You're gonna wish you hadn't done this. Yeah. Yeah.
You're gonna wish you hadn't done this. Or whatever. I don't think she ever said that.
Under her breath, she's like, you're wish you're gonna do
it. But yeah, because you it's a safe space. You know that if you get mad at your mom, she's still gonna love you at the end of the day. the day. So Emery was mad at me. Beck came to my support. We were just walking, she's mad at me. I go, she well, she actually said to me, I go, why are you mad at me? And she goes, Because you're being a grouch. I said, I I'm totally fine. I'm not the one being a grouch. I didn't say that.
So that was a projection.
Because that was that was kicking the beehive. Sure. I just quietly just looked at her like, okay. All right. You believe what you want to believe, kid. Beck came to my attention and said, To your defense. To my defense. And said, She's not a grouch.
What are you talking about? She's fine. She's having fun. She's joking. She's laughing. And that ruined, like Beck should never have done that. No kidding. Because then she got mad at him. And even more mad at me. Yeah.
How could you not tell him to be quiet?
I don't know how that made her more mad at me. I don't know. I don't either. Uh it's all good. I was just happy my son stood up for me. Yeah. Wow.
I want to talk about uh how terrible uh she is about waiting for packages. I don't know if I want to talk about that yet because that's that's its own kind of tale. And we've we've talked briefly about it, but boy, has this one been bad lately.
This is your fault. This one comes from you. Let's just talk about it. Okay, go.
Couldn't find the size of shoes in the store that she wanted, so we ordered them. And then you got an email that said, hey, here's the tracking info, and it wasn't working and it wasn't doing what it was supposed to do.
Right. She didn't have access to any of the tracking info. So when I got my hands on the actual shipping uh, you know, companies tracking, I just sent it out. And she apparently has been checking that thing like every 10 minutes because it said it might have arrived yesterday. Dude. And like even hanging out with her boyfriend, he was last night. I don't know if you heard him. He said she just checked it like five minutes ago. Like she's she's obsessed. She's obsessed.
Like and she gets that from you. You are equally as obsessed with packages.
Last night she said, This is why I don't order things online. And I'm thinking to myself, like, you she's been doing online shopping for back to school clothes. She orders stuff online all the time. She's like, she just sits there and watches the tracking every minute.
But there's been a couple of things we've wanted to order online that she thinks she can get in store, and I say, let's just order that online. It'll be easier. And she's like, I don't I can't. I can't.
She absolutely cannot order anything online. Right. And she knows her obsessive behavior. Oh, yeah. So she I'm proud that she's like, I can't. I can't order things online because it turns me into a maniac. Hi, yeah, yeah.
I know. But then she was like, Have you checked it? Have you seen it? I said, I sent you the tracking. I'm gonna look at it on my phone just like you are. Like it's the same the same tracking.
I just got an email. Yeah. She'll be happy to know it's out for delivery. Oh, that's amazing.
We can put this one to bed. That'll be great. Tell she orders something else. Don't. When they started doing like, hey, your package is 10 stops away. Your package is nine stops away. She's like, Is it almost here? Eight stops away. Anyway. Crazy. Crazy indeed.
That comes from you. Hers is just worse.
So the emotional thing comes from you, and the impatience for waiting for a package comes from me. Sure. All right, good. So she's our daughter. We're getting closer and closer to football season kicking off the regular season.
September 9th. It's gonna be the uh Seahawks and the New England Patriots. Yeah. It is a it is a uh uh rematch of Super Bowl 60 between the defending champions, the Seattle Seahawks. Now hard pass why.
I don't I don't necessarily care for either one of those teams.
Okay, well, maybe you'll be there for the halftime show. Why? Soundgarden will return to the stage. Sound garden? Yeah. Yeah, I will tune in. You will. Yeah. You don't like Sound Garden.
But who do they have in instead of Chris Cornell?
