And here’s today’s news from Public Sector Executive – on Thursday the 1st August 2024.

Cambridgeshire County Council has launched a new scheme to expand its social care workforce.
Coming against a backdrop of mounting social care pressures around the country, a new programme will see residents of Cambridgeshire offered the chance to qualify as a social worker thanks to a fully-funded degree apprenticeship. This will allow learners to study for a Bachelor of Science degree in social work, whilst working within the council’s adult social care team.
The programme will begin in January 2025 and will, at first, see 20 learners offered positions. Over the course of three years, the learners will then gain the skills and knowledge required to work within adult social care, however the apprenticeship will also give them the chance to gain the experience needed for working in the council setting and the opportunity to develop a range of values.

West Midlands Combined Authority has confirmed that it has taken another step towards completing its City Learning Quarter.
This comes with the completion of the first step, which has brought the construction of the Advanced Technology and Automotive Centre at the City of Wolverhampton College. The centre has been delivered thanks to £8.1 million of funding and has taken 11 months to finish.
With a shortage of skills in the city of Wolverhampton, the centre will allow residents to develop their skills in these areas, supporting the delivery of a multi-skilled and flexible workforce.

As part of almost £50 million of investment, North Yorkshire Council is transforming public spaces in towns across the county.
With funding coming through the Transforming Cities Fund, £44.6 million is being invested into a series improvements in Selby, Harrogate and Skipton. The Transforming Cities Fund is contributed to by the Department for Transport and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, aiming to offer communities an attractive and accessible alternative to car journeys.
The most recent of these projects to be shared with the public, is the £11 million project in Harrogate that will see public space improvements, as well as developments to transport links in the town. This will be done through additional cycle parking near to the bus and railway stations, promoting cleaner transit for communities, alongside additional developments that will make the centre of the town more appealing.
