One Gospel Minute

Our view of government should align with what God, our Creator, expects. Scripture teaches that the power of government comes from God, as seen in Daniel's acknowledgment that God gives power to whom He chooses and Paul's declaration that "the powers that be are ordained of God" (Romans 13:1). While trusting God to work out what is best, this does not mean disengagement. Christians are encouraged to participate, respect societal order, and strive for good, living peacefully and with integrity. Leaders are to be honored, as they are ultimately appointed by God for the good of society (John 19:11).

David Hill: What should our view of government be? It should be with understanding of what our Creator Designer expects. Hi, David Hill. Got a minute? The power of government comes from God. Daniel, the prophet of old, acknowledged that God gives power to whom He chooses. The Apostle Paul records the words of God saying, "The powers that be are ordained of God" (Romans 13:1). That means putting our confidence in Him—letting God work out what is best. It doesn't mean hands-off, nor that one can't vote or participate, but rather to do all in our power to effect good, respecting the order of society, trusting God to direct your steps, and always seeking to live a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty (I Timothy 2:2). Honor duly selected leaders, remember Jesus said they would have no power except given from above (John 19:11). They are ministers ordained of God for our good. My friend, that's the gospel.