So they'll be joined by Taylor Momsen, who is Cindy Louhu. Oh. Uh she uh is from the band The Pretty Reckless. Yes. As well as Mike McCready from Pearl Jam. Interesting. Yeah. So that's who will be performing the halftime. No, I don't need to tune in at the NFL season opener. It's two things you love together at once.
Football from players I don't care about and a band that I don't care about. You're right. There are things you love together in one.
All at the same time. One spot. Isn't that fun?
It sure is. I'm probably not gonna watch that one. But I do need to get a schedule out of Oh, when your games are when my games are. Yeah.
I think September 9th is uh is when this game is. Um September maybe it's the 20th is when you play Detroit, and that is when your team will be wearing their new rivalries jerseys.

I have seen the rivalries. There you are. They are very cool.
Emery sent me a compilation video the other day of like the big dudes.
Yes, the O line that too. And when they get to run the ball. Yeah. Some of them make it to the end zone. Yeah.
There's a lot of things. so happy. They get that touchdown. I love it when the big dudes get to run the ball. It makes me so happy. It makes them very epic. So happy. Yeah. And the whole team and crowd are cheering for them. They're like, go big guy go. I love it so much.
It's uh it's definitely one of the funner things to watch. Uh anyway, I'm excited for you to to watch the big regular season opener. It's gonna be a big night. I'm probably not gonna watch that. So uh pass. All right. September 9th.
That's uh Wednesday. That can't be right. Is that what it said? Now we've got to go back and look. I don't think they're doing football on a Wednesday.
They'll be September 9th, yeah. Soundgarden will return to the stage in their hometown of Seattle September 9th, as the uh halftime show for the NFL season opener on September 9th. Why on a Wednesday? I couldn't tell you. Okay. But that's strange. That's when September 9th. What? Yep.
That's when I was talking to a friend the other day, and he said, What if you could get rid of any genre, any musical genre, which one would you get rid of? And I said, country music, because I don't enjoy country music.
Okay, like at all. Like if it all disappeared, you would be just fine. Yeah. Well, I know.
There's a couple of country songs I do like a couple of things.
Some of the 90s stuff and some of the even older stuff because it was is in your house.
Pick which one left, that would be the one. Interesting. Now he said he couldn't get rid of country because he doesn't necessarily like it, but he couldn't get rid of Dolly Barton. Sure.
Or Patsy Klein. Okay. Then he told me which one he would get rid of, and he said he would get rid of any of that like slow, just kind of kind of the stuff that you listen to when you're backpacking. Just like the guitar, just like that slow-paced kind of walking. He said absolutely we've been talking about going camping. And he said, absolutely no guitars by the campfire.
And I went, have you ever heard a guitar by the campfire? It's awesome. He said I can't even believe it. I know.
I know. I said, you really have to go camping with Josh because sometimes we do bring a guitar and play by the fire. Or harmonica. Or harmonica. Or we've even bought you a bugle.
I'm not bringing the bugle to the campfire. Uh what about EDM for you? Oh. I feel like I feel like you would get rid of. Is it just EDM? Is it dubstep? Is it house? Like which part of EDM don't you like?
I don't understand what you mean when you say dubstep and house.
And techno. They're all different. And there's many of them. Electronic? No. Pump up the jam. No. But that is some dance music. That's the DM part of EDM. Electronic is the E part, so it's electronic dance music. It's computer built-in computers, right? Yeah. Why are you rolling your eyes like that?
I just just go. Keep going.
Because I know you do like some of the dubstep stuff. Like there's some stuff from like Skrillex that you like.

I have a coworker whose son is learning how to play the saxophone. Yes. And they went camping recently, and he brought a saxophone because he needed to practice.

Let's go back to the bugle because you did get a bugle for Christmas. I completely forgot about it. A couple of years ago.
It's been several years. It's probably been five or six years.
We bought it for you because we wanted you to play taps for us as we went to bed at night. Right.
