In today’s portion, we delve into the fascinating construction of the tabernacle, specifically the curtains, which were the three layers that covered this sacred space. These curtains were not merely fabric; they were a symbol of beauty and function, serving as protection and sanctity for the tabernacle.
Now, let's talk about the miksay, the covering of the tabernacle. It consisted of ten curtains, and the number 50 is significant here. It represents a level of completeness and holiness in our tradition. Although we don't have Rashi's commentary today, the text alone speaks volumes about the significance of these numbers and their deep connection to our traditions.
Additionally, the tabernacle was a microcosm of God's creation, encompassing various elements of the world. Most notably, the highest of the three sets of curtains was made of animal skin, symbolizing the elevation of the physical to serve a higher, spiritual purpose. This is a profound teaching in Kabbalah and Hasidus, highlighting the role of the human in bringing about this unity.
