Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

But let us keep our eyes fixed upon Christ, and He will preserve us.
Looking unto Jesus, we are safe. – Steps to Christ, pg. 72
It was wintertime, just before Christmas. The streets were
adorned with holiday decorations, the markets were in full swing, and
the shops were crowded with people frantically searching for a lastminute
Christmas gift.
My cousin and I pushed through the hustle and bustle of the
Ku’damm, one of the most popular shopping streets in Berlin. We
strolled through the shops, admired the showy windows, and bought a
few small trinkets. After we purchased our treasures, we strolled to the
nearby Christmas market and enjoyed the various festive Christmas
decorations. Everything my heart desired surrounded me, from the
tasty brioche to the rich hot chocolate.
Suddenly, my phone rang. My mother was on the other end of
the line, entreating me to come home as soon as possible. My cousin
and I reluctantly left the festive scene and took the next train home.
It was not until the next morning that I heard about the horrible deed
which occurred at the Christmas market right after we left. A truck
plowed into the crowd, dragging and tearing people and booths along
with it. Eleven people were killed, and fifty-five others were injured.
However, my mother had no idea that this would happen and
was merely worried about me and my cousin. Because it was so late
in the evening and we were in the city of Berlin, she called me to make
sure I would get home safely.
I became increasingly conscious of the protection of God
from moment to moment, and I still have an uneasy feeling when
I think about how my cousin and I narrowly escaped that terrorist
attack. We’re not always aware of it, but God’s angels are constantly
surrounding us and guiding our steps in the right direction.