Fall asleep to that. And you wanted me to play the uh the revelry in the morning, too. No. Yeah. To get everybody up and moving in the whole campground.
I don't think I wanted that. I just wanted a nice slow bugle before bed. I actually just thought it would be cute for you to take on your scouting adventures. Right. You forgot about it. I know where it is. Terrible gift. But I haven't practiced.
I gotta get the the hearsing of my lips down to make the right noise.
If We you learn the bugle. Yes. And I'll still keep on with my drums.
And we'll be bugles and drums. Dude. And then we'll march into the revolution.

Well, you're gonna have you're gonna have other instruments. So you're gonna have am? Well, yeah. my kazoo. Your kazoo and your harmonica. My slide whistle?

Well, it'll go good with the trumpet and the drums. Trumpet. Bugle. Different. Different. It's a trumpet without keys. It's the same. There's just no keys on top.
Well, I didn't buy you a trump, but I bought you a bugle. Right. That is just sitting wasting away. Well, it's on a shelf. Looking cool.

Never instruments were made to be played. And that one is wasting away.
I'll pick it up. I'll learn to play the bugle.
When we go camping with my friend, make sure we bring that to the campfire. Right. He'll love that. You didn't want a guitar.
No, I'm bringing my Bluetooth speaker and I'm playing all of my backpacking and fly fishing music because it's a whole playlist of what he wants to eliminate. And that is rude. Very rude.
Okay, there was an internet question that says, what's one app or website that you will never forget? Something that you used to spend way too much time on.
I honestly I feel like every time I go to eBay, I get a little bit nostalgic. Do you? Yeah, because uh we'd go over to my aunt and uncle's place and they were big on eBay, and that was uh that and uh whatever the website was that had pop it. Uh Yahoo Games. No. I don't know what website that was.
I used to spend a lot of time on Naps.
Pogo. Pogo.com.
Pogo.com. Oh, yeah, I remember pogo.com.
You used to spend a lot of time on Napster downloading songs illegally. That's what you're saying. Everyone did. No.
You did get out of here. I don't even know what that is. Never heard of it. We had dial up internet though. And so did one song. Took all day. It took so long. And you would have to carve out five hours.
Yeah. And say, nobody use the phone. Nobody call. And my mom would say, but I gotta call my boss. And I said, no, I'm downloading this weezer song. You can't. Um some of the other websites that people have talked about are MySpace. Okay. I spent a lot of time on MySpace.
Uh but that was later. Like I mean, it's still like it's nostalgic, but it was that was like into the 2000s.
A lot of people spent a lot of time on NeoPets. I didn't do a lot of it. I didn't do NeoPets. AOL.
Wasn't it Neo Pets? Those are the ones you could actually buy, and they had the code, and then you could uh like put the code in uh to the game, and then you could play with the animated character of the toy you had of the stuff the animally had. Sure. I'm pretty sure.
How about AOL and instant messenger? Yeah. Aim. Yeah, I spent a lot of time on that.
And uh the other one, uh ICQ. I did uh ICQ for chats.
I don't know what ICQ is. I didn't do that one. Yeah. Uh I was telling the kids the story the other day, but when I was in college and I left for the summer, my roommate stayed at our apartment for the summer, and she got bored, and she was on a dating app and and was trying to hook me up with a guy on, and he instant messaged me all the time. Yeah. And he didn't even know you. I didn't even know him. Oh, hamster dance. Oh, yeah.
That was a good classic one. I think it's still up and running.
How about Ask Jeeves? Sure. Did you go to that one?
I probably. That was an early search engine, so that would make sense. GeoCities. Okay, so I didn't do GeoCities, but I did do uh there were several different like website building platforms like Angel Fire and GeoCities, and that was where I started to learn how to code HTML when I was 12 or 13. And uh built websites. I didn't do it. For a lot of time.
No, it's illegally downloading music.
Yeah. I was I was making internet.
I did go to Live Journal, Live Journal is on this list, and I loved Live Journal. Live journal was just people could write like in their diary, and then that's what Substack is now. Oh, yeah. Before Substack, it was Live Journal. And Live Journal was bomb. Yeah.
Uh MapQuest is still up and running. I'm I'm there right now. MapQuest.com. They've updated. Good.

Um Yeah, some funny videos and funny pictures. Yeah.
And that, but mostly like they had cool like tank games and stuff, if I remember right. It's been a long time. Look at MapQuest doing its thing.
Look at MapQuest. Wow. I wonder how many hits they've gotten in the last couple of years. Well, they just got a new one. I'll go there so they can get two. Wow. You used to have to print off stuff from MapQuest.
Um, I was hoping they still had a print button. I was I was looking to I'm sure they do.
Oh, poor MapQuest. Now did MapQuest exist before Google Maps. Yes. Then what how come Google Maps took over? Marketing. Oh. Satellites. Oh poor MapQuest.

MapQuest isn't even on this list of nostalgic websites. Well, it's still up and running. But that is definitely one that you used quite frequently. Yep. Absolutely. In your geocaching world. Oh, yeah.
Dude, that was for sure. Uh Lego still has an old look. Their old website was pretty cool. Um it's way different now. It's very graphic intense and everything else, but um, but they the old Lego website with new CD ROM. CD ROM. Yeah. That
was pretty cool Anyway, there's still some good old internet out there.
Go spend some time with some of your old favorites. Go check out MapQuest. What's Napster doing these days? No idea. No, the guy from Metallica shut it down.
Way to go, Metallica. I don't know. It was like a week or so ago that you were talking about the meta lawsuit that was happening. Yeah. Uh this morning, they have reached a settlement with uh the several states that are involved. Uh Massachusetts, Kentucky, Florida, California, Nebraska, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Vermont. It is a 17 billion dollar settlement. Uh, which is pretty incredible. Um, and uh according to what I'm reading here uh this morning, in addition to the 17 billion dollar uh settlement that'll be paid out to the uh 47 states that have been involved in this, um, they will also be adding child safety measures to Facebook and Instagram to end this landmark trial over teen social media addiction, um, which is uh a major, major problem, right? Um, and according to And adults, oh yeah, for sure.
It's not just a teen problem.
No, but we've been dealing with this since we were young people. Like Facebook's been around since we were pretty young. Um and uh this this agreement just in Virginia alone is one of the biggest in the state consumer protection history.
Virginia alone is 353 million dollars, which is pretty incredible. Uh and their attorney general said for years Meta intentionally deceived the public about its addictive and harmful design features that have wreaked havoc on youth's mental ha uh mental health, uh, and this will put an end to these dangerous practices and deliver meaningful relief that will protect children from online harm, uh, which is a big big deal. Um, and so some of the things that you were talking about um were like the endless scrolling, yeah, uh some of the different ad targeting, uh-huh, um, some of the content that uh portrays bullying or harmful material about eating disorders and self-harm and all of these things that are just available um to uh to anyone. Um, and you know, not necessarily you were even researching that stuff, it just comes up in your feed.
Um, and they uh, you know, are working now. Apparently, Meta is adding a host of safety features to Instagram, um, with stronger protections around messaging and privacy and content restrictions. Um, but we'll see if they finally do get down to where they get rid of the endless scroll and the algorithms and all of the other things that you were pointing out that were also harmful.
Um, and we'll see. I hope that's the case because it's very addictive. It's very, very much fuels um a dopamine response, and uh and that has sort of been ignored for a long time. So anyway, just there was an update this morning about that uh that I thought you might be interested in.
I am interested. Thank you for sharing. Uh yeah, I've in an effort to put down my own addiction, because adults have a problem too. I emory calls us screenagers sometimes. Sometimes I'm trying to do more.
I like when uh when sometimes one person puts their phone down and they're like, We all gotta get off our phones. That's always fun. And you go, like, you just barely put yours down. What are you talking about?
Or when when uh an older person goes, these kids in their phones these days, as they then scroll facing tirelessly, just all and theirs as loud, way loud and and filled with AI movie posters that they fall for. You know what I'm saying? That's my mom. That is your mom.
That's my mom's phone usage.
Who goes, you know they're making that movie? And you go, No, they're not. No, that's not a thing, mom. You fell for it.
No, no, it's right here. It's a poster, it's not Ryan Gosling.
Why would they make that if it's not real? This is the same group of people, by the way, who said, Don't believe everything you see on that internet machine. Uh-huh.
The internet machine. That's right. That's what they called it back then.
Did they? They said, You get on that internet machine, you don't believe everything you see. Don't get scammed now. You go, now I have to do the same for you. Don't get scammed and don't believe everything you see on that internet machine.
They're not making a notebook too, mom. Nope.
They're just not. There's no story to tell. Why would they make that poster? It's not real. Anyway. Uh sorry for your losses, Meta.
When you and I were dating in 2003. So early, okay. Uh, I was working, I was living in Pocatello. That's right. And working at a store called Crafts and Frames. That's right. Which is now where the goodwill is. It used to be where the goodwill currently is in Pocatello.
So where the goodwill currently is was a craft store called Crafts and Frames. That's correct.
And then they moved it after I left, but whatever.
Uh whatever. I wasn't there for that. Because they moved it over by the Walmart. Correct. Yeah.
And then it went out of business. But you were living in Idaho Falls. And so we had a pseudo long distance relationship. If you can call that a little bit.
That 40-minute drive long distance. Sure.
It was kind of a pain sometimes. So yeah, I'm gonna call it long distance because it was the pits. Okay. Okay. When I was at work at Crafts and Frames, we had these headsets so that we could talk to each other throughout the store. That's right. And there was a girl I worked with. Annette. Annette. Uh-huh. And I loved her.
Right. And she loved me. And whenever you would come to visit, like you would come into town, you drive to Pocatello, and you'd walk in the store, and she would immediately radio. She had tell your boyfriends here.
It's true. I was thinking about her the other day. I wish I knew her last name. Oh. Because I want to do that old like I found you. Ah. But then I go, is that weird to be 20 years later? Hey, I think about twenty.
Twenty three years later. You want to go like, you know, I still tell that story.
I still think about you because we had fun working there together.
Yeah, that's nice.
But it's no idea. Or is it a little bit stalkery? Like, I I wonder if she ever thinks about me.
Do you just like look up on Facebook, people named Annette? No. And scroll through them and go, nope, that's not her. Nope, that's not her.
No, because 23 years has passed. Would I even recognize her?
No, but like she she was blonde, if I remember right. Uh huh. So maybe you could fill it out. Strawberry blonde. Why don't they let you filter the results? Like the person I'm looking for was blonde.
Is she currently blonde? Couldn't tell you. I don't know. I was blonde 23 years ago, too. Not anymore. Yeah, I was. Dirty dishwater. Yeah. Terrible name. I know. That's what my hair color used to be. And then it's been red and purple and black. Sure.
It's been short, it's been long. It's been platinum blonde. Yeah. Bad choice. And very short when it was. Uh-huh.
Anyway. Do you ever wonder if co-workers think about you the way you think about them?
No. No, I don't. I do not do that. There are some people that I hung around with in high school. I'd like to know what they're up to, but I I whatever. Everybody's living their own life.
All right. I know. But it would be fun to just connect and be like, remember? Yeah. And she goes, no. Who are you? Yeah, exactly. That's the that'd be the saddest thing. I was like, oh, I loved when we work together. And she's like, I don't remember that.
I was going through uh a nostalgic moment and I was looking at some of my old college roommates, and then I found out one of them had passed away, and I went, What? Like that's wild. And I had no idea. And like, and like it happened years ago. And I went, that is wild. Oh. I know. I'm sorry, Josh. I I mean, I uh clearly didn't keep in touch.
So thing about relationships that I always think is fascinating is there's people who are a part of your life, and sometimes they're a part of your life for a couple of years. And then one day you just go your separate ways and you never see them again. Yeah. It is strange. What's it all for? Life is so strange.
Hey, if you really want to impress your uh teenager, uh, do something where you're kind of public facing and recognizable. They love it, and then get recognized in public and then watch them go, oh, come on. And then go to their turf.
Go to where they have to exist for hours and hours and hours every day. And then you're on a back to school night and you walk into a classroom, and literally you're just like, hey, how's it going? Meeting some teachers, and then the teacher looks up and goes, Hey, wait a minute. I know you.
I was just watching your video.
I was just watching your video talking about cereal. And then uh it all comes to light that uh one of your teenage daughter's teachers listens to the show and recognizes uh recognizes you from uh the radio, and then that it's just it's gonna be a bad year for her. It's gonna be a bad year.
Yeah, and he said specifically, is she the one that you talk about all the time? Yeah, and we said, Yeah, she is. And she said to us, Emory said, I hate when my teachers know who you are. Every year there's been at least one. Yeah. Sorry. It's our fault. Sorry, kiddo. Yeah. My bad.
Anyway, that happened uh just the other day. And uh, and so hey, what's up, teach? I hope you listen to you have a good year. Uh it was it was fun to watch her at Back to School Night, by the way. She really owned back to school. She absolutely did. Uh walked in, introduced herself to teachers. She went and saw some teachers she knew from years past, and uh that was great. Really, really cool.
Yeah, we were kind of just tag alongs. Yeah. Which is awesome.
I'm not mad about like great back to school night. But she's also said this year, she goes, I'm locking in. She said, I am I am doing this year big. I'm gonna be cooking, she said. Yeah, but she's not even in a cooking class, so I don't know how she's gonna be cooking. She is she teacher's aid for the lunchroom staff? How's she gonna be cooking? Come on. She doesn't even have an apron. Yeah, what? Stupid. Don't be dumb, Josh.
You're ruining our street cred.
I like I like making silly things just completely like literal. That's fun. I'm literally cooking. Are you? Look at you. Now turn that pancake over before it burns. Pancakes. Who do you have a pancake?
No, I don't have a pancake. Because I'm not cooking. But I could.
I could. I do have the technology to cook.
You a couple of years ago brought in your grill and you were cooking in the parking lot. That's right. And then you also brought like a little griddle and put it in the kitchen and you made breakfast for us and morning folkers. Yeah. Morning folks. Yeah.
And I haven't uh done that since. It was when I got the grill. Okay, so it was around February, is around uh Groundhog Day when I got the the grill. Uh huh. And I wanted to break it in.
And so I brought in sausage links to cook for everybody on Groundhog Day, because it's ground hog. See, literal. I like doing that.
I like that. So I I cooked ground hog on groundhog day for the office. It was because I needed to season the grill, so I was gonna cook some sausage on it. And I did in the parking lot. I know it was hard. So it was kind of uh twofold thing.
I like it when you bring breakfast to cook. I should do that.
Uh it would it's a little tough when you're in the middle of also doing a show. It is. It's hard to cook. I can't cook in here.
Even when we just bring our yogurt to eat sometimes, you have to hurry and eat it most of the time. Right.
Because the song's only three minutes long. You gotta be quick. You got you gotta get that cottage cheese.
You gotta go to the take the a restroom break. You gotta get to getting. That's right.
You gotta high-step it on You can't just throw on a nine minute long song and then you know, you gotta be back. Anyway, we got noticed and it was funny. It is funny. And she doesn't like it.
She doesn't like it. She doesn't think we're cool. She thinks we're totally lame. Our aura goes down every time. Our what? Aura. What did I say? That's wild.
You like the Sims, do you? You like the Sims. I mean, yeah.
All right. The game? Yeah, the game. Yeah.
The the PC game, the Sims. Yeah. You like uh Sim City? Do you ever play Sim City?
Uh I did not, but I'm just a city builder.
Well, he played City Skylines. Oh, so sorry. That's all right. I was gonna get to City Skylines because it's better than Sim City. Okay. Uh, but it is a uh you build a city in a simulated world and it has like natural disasters happen, but you have to like do a lot of um civil engineering because you have to build the roads and you have to get everybody in and out of town, and like there's just a lot that goes into it, right? Yeah. So uh City Skylines is a great game. It's a lot of fun. I enjoy playing it. It's a it's really good. Uh you like the Lego games, do you?
I do love the Lego games.
You like uh you like a good Lego Harry Potter or a Lego Star Wars Star Wars, those are fun.
The Lego Adventures, the Lego Lord of the Rings. All of them. Dude, I love those games.
Mostly just walking around breaking stuff. Yeah. You 100% the Lego Harry Potter games uh plural. There were two games.
I sure did.
Yes. On uh on which console? The Xbox. Yeah, I think that's right.
I've never been more proud of any achievement ever.
Then when you won hundred percent of the Lego Harry Potter games.
given birth to our daughter naturally without any medication That is true. I've never been prouder of beating that Harry Potter game.
100% completion. All the all the red bricks, the whole thing. You did it all for hours and hours and hours.
And there was a glitch in the system, too.
It did crash on you a couple times, and you got stuck. It Was a bad time. Um so there's a new game coming out. It is a combination of the Lego Worlds and City Skylines. It is a Lego City Builder, uh, which looks really, really fun. Um, it's uh developed by the same guys that do City Skylines.
It is Lego Skylines, and they aim to have players be able to build functional and logical cities as you would in other city builders, but also push them to make something more creative and whimsical. An example that they give uh is you could put a bakery on every corner of the city, which then can produce donuts using the wheat provided by farmers from elsewhere in your city. So you can you've got you know, some uh commerce happening in there, but also do you need a donut shop on every corner? Yes.
You sure can. Uh they what they really said there is uh frankly an absurd amount of buildings, decorations, and other cool stuff to build cities. Which sounds fun. Uh the trailer was announced um at Gamescom. Um and it looks really super good. It it looks really fun when the buildings are built, they kind of fall in piece by piece, um, and stack up.
It's really cool. All the clouds are Lego shapes. I mean, the whole world, the water, everything is uh is Lego. Um, and it looks really super fun and cool.
Um, and I'm excited for it. I think this would be a fun one to play. I think they kind of did some of this, if I'm not mistaken, in Fortnite in the Lego part of Fortnite, they had some builders and stuff that you could do. So this will be a standalone Lego Skyline City Builder game.
No official date for when it will be released, but it will be available on Xbox, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC when it comes out. So you'd be able to get it on multiple.
That sounds fun. I know sometimes we do, especially in the winter, yeah, and there's nothing else going on. A nice video game is fun. I liked that one we played that. It takes two. It takes two. Yeah. I loved that game. That was a lot of fun. I want to play another game like that.
I there's a couple of them out there. That game taught you how to be a gamer, by the way. And it taught me how to be a patient husband. Would you just jump across? Would you just time your jumps out?
Would you just rotate the camera so you can see the platform you're jumping to? You fell again. Would you you fell again? Would you you fell again? Just take my controller and do it. No, that's not how this game works. You fell again. Would you rather this or that?
Would you rather be class president or class comedian? Oh, class clown. Yeah. I would. That's what I would rather do.
I know. I knew you'd pick that. Why? Because student government.
Well, responsibility.
Oh. Being responsible for working on your class reunion if you're in there on senior year. No way.
But having people laugh at your jokes, awesome. Okay. There's nothing I like better.
I would say there are different levels to a class clown. And I think there are some that uh that are subtle, good jokes, but don't go over the top. And then you got the ones that are like, you're doing too much.
Constant. Like you need to actually do some class. Like you need to stop your distraction to the entire school. Stop it. Like take it down.
Yeah. So I think if I was going to be class clown, I want to be one of the cool ones that was that was like I knew when this is a good joke. I'm gonna sneak this one in real quick, and then let's get back to learning.
You knew when to turn it off. That's right. Turn it on. That's right. Okay. Yeah. Well, good job. I would be the one that was doing too much. And then everybody would be like, oh, this girl is nuts. You do it too much. Right.
Because you'd get addicted to the laughs, and then you'd be all in on it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So uh that's if I if I chose class clown, that's where I would be at. Is I want to be a good one. Now student class president. Do I want that responsibility?
No, I absolutely do not. No. Ew.
But I could get vending machines in every hall. Ugh.
But you have to you have to do stuff. What stuff? I don't know. You have to go to meetings. Okay. Like student body meetings. And then sometimes you have to be in the parade and listen to me. You don't want to be in the parade. Nope. I just want as little responsibility as possible.
Uh-huh. Does it look good on a resume that you were student class president? Oh, I'm sure it does. Does it? I'm sure it does. I'm just learning. I mean, I was never part of student council or student government or you know, any of that.
Me neither. I bet it does because people are like, oh, you can get stuff done. Yeah, look at you. A leader. You're being so responsible. Yeah. My resume, people go. hmm. Class clown. Have you ever been in charge of something? And I go, no.
I'm looking for as little responsibility as possible. And they're like, you're hired. We'll pay you. I'm going to take the class clown out of these two options. We do. No, I know where you're at. That's well established. Would you rather this or that?
More sad news today. Oh, I you changed it up. Oh no, sorry.
Well, that's fine. We can tell the sad news and save your good, exciting news for later if you want. I don't like bookending the show with sad news, but uh, as of this morning, we have received more sad news.
Uh, yesterday, uh, we saw the passing of uh uh Dolly Parton, and this morning we're getting news that uh Tim Curry has passed away as well. Uh 80 years old also. Now he's been uh dealing with a lot of medical issues for uh quite a while.
Um, but he is uh he has sadly died at 80 years old. Um, and I was trying to see uh specifically, you know, kind of what was uh going on with him. But like I've seen him, you know, he's done some appearances and he's been uh in a mobile wheelchair uh thing for quite a while.
Um I was trying to see. I mean, uh I mean he's been in so many different films and and things. Um Rocky Horror Picture Show, it clue um Clue. Uh he's in Home Alone 2 as the hotel concierge.
Um so many uh Muppet Treasure Island, Adams Family Reunion, The Hunt for Red October, Annie. I mean, it is his uh resume, unbelievable. This is a terrible week. I know.
This is actually a terrible year. We lost some really good.
You were just looking at a whole list.
You had Chuck Norris, Chuck Norris, Katherine O'Hara, Diane Keaton, Sam Neal, the lady from So I Married an Axe Murderer, Brenda Freckie. It's a lot of people. Yeah, it's sad people.
It is. It absolutely is. Uh, they said um police responded to his house late last night. Um, they say no foul play is suspected in the case. Um, and that he passed away late last night at his home in Los Angeles. Oh man. Yeah.
This is a terrible week. I know.
Um I was just gonna see here. He had health issues that slowed him down. He suffered a massive stroke in 2012, which required brain surgery. Um he was still unable to walk last year uh due to that. And uh sadly, Tim Curry has uh passed away at 80 years old. I know. Now we have officially bookended the show with Dolly Parker. Too sad Tim Curry. I know. It is too sad.
We like to keep things upbeat over here, but those are sad. I know. Super bummed out. Now I have to go through my whole day. I know.
